sky go - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What are the chances sky go will be made available for this handset on its release. Going on the Xperia s I think we will have to wait 6 months again

Does not currently work which is a shame as I had just started using it on my old S

IS this The end of our Dream

Recently all devs now have the nexus 1 and it seems to me that it is slowly fading away from the eyes of the android developers

I'm sure that while bigger and better development will go on for the Nexus, once we get a stable 2.1 release (I'm voting for OE), a lot of the stuff will be ported to the G1
And the angry face gives an angry tone

Honestly, if you think it's the end of the Dream, then get the Nexus One. I still think there's some more we could do with our current device and personally, I'm still very satisfied with what mine is capable of. It's still better than all of my friend's phone, and always will be.
I would love faster updates but there is bigger and badder phones out their for the devs to developer. I would say that the g1 is slowly decreasing but we still have the most people viewing the g1 forums then any other android phone. Its getting close to the 2 year period for whoever bought the phone new, contracts is up but that is in 8months?

~8 months. October is earliest you could have gotten it, so a little over 7 months
Haha, I didn't feel like counting my months so I guessed. Seems like a good guess to.
thanks King

handset upgrade!!!!.....what to choose?.

hiya guys n gals...what I thought would be a simple question has turnt in to a nightmare,I'm due my handset upgrade...been on sgs gt i9000 for a year now only been flashed the last copule of months and been loving its performence,I've been looking at the sgsII but don't want to get it straight away as I know as soon as I do there will be a newer handset releasd a week later...so guys is there anything a bit trick coming out soon?....but for real not these "maybe"cases...cheers inadvance to the peeps of xda..
plus....I have been searching google and looking but I wanted some insider info so to speak.....
nexus prime?
just had a peek......WOW......look promising
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
Ya I'm going for the Prime... I'm not being stuck to a carrier anymore. I want all updates when google has them... Not when Samsung decides.
Not many people on this site have been relying on samsung to release the updates more to just let them leak
Prime does look good though.. and I think it was an exec from the uk said it would be out sooner than you think, so i'd say latest mid Nov
Leaks are ok, but with so many variants and different product codes, it's bound to be troublesome.

There's also a whole new, revamped, improved, faster, stronger, better and amazing whole new (again) iPhone 4S.
It is pretty much like the iPhone 4, but you know, like better, this new iPhone can save the world, and rescue cats from threes, it will give back sight to blind people and bring a new era of peace and happiness to eveyone!!!
(In case it wasn't that much obvious, this whole post is sarcasm)
There's a Galaxy S III comming too, it won't save the world, but sounds like it will have a 12mp cam.
Nexus prime would be the best option right now. If you can't afford or get that, try buying SGS2. Don't look for anything beyond these.
If u can wait till june or july next year then there is the s3 cmming... Just google for its specs... I am sure u wud be imprrssed...

It will be a never ending cycle. You either go for what is out there right now and be happy, or find out, as with everything in life, that the moment you buy something, the next latest and greatest will come out right after you make a purchase.
Vicious cycle. Lol

Android 4 ics

will ics come to Tab unnoficially ported? Is anyone looking into it?
Sent from my rooted Nexus1
Unlikely- but possible, eventually. Do not expect anything fast, at the least, and if it does come sometime next year, it will NEVER come to the p1010
UP!
Hope the day come shortly.
It depends a lot on Google releasing the full source code of ICS. Considering that this version supports all device sizes (unlike Honeycomb) we may see the full code drop, as Google should have no fears about fragmentation anymore with this version.
On the other hand, if only partials are released, as was the case with Honeycomb, we may never see it happen or we may see it as late as winter 2012, two years after the P1000 release. Few devices still receive full attention on XDA two years after their release date and more than a year after the release of next generation devices.
I honestly like Gingerbread on the P1000. It's running fine and all functionality works well. It has a good battery life and a lot of power cramped in such a small package.
We'll have to wait and see,
C.
In other words chances are slim for an official release. I am on 2.3.7 which is a nexus s port (Boca) and very happy. The nexus s will get ICS soon so if Dizgustapatid gets his new computer we may be very lucky to see a release

Hopefully we will see this once the source is released

Android 5.0 Jellybean soon

So apparently Android 5 is coming in q2, before lg even gets ics out. I knew this would be the case with this phone, we might get ICS but that glory will only last a couple of months. I would have got the google phone if they just put a damn SD card in there.
Reminds me of this cartoon.
lol @ cartoon
Says it isn't for phones though. Also, original source is digitimes which is a bit pants.
Well to be fair google are pretty fast at rolling out these OS's, they release the sources to carriers ect to make their roms then by the time the carriers have rolled out an update google are talking of releasing a new version, they cant win really and it also says jellybean is mainly if not exclusively for tablets so use your brain and quit whining.
Jellybean is only for tablets! It's like honeycomb
Why would they make a seperate version for tablets since they brought out ICS to combine the smartphoneversion with the tabletversion?

Agree. Every second version can't be called something with sandwich. Would be kinda stupid.
As it seems to be a dual boot system Android/Chrome, it's certainly more convenient for tablets.. But too soon to say, June is in 4 months.
Its for tablets and smartphones, the new nexus will come out this summer with 5,0..

Yes its dualboot, it can be booted with the new Windows 8

and what other than nexus have official ICS? its not the phone but google ho is relising new OS every half of the year! Nexus S still dose not have ICS in canada so the nexus s is bad to?
Win8/Android dual boot would be really sweet!
Actually we don't really bother about when the official update arrives... Never looked back once a person flashes a custom rom
If we get the official update earlier, it is way more easy to build a fully functioning custom rom

Sony Xperia Z 4.2

http://www.latinospost.com/articles/9871/20130118/sony-xperia-z-release-date-rumors-android.htm
what do you guys think about it...shouldnt sony release the phone with 4.2 itself rather than providing an update?
"Should" is the right word here. 4.2 has been out for a long time, so it is very strange to release anything but 4.2 now in 2013.
Also some media (or Sony themselves) have said there's very little theming/customisation on the phone, so updates should be fast.
Again I still don't see how "fast" updates can come when it's not even released with the latest software.
But when I get the device cm will be applied withing minutes of owning the phone, so as long as they (cm) release something that works, the phone will run the latest android
Sony already stated 4.2 will be available "shortly after launch"

gtrab,
You have been around long and you know there have been times Sony said something then changed it. I hope they start acting instead of talking. Sony has surely been improved since X10 era.

That's not good enough from Sony. Unless they aren't trying to compete in 2013 and just wanna make a quick buck.

Let's give sony a chance this time buddy. Even I did since they have a change in leadership(CEO) just now so things may change. :fingers-crossed:
Makes more sense to launch a phone on what you developed it on, than to just launch on a Rushed 4.2, 4.2 stock has bugs lol

That's true but still, they have to optimize things with their own UI. Im pretty sure the M7 and the Galaxy S IV will launch with 4.2.

Yes, no worries, I understood that. I also tried to say: I too think they should release it with 4.2
Also looking at their pre production phone, their software looks pretty bad, so I don't think it would matter with "buggy" 4.2 or the base they've been developing it on. Atm their base looks bad, so either they fix it in two months, or they rebase it om 4.2
The thing is that: this is their flagship phone, 4.2 has been out for a while, 2 months is still a long time, they have a lot of Sony devs, so I still don't see how releasing a flagship in 2013 with dated android is a wise choice.
This seems to be their standard though: dated android. They did this with the x10 or whatever it was called, and i won't be surprised if they do it again now. But hopefully the new management is improved and we'll se updates in timely matter. Also if they keep the community support up, it won't matter since it will have dev support

XDA named Sony "2012 OEM of the year" for a reason, and that means a lot to me.
They are changing, listening, officialy unlocking bootloaders, sticking to their update pathway, helping the devs community a lot, etc.
I believe the release of 4.1.2 is a marketing strategy.
Releasing 4.1.2 as initial firmware core and updating it to 4.2 then the next generation of android would make it look like they'll be providing subsequent updates. While if they release 4.2 as an initial firmware and update it to next android soon that would only look like they provided a single update which would invoke another rant from users like
"Sony promised 18months of support yet they only released 1 OS update!!!"
"Sony only released 1 update on their flagship phone they just release a device and loses interest on it after sales."
So yeah... if they make the initial OS 4.1.2 then that would make it 2 major updates while if they release 4.2 as initial OS that would only make 1 major update.
Like the logic says... Any number greater than 1 = many.

The phone would have been in testing prior to 4.2's release... so early internal builds would have been based on 4.1.x anyway - so I can see why it's launching with 4.1. They would want to be on the ball with the 4.2 launch,,,, if it gets pushed back then people looking at buying this phone 3-6 months after launch are going to be wary about future updates.

Why strange? Show me an example of another device other than a Nexus launching with 4.2 in the same timeframe?
Show me an example of a device other than a Nexus or the Transformer tablets getting ICS prior to March or so of 2012? Show me an example of one that got an update prior to April/May or so that wasn't an *utter epic steaming turd*? All of the Transformer tablets first ICS updates were poor, Galaxy S II ICS was a steaming pile of **** for months... Hell, if you've got a carrier branded device it STILL is...
Not to mention 4.2 is one of the more buggy releases from Google, are there any devices apart from Nexus devices officially running 4.2 yet?
