[Q] Google Voice works but doesn't work - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey,
I have Android v4.1 (AOKP ROM for Galaxy S1). My question is in regards to Google Voice (not the new Google Now search...which is pretty cool, but slow to return results on my phone).
I can do everything that you're able to do with Voice Search (call contacts, send texts, etc) but I can't search. To be more precise, I can search and sometimes a list of interpretations comes up, but it won't actually search...all it does is load the browser (the default Android one) and either reload the page that was there or load Google...it doesn't actually DO the search.
I've cleaned the Browser data and Voice Search data. It used to work and I'm not sure what or when exactly it changed.
Any other ideas?
Thanks

Try getting rid of the application all together. Reinstall gapps and or another voice zip/apk. make sure all of the data and cache for that application are wiped as well.

Thanks for replying. It didn't work. I uninstalled Voice Search and Browser. Reinstalled and wiped their data. Didn't work. Uninstalled Browser, installed Chrome and tried again..worked fine! So it's a problem with the Browser. I don't like any other browser...Chrome takes forever to start loading a website and Dolphin doesn't link with my gmail bookmarks. I guess I'll just have to deal...

[Q] Missing Apps in Nookie Froyo

I just installed Nookie Froyo to the eMMC. Works amazingly, and I've got Marketplace working.
However, a bunch of the apps that I'm searching for are missing from the marketplace. Stuff like Twitter and Dolphin HD. How can I fix this?
i have also noticed this running other versions. I switched to froyo for hopes of having youtube but that won't work. I can't even get marketplace to work... I tried installing it from a google link but got an error that i could only install ... tired and can't remember. Could you share how you got marketplace to work? i dont even have it as an option in my apps

Clear the Google Framework data and Market cache. Then reboot. It is under settings, view all apps.

I worked through this earlier tonight. If you have marketplace working, download market enabler - which lets you "spoof" a carrier. Follow the instructions above and after rebooting but before running market, run market enabler and select US TMobile as a profile. When you run marketplace, you will see the missing apps like google maps, weather channel, etc. This is discussed in more depth in the ROM thread.

Do you still see adobe flash in the market after this. Does flash still work in your browser? I did that to get dolphin browser and it worked but I lost flash. So I reverted back.
How do you enable youtube in Froyo?
Youtube won't work without the YouTube app since youtube is on flash 10.2 and were stuck with 10.1 for now.

Hmm, I've tried clearing the data and force stopping the framework and market, I've tried clearing the data and not force stopping (like earlier in this thread), after each reboot I run the market enabler, long press on Tmobile, it says it set it, I open up market and the apps are still missing.
Awesome...worked like a charm.

I have the same issue and tried the same things. Everything works great except the missing apps.
Any ideas?
I'm still running into this issue as well. I tried setting it to Tmobile after clearing the data as well as the cache and rebooting. Setting it to Verizon doesn't seem to be working either.
One option is to use titanium take the apps from your tb forder on your phone and copy them to the tb folder on your nooks sd there are three files for each app. The just restore the them

I'm not sure if this is the issue but I seem to remember that you don't want to clear the data for the market application - just the cache. And clear the data (and not the cache) for the framework.
This is discussed in the developer forum for this ROM - I'm not sure if everyone has this problem or even if this is a fix for everyone. I saw the symptoms described here and had good luck with following what was in post 492 here.

Marketplace stuck at "starting download", gtalk, gmail, youtube all work

so it's been a while since I've been on the XDA forums from my windows mobile days. Just bought and rooted my Nook and I've made my return to the forum.
So my problem is that I can't get marketplace downloads to work. I rooted my Nook Color (1.1.0) with Autonooter 3. Everything went exactly as it should, synced my youtube and gmail and gtalk. I've been able to download and install apk's from the internet and have the amazon marketplace that will download and install apps. I've tried everything from resetting the caches from gmail, gtalk, youtube, marketplace, like everyone has suggested in other threads. I've installed titanium backup and did the data wipe on the various apps, I've tried signing in/out of my gmail in the browser. I can't seem to get the marketplace to download.
any thoughts?
when i first rooted, my nook did this as well, i just rebooted and it worked, try to reboot once or twice to see if it works.
Strange as it sounds you need to be logged in to Google Talk for the market apps to download. Also, if you keep the stock launcher you won't see the apps in the Extras until you do a full reboot, but you can launch them from the notification bar.
Try unmounting your SD card...
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA Premium App
unfortunately, all of these have already been attempted and failed.
as a side note, my gtalk just stopped working, crashes when I try to open it, even after a data wipe (titanium) and reboot.
I had the market working, until I changed the order of the accounts ( I have now primary a google apps and secondary a gmail account) When it worked was inverted in the order. I went the manual way to delete the account that appears in the nookdev wiki.
I suspect this is the cause. Now I'm tryng to keep the calendar sync with the google apps account and get the marketplace to download anyting.
Do you have the same situation?
Somebody with a clue to get this work?
I'll keep investigating. I'll post solution if I find it.
Cheers.

I had the same problem but I finally found an answer from someone on a different site. Turn your Nook off, put the SD card back into the slot, hook the USB cable back up and plug it into your computer (not sure if this step was necessary but it worked so I'm leaving it in), then unplug everything, remove the card and restart.
Hope this helps!

[Q] Gmail crashing on launch on CM9

My girlfriend wanted to get her mother a tablet to play with and since my fire sale TP was just gathering dust, I decided to slap CM9 on it since they've already got a WebOS one and are complaining about the lack of apps. I got Gapps loaded so the Play store works and I downloaded a smattering of free starter apps (like Angry Birds) from my account because she needs to get her own Gmail addy to get her own stuff.
However, Gmail crashes every single time I attempt to launch it. I've rebooted, un/reinstalled the app, cleared the cache and the Dalvik in recovery, but Gmail won't stay up. I've been unable to find anything online because most Google results are about getting Gapps going. What can I try now? Thanks.
What gapps did you install it should be 20120429.
I'm pretty sure that's the one I used. Other apps downloaded OK and seem to run; just Gmail is barfing.

Go to settings>Accounts>your google account. Click on it. Make sure Gmail is checked. Reboot. Clear cache and dalvik and you should be good to go (I hope )
Good luck.
Edit: You can also try the gapps fixer utility. It's here in the forum somewhere - a search will turn it up.
Does the Gapps Fixer thing have an effect on apps themselves? I thought it was just for fixing the Play store not working?

Gmail was the one thing NOT checked and the moment I checked it, it started syncing and opened Gmail. Didn't need to reboot or anything. I never would've thought to look there. Thank you very much!

Google Contacts broken after 4.2.2 update

Is there any way to manually uninstall and reinstall Google Contacts on my Nexus 7? Ever since I updated, I just get the message "App stopped working" when I try to run it. I've tried stopping it, flushing the cache, signing out of my account, nothing helps.
I would appreciate any help. The tablet is rooted, so I know that opens up possible solutions.

I got it to go away by clearing the data of Contacts/Contacts Sync and then clearing data for Google Services Framework. Just go into Settings > Apps > All and they'll be in that list. It happens when you flash one rom over another one or something and they have some files that get mixed up. It seems like it's an issue that happens to a lot of people, but almost every thread has a somewhat different solution.
Hopefully my method works, if it doesn't, then reboot and go to Settings > Accounts (Google) > your email. In the upper right sign out of your account and then sign back in by going to any Google app. After a hand full of personal occurrences and many google searches, I believe this will work.
...Ok, apparently this method works somewhat. I still get the message once after every boot up, but it doesn't show up after that. The only really reliable way to get rid of it is to backup your apps (not the google ones, since they are broked) and factory reset, since that does always remove it.

After clearing the caches and restarting, my message went from "app not working" to "app not installed."

I'm trying to avoid the factory reset. I know it will work, but I consider it the option of last resort.

[Q] Unable to Attach Google Photos in Google Messenger

VZW Nexus 6, unlocked, unencrypted, stock rooted 5.1.1 with Wugfresh's NRT. Access point is LTE - Verizon Internet VZWINTERNET. I have AdAway installed, but have had it disabled in order to troubleshoot. I don't use the MOAB host but I whitelisted mms.vtext.com just to be safe. Also tried a couple of different access points to no avail.
While in Messenger if I tap the paperclip to add an attachment, all options except Google Photos work. When I try to attach a photo from Google Photos, the displayed thumbnail is blank and the spinning search indicator goes on indefinitely. If instead I open Google Photos, select a photo to share via Messenger, it works fine.
One other piece of info. After I get tired of watching Messenger endlessly search for a Google photo, I back out, clear recents and go into Google Photos to send that way, but my attempt to attach from Messenger corrupts something in Google Photos, so I have to force stop it to get it to function normally.
I've force stopped, cleared cache and data for both Messenger and Google Photos multiple times, but nothing seems to work.
The only thing that does work is reverting to the factory install of Messenger. If I do that, everything works as it should.
Anybody have this problem?
Thanks.
Try a file explorer (ES is my choice) and click the share button. There should be an option to share it via Google Messenger. That should insert it into the convo. Also make sure your SMS/MMS settings are correct along with the APN. If none of this works, try uninstalling/reinstalling Messenger, and then clearing the cache/dalvik, and try again. Hope this helps.

As stated, all of the options (to include my file explorer--root explorer), recents, dropbox, etc. do work. It's Google Photos that's not working properly. Also keep in mind, that the option to use Google Photos allows me to attach photos from the cloud, which is what I'm unable to do...so a file explorer is not optimal in this case.
SMS/MMS settings have been checked, and as I also stated, I'm using Verizon's preferred APN, but I have also tried others without success.
Although I didn't mention above, is that I have uninstalled and reinstalled both Google Photos and Messenger without success. The only thing that did work was reverting to the factory install of Messenger, but that's not optimal.
Clearing cache and Dalvik is useful so I'll give that a try, but I'm not hopeful.
Are you, or anyone else able to duplicate this problem without reverting to the factory install of Messenger? Thanks.
I had that problem. I never ran completely stock & rooted from the box. But I had similar problems with the stock sms/mms app using custom roms. I finally installed Textra on the advice of others & since then have never experienced a problem, so I never looked back. But others told me it was the stock app which is at fault. Why it works for most & not for some - I got no idea. I also consider Textra to be a step up in many areas vs stock. I use Titanium Backup & freeze the stock app also.

Same problem here with Google Photos but using Themed version of Messenger. Appears to be something related to Google signature key and not able to access Google servers..

Anyone ever get this resolved? I'm experiencing the same. Running Nexus 5 stock, unrooted.
Still not working for me even after updating the factory image to account for Stagefright. During the update I took the opportunity while unrooted to try again (this was after a factory reset)....didn't work. Then rerooted and tried again...still a nogo. Same symptoms as my OP. Here are a couple of shots:

One more point. I just watched a Galaxy S6 exhibit the same problem. Something must be up on Google's end.
