ATTN MODS: if this was posted into wrong place please move it and please don't ban me?
Hey,
So I have had this phone for about 16 months. I have always loved it. It wasn't rooted or anything like that but I started having issues with it,
Such as, not being able to end a call, pick up, random reboots.
The phone will not power on at all it does however show the battery being charged at 100% when I plug in adapter.
I also cannot get my PC to recognize it, have tried on multiple computers.
Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated
Thanks,
XDAn00b
PS
This my work and business cell so I need it up and running asap even if cost me a few dollars.
I have over 1000 documents/payroll/emails and highly sensitive info
So if you could help there would most certainly be compensated for your time. I don't even care if you remote into my PC. I just really need this or I will lose my job.
I am assuming you tried to pull the battery and wait and put it back again

Hi Cazey.
Take the battery out, replace it, hold volume down and power on. That should take you to the bootloader, a white screen with a few options on it, and probably 'locked' at the top if you haven't played around with custom ROMs yet.
If you can get that far, try selecting 'recovery' and doing a factory reset through there. Note you'll probably lose all the data on your internal memory. This is a bit of a last-ditch effort, so try any other suggestions first. I'm a PM away if you need anything further.

No...
If its locked its got HTC update recovery...
Maybe find the ruu and return it to stock for real...
Otherwise its a hardware issue...

I cannot even get into the bootloader, when I hold the power button down it does nothing, unless its charging and then it just turns into a black screen

OK...
Do you have an SD card... pull it out...
Remove and replace your sim card...
Maybe push on behind the sim card on the plastic...
Flex the phone a little length wise... A LITTLE
Then try again

To start i have no experience with "bricked" phones and could only assume to identify one if it just didnt work, so i could be way off here. I met a fellow who owns a Nexus One and he is trying to sell it as it no longer works. He tells me that he was preforming a firmware update, the phone "crashed" so he yanked the battery and since then he is unable to power it up. Im looking for more specifics on this to see exactly what is happening when he tries to power on. Given this info is it likely that his phone is bricked, and if so is there any way to fix it? Im inclined to think no, but would appre iate the opinions of others just like to make sure as he has offered it to me for next to nil. Thanks for any help.

If he pulled the battery while flashing a radio image update, it is likely bricked.... but a bricked phone should power on to the static X initial boot image, and would stay there indefinitely.
Sounds like something else might be going on (battery dead/malfunctioning?), but I don't think it's officially "bricked" as much as "broken"
If it can't power on, I don't think there's any good in it

Power buttons have been known to fail on a number of Nexus Ones.... maybe it's a case that the button is broke...
Think if you pull the batt while usb powered and put batt back in it will power on...
Thanks for the speedy replies. Ill wait for further info from the guy to see exactly what is happening and post again if its significant. Thanks again

where did you learn that? that's not what htc told me..
So i bought a few of these batteries off of ebay and they are OEM HTC 1500maH batteries that come with the EVO. However when i put it in i cant press the letter T. i knwo this is happeneing due to pressure on the screen (its a little bigger than the 1300) but its weird cuz when i put the batteries in my moms incredible the problem doesnt happen. can someone please help me find a fix for this issue. its realllly annoying. and also i know it has nothing to do with the software cuz ive tried flashing multiple roms.
not sure if it has anything to do with it, but do you and your mom both have the same types of screens, or maybe one of you has SLCD, etc.?
I have an HTC Evo 1500 in my inc and T works for me. I'm AMOLED. Let us know what you've got.
I have an 1800 battery off of ebay and its a good bit bigger then the stock battery and everything still works
We all have AMOLED so i cant figure out why there should be a problem with just "my" phone
that's no fun man :/ just curious, what happens if you hold the phone horizontal?
Works perfectly fine. But I don't use landscape very much...

No problems with the Seidio 1750mah battery.
ok ive been using the stock battery due to the whole T not registering and i just got a siedio innocase 2 and popped it on my DI and the problem started happening with the 1300+ innocase! but now its even worse, the T, G and V wont register with the case on.. So im thinking about taking my phone into verizon and getting a replacement, but im not sure if they would give me a new phone because they might give me some its a 3rd party product bs and their not responsible for it... anyone have any suggestions on how i could get a replacement? lol
Well you said you noticed it when using an OEM battery... So obviously it's a problem with the phone.
Make sure you show them what happens when you try it on both you and your mom's Incredibles.
yeah im going to take them both in and show them. i should probably restore my stock backup and turn security back on before i take it in yeah?

Sent from my HTC Incredible
To preface this, the phone is completely stock and unlocked. I've been using the phone now for about 3 weeks with absolutely zero problems. I plug it in to charge over night, wake up the next morning and it's completely unresponsive.
Won't turn on.
No LED notification light (Green or Amber)
Isn't recognised by my laptop as a disc drive either.
Any ideas, tips or suggestions as to how I can get it working again, short of calling the supplier and getting a replacement?
Thank guys.

My god. This has also happened to me. A few others have also had this problem. Contact HTC and file for a repair/replacement. I did today. Seriously sucks because its a solid phone otherwise.

This is a worrying trend.. So there are no other alternatives just request a repair/replacement?
It really is. I've already contacted my brother, whom is pretty high up in att, about the matter. I'd consider myself a veteran of android and I have had no progress on the fix, it seems only to be hardware. In layman terms, yes you'll have to get it replaced.

I'd say about 2 weeks at most. But no, they'll repair or replace the phone depending on the issue. Likely replace.

drop ship
When speaking to the HTC rep., try tossing around the phrase "can you drop ship a replacement phone?" Ask for a manager if its existence is denied. Once you find someone with enough power to "drop ship" the replacement phone, they'll take your credit card, then immediately send you the replacement phone and a box to ship back the defective phone. If you don't return the bad device, they'll charge your card.
happened to me twice - try holding power button for like 1min - it should turn on then
I opened a thread about this problem, but seems only some people have this defect.
I've had this problem too, it's currently with HTC (UK) to repair or replace. It arrived on Tuesday, still awaiting to hear back.

It seems that my phone isn't dead after all. Holding the power button down does seem to work... It's a strange bug..
I don't get why people turn the phone OFF in the first place? I never turn my phone OFF at all. I sometimes restart the phone but that is it.
I flashed Paranoid Android after wiping ARHD 10.2, everything installed perfectly, phone was working great until I was listening to Pandora and checking Facebook..then my SIM card became unreadable and I had to take it out and put it back in, when I turned my phone back on it had gone from 42 percent battery to 4 percent, then 2, then dead. I charged it for a little while before going out for dinner, I came home and it wouldn't turn on, and it won't charge now whatsoever.
What the ****?
Alright, this will sound silly but place the phone in front of a light so that the sensor picks it up then try to turn it on. Will have to hold the power button for a while but it should turn back on. Or, if it won't, also try booting into your hboot. Reason for this is so you can't accidently turn on your phone in your pocket or something like that. It's been a while since I read this, I could be wrong but this won't hurt your phone so just give it a try

Yes, tried two chargers in two outlets along with USB only charging, none work. Both chargers worked this morning.
That happened to me today. Literally the exact same thing.
My solution:
Step 1. PANIC LIKE A MOTHA F******
Step 2. Contemplate spiking unibody sexiness into pavement because unibody is functionally retarded.
Step 3. Take a deep breath and remember why you love her...
Step 4. Hold down power button for 10 seconds or longer.
Step 5. Plug usb cable that came in your box into your device.
Step 6. Quit whimpering, people can hear you.
Step 7. Plug into PC. Watch for tiny red light at top of phone.
Step 8. Wait about 30 min.
Step 9. ??????
Step 10. PROFIT! !
Sent from my squash patch.
Followed your steps for 30 seconds of holding the power down, plugged in stock USB to phone, plugged into PC. Nothing. Black.
Sent HTC an e-mail, my phone shouldn't over-heat and brick while using Facebook and pandora and that's it. I'm about to swap this **** for a S4 and stop being a HTC fanboy. I'm upset.
Not every unit provided by manufacturer can be perfect. By the end of the day its electronics and something can go bad. If you feel s4 is better than get a s4. HTC One will be happy to leave you. I'm sorry for being rude and sarcastic but it is what it is.
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
You shouldn't quickly jump to conclusions in my opinion. Just get a replacement set and see how it goes. If it still has problems then you can go for S4 or whatever device is out there. Of course in the end it's your decision but I'm just saying that you shouldn't cloud your decision just because of one defective set.

Did you charge it overnight using the stock HTC charger and cable? That is about all I can thing of. Something in the ROM appears to have drained the battery flat, which is not normally possible.

Makes me wonder if they didn't do something to the safe charging capabilities, although I would think that stuff is in the hardware, not the ROM.
It seems if it was the base that's being used we would have a LOT of devices going down so can't really speculate the cause. I shouldn't have posted above in such a suggestive manner.
I don't imagine the rom would be stopping the phone from charging as the kernel etc is not loaded until after hboot, charging is dealt with well before this sequence in the boot process.
To be fair it sounds like a hardware failure, maybe an overheating issue, possible caused by the rom and many other factors but that's the risk you take flashing experimental 3rd party software to your device. I don't thing you will ever know, your not even getting a uart mode which to me says fried PCB..
Send it in for repair and play dumb

This is indicating that for the time being, there is something seriously wrong with 10.1 builds and it's dangerous to flash them...
It's a shame that the cause for the error cannot be found once the device is bricked...
