Poor sound quality - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey!
Now Im lucky Xperia Z owner, and Im thinking about sound quality. It's poor isn't it? Music is quietly and I don't know how can I fix it. The bass is not that what should be.
Maybe it is problem with stock headphones? Maybe Im to demanding? What do you think about?
Greetings!

which headphones do you use?

So far I've only seen praises about the sound quality (non speaker)
It could be numerous things:
You don't like it.
Broken headphone.
Too low volume.
Try playing with the equalizer a bit.

Odp: Poor sound quality
Im using sony stock earphones, that were in the box.
I used some equalizer settings but still it isn't that what should be.
Even Poweramp died

That could be it

Generally all waterproof Sony phones(?) have lower volume.
I've tried the Xperia GO(owner) and V, and they had nothing on the Arc S or S.
Maybe you should try using Bluetooth connection or a different device for music.

Odp: Poor sound quality
Yes, it's just stock earphones problem.
I've pluged other earphones and sound quality is better. Sony earphones sucks

It was probably just your earphones. It should be covered by 1year accessories warranty.

in my experience with previous phones, the headphones that come free with phones ALWAYS suck massive donkey balls.
I always chuck them away and use headphones I have researched and bought elsewhere.
Its Sony, i'm sure the music will sound great on the phone with much better headphones.

Odp: Poor sound quality
So maybe I'm too demanding?
On walkman app sound is a little bit bettet than poweramp app but is quiet. Normalize option is off but music still going louder or quieter.
I like loud crystal clean sound and I can't obtain it on the stock earphones...

It could be the headphones. However the Qualcomm dac is known to be quiet. Check out the nexus 4 reviews.
At the end of the day it's a hardware limit and thereisn't much you can do.
If you want sound quality you need something with voodo. Support.
Audio quality through Bluetooth will generally be worse then sound directly from the jack.

Hi, will there be anything in the future to make it louder, like on the note 2 there was a hack to make it much louder when rooted.

I think the volume using my urbeats headphones is very good but just not enough bass. From I can remember sony's supplied headphones are always awful! low output and no bass.

The supplied earphones have tons of bass for me. If anything I find them lacking a bit on the mid / high end but certainly not bass. Have you tried with different size attachments?
No comparison should be made of these to the cheap crap that comes bundled with Samsung, HTC etc. They might not be perfect but these are leagues ahead.
They may also just need to be "burnt in" in a bit.

He had already stated that quality is better when he changes headphones i.e. the stock headphones are not as good as he wants.
But you take this opportunity to once again criticize the "hardware limitation" of the phone. :banghead:

*facepalm*
Another Sony Fan Boy...
OBVIOUSLY switching from a low end set of headphones will sound worse then a high-end.
OBJECTIVLY the DAC is inferior to many found on Samsung's devices and Apple's own Iphone. The only OEM attempting to address this is HTC (By adding a built in Amp).
Don't believe me? Check out GSM arenas reviews on S4 devices and the HTC DNA. The DNA is superior due to better hardware which Sony Neglected to add.

Audio Quality

Hello guys,
Sorry if there is already a thread like this. I searched the forum before, but the Tapatalk search function is really bad.
So: how is the audio quality? Can it replace a Cowon iAudio player? Sony is a big player in terms of sound equipment, so I put quite much hope in them.
I am not one of this guys whose spend lots of money in things like cables and portable amps. But I have really high requirements in sound quality, my Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 7 could not satisfy me, neither my iPod classic.
Best regards

Standard isn't too bad, speaker is a bit week, but with above and tweaking settings, it's good, better with headphones.

you are asking a lot for a phone and being cheap. Unlock your phone, install the kernel by dooom, by far that help me out the most, but dont expect it to be a blessing by the gods.
Thanks guys. I haven't bought the phone yet, but will try these things when I have it

XZ stock sound is rubbish, ear piece is to quiet ect but after you have you new toy then root install CWM for locked BL and flash PureXAudio to a point you will have to turn volume down. Just remeber on locked BL please dont factory reset/wipe cache because i am sure i will see you in Q&A with bootloop problems.
You dont want to unlock your BL yet not intill you are happy and comfortable with what are doing/modding
Stock sound not good.
Root and install PureXAudio. The quality will be fantastic great!

Why is stock sound (earphone, not loudspeaker, the louspeakers are too soft) bad? The audio chip used is the Qualcomm WCD9310, which ranks just below Wolfson but beats everything else as far as audio quality goes.

The Xperia Z + PureXAudio can replace the Cowon iAudio Player for sure. I had a chance to hear both of them and the Z tops it.
Yeah, thats really good news. What about noise/soughing when WiFi is on? With my N7 and Urabnears Zinken/Xears , I can hear hum and noise in the background when surfing using WiFi...

No problem at all. Not even with my bluetooth set. I'm also using the PureXaudio mod and each time I listen to music I have the feeling that I'm in heaven. It's pure quality.
I haven't tried the other mod (don't have any reason to), so I can't say anything about it.

They're decent, but may lack a teeny little bit of bass. I solved that problem simply by adjusting the equalizer
Actually, the headphones that come with the high-end Sony phones are better that what you will find at 20-30 bucks. You should pile up more money for something like a pair of Sennheiser CX-300ii or Klipsch S4 or spend it on something else.

Call comes through speaker!!

Hi All,
Since the past two days, whenever someone calls and I pick up the phone, the sound comes through the speaker, i.e. very high. I have to reduce that sound using the volume buttoms. This happens with only a few calls, not all. I have a screen protector on the phone, as usual.
I have restarted, reset, etc. to no success.
Can anyone suggest what the problem is?
Thanks

I have done that yesterday as well. No luck. The problem still persists.
mine is like that as well. i can hear it even in the back of the phone... I checked clearsound and uncheck xloud and it got a little better but i still need to turn down the volume to people not listen to my conversation :x
when you state "speaker" you are referring to the speaker on the bottom right?
or do you mean the vibration through the back (near the camera area)?
edit: just did a test, it feels like its coming out from the speaker speaker but its not, the sound feels like its actually coming from the near back. I guess its not sealed tightly or just xperia z has really good loud earphone speaker.
No i was talking about the call speaker. Sry if i misunderstood

Reasonably cheap and really good sound. Mic and 1 button remote working on XV
Jabra is overpriced, sony mh750 wasn't that bad..y not get sony ex300 xperia z's headphone? Heard it did pretty good job in bass and clarity. OH,btw.. I'm using a jvc Ha S500. No android remote button. But I bought an extension with control.

Dun buy ibeats, buy urbeats..coz ibeats button only work for Apple. The urbeats from HTC works. Xperia Z's headphone would better. And it's cheap. You can get it in ebay around 10 USD.

The Sony headsets that come with the mid-high end models are excellent.

I import it over to my country...as they dun sell it to out from japan. And u can try buying it in ebay, since most eBay seller is from japan. I dun think there will be fake product or watever so.. Since china just imitate famous product only like beats all these. They have earbuds version of carbon nanotubes based headphone..would be pricey. But the quality is superb. Burn in produce better sound XD

Sony mh1c !!!
The SONY MH1C is excellent, far better than the stock sony headsets. And it is relatively cheap.
It has an extremely wide banwidth, with perhaps a little lack of bass, but this can easily compansated adjusting Clearbass.
I have some history with headsets, none with mic or control.
All started with the Phlips SHE9550 that's very bass head and some times depending on the EQ the bass blow away the other frequencies. After that one I had a Sennheiser CX380, this was my first contact with above average quality phones and this one emphasis tha clarity. My last is the Sennheiser CX475 that have bad contact. The CX475 has amazing sound quality in a very compact house, I can lie over it without feeling.
Overall durability of them were about 1 year give or take. Now I have no money to by a new one:crying:

I miss Blinkfeed any way to get an alternative?

Probably the one thing I miss about my htc one, along with the boom sound, external speakers kinda blow in The Z1.

Yeah quite a few people have always rubbished HTC sense, I have always really liked it more that any other phone OS out of the box.
Never used blink feed before, sounded like nonsense to me when I first heard about it, but yeah Sony's closest to that would be social life which IMO is crap to use never updated properly.
I think I recall a developer in the Xperia Z forum doing a whole HTC Sense project for the Xperia Z, maybe he has some way to port that over for you. Might pay to have a look over there as well.
Flipboard is probably your best bet.
