Guys, i think my xperia is broken
last night my battery was empty so no big deal i thought.
today i've connected it to the charger to charge and pressed the ON button.
when i pressed it, a red light under the ON button started burning.
i thought? wtf? mayby because it's emty or something.
but after more then 1 hour of charging it still doesn't do anything.. and now even the redlight doesn't show up!
does anyone know what to do?

Hello dear friend, I sympathise with you I had this exact same problem and was worried sick for a day and a half that it was dead! the red light under the power button is the battery fail light (as far as i can tell) it goes on for example when you plug the charger in and remove the battery. I've found if you run the battery down to absolute minimum it almost seems like the X1 cant detect the battery any more and displays the red light. I fixed mine by removing and replacing the battery a few times and plugging it into the wall charger for a few hours. keep trying and dont lose heart, like I say it took me a day and a half (with a sleepless night inbetween
Also mine, but after five minutes it's wake up.
Try simply to remove battery, or performe a soft reset via hardware button with the stylus.
Let you X1 charge for an hour or 2 and it will start up again, guess this is when the phone don't get a enough power to start up.
(Guess it can indicate some other error as well but probably just lack of juice in the battery .. )
thanks guys..
it is still not working but i know that the phone it self is OK.
i wend back to the store and they switched the battery from another xperia.
it worked fine
i'm so happy right now. it's charging at the moment, but still not going on, well, i have to wait and see then.
again: thanks for the posts guys
Mind you... it might take a while! I had it connected to a cheap usb charger for a night (which wasn't good enough obviously) and it took me the better part of a morning to get it to life again with the SE charger. I find it most irritating that this sort of thing isn' t mentioned in the manual. At least not where I could find it. Things like a phone that doesn't want to start make you sweat horribly.
I have this problem with mine but still no luck
Been dead for weeks now.... Finding it hard to get a copy of the receipt too bah
Only had it a month too..
It's prolly one cell in the battery that are "broken".
Had that on my X1. There are 3 cells in the battery and if one of them doesn't work as it should, the battery only delivers 3-3.1 volt.
Your phone "wakes up" at 3.335 volt but dies at 3.1. I've been measure it myself.
My phone are now back in business with a new battery, a new batterycover and latest software. No problem if you have guarantee...
PS... Try to avoid one thing. Avoid heat in battery. Lithium hates heat.

You are right, man.
Usually, if you discharge a battery till the very last drop, it can happen that:
A) one of the cell goes beyond its safety level, and it "breaks". That's unrecoverable, AFAIK.
B) the cells gets unbalanced, and you nedd several charge/discharge cycles to get them balanced and fully recovered.
Add to this that Usb charging is usually unable to wake up an almost totally drained battery. This won't happen with a normal charger, but Usb charging voltage is lower than normal (of course, it's usb not home plug!) so it has not enough power to wake up the dead battery. If you leave your device in charge for some minutes, it will eventually manage to wake the battery.
However, I noticed that the X1 has a bad power management. Usually my X1 low level battery threshold varies between 10% and 5%. One week ago, at 10% it just shut down and won't recharge, showing me the red light over power button. Removed battery 3/4 times and charged with home charger, it gets recovered. Try to plug the charger, remove the battery and insert it again, doing all this with the charger always plugged.
In my opinion, that's really annoying, I never know when it *really* has a low battery!

yeah.. i had that with my P990i (symbian uiq3) phone the batter went in 1 day to 50% now it still has 80%
this same thing happend to me last night, i just pluged it to a wall charger & waited for an hour good thing when i pressed the power button it came back to life. was worried then and now its all good.
i had this on my xperia a while ago i think its just the battery is extremely dead.
after an hour of being plugged it in it turned on again
Red Power button Led
Glad to find this info, the red light gave me the chills at first too. My phone blacked out while using TomTom 7.4 on a stock unbranded NL Rom, after it had given me low batt. warnings. Now it's in the 'home plug' charger, sipping juice on the red light... I hope it comes out of it soon. Anyway, I was wondering if anybody has ideas on checking battery cell failure? Or battery diagnostics of some sort? It would be a shame to use a crippled battery just because you don't know it's operating below its max capacity. By the way, I'm not part of the lucky bunch in possession of a multi meter...
EDIT:
As soon as I hit 'post' the notification Led's display charging! And the red light's off of course. Guess the first post brings some beginners luck, hehe. Anyway, thoughts regarding battery diagnostics etc are still welcome!
Encountered this and according to the helpdesk, it's cos the backup battery is empty so he advised me to charge the phone for half an hour without the battery, and then charge it with the battery after that. Didn't work. Called up the helpdesk again and he said for some, they've to charge (without the battery) for an hour. Ok, tried that. But still doesn't seem to be working. Gonna just leave it charging (with the battery) for a few more hours. If still can't guess I gotta bring it down to the service centre.

Remove your battery, wait 3 minutes, insert again the battery. If you have lost date & time info, no, there is no backup battery, otherwise yes, there is.
Well, anyway, sent my X1 for servicing. Over at the service centre, they tried to 'boost my battery' but couldn't get it working. So had to leave it there for them to work on it.
Just had this same problem, cleaned the battery terminals and hey presto...it's all good again..
Regards,
Astoroth
Sent my X1 to the service centre with regards to this issue and they replaced the motherboard. They'd tried boosting the battery but no use.
Same problem.. this is what happened
ok, I came back from work an as usually i plug the charger in my xperia, the baterry left was like 30%, ok, then, I connect in the 3.5mm an autput for a big Radio so i can listen full music... so.. in a while, in my house there was a power down.. really fast one... like... 0.01secs... (like down and up really fast).. in that change my cellphone went down =S.. and sice today never get up ='(... there's just that red light in the power button each time I plug the charger on... any help?.. is the same problem of the topic? :S.. plzzz.. i dont have even a month with this pretty cellphone =( poor baby
I'm aware that my battery only really charges to 97% even of the indicator shows 100%. But lately when I'm charging the phone it will show full, but then drop to anywhere between 91- 95% instantly.
I've tried calibration etc but still no change.
Is there any reason for this or do.I just need a new battery?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
As long as your battery is lasting a reasonable length of time I wouldn't worry, sometimes android can be all wrong and has diffidently happened on my phone. But a recalibration should have made it a little better, you could try bump charging if you really want. While the phone is off and at 100% unplug it then plug it back in and wait till it gets to 100%, do this a few times until it gets to 100% quickly. Hope this helps
Its due to eyesight not finding SEARCH button multiple posts on the problem and why .

Much has been said about the best way to proceed with new battery technologies, but I would like to ask how you did things when you bought your OB and charged it for the first time. Did you consume the remaining ~30% left from factory before the first charge or did you charge it regardless what was left? when you did charged it, did you wait 8hrs or more to extend battery life in the future or just waited until it said it was full?
Thanks for your help

First charge: well, you grab the usb cable. One side, the small connector you connect it to the upper side of the phone. The big usb connector, you connect it to the AC-to-USB adapter. Then, you plug in to the wall this big piece. Just kidding
If you read, you will find the experts saying that Li-ion batteries don't have memory effect and you don't need to do a first charge or full charge-discharge cycles. God forbid that I contradict them, but my experience says that the best is doing cycles from around 0% (well, below 10% you can plug it in), to 100%. Never parcial charges (for example from 65% to 100%, or from 20% to 60%), although I lately do lots of parcial charges because I can't play anymore to run out of battery.
The first remaining 30% out of the box, well although I knew I "shouldn't" use it (maybe), I just do because on the way home after picking it up, well, I want to try it! It won't hurt. Use it and when it's at 10%, charge it completely, to 100% and hang on a while before unplugging.
EDIT: no need to wait 8 hours or anything. Just 100% and some more minutes. Charger will stop letting the electricity go once the phone has said "hey, I'm fully charged". It's a environmental and energy saving thing. Completely pointless waiting hours (it won't charge).
8 hours ? Nope
Just normal charge when the battery is completely depeleted (about 5% or less)
so it i'll be replaced with the new 'ion' or something, then the longer battery life you'll get
When battery is still full or half of it's capacity (more or less), it's not recommended to charge it
Let's take an example, a half burnt tree branch, what happen to the burnt one if you keep burning the branch? Ashes
That's what i think and do

Thanks for your responses guys, I want to clear out all my doubts since I want to buy this cell phone, and hopefully I can find a good price soon
Does the OB original charger prevent overcharge?
I usually leave my OB connected to charging during the night. Is it ok?

Yes, it's okay
In the process of charging my One for the first time. Read a little about how with new Li-ion batteries, you don't want it to go dead.
Now, this may be a matter of semantics, but if I let the battery run down the first time and the phone turned off, is that technically a "dead" battery? I would bet that if I tried to turn the phone on again, I probably could and there would be some residual charge left.
I'm charging the phone right now until full (with it off). Has anyone seen a 4+ hour charge time with the phone off?
ps. I'm charging it off b/c I have another phone I can use in the meantime.
Thanks.
Just don't try to over-empty the battery or leave it empty for days.
Yeah, the phone takes eons to charge. Make sure you're using the AC adapter to charge or it will take even longer.

A lot of the information out there for how to care for batteries is old or just plain wrong. It is hard to figure out what to listen to, but I was researching exactly what I should do to care for my battery last week and the conclusion I came to was:
It is good to run the battery down to 0 about once a month.
The battery will last longer if the temperature is kept lower, both for daily use and for the potential lifespan of the battery.
Batteries have a certain number of charge cycles, and one full discharge and recharge is one full cycle.
You are prevented from reaching dead 0 on a battery as a safety measure.
You are prevented from overcharging the batter as a safety measure.
If you wont use your phone for a long period of time, don't store it with no battery or a full battery.
The best way to treat your battery is use it, and charge it whenever you need to.
Hope some of that helps.
I just got the OTA update from KitKat to Lollipop (5.0.2) yesterday and I've noticed terrible battery life and very slow charging since then. My phone is always in its charger overnight and when I remove it from the charger in the morning it usually easily lasts until I put it in the charger at night again. During the daytime I do a lot of stuff on it (whatching youtube videos, listen to internet radio, whatsapp, internet browsing, making phonecalls etc).
This morning I removed it from the charger and hardly didn't do anything on it for the first two hours. When I wanted to send a whatsapp, I noticed battery had already fallen to 70% in only 4 hours or so - 4 hours of doing nothing while the phone was in energy savings mode! Half way through the day, with only some whatsapping, battery had fallen to 20%. When I connected it to the charger, it instantly dropped to 8%. After about an hour of charging, it was at 17% and said it would last another 6 hours before the phone would be fully charged. Usually I charge my phone in 1.5 - 2 hours!
When I did the update, I didn't do a factory reset and I would like to only do that as a last resort.
If I look at te battery statistics, I don't see any app using an obscene amount of battery life - the highest being Google Play services with 15%. But what I do notice is that "Cell standby" is responsible for 29% of the battery drainage.
Before I do a factory reset, anyone any tips?

This is directly from HTC tech support. To recalibrate battery and HTC charger when battery rapidly or erratically discharges, this procedure clears all battery stats, coordinates and normalizes charging.
Turn off Fast Boot in settings. Power off phone.
Plug phone into HTC wall charger and charge for two minutes or more
While charging, hold down volume up+volume down+power button and continue holding
Phone will turn on and off repeatedly every 15 seconds or so while continuing to hold all three buttons
Keep this going for 2 minutes, then release buttons WHEN THE PHONE IS ON
Now, let phone charge fully normally (with phone either on or off--doesn't matter) and battery level reporting, charging and battery life should be normalized.
Do this every month or so to keep power system healthy--even if everything seems fine. Also, don't leave phone on charger overnight for best long term battery life (according to HTC tech support: "The first thing they tell us." This is true even though charging is supposed to turn off when battery is at 100%)
Battery recalibration ... Many techs say it's a placebo. But, I will follow this manual, just in case.
I do confirm, though, that with L 5.0.2 charging takes longer, phone drains faster with the same as before apps and usage, phone is often hot, and I've started to get regular 'can't charge, your phone uses more power than available from charger'.
Re phone uses more power than available, it happens with all three original HTC chargers I have, so I have to use the charger from an Asus tablet (1.5A output).
I haven't done the recalibration thing but I did some measurements and I now know why it's charging so slowly, just not what is causing it. The phone isn't switching to high charging mode and keeps charging at around 400mA. This means that when using the phone, it's draining faster than it can charge. I also think it's not switching to standby mode causing the high drain. Often the phone gets hot when it's in my pocket (when it is supposed to be in standby mode) meaning something is still draining the battery fast.
I will do the calibration thing and see if that helps.
I just did the reset thing (holding power + vol up + vol down) for two minutes. It's now charging but I can see it's still not charging in high mode. It's still charging at only 400mA.
Edit: Phone says it wil take 10 hours to charge (it's at 30% now).
Annoying, I know, but I'd factory reset the phone just to make sure the update has 'taken' correctly

Sounds logical. How did you find it out? Instrumental, or through a phone menu?
I have checked Setings/Power. Mine says Charging on AC, which supposedly means high charging mode.
PS. Again, whatever it might mean, when I get a 'phone uses more power than..' error, I connect the phone to a 1.5A charger (compared to original HTC 1.0A) and it solves the problem. I'm not happy with this solution, though.

There are a few ways I can measure this. I have a "Charger Doctor", one of those inline USB voltage/current meters and I have an "Energy Meter" which measures wattage going out of a 110/220V socket. Both confirm each others measurements. The Charger Doctor says my phone is being charged at 5.1V at 0.4A, and the energy meter says the charger consumes about 2.5W which is about right (the charger looses some energy through heat and the Charger Doctor consumes a bit of energy as well).
But...
To be sure, I tested a few different (but identical) chargers and changing the charger made no difference. But - and here comes the strange part - I tested about 20 different USB cables and with only two my phone charged at 1.0A (which I assume is the M7's max charging current). With all the others it charged with 0.3A-0.5A. Only with those two cables it charges in high charging mode. So apparently something changed in the charger detection. Before the update I was able to charge the phone in high charging mode with other cables as well.
Also, it seems like it's now discharging not as fast as before, but I will be sure tomorrow after it has fully charged and after I've used it all day.
Edit: Yep, charging is at it's normal speed now. It's at 60% and the phone says it will be 1 hour and 1 minute until it's fully charged.
Edit2: Of the two cables it charges at 1.0A with, one is the original charger cable that came with the HTC, and the other is a cable that came with a Duracell Power Bank.
Well, after the three finger calibration, charging seems faster, and I think battery holds longer (or maybe I want to think it does, because still not sure).
One additional observation is in about 20% cases my phone is stuck during boot until I connect or disconnect the charger for a second. By connecting or disconnecting the charger, something triggers the power state and the phone boots normally.
So yes, you may be right about new power management in Android 5.
(I'm now on IC7.0.0 + ElementalX 20.0, HTC M7 Int'l))
Well, even though charging times seem normal now, it is slightly erratic. I can see the percentage making jumps up and sometimes down while charging.
Also, battery life still is very poor. Battery now lasts until halfway through the day while before it would easily last all day...
Is there a way to revert to KitKat? Other than a lot of annoyances I haven't noticed a single advantage using Lollipop.

Factory reset
I had terrible battery problems after T-Mobile upgraded my HTC One (M7) to Lollipop. The phone was constantly awake and churning with the GPS probing for a signal every few seconds. I'd lose 50% of my battery in a couple of hours. I went through the battery recalibration suggested by HTC support, but it didn't work well. Finally I did the factory reset. It worked perfectly! Now my battery life is better than ever and the phone will go well over 24 hours on a single charge with normal usage. Recovering from the factory reset was easier than I anticipated. Google Play Store remembered and reloaded all my apps automatically. The only headache was having to log in to everything again. Well worth the effort.
I did a factory reset as well and it looks like it has improved battery life. I'm still on my first day after the reset so I won't be able to really tell after I've used it for a couple of days. But like I said, the hard reset seems to have made a difference.
It has been 15 hours now since I unplugged the phone from the charger and it still has 43% left. But I just noticed a few minutes ago that two energy settings were set different than before the hard reset. Screen brightness was set to auto (when before I had set it to it's first dim setting), and data connection was set to switch off after a long period of inactivity. (while before it was set to always on). I've changed those settings and see if that makes a (big) difference.

Tested it for another day and battery life has definitely improved quite a bit but it's still nowhere near what it used to be with KitKat.

when i woke up this morning my m7 was 100% it's now 11;10 and it,s now 70%
I'm getting exactly the same problem.
HTC support said they never heard about such a problem and their conclusion is to send the phone to be repaired
I don't know how to rollback to previous version and it doesn't looks like to be a new fixed version on the way.
Or at list I haven't heard about it.
I also noticed it doesn't make much of a difference if I turn on energy savings mode.
With KitKat, my phone would easily last the whole day without energy savings mode. Now with lollipop I have to hook it up to a charger in the evening - even with energy savings mode enabled.
The thing that sucks the most is that my phone drains in alarming rate when playing a game, or listening to online radio or watching youtube videos. 30 minutes and battery drops from 100% to 50%. And the phone gets really, really hot. Before lollipop, it would drain perhaps from 100% to 85% and the phone would not heat up at all.
There are so many annoying bugs/features with lollipop, I'm considering an iPhone for the very first time ever as my next phone. Mind you, I've never been a fan of Apple stuff. But Android is just getting ridiculously bloated and simply doesn't work very well anymore. It looks like every update makes my phone less usable. And I hate the fact Google thinks it's perfectly fine to disable/remove stuff that people have come to depend on. Like my notes (amongst man other things). Google in all its wisdom has removed the Notes app making all my notes inaccessible. The only way to get my notes back is to install some third party app from the Play Store and have it transfer my notes to the cloud. First of all, I don't want a third party app handling my notes. And I most certainly don't want my notes stored in the cloud. I travel quite a bit and I don't have internet access everywhere I go, making my notes inaccessible again.
