Screen Scratches

When I bought my phone,I ordered a full InvisibleShield from mobileden.co.uk for 20 pounds. It has been about 3 months and nothing arrived,they are not responding to emails and my screen has been scratched more that a lottery ticked in a retirement home...
Does anyone know a way to fix these,or maybe I can order another Invisibleshield that can cover these up,I cant find it in Montenegro,so how about a site with shipping?

If Im right, there should already be a factory fitted screen protector on the play. Try removing it, and try ordering off Amazon.co.uk for a new one.

Ya there's a film over your screen stock and it picks up every scratch under the sun. The screen itself is very hard to scratch, you can take your car keys and try to scratch it nothing well happen. But ya take of that film it's a scratch magnet.

If you are thinking about that thick vinyl that comes with your phone and gets filled with air pockets after 2 hours of use,i removed that one the first day,but if there is another one,pls tell me

I think there already is a screen protector preinstalled, i didn't noticited it. I think that's the reason why it's so hard to put another screen protector on it.

There's actually one under that, it's got a great fit to it and you can't even tell it's there. If you look where the buttons meet the glass you can see there's a film on the screen. It's not really a screen protector it's a film they put on to prevent the screen from shattering if you dropped your phone kind of like safety glass in your car windshield it will still break but it doesn't let the glass fly. The problem with it is it's super soft so it picks up a ton of scratches. I recommend removing it and if you want apply a real screen protector that won't pick up scratches. Like I said it isn't really a screen protector just a soft piece of thin vinyl that scratches like crazy. To get it off get a pin or tack and pick away at it by the search button and once you get it lifted a little you can just peal it off with no problem. The mineral glass underneath is pretty dang scratch resistant but once that crappy film is off you can apply a proper protector with ease. Hope that helps some

Thx,as soon as I get an InvisibleShield I will peel it off. Maybe I should sue mobileden for fraud?

Here is what it looks like when removing the factory vinyl. I had to use a thumb tack to get it started. I pushed down hard on it to get it started, and it did not harm the glass, but the vinyl scratches easily.
Edit: ack, the camera really captures the lint. I will say the colors are much more vibrant with that vinyl off. I should have taken a before and after pic of that.

Been wondering about this as my screen has got a couple of annoying scratches on it. Good to know the actual screen is much more resistant
Editing to add that I just took it off and can confirm that everything looks more vibrant

You say that and I've found my screen is the scratch magnet, heck at one point I only pulled the phone out of my pocket with nothing else and I get a massive scratch. :/

I hate the Zagg "invisible" (quite the opposite) shields. The material is so uncomfortable I would take scratches on the screen instead every day of the week. Those shields are soft plastic of some sort and the fingers almost gets stuck on them while swiping (lots of friction). No smooth movement because of that and the image gets a lot more distorted than with the original screen protector on.
I really like the original screen protector as you can hardly tell it's there and it feels good on the finger. I regreted I ever removed mine and bought new original ones and am a happy camper again. They protect against speckles very well too which the Zagg ones doesn't do either. The Zagg shields are the most uncomfortable ones I have ever used and it's hard to get it on without getting bubbles and leftovers from the liquid that distorts the image even more.

I think it's the shatter proof one that's picking up most my scratches. Can somebody post a video of peeling it off? I see a very thin line with less than a millimeter gap between the phone edge and this protector. Can somebody confirm that it's the protector I'm looking at?

This article will explain how to do it, i put a high powered torch on the screen whilst its off, it lights up the screen protector perfectly

you may find adding a protector now will hide the scratches if they are small enough

They may be superficial. Did you try some good rubbing with a lint free cloth. I had no sp for the longest with no scratches

sadly NO, If it makes you feel any better my Note always has a case on and just once i removed it for 5 minutes, I manage to drop the phone on a concrete now my screen is scratched thank good the glass didn't break.

I have a scratch on my Galaxy Note also :/ I've only just had it for a week. I only noticed the scratch when I was about to put the screen protector on. I think it happened due to me showing my sister my phone, and she gave my phone to my TWO year old niece to draw on :/ I'm so upset and angry about it. I've dropped my HTC Desire HD many times and not a single scratch.

I have a tiny little scratch on my note as well. Its no big deal because it can't be seen unless you direct it to the light at a certain angle but it still bugs me.
It seems like the scratch was made with the s pen as it has the pattern of something I had drawn when I was trying out the s pen.
I'll be getting a screen film soon to avoid any further scratches.

I got a 1mm deep scratch on my screen to
again always had a cover on it and when i took the cover off ... guess what .. it fell on its face and got the scratch.
Now i have the flip cover on it and wouldn't risk taking it off again.
As they mention : Gorilla grass is scratch resistant only.

Look up 'Displex' - it's the best scratch remover there is, and it's cheap too.

This isn't for the faint of heart....
I built scale plastic model airplanes for 30+ years until the bifocals & carpel tunnel made it impossible to hold an airbrush.
The clear plastic "glass" parts, if not packaged in a bag, can get scratched, screwing up a good looking model.
For starters, try some mild toothpaste. DO NOT rub very hard. It's glass, but you don't want to really screw it up...just in case. After toothpaste, try buffing it with a sheep skin cloth (chamois). Now this one will sound silly, but it works on plastic, clear future floor wax. I used it from time to time to fill the spider cracks where they didn't get the mold clean when they injected the plastic.
I haven't had to fix a gorilla glass/hardened glass screen, but I've used these tricks on my old windows phones & pda's after too many uses of the stylus.
I don't use a protector on either my streak, for over a year, or my note for the last 3 months. I don't understand how they are getting scratched.

Clear floor polish works on harder clear plastic. Never tried on glass. WOrth trying for $10 from local supermarket. And then put a cover on it
I'm lucky so far - only scratches have been on the screen protectors. But then I need to replace them - used up two so far, and good quality 6H ones too! Better than a scratched glass though - sorry to hear about that!

Screen protector with s-pen

So I've been reading the thread about not using a screen protector because it can mess with the s-pen but im curious if anyone who has one has actually had issues. I used to buy screen protectors but last time I did i got frustrated with air bubbles and gave up. My year old g2x which has gorilla glass still doesnt have a scratch on the screen. I carry my phones in leather belt holsters so that helps with eliminating pocket scratches. I'd like to hear from people who actually have put a screen protector on thier note 2.

Unfortunately I can't comment on using the S-Pen with a screen protector, but I will link you to this video about screen protector installation that will reduce the likelihood of having bubbles.

Pretty good method. The issue I would always end up with is no matter how many times i wipe the screen there ends up being one tiny spec of dust that land on the screen and cause a bubble and once that happens you basically screw because the dust never wants to come off the protecotor. You can see in his video that the same thing happened to him and he was able to get it off with tape. I have some confidence in gorilla glass after going over a year with my g2x and still no screen scratches but plenty of drops.

go to your bathroom let the hot water run for few minutes so it collects all the dust in the air, then apply it there and hopefully you will have no dust

I use a screen protector, and also had one on my Note 1 and have no problems with the S pen functionality or sensitivity.
I had a 1 week period with no protector on the Note 2 as the shops didn't have any in yet, and noticed no difference between it being on or off.
I use the Focus Crystal Clear. It is very thin and clear. They have matt, anti glare ones, but they make the screen look dull.

I got the shop to put it on for me. They did an excellent job. They used tape to clear the screen of dust, and also used tape to handle the protector whilst lining it up to apply it. That allowed them to lift it back up again if the alignment was slightly off without getting finger prints on the screen.

That thread is a myth. The manual is referring to the proximity sensor on top of the phone, not the digitizer sensor. That thread is totally misinterpretation and misinformation.

I don't use protector now as the glass is really strong in ant-iscratching I think.

I got 1 dollar screen protector, and today I put ZAGG one on, and everything works.
Had some trouble with Zagg due to dust, but I think it turned out great, I taped my self 13 minutes long, I'll put it on youtube.
I like bestskinsever more, but they don't have it yet

I Just want to take the time to thank both of you. I Ordered a Spigen Ultra Crystal screen protector and used both of these methods combined and ended up with a perfect install on my first try. I just got my Note 2 in the mail today and left the original screen protector on it. Did the hinge method with painters tape, took a shower then took off the original screen protector and applied the Spigen Ultra Crystal screen protector. Came out great! O yeah I also wore a pair of rubber gloves just to be even more safe since I've had so many bad experiences applying screen protectors. I will comment back on S-Pen usage with the protector once I've actually used the phone lol i was just so excited about applying the protector perfectly that I had to come and thank you guys first!

Is it the same glass as from the Galaxy S3?
I not used a protector on the S3 and till so far no problems. The glass is still beautifull

I purchased the Spigen SGP [Ultra Oleophobic] and it installed and works perfectly.

The first day I was a little worried the material was too "grippy" but oils from fingers/face has it working perfectly.
Oh and an additional installation trick is to take super fine grit sandpaper to your fingers tips (ha, not to get rid of fingerprints!!) to exfoliate dead skin cells that usually make up the tiny particles that contaminate the film or screen, especially around the edges where you can't help but make contact with the underside of the film. After using the sandpaper wash with a soap that does not have a lotion in it (like some dish soaps and Dove etc). I personally use denatured alcohol to remove all the oil from my fingers so touching the screen or film inadvertently will not leave any marks. It's only a few extra minutes of prep but gives you a flawless installation every time.

who's using them? i horribly failed at putting one on today (a free one that came with my case..looked crappy though with tons of bubbles between the 3 layers before i even put it on lol) but yeah, i'm real bad at putting protectors on tablets because it kept coming out crooked because of that damn home button etc.
anyway, i've got a pack of 5 coming in the mail sometime this week, and i'm wondering if i should even bother attempting again, or just use it naked. it feels so good without a protector, but i'm afraid of scratching the screen. i've been using screen protectors since 2011 with my HTC Rezound, so idk what to do. i always end up with tiny scratches on my protectors, so i'm thinking i'll end up scratching the screen..

Put one on but spend at least 10 bucks for a decent one. Illunisheild thats the one I got from amazon for the 8.4 its pretty good.

I always put screen protectors on all of my phones and tablets. I've just put one on my Tab S 8.4, had a few dusts under the protector. usually I would rip it out and try again, but I thought not today! Because fortunately the screen protector came with some stickers to help get rid of the dust.
Happy to say it is dust and bubble free now. Although it is not one of those fancy screen protectors, just a cheap one called elec shield.

invisible shield is the best.

I'll give it a try and see if I like it. Probably gonna feel weird at first though.

I too would like to buy one. I asked ismooth on twitter but they are not gonna make one for the tab S (I have one for my note 3 and it's just perfect).

anyone have any tricks as to how to get it on nice and straight on the tablets? I'm bad at tablets for protectors but decent at phones. I saw one idea where you place it down on the screen then tape the sides like a hinge, then you flip it over, peel it off, and just flip it back and lay it on the tablet and it should line up perfectly. wonder if it works.

That's exactly what I did. Works perfectly. The screen protector I bought even came with the positioning tape and stickers for dust removal. But you can just use Scotch tapes.

Mr shield
I have used many different screen protector products. I like spigen and I just installed the Mr shield ones. The are two finishes. Clear and matte. The matte finish cuts a lot of glare but impacts out door viewing. I now have the clear and love it. No bubbles. I have several videos on screen protectors that show tips on install . Putting on a screen protector reminds one of what a dirty filthy planet we live on. There is dust EVERYWHERE. One tried and true method is to run a hot shower in your bathroom for 10 minutes with the door closed until the room steams up. This pulls all of the airborne dust from the air. Turn the shower off, and use the tape hinge method to apply the protector.
Despite your best efforts you are likely to STILL get that ONE DAMNED PIECE OF DUST FROM HELL that manages to somehow get on the screen. If that happens, DO NOT TRY TO PEEL THE PROTECTOR UP FROM THE EDGE because if you bend it at all it will never seat again properly and you'll have a bubble that won't go away. Use tape to stick to the outside near the corner and gently lift that way, then use another piece of tape to grab the dust particle.
One negative of putting a screen protector on a tablet this size. Unless the protector is tempered glass, you are likely to feel a bit of drag as you swipe the screen - no plastic will ever feel as smooth as glass - and because the area is larger than your phone, you'll notice the resistance more. Also, unless the screen protector has an oleophobic coating, it will be harder to clean greasy fingerprints of it than from glass. Last point, most screen protectors are actually softer than glass so you are likely to get it pretty scratched up which, while saving your glass, leaves you with a scratched up viewing surface you have to look at. The alternative is to buy a screen protector with a hardness of 9 or above with an oleophobic coating but those tend to be a lot more expensive.
Get a pack of 3 or more if you can. You WILL screw it up a few times and you WILL want to replace them occasionally as they get scratched up pretty easily depending upon how anal you are about such things.

I don't believe this tablet has Gorilla Glass, at least I don't believe the specs say so (could be wrong?). So yes, it could scratch easily. You can try and be careful but all takes is a tiny bit of grit on your finger, stylus or wiping cloth and you are done, Gorilla Glass or no.

Actually you know, skip the steamy bathroom. Just do it in a dry room but use a strip of masking tape and screen until every bit of dust is gone. Also remember, after you place the protector on the screen with the taped hinge, make sure you clean the screen again because it will get dust on it from the bottom of the protector.

Why put a cheap screen protector on a premium device like the tab s. The best deserves the best or better. my screen protector cost 2 for 13 and a tempered glass on is on its way for $18. You cant even tell there on when installed correct.

Be very careful with the tempered glass protector. NEVER left it up by the edges - use tape. They bend VERY easily and once bent will never lay down flat properly again. Every tempered glass protector I've ever used developed sealing problems along the edges, especially near the home button. YMMV but that is my experience.

There aren't good selection of screen protectors in the UK. Looked in Amazon, Ebay, Google, nothing with quality. So I only got the Elec shield.
I'd get tempered glass if I could, but as long as I screen is protected for now, then I'm happy enough.

How to remove Glue from Edges-Frame

As mentioned in another thread in Accessories sub-forum, while Installing the Whitestone Dome Screen Protector (https://www.whitestonedome.com/) on my Samsung Galaxy Note 8, there was UV glue spillage all around the phone & now I have dried (UV cured) glue in the tiniest gap between the screen edges and the metal frame of the phone. Please check attached image, I have circled with red the exact location of the glue, however imagine this almost all around the phone:
Now I need a good UV glue remover to soften the dried glue and an extremely thin blade (or a similar tool) to reach in the gap and remove it. I saw some products on ebay, however I am not sure which will do the job.
First of all which Glue Remover is more suitable? Does it have to be a branded one? Or the unbranded ones will do the job as well? Is there danger that the remover will dry and stay in the gap making it worse? Will it damage the color or consistency of the metal frame? Will it damage the buttons (Power, Volum, Bixby)?
Secondly, which tool should do the job reaching such tiny gap while at the same time not scratching the screen or the metal frame? Metal Blade? Plastic Blade? Wire? Some other tool?
Please advise, as I am nearly desperate. Thank you!

Damn, I'm sorry you're having to deal with this. This is one of the biggest reasons why I don't use screen protectors on my phones. I've used a glass one on my Note 5 but didn't like it. Naked display feels the best and performs the best. Not fuss, no glue, no BS. Eeek!

Damn, I'm sorry you're having to deal with this. This is one of the biggest reasons why I don't use screen protectors on my phones. I've used a glass one on my Note 5 but didn't like it. Naked display feels the best and performs the best. Not fuss, no glue, no BS. Eeek!

Agree with everything. if i had the chance again I would leave it naked, however I would still feel very uncomfortable without protection.. Actual screen exposed to everything is a little risky!

OP, wish I could advise you, but all I can say is take your time and don't rush this task. Since as you aware, you don't want to use a chemical or item that will damage the frame or buttons. Don't use any metal objects.
Feel for you bro, you go ahead with good intentions to protect your device and now in a predicament.

Thanks for your understanding mate. Indeed tried for the best and ended up worse.
I am not rushing for now, just conctacted Whitestone themselves asking advise on how to fix it, as well as an ebay seller that sells such equipment/tools. He suggested me these:

I am not sure about the quality of the Glue Remover and how thin the tools (blades & spudger) are though. Have to make a little research.
That is why also I opened the thread to ask for opinions from people that may have done this or similar task before and to help others in the future.

Before using any chemicals, I would try and use the finest /thinnest plastic card or tool to scrape the glue out of the edges first. Chemicals would be my last resort. Good luck my friend.:good:

I have dropped my phones at least 5 times in the last year and each time it landed screen side down. I broke all 5 glass protectors but never the screen. That is why I must have a full adhesive glass protector on. It is a PITA to get perfect but for me, it's worth it.

I understand, some people need it. I haven't chipped or broken a display since I had an iPhone. Knock wood. Naked is glorious, though.

Plastic tools and alcohol are your friends.
99% Isopropyl should be able to dissolve the glue, and shouldn't leave a mark on the phone (iso evaporates completely and is not dangerous to plastics or metals). A stiff bristled plastic brush would be ideal, maybe an old toothbrush. The thinner and stiffer the bristles, the better.
The iso will dissolve the glue, but you'll need to mechanically agitate it to remove it completely. Bear in mind that traces of iso having touched the glue will streak glass , so a second/third rinse with iso may be necessary.
I'd be careful about getting iso into the switches, as long term iso can degrade rubber (switch seals etc) but as long as you clean, then dry out effectively there shouldn't be an issue (iso will evaporate at room temp in any case). Covering the switches with tape could help, but iso is so thin it will probably go under the tape, and will likely dissolve the glue on the tape too!
e: Whatever you do don't use acetone or any other stronger solvent. Depending on the plastics used acetone will eat right through them, and may affect the finish on other parts too.
Iso really is a decent cleaning solution for most electronic devices.
e ii: Oh, and if you use an old toothbrush, make sure it's very clean. Getting some toothpaste grit on the screen and rubbing it in with a brush would be tragic. Maybe even buy a brand new brush just for this job? Not too expensive for the job, imho.

Yes I'm trying to find such thin tool made of plastic. Cards are too thick for it. It needs to be so thin that can cut you..like razor blades maybe even thinner.

Packaging plastic is often thin and stiff... Cut it into a triangle and see if you can get "under" the glue in the gap.

HAHAH, SNAP! Same here, last phone I ever broke was my last iphone I owned , it was the iphone 4s. That was when I was drinking also,
Nekid, is always glorious, without a shadow of a doubt. But I am too shy and need coverage.

iPhone screens can be so brittle. I got used to changing screens for friends at work. During lunch they'd bring me their replacement display kits that they ordered from Ebay and I'd replace their broken screen for some Subway (as payment).

Indeed, but not metal.

What i used after installing the whitedome was a sheet of paper, running the corner around gap. Cleaned it easily this way.

I think OP needs something as thin but stiffer as his glue is cured fully now.

The glue stays soft. If you run the paper around it, it will come up. After about a half a cycle thru, I would cut the edge of the paper each time so that I can continue with a firm edge. I did this after a week of installation.

Guyz you won't believe it! For the past 2 hours I was doing exactly that! Actually what worked best was a piece of paper that had the dust removal stickers on it (got it from the Olixar Sentinel Case/Screen Protector kit), which is more firm than plain A4 paper. And I was cutting it all the time to keep its sharpness. At some point it finished and I used just plain A4 paper, which wasn't the same but it kinda worked as well..
I was running it inch by inch around the whole frame, taking out glue (indeed soft) little by little! I think it's much better now, though I think I will do another round in the near future.

well after watching videos.. I could see I never needed ALL of that small tube of glue. I always use some kind of screen protector. I like to sell or give away. And you can ALWAYS tell the used phones that never had a screen protector. Always some kind of scratches.. For me selling it mint.. gets more money.
So use some kind of plastic not metal blade to get the excess glue off. It comes off so easily

I had the same issue with mine and all I used is the film that you remove from the Glass protector before application.. cut off small squares and I ran that in the tiny gaps but making sure you don't go too deep.. Patience and time is must..
I do have a question though.. What is the best thing to use if I wanted to remove my protector off, clean the cured adhesive and use the 2nd bottle to reapply??
