Hey guys since some of you have the phone already.
What are some must have android software or apps that you would install on the Xperia Z first?
The Xperia Z is my first android phone so I was wondering if anyone could give me some tips/advice!
Been an iPhone guy for the past 4 years, hate the iPhone 5 now...
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Welcome to Android

Please post in the correct section. Learn to read the stickies. Specifically, NO QUESTIONS IN GENERAL.
And the apps and themes section is really not hard to find

Hi. I just got an Xperia T. I'm just wondering if anyone has looked into UART, unbricking, alternate bootloaders, or other hardware related things? I just finished up a G+ hangout and teardown for an upcoming XDATV. In 3 hours I was not successful in finding UART. I'd like some help because I am not familiar with Sony's way of doing things.

+Any of you happen to came accross service manuals and/or schematics for T, TL, S, or any similiar phone? :>
Great news.
As far as I know no one has looked at anything really in depth like unbricking etc yet.
However, I would like to point you inthe direction of flashtool and Androxyde. I am sure you are aware that flashtool developed by bin4ry and androxyde is the tool for xperia phones. Getting your head around that will be the first step to understanding the differences with sony phones to other phones...
If you need any more info please just drop me a line and with my limited knowledge in this area I will try to help, or I could point you in the right direction with whom to ask.

I don't have any direct hardware experience, but as far as I know all Xperia's are actually completely unbrickable. With Flashtool or Flashboot you can pretty much rescue any 'bricked' device.
Aside the testpoint unlock in the 2011 models I haven't seen anything that involves direct hardware access either. What devs do is just pack pretty much everything boot-related into the kernel.
No they are not, J and DooMLoRD bricked their X10's trying my to repartion the device AFAIK...

Okay, I sort of meant since the 2011 generation The X10 was never supposed to support custom software in the first place.

I know exactly how to a device can be hardbricked, and also how to fix almost any software based problem.
The problem in new sony phones is that security hole in qualcomm SoC is already patched, so there is nothing to do with this new phones since the security is almost impossible to break.

There is no way to crack the security, devs must find a new hole to exploit. Just like all previous xperia phones.

Hey guys, my mate was originally going to get a custom built desktop but for some reason he now wants a laptop. I've tried talking him out of it but his minds set on a laptop.
So basically it has to be around 1000 bucks, which I know isn't much for a laptop. I've been having a look for him but I'd like some input from you guys. He wants to be able to run BF3 on atleast medium, but I'm not sure if that's stretching it too far. Cheers.

Just because you don't like posting in big threads, does not give you (or any other member) the right to go making threads whenever you feel like it.
ESPECIALLY if a thread exists that is perfectly suited for your question.

The best advice in this thread is to ask your question here. I know it is less convenient for you to use the big thread, but most of the people who like helping with Hardware decisions will be in the big thread...the other issue is that if everyone in the big thread opened their own threads then this forum would be full of Hardware request threads and that wouldn't be good for anyone either.
Just wondering why this thread has been closed by the author...
Maybe the developer is busy with other projects.

I believe he's still working on Carbon ROM. But he has been telling people he was going update the Xperia Z Revolution ROM to KA08 and incorporate the .235 fixes - apparently he was going to do it within the week when the thread went down - but that was a fortnight ago.
We also mentioned that a few of our products would be jumping software version – so, we can confirm that Xperia T, Xperia TX and Xperia V* will be upgraded to Android Jelly Bean 4.3… also from next month.

Man, I think you don't know what you're saying.
I had Xperia PLAY too for a very VERY long time. Almost since it was released. You should be happy they didn't update the phone to 4.0. ICS on Xperia PLAY sucked and almost everyone knows that games were slower and less compatible. Also ICS was g*y on 2011 Xperia phones. Slow, laggy, with many bugs. Now my girlfriend use my XPLAY and she's proud of it. "Very fast phone" she says. And she wouldn;t be able to say that on ICS. Sony did the best thing they could to provide the best GAMING experience from the phone designed for GAMES.
Xperia T, TX, V are the phones for... everyone. So I think if they write they upgrade these phones, they'll do this. It's even more convincing because they wrote 4.3 rollout will begin in the next month. So probably they already have 4.3 working on Ts, TXs and Vs and want to fix some bugs before they release it.

There's a downside to overclocking. More battery consumption and you'll have to expect your phone to overheat.

That's what I'm going to say!
What are briefly the real world improvements with 4.3 vs 4.2? Or 4.1?
Finally, the bond phone get the update to Jelly Bean 4.3 (especially Xperia TX). Although not Kitkat 4.4, but I already feel happy for this.
Thank you SONY, but if you are more encouraged to update to 4.4 KitKat ... it's even more amazing.
and if not get Kitkat, it does not matter .. I will use CM11.
and lastly, I will buy sony xperia device (again) in the next years.
Cheers
