A bit off the general topic,
Anyone got any suggestions how to take the silver coating off the casing of the N7000 sides without actually damaging the plastic underneath?
Mines coming off and I would prefer to taken it off?

My recommendation is not to do it - it will leave a black, matt plastiky finish. If you did want to do it, use a fine sandpaper, then very fine sandpaper to smooth it out, then rub oil on it to give it a lustrous finish.

As said above use the smallest sand paper you can find and get it off.
I'd now recommend it though... As you could easily damage your phone...
I took it off and it looks great, probably better than before.
Used my wife's nail buffer. Started off with the fine sand paper side. Then moved to the finer side. Finally used the polisher side. It's smooth and there are no scratches anywhere. My buddies couldn't even tell that it was a home job. People asked whether i got a new phone that's how good it came out.
Went through 2 nail buffers but they are so cheap it didn't matter. Probably took me 4 hours while I was watching TV.
Depending on what nail buffer you use, max $4 in total. Cant really see how you could damage the phone as the grit is so fine.

Hey all,
Does someone know a website where I can buy battery covers for my Ace? And with this I mean customs, nothing special, just a plain blue or red one for example, I'm kind of fed up with the standard black one.

It's the day after, and I already put it on my phone yesterday. With the hair spray it simply feels protected, it made the surface somewhat smoother, and gave my phone a weird scent, but that will fade away. Really happy with it, never thought the result would look this good. I'll upload a pic later, everytime I want to upload one now uploading fails

Here it is, still amazed by what €2,- paint and some hair spray can do ^_^.
It's about three weeks later and the paint still is doing very well. Some paint is lost around the edges because I had to take the cover off a few times and by moving the USB plug cover. The hairspray seems to tend to get loose either, but most is still on. It overall still looks great, except for some details as stated above

you should buy some 1k paint lacquer isntead of hairspray, would last longer!
Hey,
After having a blue back cover I decided I wanted something else. First I cut an Android out of paper and sprayed this gold on the blue base coat, which didn't look that bad, but since it's hard to cut something such small out of paper it wasn't as good as I wanted it to be, so after a week I sprayed the complete back cover gold, which I think looks great!

There have been so many posts about broken glass and mysterious breakage, etc. Because of this I feel it's only fair to have a thread where people can post close calls where the glass did not break.
Last night my phone feel off the top of a beauro onto cement! Was in my basement. When I heard it land I did not even want to pick it up because I was sure it was gone. I had just taken the case off to clean it after getting some dirty fingerprints on it. I had a flash back of reading all those broken glass threads.
I picked it up and I could not believe it! There is just a very small scratch that can barely be seen on the chrome bezel. The phone was laying on its face when I picked it up and was covered with dirt and sand. I was careful not to slide it at all and instead of wiping it I went into my garage and blew it off with the air compressor. I then cleaned it as I usually do with a lightly damp cloth, the ones you get for cleaning eye glasses.
I literally spent 15 minutes going over the glass and the entire phone under a bright light to look for damage and there is not a single scratch on the glass.
I am usually very careful but there have been a couple times I have had the phone in my pocket with keys and one time a metal flashlight even and still not even a small scratch on the glass.
I have had other phones and have had an iPod touch, other tablets without gorilla glass and all of them had very minor surface scratches that could be seen under light. This glass is durable and pretty awesome at stopping scratches.
I think one simple way any phone can be scratched though is either when cleaning or even using the phone with dirty hands. All it takes is some very small sand particles on your finger or on your even when you clean it. Make sire your hand are always clean and the screen too and you should have no problem with scratches. As for breakage, I have had 3 drops so far, 2 of them fairly bad drops so I guess it just depends on how it lands but overall I have found this phone very durable despite being made of glass.
Anyone else want to share?

Although the glass didn't break I think it's structure is somewhat damaged. In many drop test I have watched, it usually shatter at the third times.

Yeah I saw that video a couple weeks ago and thought the same thing. For it to basically be an all glass phone it held up well. That was the main reason I decided to just use a bumper instead of a back covering case. I figured if it can hold up to the back and side drop like that, a bumper should be fine for me (I'm not rough on my devices).
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
The front panel is mostly glass but the back is made out of plastic and covered in glass. What is amazing is if you take the phone apart you can see just how thin the rear glass is. Crazy thin!

Out of curiosity, which bumper are you guys using? I am using the official bumper btw.
I had kept my phone for charging on a table(unfortunately close to the edge ) about 1m in height . 3 missed calls later it was on the floor(tiled floor) and I heard the sound when it fell down. It was on its back with the front facing up and I thought it had cracked for sure. Turned it around to see no damage at all no dents on the chrome too . all I had on the phone was the glass protector for the back that comes with the phone.

... All the negative posts here about fragile glass are from Apple shills spreading FUD.
Every time a new nexus model arrives, there is a flood of suspiciously similar complaints threads that have no real bearing on reality. However it usually does the trick and achieves their aim.
I have dropped mine a couple of times from a couple of feet up and I have no serious damage to report.

Her little sister came running and grabbed my nex10 and the nex4 that was on top flew away to the ground from the second floor. And absolutely nothing happened to it. Maybe cus it landed on grass. But still there where rocks that it could gotten really badly damaged.

Aren't those wet applications? There's a thread that talks about fog buildup in the lens due to moisture: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2477441

I just ordered one of these that include body protection http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Skinomi-...t=US_Cell_Phone_PDA_Cases&hash=item1e812e366a
, I dont know how durable the watch is yet.
I've been using a screen protector for my gear since the day I got it. Cut out of a large piece that I had for my iPad. What I noticed is that the ones I have seem to have issues with the fact the watch face is slightly curved.
It still works, but might come off after a while. I used a wet application type one as well (best skins ever) and it worked really nicely. You just gotta be careful when the charger cradle is connected to it as there seems to be some pressure exerted and causing the film to bubble upwards sometimes, and eventually causing it to become really ugly.
My thoughts are the best screen protector for the watch would be those sticky type that has some adhesive on it, something like those I used back in my Palm Pilot days.

Just fitted my screen saver. Bought from Amazon. Kwmobile. Very good quality, in fact superb but the watch face is curved so is the crystal so the screen saver sticks up at both ends.
Absolute waste of money. I went and bought three of them as I know from years of experience with these things how much they vary in quality and ease of application. I am now stuck with three screen savers that are no good to man nor beast!
Back to the drawing board on this one.
In terms of mobile phones though if Kwmobile make screen protectors for mobiles I would use them, they just dropped a brick with Gear.
Ho-hum.

During the time I used the wet application film on the watch, I did not notice any issue with condensation or problems. The only problem I found was the fact that the charging cradle seem to have really tight tolerances. So the film gets bubbled up every time I charge the phone. Eventually that ruined the film and I reverted back to my home made Spigen. Done properly most people won't know there's something covering the watch. I've got the Spigen covering the front face and wet application film covering all the metal parts
You can see the hair like scratches, is anyone else experiencing the same?

Hi, I'm contemplating buying this phone. I know it's dust-tight but does that mean the electronic internals are, or everything, including the screen? I know Super AMOLED and Super Clear LCD have no air gap so can't get dust under the touch panel but I've seen an S4 Active in the "flesh" and I saw gaps round the bezel of the phone where the glass meets the plastic (like every Samsung I've had) and I worry that dust might get in there and under the touch panel (into the actual LCD). Anyone every had a dust problem with this?

So, I've had my m8 for a month and a half maybe, with a spigen slim armor case on it at all times. After cleaning my rear lens cover yesterday ( with a soft microfiber cloth) I noticed many small scratches right above the lens area.. Seriously?? I am super careful with my phone, considering I'm really into mobile photography as well. Is the cover made out of plastic?? Whenever I had whipped it in the past, always used extreme care. I can't believe that it's scratched.. Really bums me out that htc would use such weak materials to cover the camera lens. Other than that, the phone is great, no doubt. I can't imagine what it's going to look like in 6 months though.. Any others noticed the same ?

After doing some additional research, I found many people having the same issue, that is possibly caused by heating, resulting in the coating not sticking correctly. There is also the assumption that the protective coating was never removed when manufacturing/assembly. I noticed that with slight pressure with just my fingernail on the front camera , same thing happens.. the coating scratches. And btw (for who thinks this is the cause) having the phone in your pocket has zero effect on this issue. I baby my phone , and always have a case on it, and would never put in anything else. Glad there is a simple fix, by removing the coating. However, a good idea would be to purchase a lens protector from slickwrapes just in case.

Well yes, but idk how they got there. My front camera and duo lens were the ones affected. I always have a case on and never have put my phone in any pockets. Only idea I have is cleaning my phone, in which I clean the lenses but shouldn't "scratch" from that. Just seems like a cheap clear coat that easily removes.
