[Q] Can't install CWM or TWRP - LG Optimus 4X HD

Hello there,
I know Dexter helps people with trouble in his thread but I can't post there yet.
I've been trying to install a recovery on my phone for 2 days with no success.
I am following the exact steps with both recoveries, busybox is properly installed, but every time I do a recovery boot, I got a bootloop.
Tried using v10H, v10a, v10e...nothing works.
Yes, after installing the recovery, I do reboot the phone before opening it.
I wanna try his ROM but I just can't.
Any ideas?
Thank you

I had 100% the same problem .
What I do (on V10H) :-
Root
Install the apk (TWRP) (didn't update busybox) .
Press the first option 3 times .
It worked for me , always .
Sent From My LG-P880 (O4X) .
By Pressing "THANKS" You Will Help Me .

Thank you very much, it worked perfectly for me.
The only thing now is that after installing the Eternity Project ROM, I got a bootloop. I'll try to figure it out.
Thanx anyway =)

AW: [Q] Can't install CWM or TWRP
eternity already has recovery included. just install dexters cwm apk and press reboot into recovery. no need to install the recovery itself again. or without needing dexters apk just type in terminal
su
echo 1 > /data/.recovery.mode
reboot

I managed to get it working, thank you for the help =)
CustoNexus is simply amazing...
Will use it until LG takes forever to unlock the bootloader.
Thanx guys!

Thanks! Do you expect being able to get at least adb working in recovery? That would be awesome.

Yes it will.
Hi,
Congratulations for that fantastic work.
I ran this Nova Recovery and I selected "Wipe Data" option, to reset to default settings. Then I select the rebbot device option. (Later I wiil install the Nova Rom)
But now when on the boot device they stay on same black screen flashing the 4 below lights.
Can anyone help me?
Lol, when you wipe data it will take a bit more time to boot.
I'm waiting for more than 15 minutes
Is the phone bricked?
As I can't access to any application, is there any way to enter in recovery menu?

If you don't have Nova ROM and you can't boot directly into recovery and you're stuck in the boot whenever you power it on, then you'll have to flash a firmware.

If you haven't nova, you cannot directly boot to recovery. Two ways:
Remove the battery and try again. It will probably fix nothing and may be harmful.
Or go to the firmwares flashing tgread and use method 1 by modaco to reflash stock firmware and do from there.

No, I don't hava a Nova Rom (I have the original rom).
I try remove the batery and power on it again, but the problem keeps.
So, I will try this:
"go to the firmwares flashing tgread and use method 1 by modaco to reflash stock firmware and do from there"

Cannot post the link since I am using Tapatalk, but just Google "P970 firmwares flashing xda" go to it, and read post with calm. Meanwhile, plug in the phone so you don't run out of battery when booting or whatever.

Thank you all for the help
I already have the Nova rom, but I only can unbrick? the phone by the method 2 of the referencied thread.
Ups, I didn't know relax was using ext4 on /cache.
This will cause some problems since the recovery isn't ready for it.
I'll later upload a new version.
Thanks!!! Maybe you can find some time to fix the progress bar, too

If this is only partially functional too, whats the benefit of installing this?
Noejn it's impossible rewrite the bootloader for hardware combination key for enter to recovery for use with all rom?
It's very dangerous for bricking the phone?

Can not flash CWM :(

Hi I'm trying to install miui for my sister in law on her Galaxy S but I can't seem to install CWM.
I've downloaded rom manager from the market clicked on flash recovery (fist option) then from the list chose samsung galaxy s. The next I clicked on reboot to recovery but when it boots into it, it says at the top Android system recovery (3e)
What am I doing wrong???? :s
PS I don't have a memory card inside my phone trying to install via the internal sd storage. The also I don't have access to my pc so need to do it off my phone. Please any help appreciated thank you.

When you boot into recovery press the buttons a couple of times. Ie, 3button combo to boot, release all the buttons and press the 3buttons again. I have had the same problems on 3sgs's and this seemed to work on them.
No luck
Any one else have any ideas. Please any help is appreciated.

I have clockworkmod recovery installed and when i click on reboot to recovery or use the 3 button configuration it only boots into the android system recovery.
I can not for the life of me get the Cwm recovery to boot up.
Is there a kernel I can flash with rom manager to get cwm installed
Sent from my GT-I9100
It's definitely rooted? What rom is it currently on?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
Darkys rom. Plus i have titanium backup installed and backed up my apps. Superuser is working perfectly.
I want to install miui the official rom.
Anyway I can without having to use a pc??
Sent from my GT-I9100
If it's on Darky's rom, it should have cwm already! Not sure if you can do it from your phone now mate.
Once you've got the cwm sorted (hopefully it's a gingerbread rom) you need to format system, data and cache, then flash Miui.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
Ahhh.
Flash darky RE via Odin. But if you are running darky kernel you should have cwm. Uninstall cwm app and try again.

If i understand well, you can't use odin because you don't have PC,right? Well:make sure that your phone is rooted. Go to market and get that application : "sgs kernel flashar " the one by neldar.
Then download a kernel for your firmware, and make sure you download a tar file or obtain a zimage file. Flash it with the application mentioned, you don't need any cwm. After that you flash the new kernel you should have a cwm installed.
If i understand wrong I'm sorry.

[Q] CyanogenMod and Galaxy Mini

I flashed official latest firmware(2.3.6) on Galaxy Mini using Odin. Then I flashed ClockworkMod Recovery(blue fonts). Everything worked. Then I tried to install CyanogenMod 7.1(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1167750). After CWM showing "complete", I restarted phone. It showed me start logos(Samsung, Samsung Galaxy mini etc.), then stopped on this screen:
I can access recovery and download mode, so I tried wiping data/cache and formatting /system and flashing zip again. Nothing helped. I flashed official firmware again, then tried second ClockworkMod Recovery I found(orange fonts this time). Again, it showed "complete", but after restart I had the same screen. What I have to do to make it work? Could someone give me link to working CWM for Galaxy Mini or describe the procedure?
try to help!
ok first of all you should use the cm7.2rc4 rom cause it has less bugs in cm7.1
gps and other things not working and you have to flash many fix.zips to get everything work!! i give you download to cwm4 recovery whitch works
great on mini!
qick introduction:
1.Flash stock firmware (odin) i have used 2.3.5
2.Flash cmw4 (odin)
3.make sure that both running
4.wipe data/wipe cache/wipe dalvic cache (cwm4)
5.format cache (cwm4)
6.install zip from sd
7.if its done again wipe data/wipe cache
8.reboot system
i have flashed my mini about 20times with this method and never got any stuck
at boot! first time boot will take a bit longer but not longer than 5-10min, my mini takes about 2-5min for first time boot after flashing custom rom!! hope
it help and you to get it running!! try also emanoNv4 with the same method
its a nother realy great custom rom for galaxy mini!

Thank you all. It looks like I just didn't wait long enough. I have one more question: is this screen with crookedly placed "A N D R O I D" text that I attached in first post normal boot screen or what?

I think it is only just normal waiting screen
yes its the normal boot screen for cm7 so need not to worry
Well i would like to tell you that this is the boot screen for cyanogenmod 7 and 9 too...

I had the same problem when I did it the first time.
Make sure you Clear data and cache before installing the zip. Then clear again after installing the zip.
If that doesn't work, which it didn't also for me sometimes. When stuck on screen, get the battery out. Make it boot normally and it will continue. This method always works for me.
Hope it helps.
By the way, i've read that the first time CNM loads it may take some minutes.

Well i would like to tell you that the cwm recovery 5(blue font) is having a few bugs but the cwm recovery 4(orange font) works perfectly so i prefer that and i got success in flashing cyanogenmod 7.

[Q] HELP ! Phone doesn't start [lg 4x]

Hello,
I use an LG 4x HD,
First I've root me phone thanks to this tuto and it worked.
Then I tried to install clockworkmod recovery thanks to this tuto but it doesn't worked well. When I started for the first time in recovery mode I had clockworkmod recovery but not the other times. I had to lunch angain the application and do the manipulation another time to be able to acces again to clockworkmod recovery. When I havn't got it I have the stock recovery with just few options.
Finaly I wanted to install the CustoNexus rom thanks to this tuto (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2096482) but it failed
and now my phone doesn't want to start, it is block on the start screen and I can't access to the clockworkmod recovery.
Please, if you have a solution help me please !
Thanks for your help
(sorry for my bad english, I'm french )
Hey, and welcome to XDA
don't worry, it's only a softbrick, you can easily restore stock via flashing a KDZ (easy guide, look here)
or if you want to try to enter CWM, you can try this, but due to your flashing i'm not sure if it works...
btw, did you perform a factory reset before booting?
and you can enter CWM only via the app from a working system, or via the script, linked above (due to the bootstrap method)
When ADB is working on your device you have to look at this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2006168
And try this before you make a factory reset in Stock Recovery.
(USB-Debuging and ADB access can be lost at reset and you have to flash a kdz...)
But I think, the default.prop in CustoNexus has USB Debuging enabled...

but due to his flashing, i don't think CWM will be working... maybe ADB neither...
Thank you for your quick answers.
I'm going to try your first solution with KDZ.
And I did a factory reset before booting. (answer to your question laufersteppenwolf)
Conclusion : it works !!!
Thanks a lot laufersteppenwolf !

[Q] Can't boot into recovery [CM10.1+Semaphore]

Hey! I got big problem, I can't open the recovery mode after updating my CyanogenMod to the latest RC4 version. After that i flashed Semaphore 2.9.25 kernel, and today I can't open recovery anymore After using Vol Up+Home+Power i see semaphore boot animation freezes for like 20 sec, then CM starts.
So what should I do to get into recovery mode again? I don't know if installing nightly updates will work (recovery doesn't work so how it will be updated), maybe using SGS Kernel Flasher will help?
Please help me solve my problem
Flash a rom with Odin
Go back to stock, try upgrade to CM10.1 again.
Alternatively if you want to learn how to use it you could try using ADB to force recovery. There are guides somewhere in these forums. But going back to stock would probably be easier...

Today I accidentally dropped my phone, and after back to home... I tried to open recovery CMW again - and it surprisingly worked so I was able to update my kernel
But thank you for future solutions, I'd further try to flash only kernel via Odin
