[Q] Can't boot into recovery [CM10.1+Semaphore] - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey! I got big problem, I can't open the recovery mode after updating my CyanogenMod to the latest RC4 version. After that i flashed Semaphore 2.9.25 kernel, and today I can't open recovery anymore After using Vol Up+Home+Power i see semaphore boot animation freezes for like 20 sec, then CM starts.
So what should I do to get into recovery mode again? I don't know if installing nightly updates will work (recovery doesn't work so how it will be updated), maybe using SGS Kernel Flasher will help?
Please help me solve my problem

Flash a rom with Odin

Go back to stock, try upgrade to CM10.1 again.
Alternatively if you want to learn how to use it you could try using ADB to force recovery. There are guides somewhere in these forums. But going back to stock would probably be easier...

Today I accidentally dropped my phone, and after back to home... I tried to open recovery CMW again - and it surprisingly worked so I was able to update my kernel
But thank you for future solutions, I'd further try to flash only kernel via Odin

[Q] Messed up installing CM7.1

I had a stock I9000 with 2.3.4 XXJVQ. I rooted it with CF-ROOT 3.7 using these instructions: androidadvices.com/root-samsung-galaxy-gt-i9000-android-234-xxjvq-firmware/3/ and CF-Root-XX_UNK_JVQ-v3.7-CWM3RFS.tar and Odin3 v1.7 from the provided archive.
These worked all right and it also installed CWM 2.0
Then I downloaded CM7.1 stable from here: cyanogenmod.com/devices/samsung-galaxy-s and followed the instructions here to install: wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S:_Full_Update_Guide#Method_via_Recovery
I wiped the data, wiped the cache and then selected "Install zip from sdcard" and then I choose the CM7.1 zip file and after a few seconds the phone entered a reboot cycle. For a moment the Cyanomodgen logo and the Samsung logo appeared, then a few lines of text, and then it rebooted and did the same.
I've waited about 10 minutes and nothing changed, and then proceeded to install CF-ROOT again via Odin thinking that it would solve it and revert back to what I had. Boy, was I wrong! Now it just hangs on the Samsung logo screen.
The phone still enters Download mode, so from what I've read it's recoverable, but I'm kinda scared to try anything else without knowing for sure that it would work because I don't want to brick it harder.
Since I'm a new user, the forum won't let me link properly. Sorry.
Any advice? Thanks.

Can you get 3 button recovery again? If you can just reflash cm7
Instead of reflashing the kernel through Odin you should have taken out the battery. Then 3 button comboed back into recovery and reflashed cm7
If you can't get into recovery again reflash a stock rom with odin.. then a kernel then has cwm recovery.. reboot into recovery mode then flash cm7.. and if you get the same boot loop as before pull the battery, 3 button into recovery and flash cm7 again.. then you will be good to go

First time I entered CWM using the CWM app and selecting "reboot into CWM". Is there another combo besides home+vol down+power for dl mode?
Could you recomend a good stock ROM?
Thanks

volume up, home and power will give you recovery when your phone is turned off..
Any stock gingerbread will do when trying to go to cm7

The first time you flash CM7, you might need to flash it twice. AKA
1) Flash once
2) Reboot. Now you are stuck in bootloop.
3) Pull battery. Go into recovery mode again
4) Flash cm7 again
5) Should boot normally now.
It's a common occurrence.
Oops beat me to it
It doesn't go into recovery anymore (home+vol up+power). I'll try to flash a stock ROM with Odin and see how it goes.
Edit1:
For people having this problem. I've flashed using the ROM and instructions here:
androidadvices.com/update-samsung-galaxy-i9000-official-gingerbread-235-xfjva-firmware/2/
This is 2.3.5 XXJVT
Edit2:
I've went to this thread:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108
and got the proper CF-ROOT for XXJVT and flashed it with Odin3 v1.7
Edit3:
I've installed CM7.1 using the instructions linked in the first post and everything worked out fine. Thanks everybody.

[Q] Stuck on Boot Screen

Hi all
N7000 @ 4.1.2 with PhilZ.Speedmod
Odd behaviour began a few days ago: Single tap power button would cause the Reboot/Airplane mode menu followed by a crash a few seconds later. This became more and more likely to happen so I wiped user data and performed a full factory reset/cache wipe etc.
Went through the android start up as per usual and only installed non-root apps just to be on the safe side (except Titanium Backup - which i use to freeze Touchwiz).
About 4 hours after, same problem only this time it wont get past Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Splash screen image at all.
A new battery was inserted a few days ago - could this have damaged the board maybe?
Recovery STILL works but I don't have any backup images.
Odin recognizes the phone in download mode
Should I try a different kernel/rom?
Really lost without my note.
Any help gratefully receieved!
Regards
Warnoceros
I am having the same issue. Was on Carbon Rom and everything was working fine, then after a restart the phone cannot pass the boot animation. It just shuts off right in the middle of booting. Have tried to reflash back to GB and still the same issue.

Okay, so reflashed and the phone booted fine but i'm still getting this intermittent 'power button causing crash' fault. Tried a couple of different Roms and am still getting the same problem.
Could it be a hardware problem?
Thanks
Warnoceros
Yeah it seems to be a hardware issue.. Wait for someone else more experienced then me to see this thread maybe he/she can suugest you a way to get out of this problem.. If you have warranty then do claim it before it's too late

the battery might be failing and have caused something that messed up the filesystem; try installing another battery and reflash any rom with wipes etc and see if it boots up
What kernel do you use exactly?..philz or speedmod?...
If you on philz or speedmod kernel I suggest you make a clean install,
Reboot recovery full wipe..
Reboot to download mode,
Flash stock GB or JB..
If you flash JB, download philz kernel.zip and flash through stock recovery...

Hi
My stock JB official unrooted rom suddenly went to a bootloop. I looked up online for solutions and flashed an official JB ROM for my phone and Odin failed to flash it. I tried Philz recovery but Odin failed to flash it. I got a yellow triangle which I was able to removie through Odin. Currently my phone is stuck on the splash screen. Recovery doesn't work. Odin fails when I try to reflash with a md5.tar file. Please experts help me with my problem. would really appreciate it.
Thanks in advance.

you usually get stuck in a boot loop when you forget to wipe dalvik cache and factory reset the phone before installing a custom rom

Try the following please, you must have Android SDK installed beforehand:

[Q] Please help, need to flash kernel I think

Hi
I'm having a few problems with my trusty Galaxy S.
I tried to update to Cyanogen 10, got it installed through Clockwork mod no probs. I had a few problems with it , thought I'd try 9 as my friend gets on great with that.
It hasn't successfully flashed though. It's stuck in a loop where it enters Clockwork, then crashes back to the loading screen. I haven't done much of this for ages so guess I got careless and made an error somewhere.
I assume I need to flash through Odin now as I can still get to download mode, but not recovery. I don't know which kernel to get and use though? no idea what will work and don't want to brick my phone. I'd just like a working kernel that so I can put Cyanogen on again. Any advice is appreciated thanks.

Thanks that worked just fine. Nearly bricked the phone using someone's restore to stock guide. But now this kernel has installed fine.
Unfortunately I am trying to flash cm10, it installs fine, but it just loads back up into recovery mode, and wont boot properly.
Does anyone have any ideas on how I can get out of this CWM recovery boot-loop I'm stuck in?
The Semaphore Kernel is just stuck for me.

Keeps rebooting to cwm after installing CM

Here is what I did with the phone:
- Flashed JVU via odin
- Flashed CF-Root with CWM via odin
- Wipe EVERYTHING
- Flashed semaphore kernel for 4.3 via CWM
- Rebooted to CWM
- Flashed CM 10.2 stable via CWM
- Flashed semaphore again
- Flashed gapps
And now the phone keeps rebooting to CWM everytime I power it on. It never goes to Android, it always boots to CWM. Any ideas?
Of course, i tried to flash CM / semaphore / gapps again but it keeps doing the same. Flashing only CM does not work either

What do you mean exactly? ;_;
By the way it seems to work after flashing a samsung stock ROM but it does the same everytime I try to install CM. And I have done it before, I don't understand this ;_; (I decided to start over again because I was having trouble to downgrade from 4.4)
Have you find a solution? I faced the same problem and after reading half of the day on this forum I managed to find a solution to go back to stock and restore the phone functionality. Now I only have to flash CWM/TWRP and start to flash custom ROMs again
Let me know if you still need help.
The correct procedure to come to any ROM is from GB>ICS>JB>KK. So make sure that you are following the correct procedure

[Q] N7000 won't boot into Recovery

Hello XDA,
I've flashed Dirty Unicorns on my Note. I had followed the instructions but then I unfortunately installed the RAW Kernel AS last (twrp zip queuing) and i rebooted the system and not the recovery. My note starts to the title " Samsung Galaxy Note N7000" and freezes. I tried with pressing the key combination to go to the recovery but i dont have success. The screen is black and when i take my hands from the keys , the samsung title appears....Are there solutions to go into the recovery ?
Thank you very much and sorry for my bad english!
Thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2633846
Remove and reinsert the battery. Then keep the power volume up and home pressed till you see the note n7000 screen.. Let it go.. If you see twrp screen then wait..
Else,
Download philz XXLTA tar kernel file and flash it using odin.. Then again try to boot into recovery.
First, I want to express my sincerest acknowledgements. I am very grateful for you helping me in this desperate situation.
The first solution didn't work for me, the second one requires access to my Note's recovery mode.
Unfortunately, I am unable to boot into any mode, all I am able to see is Samsung's logo.
Try to use ADB to boot your phone into download mode, or try directly to go to download mode. Flash custom rom or just a kernel that gives you root permissions and ther try to re-begin the process of custom rom flash. If it does not work, try to read some posts about soft-brick

This should certainly get you into download mode.
From there another option (which I usually use) is to extract boot.img from your last working custom rom. Then flash that boot.img to kernel partition using heimdall.

Nice method... But raw kernel uses modules and blobs and downgrading from that needs a reflash of rom.

You are right. This step is mainly to get back a partially working ROM with a recovery. For full recovery back then will need a dirty reflash of ROM then things should work again.

Hello,
pardon me for my late reply. I was unable to charge the battery with the RAW kernel, but a friend charged my battery, which allowed me to solve my main problkem using ADB to get acces to the download mode.
I then flashed a rooted kernel and a custom rom, and now my note is working fine again
I am glad to be able to count on you, this forum is a true saviour in desperate situations.
