If you can use your unlimited data plan on a phone, then there should be no issue on the Galaxy Camera. Essentially as far as data is concerned, it uses the same data traffic as a smartphone. You may be uploading more pictures, but if you are regularly connected to WiFi hotspots then you can minimise that usage too.

My brother is looking to finally get rid of his blackberry and wants this phone. He plans on upgrading either through website or att store.
He still has his unlimited data plan which brings me to my question, to anyone who has recently upgraded; if he upgrades, will he still be able to keep his unlimited data plan. Does he have to do something special to keep it?

i was able to keep my unlimited plan when i upgraded from my iphone 3gs to this...
He will get to keep his plan as Pirate has said. He is grandfathered in, just as my dad was from his iPhone 3GS.
That's good, wish I has the money for an unlimited package before they left. Thanks for your help.

What do you mean "free"? It depends on your data plan...

Yes, if you have a unlimited data package, then there will be no additional charges. However, if you do not have one, you will exceed your cap quickly, and they will charge you accordingly.

Even with an unlimited data package, isn't there fine print somewhere that says there is a 5gb data transfer limit?

Unaware of such fine print, but if you do find it... can you let us know?
I just checked the fine print. The 5gb cap applies to roaming, air cards, and tethering. (like if you added a tethering option to your plan) Using wifi tether or USB tether should show up as normal data usage.

The only thing they can do because u signed for unlimited data is they could throttle you meaning they will slow your internet connection down but ive never herd sprint doing this however tmobile will if you go over 5g a month but they wont actually charge you extra

From my understanding (and no, i've never seen it in writing), most of the
carriers enforce a cap, somewhere between 5 and 10gb, depending. If you are
on an unlimited data plan, they can't charge you more, so they just throttle
your connection to limit your data for the rest of the billing cycle. I could be
wrong on this though, haven't even come close to capping.
As far as charges for tethering, if you asked your carrier, they'd be more than
happy to charge you the $30 tethering fee (or whatever it may be). My feeling
is that if you are already paying for unlimited data, and you aren't abusing the
service, it's not right for them to charge you extra for a feature your phone
should include.
The only company ive known to inforce throtlling is tmobile theyll send, out a text saying we are resticting your data conection through this billing cycle howver i hVe never had that on sprint and my brother has been fine on his dx on verizon and hes been using wireless tether for a couple of months now

Don't worry about data caps on sprint. Sprint is the only provider that has truly unlimited data and won't charge you extra, throttle you, or drop you for using enormous amounts of data. The CEO of sprint proclaimed this about a year ago i believe
oh i forgot. Applications such as PDAnet allows you to tether your phone without letting the carrier know so they think its normal data usage. I doubt they will give you a call asking but if they do just tell them you browse the internet with your phone a lot. They can't prove it
If your ROOTED it is!!

My brother has unlimited data and tethers his xbox for online play and other stuff he normally does on his phone. He never hits 5gb. Although he doesn't use it for computers which I'm sure would use now data

My phone is rooted but bootloader is unlock able as its a T-Mobile Sony xperia z. Is there anyway that I can use a wifi tether app to take advantage of my unlimited data? I haven't been able to find one with the right settings. Thanks

Yeah I know about that. The only thing is if I use it like that T-Mobile only gives me 2.5 gigs of lte. I wanted to know if there was a way I could take advantage of my unlimited data plan as a wifi hotspot.

Hmmm, think you'll have to talk to T-Mobile support. I thought if you ave LTE flat you also can use it with other devices via WiFi Tethering.
Are there any options for running a WiFi hotspot on 4.4.4 VZW? I tried FoxFi and it said WiFi hotspot is blocked by the latest update. I'm currently not rooted.
Thanks!

I believe the only way is to do it either via USB or bluetooth.
I hotspot off my moto x to my laptop with no issues and also hotspot for my tablet...without usb cable or bluetooth...i just turn on hotspot and go.
You need root to WiFi hostpot. All the methods that I am aware of requires it. Soon we should have a boot loader unlock, which will get you root and let you do this. Until then USB or patience is your answer sadly.
I don't pay the hotspot fee, so the built in hot spot doesn't work. Frustrating that they make hotspotting so difficult even though I'm allowed to do it by law (I have a data cap). Guess I'll just wait for root. Thanks!

So you're not on the old unlimited data plan?
I thought Verizon enabled the hot spot feature on your phone automatically once you were on a tiered data plan, since it uses data from your tiered data.
You can always call them and ask.
That's the frustrating part, I switched to a 6GB plan partially because of the hotspot feature but they still block it on my phone. They gave me some whacky reason when I called them, something to do with the price tier I'm in.
I thought they weren't allowed to restrict bandwidth on the LTE spectrum as per their deal with the FCC, but I guess they found a loophole.

first, i'd read your TOS to see if it's mentioned there, then i'd call back and complain and then escalate to a manager. tethering is included in the share everything plans, so if you're on some unique plan, you may be out of luck.
