When I make a call the front speak doesn't work, there is no sound. But when I activate the back speak the sound will work from there. I've tried doing a factory reset and that didn't help. Anyone have any suggestion on fixing this?
Also when I try to play the MP3 playing through the phones speakers there's no sound. In the sound settings when adjusting the volumes it'll preview the ringtone and alert sounds but not the media ones. It looks like the sound on all apps, media and phone calls (not though the speakerphone) aren't working.

I found the answer, apparently I was using a skullcandy apple headphone jack that came with my ski helmet. It messes with the phone jack and makes the phone think the headphones are still plugged in.
I'm not sure how to delete the post. Please ignore it.

Hi, I have an Incredible S, is released but it comes from Bell Movility, this updated with the latest version, but the phone behaves very strange, because sometimes when putting the music player that does not sound from the speaker sounds by earphone to ear, other posts can not get either sms or mms, play a sound, if anyone knows the solution please let me know.
Thank you.
What do you actually mean?
You plug in earphone, playing music but the sound don't really go thru earphone?
after sometime my captivate speaker wont let me play any music but all the ringtones are ringing and sound is working perfectly on the loud speaker .. but when i play music from a music player there is no sound .. i did flash the stock rom and still the same problem any help ??
front speaker dosent work either ??
If you think all your volume settings are correct, then answer the following questions:
Can you make phone calls normally?
Yes - front speaker is OK
No - front speaker problem
Is your phone ringing normally?
Yes - rear speaker OK
No - rear speaker problem
Do you have a problem with specific app only?
Yes - check app settings (any updates lately?)
No, multiple apps problem - check your volume settings again
Your description sounds like you are having a software problem with the same app on different ROMs.

anymore help ?
Did you try another music player?
If your front speaker is not working during a phone call, then it's broken. This issue though is not related with your app not playing music.

You are not getting more answers because you don't describe your problem well. You've been asked 3 times have you tried another music player... and your answer is? I have a feeling you are confused which speaker is "front" and which is "back". In 2 consecutive replies I got 2 completely opposite answers from you.
Front speaker is the tiny one with a little black mesh and it will never play any music. It's one and only purpose is to hear other party during a normal phone call. Rear speaker is the one under battery door. It's purpose is to play all system sounds (rings, notifications, etc), work as speakerphone during a phone call (only if speakerphone enabled) and play music when no headphones attached (if Media Volume is properly set, of course).

i know your confused
yes i did try other music players .. i have tried other stock roms . front speaker dosent work when i a phone call .. and the rear speaker works when incoming a call but when playing music it dosent work. if i go to settings and change a ringtone then the rear speaker works . and when in a phone call if i turn on the speaker it works .
hope this helps
OK, lets fight one issue at a time:
1. As I understand, your tiny front speaker never works. If it's correct, then it is broken - hardware issue, can't fix it with software updates/changes. Needs to be replaced.
2. Your back speaker plays ringtones and notifications, but not music in any player. Obviously, the speaker itself is OK, but something else prevents music to play on it. Could be two reasons:
a) software issue with the app(s) you are using or with media volume control settings (you said you checked this already)
b) since ringtones and notifications always play through rear speaker and never through headphones, your phone might think headphones are plugged in and this is why it never plays music through back speaker. I've seen similar issue with an iPhone. The cause was dirty headphone jack. Small resistance between ground and L/R contacts makes the phone think headphones are plugged in. This causes the same issue as yours - you hear the phone ringing, but you can't play music. If you hear the music normally through your headphones, than all you need to do is to clear very well the phone jack. If it doesn't help, than more "aggressive" cleaning is needed. If it was my phone I would dissemble it and clean the PCB thoroughly.
3. If nothing helps, than you need a new phone. There is no point to pay for diagnostic/repairs on a 3y old phone.

it was after i tried slimbean
i think your right maybe i will clean it will let you know
the tiny speaker worked but after slimbean it stopped and like spending 2 dyas on a stock rom everything worked great and again after slimbean its gone
SlimBean is not the cause of your problems. Like many other users here, I'm currently running SlimBean with no sound issues.
Tone sound on device is often working

I know this might sound off, and I could be wrong, but if all else fails read up on taking the phone apart and re-seat the ribbon for the rear speaker/vibration component and re-seat the connector for the headphone jack/ front speaker/ proximity sensor component.
Yes, it seems weird that the rear speaker seems to work for some things but not others but I had your exact problem after I dropped my phone. After re-seating the rear speaker ribbon my problem was fixed. I've been using it with no issues now almost a year after I did this.
The only reason I say to re-seat both is that I did push on the phone jack connector too so I suppose that could have fixed it, but I'm fairly certain that the rear speaker ribbon was my issue....What happens is the ribbon works itself out of its seat in an off center fashion so the ribbon ends up almost crooked as can be seen when you look at the printed lines used to ensure it has been inserted all the way.

Hello,
I am noticing problems in the sound of my Z1, mostly only with its external speaker (I mean, not when using headphones). So I am pretty sure it is not a software problems, or it should be through the headphones too.
I have played some songs to test it well, disabling all the clear audio, normalizations, jingles and bells. Also the eq disabled, xLoud disabled. All the sliders of the eq at min (-10). Then I have put the first slider (400hz) at 0, and moved it between 0 and +10, adding later also the 1khz one.
This way I was able to track the problem. Can you please confirm if you too, with some different songs, can hear from the speaker a somehow distorted cracking sound? You can play also with the volume, normalization and xLoud to make it more evident to your ears.
I also have noticed this problem using some free apps to make music. So I would like to invite you to try it too, with any app you may have to make music, or try the one I used, which is SphereTones. With this app I can clearly notice that the sound is perfect through the headphones, bad through the speaker.
Then I tried an app called Springs (if you search for it you find many and I cannot post link because this is my first post, so, well, it is an app whose name is simply "Springs", with a white icon with black spheres. Developer bérenger recoules, category "music & audio"). With this app the sound is very bad also through the headphones. The developer has got no idea why and the reviews are good so I am curious to discover with you if the problem is in every Z1.
I also have noticed that the quality of all possible audio recordings (audio notes with any note app, also the mini app of the Z1, and also the apps to make loops with your voice) is very bad.
And finally, the phone calls quality is not so good. In this case there is no difference between headphones of speaker, so I have no idea why.
I discovered that in the call settings there is an eq and setting it to smooth is a good idea, also by disabling the speaker voice enhancement the problem is reduced, but not completely. Basically, the sound is somehow buzzing/crackling/scratching.
So.
Do I have a faulty phone?
THANKS
Well mate you skip important part.
If you suspect it's software fault - could you tell us which firmware are you using?
Are you on 4.3 or 4.2.2?
I don't have that problems, I found XZ1 very good, clear and loud (I'm not even using my bluetooth handsfree anymore - in the car - I just flip to speaker and I hear other side loud and clear).
Also, even I'm not that much into music - I'm very satisfied with sound (YouTube or walkman)...
Sent from my Z1
Mine sounds fine too, back on 4.2 and still in 4.3
Sent from my C6906 using Tapatalk
Ah, right, sorry
So, 4.2.2, because the 4.3 is not yet available in Germany.
All the apps and system, all is updated to last version.
I did a factory reset and also a software repair with the pc companion, but nothing changes (apart the lost of time and some problems while recovering the backup, damn it..).
Ok, faulty phone then?
Did you try with this spheretones app? I am curios because with that app (which well, the only problem is that sometimes it is kind of difficult to create the sphere) the distortion is very clear, while with music it depends on the music, some make it more obvious...
Hi people
So here's the issue. Yesterday I was playing music through my speakers, all was fine, then I stopped the music. Later I put my headphones in the phone but there's no sound. Then I tried through the phone speakers. Still no sound. I've tried re flashing kernel and ROM, but it's still the same. I'm guessing something has possibly fried on the main board that deals with all sound through headphones and speakers? Mic is fine though.
If anyone has had this issue before or any info I'd love to know about it.
Peace out
UPDATE: the top speaker works on calls I can hear the other person (unless this is another speaker in the grill), and I can also hear a very faint sound through headphones. I saw someone else with the same issue and someone advised to delete Google play services data, which I did, but to no avail
Very similar problem here - no speaker audio, no headset audio (I don't think I'm getting even faint sound through the headset jack), but bluetooth audio works fine. I've tried restoring from two different Nandroid backups with no luck and am now restoring back to today's nandroid.
If anyone has any info or even guesses about this, let us know...
I've already found out that this happens due to a flex cable over heating internally. Not sure which internal flex cable as there are multiple and the audio Jack and speaker flex cables don't seem to be linked. I'm taking mine to a shop
So I was happily using my phone for music. Using earphones. Running PAC 4.4.4 with a locked bootloader. Decided to phone my mother on the way back from college. Can't here her. No earphones connected. No sound through earpiece, switched to loudspeaker this worked and I could hear her. ( though she could also hear herself due an issue with PAC ROM)
I tested my phone's audio when I got back using Deezer here are the results:
Loudspeaker: No sound volume. Tried adjusting still no sound
Headphone jack output: normal sound and quality.
I then used an app to switch audio to earpiece: sound is breaky uppy. Stuttery very much broken.
I then tried switching device on and off. No result.
Sound plays on volume adjustment of ring volume only.
Tried other sound sources anything to do with ring or notification sound plays from loudspeaker.
So confused thought it could be viper for android.
I changed to the new stock based 4.3 ROM by killawave.
The problems stays I reflashed kernel both .205. And .207
I've resorted to believing its tondo with the headphone jack ( so I'm removing screws from my phone to see if I can open the port and fix it. But I have hit a stubborn screw. Feeling quite frustrated by this.
Does anyone know about this problem? Or how to solve it.
I think I have a solution
But it's temperorary. Sound plays if I download an app called SoundAbout from Google play. I went into connectable devices --> wired headset settings --> disable wired headset detection.
Essentially all sounds work now
But before all volumes but media volume would work.
From testing it is definitely earphone jack failure:
I'll try a toothpick massage to the port to see if it works wish me luck
If you think it might could be firmware, you can consider to flash a ftf file and start all over...

Thanks,
Thanks for the suggestion but I heavily doubt the issue is software related. I've tried going stock. But didn't solve the issue. Its hardware damage for sure either physical or moisture. But not sure how moisture could of entered. I'm sure of it as twiddling a paper clip in it solved audio for a few seconds but replugging earphones in resets the issue. I'll try a bowl of rice overnight to remove any moisture if any. I will open it up using solder on the dodgy screw tomorrow.
