So after much deliberation over which tab to get I plumped for a nook HD, got a cracking deal via eBay, bought a memory card, installed android as a dual boot, absolutely loving it. Had it exactly one week and... dropped a bottle of beer and cracked the top of the screen. Haven't even had it long enough for the lovely leather case I ordered for it to arrive. Gutted.
Anyway, can someone please let me know if its possible to replace the screen and how much it would cost. I'm in the UK.
The nook is still usable as it is, if a little delicate, but the cracks will soon worsen I'm sure.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Probably not since he bought from ebay. Assuming it is used of course.
Haven't heard of any place that has replacement parts so far though.

Well, he still might be able to get it fixed through B&N, even if he has to pay.

Look around.com there is a tear down thread to see what you are getting into

I have already contacted B&N and they basically told me feck off as they have no repair centre. If it gets any worse then I'll see what options there are for fixing it myself. Gulp.
Thanks
yep, BN also says to throw the device out and get a new one when the battery is end of life. The advantage to buying from BN is that you can get the full replacement warranty at sales time.
FWIW, the warranty (standard 1 year for defects, or extra dollar replacement) from BN transfers with the device, so a used HD / HD+ does have that warranty. Sadly, it does not include damage sustained in bar fights.
I looked for the teardown and am only seeing one for the HD+ units (via the FCC) - it was originally described as an HD teardown, but it is not.
I'm not seeing a source for a 1440 x 900 IPS touchscreen display, let alone a 7" one but I know there are shops who can order spare iPhone screens and even fit them for you. Definitely worth calling one or two of those if you have any locally - they may only be able to source Apple replacements, or they may have a contact who can ask about these screens, too.

I have a similar situation; HD+ fell out of my wife's purse while unloading our son from the car and it landed screen-down on the pavement, cracking the screen. My question is this: does the entire screen module need to be replaced, or can the glass be replaced separately (assuming I can locate a source)? What are the part numbers for these options, if you have them?

I dropped my nook on the patio last night and I have a spiderweb series of cracks on it. Everything still works which is good. I've looked at a couple tutorials on the web for tearing it apart and it seems pretty easy. The only place I found to buy a new screen is this auction on ebay.
So, has anyone bought one from this place? Know of any others? ANyone here done a successful screen replacement?
A factory refurb is now $199 on eBay with free shipping. I think I would go with that and not mess with this, but if you want a challenge.......
I too need a new screen. I have a friend that basically makes a living repairing phones and replacing screens. I think he could do it, but I can't be sure that is the correct screen. Price seems a little high. I message that seller, but no response.
While I was at my friend's business talking about this, someone else called looking to replace a nook color.screen.
I cracked the screen on my first NC, and it's now a pile of parts waiting for a replacement. Side-note, thanks for that link...
It's really easy to change. If you've ever serviced electronics before, this is a no-brainer. No soldering required, all you need is a small flat blade driver or the proper T5 torx driver. I used the flat blade on my Leatherman. B-)
If you can take pictures on how to replace the screen or open a separate thread, that would rock!!
you can see pics of the teardown here.
or youtube video
Does that mean we can replace the battery-pack ourselves if there's replacement?
Yea, should be easy enough. It's adhered to the mounting plate, which needs to be removed to access the battery wires and connector.

I doubt it's a Nook Color battery. Replacements for the original Nook are commonly available and easily changed.
Hi Guys,
I recently got an HD+, liking it so far, but there's one issue that really bugs me. Finger prints are REALLY visible on this screen.
Are there any good screen protectors (that happen to be cheap) that guard against this? Thanks!

Cheap, no, but good, yes. The B&N anti-glare. Does wonders on prints. And it is on sale at B&N now.

I got this one from ebay. It's relatively cheap and does the job perfectly.
I'm mainly concerned with protecting my screen from damage, but I've been using Green Onions Supply Crystal Anti-Fingerprint Screen Protector from Amazon on a pair of Nook HD+ tablets at my house and they've held up very well for months. They do require cleaning sometimes, but everything does I suppose.
Which if any anti-glare ones dont ruin the color/pixel appearance (?)
I love a dock for a phone or a tablet. Just sitting on my desk for easy access and easy charging. I've not been able to find one that looked like it would work. Obviously no first party, and haven't found any third party either.
Anyone found something, or had success modding something else to work?
BN actually does sell one, Google it. $40 is a bit steep though, I'd wait for a sale or coupon (ppl sometimes post them here).

Not so much of a dock, but heres a stand i made acouple weekends ago.
Its made from aluminium and some brass.
The main thing i wanted was to be able to kick the nook up on end while i was at work to read eBooks but, also be able to have the nook plugged in to charge or plug in a USB drive.
Diffinitly have to be careful with the two "knobs" on the front which are used to hold the nook in the stand, to tight and you could crush the nook. So are its been working pretty good. The side knobs are used to tighten/loosen the stand to you can tilt the nook at different angle.

hahaha... by "trade" im a machinist. The place i work for is down sizing and come Jan ill be out of work and will probably be going to school/collage. I bought the Nook to study up for the admittance tests (its been a while since ive been in high school) and read/study while im at work. I bought a real screen protector, but at work my hands are grimy and i did not want to ruin it in the short time (three months) so what you see is the plastic sleeve that the Nook comes in when you buy them... in that picture its all crinkled and messed up. After Jan i will put the real scree protector on.
I made the stand in my basement, if it was not so time consuming i would try and sell them, but for the cost of the material and my time invested it would be priced around $75! lol
One nice thing about it though, it will probably out last my nook

Well that makes sense then. Sucks your going to be out of work though, I'm in my 30's and started up college a couple years ago so I was nervous about the entry exams as well. They aren't that bad though. Good luck with the schooling.

My kids broke my Nook HD+ screen. I've found some places that advertise screens for $30-50 but the only ones I've found in stock are $150 or higher. I can get a used nook for that much.
Is there a place to get a screen cheap enough to make it worth while to repair it?
Well I seem to be the first one to break ground here. I am now the owner of a BLU r1 HD with a smashed lcd. It appears to be disintegrating as I go. So first, those of you who like this phone, I highly recommend some kind of case and screen protector. Secondly, anyone know where one might get a cheap replacement screen? Looking at ebay I can see one for pretty much the price of the phone. If anyone knows where to get a part, it would be appreciated as I was starting to like this phone.

Seems kind of high priced though
Oh yeah, saw that one previously. It doesn't seem to be available and even so, at that price I may as well buy a new one. Thanks though.
Except you can't buy a second Prime phone of the same model as one that you have purchased before.
You can buy a 8gb/1gb if you already purchased the 16gb/2gb model BUT they are no longer are listed in Amazon site.
I've not no luck with the glass screen protectors. The outer extreme don't stick. Only using a TPU case.

My screen is cracked, and was wondering if taking off the glass and putting on a case with built in screen protector can work? Any ideas?
LCD is working fine, just the glass is broken...
The phone bent in my back pocket.
The LCD is not meant to be touched and is easily damaged. I would try to buy another prime phone from amazon. If you find that you can't, because it won't allow it at the prime price, call customer service and explain the situation. Offer to send them pictures of the serial number screen showing the broken glass. At $60, it's simply not worth repairing. I bought a spare one by having a friend with prime order it and have it shipped directly to me - so that's another option you have if amazon still won't sell you another one.
