Don't worry, the Nexus 7 is by far the easiest device to mod/flash/rom, IMHO. Wegfresh is by far my favorite.
Hi there,
If you got one than u have a fine taste. hehe. Its a brilliant piece of device. Congrats.
Regarding the flashing and stuff, gotta be honest, i have mine for two weeks now and still no flashing. It feels so great with stock mode still, so flashing will not happen for now. But good luck with it.

Great purchase
You don‘t really need to root for general everyday usage. Stock Android is already free of crapware unlike most other builds that OEMs use.
Enjoy it
Don't use tool kits man just follow this guide you can't go wrong http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1816048
I am rooted but running stock 4.2.2 with bricked kernel and its great enjoy your device

I have yet to find a rom that is stable with the nexus. I get a bunch of FCs with all roms. WHY!! They all look sexy as hell! They dont function right tho. Yes twrp is installed. Thats wat i run on my note. I might do a full restore then redo drivers. I might have got bad drivers or something is not intagrating well with a DL

you need to read the stickies in every part of the hero forum and do some google searches and you will see what you need to do. after about two weeks of reading and lurking here you will have all the info you need to make your phone awesome.
heres a good first step for you though
flash a custom recovery, then flash a custom rom.

Rooting your phone wont change the way it looks... you just have root access, that gives you the ability to change any thing you want... like the way it looks.

Now you want it to look different ?
Now you get to decide how you want it to look and operate. Your going to be the one doing this so you got some more work ahead of you... so you best get at it.( You actually didn't think it would be magically different by just rooting it did you ? ) That my friend is just the first step of the actual process..Now...go look at all of the different custom roms built for it and all of the different custom themes available..then... once you have a good idea of what you would like on your phone..start reading all you can about the rom & theme of your choice.Start at the beginning of the threads and read everything there..all of the issues and all the problems folks may have had and how they got fixed. This will save you a-lot of grief once your actually ready to make the switch.
I have found there are plenty of good folks here that will help you once you make up your mind of what you want to do to your phone..
Good Luck...& Good Reading to ya

Hello everyone!
My name is Anastasia, I am 19 years old, from London.
Yesterday, I bought myself (thanks to my payday) a brand new Asus Google Nexus 7, 32gb, from Argos (shop).
I keep reading what you get with root, and it made me WANT to root it.
Here's my information:
Nexus 7
JOP40D
4.2.1
So, the tablet is brand new, and I HAVEN'T touched it, except when I downloaded few Apps. So, all I want, is to ROOT it in the safest and easiest way. I am scared that it brakes? Anyways, what is the FIRST step? I need it rooted and ready to rock. (Themes, Hide bar, etc.). What, Should, I, Do? Thanks a lot to everyone! I hope I can make it? Take care xoxo
Welcome to the NEXUS 7 BANDWAGON.

Don't worry. The Nexus 7 is almost unbrickable (can't break it by messing with the software).
You should definatly root it, and when you get the knowladge of what you are doing get a custom recovery, and flash a new ROM, maybe a theme. Trust me you just got a device running android. It's never ending fun. :highfive:
Here you go. http://xda-university.com/.
That site will help you learn what you are doing.
U can try wugfresh toolkit. That's what i used and has the instructions with it. You will need to have adb set up. there video on YouTube showing steps to set it up with the nexus 7As for roms i have smoothrom installed u can change your theme with theme manager. U can download the themes from playmarket or on the xdA website.

Woah! Is that a brick? Nope. You can still go to the recovery partition and reflash a different kernel. Or you can boot to the bootloader and use fastboot to flash a new kernel. If you were bricked you would never be able to use your device again.

You're doing it wrong.
I've had 3 nexus devices and two galaxy S devices and I have NEVER had that happen. Ever.
Secondly that isn't a brick, that, at most, is a mild inconvenience.

You got already answers in your first thread four days ago related to the same question.
Why don't you follow the hints and given links to tutorial there?
And in April the same before.
And then one year ago in April 2012 again. And of course you made two threads even then.
Having fun with this method?

It's not a big brother, I'm right now trying to get slim again.
I got used to look into older postings of a member when he asks a question. Sometimes you'll get the necessary details from his older posts.
Example: why searching for a mistake in a Rom when someone whines about freezes when a post before he wrote that he OC'ed his Kernel to 1600?
But in this case I acted like a BB after seeing the repeated orgy: it was even fun to answer him with his own history.
By the way: he got the Dr. Ketan link already in 2012...
Clearly I'm asking these questions again because I didn't have any success rooting the 1st time round.
As for orgies?!? Maybe opening the door and breathing some air would help remind you there's a big world outside with lots going on.
I was looking for some help delivered to me in a beginner's language I understand, not grandiose frustration that I had the idiocy to ask the same questions

Since April 2012 members gave you the links to the tutorials all members used here. Most of them were beginners.
And if you didn't understand it after one year of trying you should consider not trying to root your device at all.
You might end in a bricked one.
For the record, I haven't been trying for a year, I tried twice.......(once managed to root but had problems afterwards, once, stopped trying as it became frustrating)
Maybe you should stop acting out your insecurities about yourself in a faceless blog and find peace with who you are

Look, in order to beeing able to help you it would be nice to tell us what rom you have got on your Note.
Starting with ICS (4.0.4) rooting is very simple. Just take a look in the settings what rom you have got and then head over to the PhilZ kernel thread in Original development. There you will find rooted kernels for all stock (Original) ICS or above roms. Dowmload the one matching your rom (choose the .zip version, not .tar). Then boot into stock recovery (press volume up, home and power buttons simultaneously) and flash the kernel. Bang, you got root. Not really difficult. What the hell have you been doing? I guess until today you have not really bothered reading the tutorials and threads. Because everything is explained there and all of us had start too by reading a lot. Good luck.
