Hiya, My name is nick, I know this thread may have been repeated before, but I've noticed all the threads I've seen NEVER answer my questions correctly. So maybe I can get help by posting my own thread...
I have an LG Thrill- I use Simple Mobile.
This is the information on my phone:
Model LG-p925
Android Version 2.3.5
Baseband version L6260_MODEM_SIC_01.1042.00
Kernel 2.6.35.7+
Build Number Thrill seeker 2.1
Software Version LGP925-V20p-FEB-22-2012
I am minorly a n00b to this, I put this rom onto the phone quite a few months ago. I would need directions so i dont mess things up, as a referance.
However, my questions are this...
1) What is the best baseband to use, so that I can get the most functionality out of my device as possible? Using Simple Mobile, I barely crawl with data.
There has been a few RARE instances that I've seen when flashing, that I hit 3g /4g i assume, It said HSPA+ or something instead of an E by the network strength bar. I had flawlessly fast internet for a brief moment, then it switched back to painfully slower than dialup speeds.
2) What is the best rom to use, with this device?
3) what are the steps in general to get a half way decent speed. I'm not really sure where to go, or if I am going to upgrade to thrillseeker 3.1 because the data speeds are really hindering me from using this phone.
Since I'm on a EXTREMELY tight budget I do not have money to upgrade. I plan to modify what I have so I can use it and it works...
At the current stand point, the phone will not even connect to the internet, I setup the APN's for simple mobile, so I'm ready to flash to something different. Where do I go from here?
Im assuimg its unlocked? You going to need to flash a P920 ROM... and flash a baseband that supports tmobile. Go to the lg optimus 3d forum and read up on what you need to do

Could you give me a link? I'm using the P925 phone, the LG Thrill 4g thing.. Yes its unlocked, i do have CWM thats how I got thrill seeker, I have no idea where to start looking because everything I've seen doesn't quite help me... Could you be so kind as to pointing me in the right thread link?
I've done all this before with different phones and stuff, but i need to have a simple explanation specific for my device on the things I need to do... Its been quite a while since I've been into the modding scene.

Hello. There is an updated version of this rom. On xda type in "thrill seeker 3.1 v20p" its by "bdadd34" the newest version is not on the op. I believe its on page 47. Sorry you'll have to look thru the forum. The new zip is called tsfinaltest2. Try it out.

Hi I currently just bought a Samsung Tab from Bell and looking to mod it to the best most stable version which closely supports these functions
- Phone use of course (voice) without routing for warranty purposes
- Camera video conferencing (I use oovoo or is there a better app please suggest)
I read some of the developments and see that modem was an issue etc. I want the most stable so that most services work.
Please suggest if there is something better than Gingerbread. So far I seen the Overcome ROM is popular now.
Please link tutorial page as I do not want to Brick it. Thanks guys!
I just read the Bell modem list and it says no voice.
But I am hearing people being able to use 3G services with Bell bought tabs.
Does this mean all Bell Tabs are not able to get voice?
I just found out that if I want to use the SGT on the Bell network I can still flash other modem firmwares and be successful.
Anyone know which is the best?
it's a matter of preference. some mods keep only the most basic functions while others are for OC/UV geeks.. read around, especially in the development section. If you plan to mod your tab anyway, the best advice I can give you is to READ A LOT! And when you're done reading, READ AGAIN!

It's funny you said that because thats all I been doing.
I just need a pick me up jump start on what I should start with.
IM THNKING
First of all things ROute it first...
-then flash the Gingerbread with Overcome
-then flash the modem with the one that works for all GSM except TMobile.
Will this achieve
-voice calls with the phone APP?
-Bell HSPA 3G data?
-Video font facing camera for chat?
All the other ROMS I will read on for tweakability but for now I am looking to just achieve the above. Did I miss anything in between?

Another lazy f*ck, read, hunt for your food, don't wait for dad to bring everything to the table.
i would recomend your for maximum stability use the stock rom, and be happy, you'll find out soon or later then no rom is worth install it, there will always be issues to turn your hair white.

I guess u wont be thanking this guy
As long as you dont have protected boot loaders and dont flash roms that do - should be alrite to try the different roms + then flash different kernels over them if u want.
Also first make a roto backup of your stock setup.
cheers
relax guys take deep breath , and chill . to the OP , the best to start with and to stick with is overcome gingerbread and specially with their new kernel is freaking awesome for the battery life

I agree on the chilling part.
But, I disagree on the overcome gold release. Compared to the RC1 release with the stock kernel, I would have to say that the Gold release with the new overcome kernel is draining more battery. Lots of people have reported bugs and lags while on the latest Overcome release, with the new custom kernel, compared to the RC1 release.
So, for now, I would suggest that you try the Overcome RC1 ROM without the custom kernel. I'm certain that these problems will be fixed in the future releases of Overcome. But for now the RC1 release is more stable in general than the latest, IMHO.

I can make some suggestions as i'm using a bell galaxy tab.
Flashing any Gsm rom will give you the voice capability. Just make sure you flash a modem as well. I am using JPZ and have no problem with making voice calls.
I definitely would suggest using overcome's rom as that is what i am using. Be sure to follow the instructions to the letter!!!!
You can get the bell hspa 3g data easily on any rom. if you sub to a bell plan, i would suggest the tablet flex plan where you can share your data with your smartphone (presuming you have one).
I just installed the overcome gold and have tried using gtalk with video. It lags for me but it does work. I dont know with the other video talk programs like oovoo.
I was on overcome 1.47 and loved that rom. Fast, stable and easy to use.
This rom is a little laggy and i was surprised that i got 28 hours on the battery after flashing. Might be a little different today but it all depends on the usage too.
Good luck and hope you enjoy the tab. I sure do. Flashing just increases my enjoyment of the tab.

I will try and see how it is. Your sig shows what you are using should I try that one or the one suggested not the Gold One because you said it lags.

Hey guys! Was wondering what it would take to port an O3D ROM? Has anyone tried just flashing an O3D ROM on their thrill yet? Or even fastboot flashing just the system.img so as to leave the kernel alone?
You can flash any of the roms just wont get the 4g speeds.
Sent from my LG-P925 using xda premium
How do you lose 4G speeds (not sure what you mean by that either... are you saying you only lose access to the HSPA+ network, but keep you access to the HSPA network?)... anyways, how do you lose 4G speeds if these ROMs only update the system, and are not touching the kernel or radio rom? I could see some build prop differences, but wouldn't we just need to change the build prop to the Thrills?
So wait, everything works except the 4G Speeds?
They do change your kernal check out the thriller change log it says he made it so that we can flash back from o3d roms and get our stock kernal back

The P920 and the P925 have deferent Baseband radio versions, that's why the 4G doesn't work. If someone could take the radio out of the Thrill and make it in to a flashable zip that problem would be solved I'm sure we will see that once GB is released.

Has anyone tried flashing the stock Thrill kernel over top an O3D ROM? (I am going to try it now myself... well actually I repackaged an O3D with the Thrill kernel).
And what do you mean by you lose 4G? Do you keep 3G (HSPA) and just can't use 4G protocol (HSPA+)? Or do you lose HSPA all together?

All the Roms we have so far with the exception of a couple just modify the /system folder. The radio is seperate from that. What we need is a kernel. Otherwise all these roms are pretty much going to wind up the same but with different themes. That's the reason I don't want to put my Rom out til I can get a bootable kernel put together. Its pretty close to just being Thriller with an HTC sense theme at this point. The differences in the rom itself I don't think warrant a seperate release at this time.

That was my basic view point with any ROMs I made in the past... I wasn't doing anything unique or special, just making it the way I wanted in terms of apps, kernel, etc... so it was one package I flashed instead of 3 or 4.
Looking around, I don't see a lot of people working on the Thrill and was hoping I could get this figured out... I tried just taking the build.prop, ril's, kernel, and .ko's from the thrill and tossing them on a O3D build, but still didn't make a difference for the HSPA+... it makes me suspect there is something I am overlooking (which is very possible, never ported anything, even such a simple port, and I am unaware of any other standard system files that control radio functionality, rest is with the kernel and baseband itself, but both phones have the same baseband version best I can see, so likely kernel, but I am using the thrill kernel!). But at the same time, it is odd to me since I am used to other devices (HTC G2 for example) where a single ROM works on both the G2 and Desire Z...

The only difference in baseband is that the O3D doesn't support the 850 band. There may be a lib in the o3d roms that's not allowing us to use 4g that needs to be replaced from a Thrill rom. I haven't bothered snooping around yet though.

Yeah, thats what I was trying to drill down was which file was causing it, but I have replaced every file I am aware of in both the lib and bin to no avail, along with the kernel and its corresponding .ko files.
If I go the other way, though, no problem. I can take the framework and apps from an O3D ROM, drop them in a Thrill ROM, and good to go. So there is something hiding that controls which frequencies are used, question is what and where? If you have any idea what file would control that, I can search and test it for you.
So guys will everything work except the 4G speeds?

Yes, everything works just fine, just no "4G" speeds, regular 3G only (which for me I get essentially the same speeds, except on full bars I am a little slower... talking 6Mbps peak instead of 8Mbps peak).

I am using Thriller, which is a Thrill ROM. I tried Thiaz's and Kings, both were nice... but I prefer the Thriller theme, and the special add on's that those O3D ROMs have we can do manually, like the superchargerv6 script and build.prop tweaks. Sure, we don't have any kernels (yet, they are coming) but modded kernels are not a huge deal without overclocking/undervolting... there are some other tweaks that can be made, help with battery life a little bit and performance a bit, but I am pulling 3000 quadrant scores with superchargerv6 and build.prop tweaks on Thriller, plenty good enough IMHO for speed, just want a little better battery life.
So I can flash a O3D kernel on top of a Thrill ROM, and keep my "4G"... looks like the issue is isolated to the system...
this may be a stupid question, but I've ran into this before. If you flash an o3d ROM and lose your 4G, can you flash back to a thrill ROM and get your 4G back? I've had previous phones that once you changed your radio, sometimes you couldn't get it back.

How to port GB
Does anyone know the steps to make the O3D leaked GB rom work for the Thrill? If there are any experienced devs out there, that maybe dont have the thrill to work with anymore (bc most switched to the SGS2), could give me a walkthrough or an idea of where to start that would be great! I have a machine running ubuntu, an 06 macbook pro w/ OS X Snow Leopard, and an hp running W7 and the Dev release of W8 (dual boot). I have never cooked any ROM before so i dont know what exactly i would need but i am sure i can find that info somewhere on XDA... but, the more detailed any help or ideas, the better!

It's running...
First backup/write down your apn & mms settings, there are lots of info here on the forums to do this, or an app like this: http://android.riteshsahu.com/apps/apn-backup-restore.
Do a full nandroid backup to your sd card to be safe.
Follow the instructions on this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1331814 to get the o3d rom running on the thrill, it's a fairly long process, but not too bad.
Replace your APN and MMS settings, 4g disabled, everything else is mostly working it seems, though my wifi is a bit wonky so far.
OOOOR
Wait for a dev to build a solid custom rom!
Good luck!
Do you guys think this'll resolve wifi reception issues? I've been tolerating this crappy phone for awhile thinking GB will solve the battery issues but in the past few weeks I've been doing some business travel to Boston, Dallas and LA the GPS has been completely inadequate on all three trips. It would take up to 20 minutes to get initial GPS signal and then even when it does have GPS it would go in and out of GPS reception every minute or two. I'm so fed up with this thing. Yes, I read the 'GPS fix' thread and had already implemented the 'fix' but it's not any better.
I bought it at Costco, therefore, I'm thinking Atrix2 since the Galaxy S2 is a huge price diff. If I had the option, I'd trade it in for iPhone4S.
GPS has been working well on quite a few users phones, and I can personally attest to the the same. I also haven't had any battery issues with the phone at all. It might be a software issue or hardware, but you might want to try exchaning it for another to isolate it. For me, it has been a great phone so far, and I expect a great GB rom to only solidify this.
My wifi and gps work fantastic... you might have a dud... if its within your month swap it out... it sounds like 25% of these phones have bad bugs...
Seriously this is one of my favorite phones of all time... wouldnt say that if i had those troubles...

Back to the topic of getting the leaked gingerbread rom running on the thrill.... has anyone else tried the instructions I posted? Would like to hear others results especially concerning wifi...
I might try it later tonight or tommorow... trying to write a research paper on precambrian evolution at the moment though.
i'll try it out and post my results hopefully by sunday though...
Its not looking good for the leaked gb running on Thrill. The rom itself will run but Apparently LG changed the baseband for gingerbread. You can install the o3d baseband and you will probablly be able to call/text. But you wont be able to use data. I NEED my data connection for sending emails out in the field so that's a big no-go for me.

how do you I unroot and get gingerbread?
As my sig shows, I'm successfully flashed on the Rogers v20c and I just have to commend it. It is the first stock ROM that is speedy out the box. Idk what it is with this rom, but my internet speeds are seriously WAY better with this rom. I'm in NYC, so you would expect awesome speeds here is hspa + sadly though, through various phone I have gone through (HTC tilt, tilt2, iPhone 3, 3gs, 4, xperia x10, dell streak, captivate, infuse, HTC aria) these inlcude phones my wife had as well. But point is, the guest and best speed ibwould get was surprisingly from my trust xperia where I would get between 3-4 Mbps down, 1-1.5 up. With this rom, I'm getting 6-8Mbps down and 1.5-2 up. This is happening constantly. In the Bronx, Brooklyn and even overly crowded Manhattan, which is where I experienced my lowest in the low 4's. I'm just amazed. Now I'm really gonna get into lestats kitchen and optimize other things and see how it works out but this rom does not need much IMO. I've used it for 3 days now. Battery has been better I guess. I'm used to having to charge my phone every night. But I do notice under heavy usage it withstands the load. My phone Jan my mp3 player for my morning commute to work and home on public transportation and I use stereo Nokia Bluetooth headset.
Sorry for long post...enough said I think.?

You dont have to unroot anything.
v20c is the firmware update release by rogers canada. (its the Gingerbread update) the first GB update with a near by baseband.

Well. Frankly that's a question everyone asks at some point. I did it a few times myself. Also why your not getting a flood of replies. There is no correct answer here. The rom you choose should be based on some criteria. My personal criteria is as follows.
1. Battery life: The rom should never suck the battery dry. Keep in mind its dependant in you following the directions on the rom and how you use your phone. I like to see atleast a full day of stock battery life with moderate use.
2. Stability: Tricky to gage. Must follow the Dev's directions to the letter. Test apps in batches and make sure its not the app causing the issue before passing judgment. Also seek help from the Dev.
3. Speed: Not to important as long as it isn't slower than stock and won't mess with #s 1 and 2.
4. Communication : Wifi, bluetooth, and network signal are paramount for me. My thrill replaced my netbook for al my needs. All this must work flawlessly. Keep in mind there is work to be done on your part. Setting APNs and so on. All listed in most Dev's install instructions.
5. Basband: is it comparable with yours? Do you know what you have? Do you know what you need? Read the rom's requirements carefully.
6. Support: as it turns out Dev support can make or break a rom. Roms can be very needy and time consuming. A Dev takes on a huge burden making then offering support for there rom. Its crucial you become involved to help the Dev out so he can spend more time manufacturing awesome for you. If a Dev has ditched a rom understand you venture in to nomans land.
Seeing as we have no clue what your needs are and what you want in a rom. I suggest you pop over in the Development forum and snoop around. Personally The Dark Lestats Kitchen Rom has more than fit me needs. The tutorials he has made taught me everything I needed to know about how to pull the pants of my LG Thrill and have some fun.
Right then thanks sorry I'm not really a noob just having a little trouble getting acclimated a also my requirements are the same but I must have speed and battery is a must

My apologies. I reread that and it did come across assuming you where new lol my bad.
As far as I'm aware most of the Ginger roms have full features ie: 4G and 3D. I did notice that the baseband plays a big part in how your phone interacts between hardware and rom. Just speculation but seems to be the case.
Last Froyo rom I used was the Doomed froyo. Got all the phone features and exceeded my requirements. For ginger rom I did not try cynogen but I went threw 3 others. Lestats Kitchen rom was the only one I could use to meet and exceed my requirements. Its flexible enough you can drop another kernal that is overclocked. I did notice its not the best on V20P baseband (thanks AT&T bleh) . After I loaded the V21D baseband and APNs my phone suddenly had great battery 2 days moderate use, Bluetooth worked stable and I have not had a single ghost call.
I had to try it a few times though. First reload didn't go well cause I didn't follow the directions. After I followed the each "how to" step by step my phone was cured.
In being fare I would note that the issues were fixed after I made the above changes. I haven't tried the previous roms after the change. Thays why I didn't name them. I can't say they work well or not without proper comparison. I would suggest paying attention to the bugs that appear in multiple roms you try. Might just be the baseband and not the rom.
Lestats it the best there are so many options to go with thrill seeker I think was ditched and Acura team is good
