[Q] Xperia z or acro s - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

From all the stuff I have read from both Xperia Acro S and Xperia Z, I have but one question remaining. Will the current specs of the Acro S be sufficient for the technology 2-3 years from now? Is the Xperia Z a good investment? Obviously, xperia v is out of the picture.
I ask these questions for the reason that I intend to purchase a new phone and plan to keep it till God-knows-when. Your expertise and experiences will be highly appreciated.
to the mods,if this is the place to post this thread, I apologize.

I actually own both (went from Acro S to Z) and here is what I found:
Speed:
I decided to upgrade from Acro S for a quicker running unit and I did notice a huge difference in how smooth things will run now... browsing through photos, loading time of thumbnails was very quick.
Display:
I really did not notice much difference in quality of display, just a much bigger screen
Connection Speed:
Thou I can't get the LTE to work in my location, I'm still getting much quicker speeds compared to the Acro S
Interface:
I use an aftermarket launcher on mine, so not much I can share about that other then some of the "setting's button" location has moved and around and will take some getting used to
Battery:
Acro S was WAY better compared to the Z (from my experience so far, same amount of apps and stuff running compared to my Acro S)
General:
The Acro S was a comfortable size, and the Z is really big for my taste, but of course, I sucked it up and traded size for speed.
The Z has a much tougher screen (glass/plastic/ what ever it's made of) compared to the Acro S, my Acro S had light scratches (after the 1st week) on the center where I use my thumb to scroll up and down a lot.. screen protector is a must.

Opinions Needed URGENTLY Xperia Ion or Xperia V

Xperia V or Xperia Ion? I actually wanted the Xperia T, but in Singapore, they are not planning to sell the Xperia T. I currently hold the Xperia U. But was forced to change it as the screen was too small. Xperia Ion is oddly more expensive then the V, but I really want the screen estate. I'm also eyeing on the Optimum X4 but for some reason, I don't trust LG. The Optimum is a quad core and is way cheaper then the both, and have a IPS 4.7" screen. Advice please.

Definitely go for the V, the CPU power alone can make you never come back to the old Xperia S or Ion. And stay away from LG.

I do not have a V yet, but I have played with VL. I was amazed at the screen, it is the best I have ever seen, at some point, I thought it was printed! Anyway, the buttons on the ion is never sensitive enough, I would prefer onscreen buttons any day. 4G is a must in singapore, and think of the speed boast is a plus.
Just a sidenote, T does not fare well, even against the Ion. Ion does, in fact, is slightly better than T, due to the poor colour reproduction of the screen and the akward position of the buttons.
Here are my preferences.
V > TX > SGS3 > Ion > S> T > U
But Ion have a really beautiful screen. And large one too. The reason why im changing from U is because the screen is too small.
{reply xperia t/v}

Go for Xperia V although ion screen bigger...It's specs much better than Xperia ion.
Now already available in Singapore...And also it is dust and water proof...
this is from my perspective:
I wouldn't choose either. If you can hold it up till next year then do it.
The V, yes it has better specs and features than the ION, but its not all that great IMHO. The "flaps" is damn annoying, Ive owned Xperia S before and i hated it every single day. On top of that, 4.3 inch screen with virtual buttons? Sorry Im not a huge fan of getting phones with less than 4.5 inch screens. I am currently using Xperia TL, and damn with those virtual buttons it makes my screen look smaller than it should be.
The ION, specs are too outdated and on top of that who knows if it will get the updates after jelly bean. Better to be on the safe side. And yes, it does have a better screen than Xperia T. Both ION and Xperia T feels damn sturdy. Like rock solid, unlike the SG3.
Just saying~
PS: dont get the Optimus G, its horrible and yes the specs are the best in the market right now, but its LG. They have a long history of bad update procedures and stuff (built quality/software)??. In addition, they just ditches their flagship phones after 3 months or something. :/

Thanks for your advice. I have a telecom voucher that ends very soon, two days from now, in fact. The flaps are to protect the Xperia V from nature though have no idea why the Xperia S have it. I guess I will go for the Xperia V. It's cheaper (S$40) and it's more future prove, plus LTE. And it's the bond phone haha.
Xperia v vs ion
hi bro, hopefully u have not bought the xperia v yet, i went to Singtel yesterday and tested the Xperia V with my ion.
1. The screen on the ion beats the Xperia V so much. Contrast so much better and deeper blacks on the Ion.
2. I have installed the Cybershot V4 and i compared the camera on both phones. Superior Auto on V and HDR auto on Ion, the xperia v's 13mp camera gave me a pic of 2.2mb photo size and the Ion 12Mp camera gave me a 2.95mb photo size . (Same Photo)
3. Yea, the ions lags slightly on CPU speed, but its very Minor.
3a. Yea, the onscreen buttons may seem not so responsive on the ion, but after all the firmware updates, all the touch screen Mods, its almost Perfect.
4. After looking at the outlook of the Xperia V, i found out that i prefer my Ion looks(Aluminium back) , although its slightly thicker. In fact i feel that Xperia Arc looks better then the V.
5. The screen is larger then the V.
6. Internal Storage is more then the V.

It's too late
I choose the V. Thanks for your advice anyways. I agree with you that ion is one of the best HD screen Sony ever made. I went to the Xperia Store in j8 and there's a screen tearing lag in the ion. But the V is cheaper and more future prove.

[Q] Xperia T, TX or V?

I've been using the Xperia Ray for almost a year now, and before that I had a Mini Pro. I upgraded to the Ray because the Mini Pro's screen was too small and too low-res, and now I'm looking to upgrade from the Ray because I find I need more internal storage and more power. I don't play games or anything, but I frequently use apps like Instagram, Flickr, Flipboard, Dolphin Browser etc., and often my Ray breaks down when there's more data incoming that it can handle. Also, the internal memory is a joke. I do however love the high-ppi screen and the form factor.
Originally I didn't want to go larger than 4" with my next handset, but it seems you'll only get a decent screen when going 4.3" or bigger. Also, I'd like to stay with Sony as I just love their design and am so used to their UI (despite using Go Launcher on top of it.)
So, I narrowed it down to the late 2012 models T, TX and V. The Z is definitely too large for me, and the other current Xperia models don't do it specs-wise. Each of the three has something going for it, and for the life of me I can't decide which one to get. So if you can help me by pushing me in one or another direction, I'd greatly appreciate it
So here's my list of pros and cons for each handset. They all have 720 HD displays, which is great. I don't want to go with less resolution (qHD doesn't do it, it's not a significant step up from the Ray's 854x480 display.) They all feature the gorgeous Arc design which I love. However, there are some differences.
Xperia T
Pros:
- Moderate price, especially when bought used. (I live in Germany, btw.) Can be had from ~ € 250.
- By far the largest battery of the bunch, @ 1850 mAh. (I am used to charging once a day, though, and typically my phone will last well beyond the end of the day.)
Cons:
- No exchangeable battery.
- Side flap that covers microSIM and microSD slots could eventually break and get lost.
- 4.55" is a bit large for my taste. I held it and found it tough to operate with one hand.
- Screen reportedly not very good (as compared to other models).
- Awkward button layout.
Xperia TX
Pros:
- Slightly silmmer profile than the T, which makes it look a lot nicer.
- Better button layout.
- Reportedly the best screen of the bunch.
- Placement of the screen makes it look more balanced (T has it more to the top).
- Xperia logo lights up (okay, this is a gimmick, but I love it )
- Exchangeable battery.
- Back cover offers better protection for microSIM and microSD.
Cons:
- Only 1750 mAh battery, but the difference to the T isn't that big.
- Higher price as it cannot be bought used over here. ~ € 350 upwards.
- Slightly wider and larger than the T, plus the 4.55" screen which I find just a tad too large.
Xperia V
Pros:
- Smaller than both the T and TX due to the 4.3" screen, so this could be closer to my preferred size.
- IP55/57 water and dust proof. This phone could last years.
- Offers LTE, should I ever upgrade my carrier or my contract.
Cons:
- Don't like the design of the front as much as that of the TX, especially the lack of Xperia logo at the bottom.
- Pretty steep price at least at the moment. Lowest online price somewhere around € 400. May drop once used units get on the market.
- Only 8 GB of internal memory, although that would probably suffice as I'll be using it with a 32 GB SD card anyway.
So there ya have it. All three have their pros and cons. Currently, my favourite is the TX, but that's mainly because I think it looks the best, and because it is said to have the best screen. The V however is a serious option due to its water- and dustproofing and the fact that it offers LTE. Doesn't look as nice as the TX though. The T ranks last on my list, mainly because the battery cannot be replaced, and because I think it looks bulky and unbalanced. The price however is ideal.
You see my dilemma? If I had money in spades, I'd probably get both the TX and V, try each for a while and then decide which one to keep. But as it is, I have to really justify shelling out that much money (even € 250 I consider a lot to spend for a phone.) While I am absolutely in love with the TX's looks, I'm debating whether the T may not be the more rational choice, or if I shouldn't get the V which has LTE and is water- and dust-proof when I'm spending that much money.
What would you do in my place? Which one should I get? Also, those of you who own any of the three, what are your experiences? Do you love yours, or would you rather have one of the other two models?
Thanks a bunch in advance for your help!
P.S.: Root-ability is also important. Are there any differences between the three devices in that regard?
Same dilemma that I had for about 2 weeks. Previous phones included arc s and Xperia s. I was stuck between V and Tx, t was definitely out of the picture, weird design and button layout. Look is very important to me.
Knocked down to v or tx, went with tx because it supported bands for us, if v had supported bands in the US, would have gotten that instead. Love the size of the v, just perfect.

Thanks for your reply!
I just handled the T once more, and 4.6" is definitely too large for me to operate comfortably with one hand.
So, since TX and V are the same price for me, and V is 4.3" plus better specs, it's probably going to be that one.
ive been agonizing over the same dilemma for 2 days. i live in USA, so none are available for me (besides for TL - yech!!)
V looks the best but is impossible to get hold of for good price. i ended up buying the T (import from ireland!) then read about the crappy screen and bought the TX also. waiting for both to arrive so i can make my own decision. will update with my opinion when i test them both out.
i stock between v & tx....i want better camera & better display?which one is good for me?
TX has better front camera and bigger screen display..
I bought a Xperia V a couple days ago- really like it. Mugen Power makes a 3600 mah battery for the V, shipping at the end of march- I plan to pick one up!

That's terrific! Thanks for the info!
I handled a V yesterday, albeit only a dummy. But the size is perfect for me, and I really like its look and feel.
I'd still like to handle a working unit first, but I'm pretty much sold already.
Uh-oh. Now the new Xperia SP got me thinking ... Same price, no sealing but better hardware and considerably larger battery. What do you guys think about V vs. SP?

Maybe.. but there is a small price you have to pay: delayed firmware updates.
I think the SP would be a better choice. Its a much newer device with many more features. (although lacking a few things)
I am also considering Xperia V or Xperia SP, but also Acro S is still in the pipe, for a much better price. Currently specs are best on V for me (size matters a lot), as it has a good screen, dimensions, fast processor, replacable battery...just missing camera button and bigger internal memory...besides a lot of SoD with V are making me nervous...
Unfortunately there is no device that has all those nice Sony features all together:
size of V (width of 65mm is also not very small!)
IP57 - water/dust proof
glove mode
wet finger tracking
sensor-on-lens & Bravia Engine
nice LED stripe (like in SP!)
>2300mAh replacable battery
Dual Core Krait (like V/SP, better SP)
8MP Exmor RS image sensor
dedicated camera button and current power button
I am just wondering when the first real outdoor device will come (real powerfull battery, transflective display, barometer etc)

Don't go for the Acro S. It's an old device. Never go for an old device no matter how worth the money it is because you will be frustrated with updates. I am pretty sure the Acro S received its last/one-before-the-last update. (because Sony support period is a little short). Go for the V then.
As for a real outdoor device, I doubt Sony would come up with something like that because the general public would not really care for such features.
I guess my decision will depend on which device will be cheaper once the SP is available.
I prefer the V for styling, screen size and sealing, but the SP for hardware and battery.
Oh, and that LED strip ... so damn sexy ...
Just got my T. for all the complaints about TX being nicer...... the T is a gorgeous phone, i actually like its slighter thicker build, gives it a better feel in the hand. the screen sucks though. very washed out. I guess you cant have everything.......
Ha! Good thing I waited a little longer and didn't pull the trigger on the V so quickly! Found a practically unused one with almost full 24 months German warranty on the bay, for the same price as the lowest online price for a new one with 12 months UK warranty. So happy! Can't wait for it to arrive. Also, since it was bought in Germany, chances are it will have the good display. Will report back once I received it.

Here's what my suggestion is. Go for the Z to get waterproof. The flaps on the V don't last long. Go for the Xperia V for waterproof and size. However keep in mind that the V flaps aren't as strong as Z. Xperia SP is definitely the best to go if you're looking for good performance + better portability. Overall, all these devices are great. It depends on what you are using it for. Also don't get the Acro S. Never buy a phone that is old. You'll miss out many updates.
The XperiaT is a good choice to buy? If you wouldnt have that phone now would you buy it again? Are you happy with it?
Just go for Xperia T and that's it.

[Q] Still worth it?

So, I'm looking for an upgrade to my ages old Xperia Ray.
With Xperia Z2 now out, and Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z1 compact priced less than $50 higher than the Xperia Z. Is it still a good grab?
I've been in this dilemma since quite a couple of days now.. I saw the Z in a store and found it the best size. I know Z1 might feel a little awkward coming from a 3.3 Xperia Ray(its bigger than Z), and I just don't like the bezels on Xperia Z1 Compact. My other options are HTC One and LG G2. But I don't trust LG as a brand.
So back to the point, is Xperia Z still a good buy over the Z1 and Z1 compact? and why?

Xperia z is agood phone but the only problem is it's around an year old now, sony said we will get 4.4 update but i don't think we will get any ore after that , Z1 and z1 compact being newer, will surely be updated for a long time, and as they have s800 soc so they are more future proof
Bdw,go in for LG g2 if you dont like the z1 or z1 compact as that is a great phone, and is also future proof as it has the same specs as nexus 5
pick htc on lg. if i were to pick, i'd take lg because I've never had an lg phone and specs are awesome.
sony? i think i'll never buy it again. throwing out 5 different flagship phones in 1 year, customer support sucked, warranty problems sucked, display was dissapointment,... ui experience however was great. other bugs may annoy you.

not really better than Z.
The best would be lg g2
Gesendet von meinem Nexus 5 mit Tapatalk
Depends what you need from a phone. Contrary to what lots of people say, the screen as compared directly to the Z1 is barely different with properly adjusted white balance and saturation. The camera is excellent but the battery life could be better. I like that with a 5 inch screen it's still smaller then the Z1, the Z1 feels much more slippery because while the edges are made from aluminium, the bezel of the front and back panels is surrounded by a super slick plastic rather then the soft touch finish of the Z. I'd still go for something like a Z1 Compact, Z2 if you really want top end specs and a much bigger battery.
Lg have really gotten their **** together with the G2.
people have reported excellent performance with excellent battery life.
it also got 4.4.2 kitkat before the xperia z1...which still hasnt gotten it yet.
and despite it having a 5.2inch screen, it honestly doesnt feel that big.
I would not suggest you to go with the Z1 Compact if you do not like it's size and bezel.
Whether to go with Xperia Z or Z1 will depend on a few factors:-
1. Snapdragon 800 vs S4 Pro - Do you need or want better performance and battery life?
2. 3000 mAh vs 2300 mAh - Do you want better battery life?
3. 170g vs 146g - Are you alright with the Z1 being heavier?
Personally I prefer the bezel size of the Z as Z1 has thicker bezel but it all comes down to personal preference.
Based on the specifications alone, Z1 will be the winner if the price of both phones are very close.

Help on Deciding.

Hey guys, i have quite allot of android phones and i have tried to stay away from Sony since they lock their boot loaders and it looked like it was hard to develop anything i haven't gotten one (the old ui was FUGLY as well). i own a T989 Galaxy s2 (in fact i own three of them!) as my Main for right now and its getting pretty old (cpu and gpu are old and Games are not as well handled as they used to) i have been thinking of getting a new phone and that phone i have come down to is either a Samsung Galaxy mega 6.3 or a Xperia Z or Xperia SP, i have never payed attention to the Xperia line and they have a pretty good thing going for now, i think i might have to move them to my list of jobs i might take up . everything about the Xperia Z looks pretty great, everything beats out my s2. thought im worried that i have heard that xperias TFT Screens have TERRIBLE veiwing angles, i dont honestly know if i care about that but do any of you get disappointed by this? and do you think it would be the same on the Xperia SP? if so please state what you dont like about the Xperia Z, your Help is appreciated .

i see that the Xperia Z1 compact only has a 4.3" screen. my s2 has a 4.5" and i would like something bigger or equal to that. i see that the Xperia Z2 Compact will have a bigger screen but when it comes out is unknown. im sure i wouldn't mind the poor viewing angles, but the real question is would i be fine with the SP or do i need a bigger screen (Xperia ZL) for $100 more?
Im viewing my phone head on and don't really want people watching my screen so the 'terrible' viewing angles don't mean much to me. When I show people videos on my phone no one has complained saying they cannot see. Im an ex Z user and current Z1 user. Id go for the Z out of your choices.

S2 have the same 4.3" like Z1 Compact
While Z2 Compact would probably be around 4.6"
Sony won't support SP much as it is not Z Series,so i still suggest you to go for bigger screen of Xperia Z / ZL
Z2 is the best choice

If you are looking at the Z2, i personally suggest looking at the newer HTC One M8 and S5.
Sony has JUST begun to catch up with competition, an example is they finally use IPS displays that don't give washed out colours.
Another thing that is an issue as of right now is, their software updates arrive late and with serious bugs, just take a look in the Z Ultra, Z1, Z1 Compact sections about their 4.4 update.
Also, the Z2 has quite large bezels.
Another thing to keep in mind is, when the next flagship Sony comes out soon, Sony will shift most their focus to that device, resulting in the Z2 having a shorter life as a top priority device compared to other companies devices.
(Sony has a 6 month flagship rotation, other companies usually have a one year flagship rotation)
Sony has begun to improve slowly, but to me, Sony is still a risky choice if you are looking for a flagship grade device and support.
All this is just my personal opinion

S2 have the same 4.3" like Z1 Compact
While Z2 Compact would probably be around 4.6"
Sony won't support SP much as it is not Z Series,so i still suggest you to go for bigger screen of Xperia Z / ZL

How much do you want to spent? The XZ is a good phone, but if you're happy with your S3 there's no need to upgrade...
Also the XZ has become old.... if you're able to spend more, take the XZ2
The benchmarks say that Z is definetely faster and it is.
I had both
And personally i would say i like the XperiaZ a lot better than the SGS3.
The overall-look and feel is just amazing, the SGS3 in comparence felt cheap, and i really really hated the blue-ish screen of the SGS3,
although overall it had better viewing angles than the XperiaZ.
Camera: In dark conditions be it in video or picture-mode, the SGS3 surpasses the XperiaZ, in daylight the Camera of the Xperia-Z is better, except for Macro-Shots, those are better on the SGS3 too.
Sound: The sound that the microphone of the XperiaZ records (videos, telephone) is really crystal-clear compared to the SGS3 one.
The Headset/In-Ears are better on the Sony as usual, but even with other/better (Sennheiser/Audiotechnica/AKG)-Headphones the sound out of the Headphone-Jack of the XperiaZ is better than that of the SGS3
The Buildin-Speakers therefore are better/louder on the SGS3.
If you should purchase the XperiaZ is really up to you, in my location they are actually really cheap to get, so probably yea.
Although the Xperia Z1 Compact might be a better upgrade.
The Z1-Compact has a lot better Battery-Life a better processor and would be overall (in my opinion) the best upgrade, its not as expensive as the Z1/Z2 but on the other hand has superior hardware and battery-life compared to the XperiaZ.
But its really your decision, i can't make a decision for you
Hope it helped.
as a almost two month user of xperia z I can say one think: Buy it if you gonna use it as a nice looking phone(call, sms, social). For anything else forget about z, why? because of battery. so what if its fast? so what if it can run any game or app, battery on z is just most hilarious joke i've seen for past few years of my phones.
I love my xperia z, its look amazing, its durable, screen is very good and its fast but when you unplug it from charger at 7:00 you gonna need it after... 5h of typical use(LTE internet, NFC, camera). Better buy z1 compact or z2... sad but true, and looking at android 4.4 and how it thread batteries on others phones(not only sony) I think that 4.4 update for z gonna be major flop for battery...
Try Xperia z and other varians. Its best smartphone in the world (of course for me)
sorry for bad english. i hope you understand what i mean..
