I am looking for some help with Voice Dialer for my Galaxy Mini. I have installed the custom rom "[28/01/2013][ROM][CM 10.1][V 5] TouchWiz 5" by A_U. Prior to this I was running the official CM7 for the Galaxy mini. The problem I have is that I can no longer voice dial with my Blue Ant S4, because Voice Search doesn't appear to be functional. I can see that it is installed, and the play store also says that it is installed along with Google Search. Google Search is definitely installed but I can't find any way to utilize Voice Search or Voice Dialer. I have also done extensive searching, via google as well as in the forums here and have not found a way to uninstall and re-install Voice Search. I figure that since it is integrated into the Rom that uninstalling could be problematic, but I am not savvy enough to know for sure. I also know that Voice Dialer from earlier versions of Android has been replaced with Google Now which also doesn't appear to be working on my device. Can anyone help me out with this? Is it possible that I have a bad install?

Well that wasn't very helpful. As I said in my OP, I searched extensively and couldn't find an answer to this issue, nor did anything seem related. There are so many vaiations of these Roms for so many different devices that narrowing the problem down for a novice user like me is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. After searching for an answer for a couple of days straight, I figured posting a question in the SGM forum might be the best way to get any sort of help. It is responses like the one above that drive people away from forums like this.

Thank you arjunraina7 -
Does this mean that any sort of offline voice recognition isn't supported? What I would like to find out is if there is any way that I am going to be able to use my BT device to make completely hands free calls as I could in CM 7. The Google Voice Dialer app was the app that made this possible in CM 7, but I can't find that app in the app store, and from the research I have done, it seems that Google has pulled that app and rolled it's capability into Google Now, which also doesn't seem to be functioning on my device.
Bottom line is, in Jelly Bean, which app does voice dialing. will it do that offline, is it possible that it may be incorporated into future versions of the rom, and if not, do you have any suggestions for good apps that can accomplish the same. Thanks in advance.
Try and see if there's voice search name in titanium backup then uninstall it. (it might be com.android.voice.search or something similar)
then proceed to install it from Google Playstore like a normal application.

So far, the ICS based voice search is armv7 only. we have armv6

Anyone in the know care to look at the leaked skype apk to get it to work on the galaxy tab?
Installation currently fails and it seems to only work on HTC phones but there must be a way to get it to work on the tab right?
some guys are looking to modify the leaked apk to be able to use it on other devices, but there is nothing working yet.

When I upgraded to ICS, I (and everyone else) lost the built-in voice dialer in Android 2.3.4. See the Vivid General forum for details on this. I tried Vlingo, and it worked okay most of the time, but it required a lot of steps. So, I tried Cyberon Voice Commander and was pleased with how well it worked and how closely it matched the original voice dialer when connected to my car's audio system via bluetooth. See my post for more details.

There may be other apps that work, so I am not saying this is the only one.

Yes, I saw posts on that. However, because of all the "crash and burn" posts from people trying to install custom ROMs, I think I'm going to wait a while. There is still too much transition right now between GB and ICS, and with S-Off possibly coming "soon."
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

That is due to people not understanding the process of flashing a ROM, kernel, etc. There are video guides, written directions, and people who can help to flash correctly. It is real simple if you read and know what to do.

No issues here, although I have posted a lot to help others who are having trouble! I can understand how with limited knowledge it can be scary to root your phone, flash a rom, etc. but only if you didn't read up on what you are doing and rush through the steps. Before I got this phone I read about the steps and then when I got it felt comfortable and did everything. I know enough now that if something did happen I could get out of the problem without help.
To each his own IMO, if he wants to wait its the choice he's made ... But I do believe that myself , MEGATRON and most of WC'S illegitimate children could update h-boot or flash a new Rom blindfolded or heavily intoxicated lol, its gotten that easy
I've flashed the phone two times, unlocked and rooted. It has become much easier. I frankly don't want to set the phone up again.
Also, with custom ROMs you usually trade one problem for another. They usually aren't perfect.
BTW, thanks megatronisabeast for all your help to others.

I hate to grave dig old topics but this is really bugging me. Again, I have stock ICS so dialed in. I am trying to avoid flashing.
Skyvi has actually come a LONG way towards becoming a Siri-esque app. It just won't wake or activate from a BT headset.
What is everyone lease doing? Flashing custom ROM?

I tried Cyberon Voice Command, but, while I can activate it by bluetooth, I still have to speak directly to the phone. Tried with different bluetooth sets, still the same. Will try VSP.
Thanks.
Hey frustrated voice dialing crew!
Last night I stumbled upon Voice Control by Luka Kama. There's a free version called Voice Control Test.
Its contact recognition is pretty accurate. It can also do voice to text. For me, the downside is it tries to do too much. It is expanding to Siri-like functionality which I find pointless. It also has a LED graphic like Knight Rider's KITT which is retro-wierd.
+1 for the Knight Rider reference

Hi all,
My first post, and as of yesterday my first custom ROM. Despite some sweaty moments it worked fine thanks to the guidance on this forum and some leaps of faith Can't reply to the relevant thread directly since I'm n00b.
Was very happy with this, however one killer issue that's meant I've had to revert to stock is that Google Talk (installed via GApps link with the ROM) crashes to desktop (no FC dialog) when i attempt to use voice or video within it. Skype seems to work fine though. Anyone else experienced this? I haven't seen it previously reported on here which makes me think maybe I didn't clear something properly (I used cwm recovery 5.5.0.4 to wipe cache, factory reset and clear dalvik prior to flash). I tried repeating the entire upgrade twice from scratch but same issue is still apparent.
Thanks for the coolness and hopeful for some help and further development.

Hey.
You're not the only one. I have the same issue with Google Talk. I, like you, thought that I wasn't installing something right. I even went as far as using an outdated gapps package, namely 20120726, to no avail. If you've gotten help with this, please let me know. Otherwise, I have no idea what else to do. I don't want to revert to stock because, quite frankly, its terrible. Also, to anyone else reading this, any help would be appreciated.
Try uninstalling talk after you've flashed the Rom and then reinstalling it. Had a similar problem with Google search.

I'm not familiar with Google talk, is it the same as voice. To uninstall you'll need tibu or something like that.
I did find talk to chat in the play store which maybe the same thing you're talking about

My first ROM as well and facing the same problem with GTalk. Skype & Hangout on Google+ works fine. I was also wondering probably i missed a step.
But this ROM is so awesome don't want to restore. Other problems I am facing is that USB is not getting recognized on tablet and 3G not working. Any of you facing similar problem with 3G and USB?

As far as 3G, my tablet is the WiFi only, so I can't help you there.
With the usb, have you tried turning on the MTP setting? When you connect the tablet, go to settings>storage> and in the upper right hand side of the screen, if you press on the 3 dot things, you are going to see USB computer connection. press that and you will see the option to turn on MTP. I hope this helps.
Thanks for the replies, glad to know I'm not alone with g talk. Finally got stock ics ota but it's terrible! Prime example is Swype keyboard often appears the size of a credit card. Going back to cm as soon as talk fixed also had the USB issue but didn't try the workaround

Supposedly, should go to settings - controls - language and input - text-to-speech (TTS) options - Samsung TTS engine and press configure cog. Then install voice data and download high quality voice female, but it doesn't do anything (in my case just a popup window that says it will download and nothing else happens). Can you please check this on your device also? It might be a software bug

Yup, same here. I want the Google voice, not the HD samsung voice.
I have this problem on my Huawei P6, and from doing reseach I believe it's the TTS. If you look at under language and input, there is no Google-Text-To-Speach engine, but instead just the Samsung one.
I still couldn't find a way to download (or where to download the app for that matter) the Google TTS engine.
I hope some can figure this out, because that Samsung voice is really annoying. The funny thing is, Google Now have the correct voice/sound.

I took a peek on the link provided as far as a work around for this issue/annoyance, and seems like a lot of work.
Anyway, I've found an easier solution. You have to be rooted and have Titanium backup. Not sure if it will for everyone, but it sure works on my phone.
All I did was freeze the Samsung TTS engine, and like a miracle my Google maps now sounds wonderful (it use the Google voice/speech) now.

There is Tiny apps, that you can find on the play store in two flavours: paid and free. ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ragingtools.tinyappslite).
It is a collection of 5 floating small apps: note keeper, drawing app, calculator, voice recorder and music player, that can be opened on top of other running app to have them handy when you are doing something and need to quickly do something else.
You can activate every single tiny app by means of a widget.
I've bought the paid version and used the app for some week before deciding that they were not so much essential to me.
I think they work well and do what they are supposed to do, even though Qslides are probably more refined, from a graphical point of view.
I used them on a 10.1 CM. In the play store there is nothing written about the compatibility with CM 10.2, so if you want to try them out, you'd better start with the "light" unpaid version, first.
