Yea I can't try it unless I go back to a stock or close to stock rom.
Just wondering if any one else had or would try it to see what it's all about.

It looks like it updates your "home personalization" app

There is a great guide here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1416836
Basically you have to be dev unlocked through the HTC website and then flash a custom recovery and then your rom of choice... that's the short version.

Got it, applied it, no big whoop (yet)

Stock ICS, unlocked, rooted, but still S-On. Got the update, I can't see any difference in the Personalization other than the version number.

That is my situation right now. Stock, unlocked and rooted. Good to know before I venture into the ROM flashing world.

Yea, I got it too but the link in the text doesn't even work for me? Sends me to an HTC 404 page.

Try copy/paste the url into browser. Same thing happened to me. I haven't applied the update yet.

ATT cant even send a text properly. There is a period at the end of the sentence that was included in the url that shouldnt be there. Copy and paste the link without the last period. Morons at ATT yet again.

Yeah I got the text too
Sent from my Vivid 4G using Tapatalk 2

Yea if you copy the trailing period delete it in address bar. I thought the same thing about at&t.
But, perhaps the DNS server team personnel were the only ones around to send the message.

I got it but I don't plan to update. It won't be a problem will it?

I don't understand why its not just an apk in the market... its not a critical software update...

Looks like it's just a maintenance update, not a new Android version or anything. Kinda lame.

how to close the "update notice"?

My version is 2.2.1, but recently, always receive the "update notice" in my N1, how to close it ?
Who can help me ?
the update notice says "The first part of two-parts ystem update is ready to install, your device will restart, and you will receive a second update shortly thereafter。"
The easiest way is to just install the update. Is there some reason you not want to install?

Miui for vivid

A MIUI ROM has been released in rootzwiki !!!!!
Issues:
1.Cant switch to lte band.
2.Mediascanner fails to start at first rom flash, to fix this go into your gallery app and hit "browse sdcard" and navigate to your pictures so the mediascanner service can start, after that return to your gallery/music app(menu refresh) now your photos and music should show up.
3.Signal bars are inacurrate.
ROOT
Features:
1.Faux 006 kernel with sweep2unlock.
2.Nova launcher as an optional launcher.
3.Aosp ics keyboard
4.Deleted a few stuff to slim down the rom like htc ebooks and useless apps etc.
5. Root is disabled by default THIS IS HOW MIUI DOES IT, FOR YOUR OWN SECURITY!, you need to re-enabled it by opening any root requiring app.
tethering work around
Ok wifi tether works just installed wifi tether from the google playstore and changed this settings and it will work:
Start Application
Go to Settings
Select Device Type -> Galaxy Nexus CDMA/LTE
Select Change Setup-Method -> netd (master)
Select Enable WiFi-Encryption -> Your Choice
Select Routing Fix
Start Tether and allow Root

im very excited about this rom, but im going to wait until a higher version number and some of the problems have been resolved before i flash, im not set up to back everything up and flash a new rom right now, and im happy atm. and my boyfriend is getting tired of me ignoring him.
i already posted this in the afternoon when I got it from Rafy. I think it was taken down already cuz I dont see it anywhere.
Excited but I'd rather wait until the bugs are sorted, I take it this is SENSE based not AOSP based, like the HTC Sensation/Pyramid MIUI Port?
Excellent news though, I've been missing MIUI, and I don't really use LTE anyway so that's not a real problem for me.

I was going to say, it had too few bugs to be as low as 0.1
Well I took the dive, it doesn't have root, how do I get root on it

Root is managed via "Permissions" app - allows root to be turned on and off, and individual permissions of apps to be blocked/allowed. You'll still need "Hide my Root" from the market or similar if you want to truely hide root from apps that check for rooted roms.
It's great! Where did you get the download?

Reboot your phone. Open up an app that requires root (like titanium backup) and it should ask you if you want to allow root. MIUI "turns off" root by default. This is all outlined in the OP of MIUI over on rootzwiki.

According to RULE (11,3), you can't even post a Rootz link in your signature. Great stuff.
after using this rom or a few days, which required not only signing up to rootzwiki forum but also another forum before I got to the download file, I find this ROM very stable and very quick, and it has excellent battery life (probably due to not having LTE for the most part) but yeah this is now my daily driver, I only wish it was on XDA, I might build on this myself at XDA...

So your phone is on Gingerbread? And you downloaded the official stock ICS update rom?
What is the file name that you downloaded? How big is it?

So she "did" the install on your phone (over the air update?) but the install didn't start yet? I don't think the situation is clear yet. What would you like to do, and what symptoms are getting in your way?

Just do this if you want to ever go back to ics stock
1) Download this ruu: http://dl3.htc.com/application/htc_vivid_att_RUU_3.26.502.56_US.exe I got the download from here http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-vivid-att/software-updates
2) just double click file it downloads when ever you want to go back to stock...it will walk you through the process
Extra info:
-ruu stands for Rom update utility
-it is the official stock ics
-no, your warranty won't be voided by using it...
-it can only be used on windows
-it will delete all your apps and everything (except for stuff on your sd and external sd...like any thing you downloaded from a browser or put on your phone through USB)
-it takes a while...if it gets stuck do not unplug just wait it out
-if your freaking out cause its taking so long just ask in the q&a section for advice

New OTA update?

So I've recently caught wind of yet another update for the holiday. It hasn't come to rogers yet so I don't have to worry about the update for now but I would like to be prepared when and if it comes. Is it safe to update with root and unlocked bootloader? would I need to revert back to stock or just use OTA Rootkeeer. Also I've deleted and frozen some system apps and flashed hq camera which replaced the original camera and installed dsp manager.
Sent from my HTC Raider on the Rogers Wireless Network
No need to. IF there ever is a new update, and if that update has any benefits (sense 4/Jelly bean) a dev will most likely build it into their rom. Possibly even package it up to flash it in cwm, so you don't have to s-on and all that jazz. But, so far evidence proves we'll most likely never see an update.
Thanks for the quick response. I always like to know things ahead of time

Android 4.3 on 2012 nexus 7

Hello,
I have a 2012 nexus seven, do android 4.3 will work on it using normal android system upgrade from settings? Because it says that there isn't any update available.
And can I root the device normally afterwards?
And my data will be saved?

Over the air updates often take time to roll out. Give it time and the update will come.
Of course, you can root and flash a custom ROM based on 4.3, but unless you already have an unlocked bootloader, you will lose your data.

You'll lose root, but so long as you made no changes to the preinstalled /system portion of the ROM, the OTA should run without killing any of your data.

This is why it pays to have an unlocked bootloader.

Finally got the update this evening! Had a notification to say it'd downloaded and was ready to install, but I was in the middle of fixing a Play Store issue which meant removing and reinstating my Google account...
Of course, this meant that the notification disappeared and I'm still stuck on 4.2.2 with the manual update via 'About tablet' not working.
If it's downloaded, can I assume that it's still somewhere on my device? If not, will I possibly have to wait days or weeks to receive the update again?!
I'm not rooted by the way.
