Hello everyone
I have one (simple) question: How to Change from Slim ICS 4.0 to RemICS 1.2
I have a little experience in flashing and ROMS, maybe a wipe cache / dalvik cache before flashing would do it ?
I have actually a GT-I9000 with Slim ICS 4.0
Any guide is welcome, I have searched the forum but was not able to get a clear answer
Thanks in advance
Just flash over it I think do a cache and dalvik wipe to be sure but it should be a simple upgrade so to speak

Hi
First, I want to thank you for clicking the link I provided
I can actually read a step by step guide (How could I get into Slim ICS if I wasn't )
My question was targeted to hilight any ancompatibility of this ROM with the base of Slim ICS as for example, before going from a stock Rom to this one, I needed a CM7 based rom
RemICS is saying it is a CM9 ROM
Slim ICS is "fully built from AOSP sources with some cherry picks from CM and AOKP team" according to its author
So I thought there may be a need to flash a CM9 rom before and in this case, which one is the more suitable ?
And what about the modem ? (I have now a cm7 XXJVT)
Nevertheless, thanks for taking some precious seconds to type some precious words (...)

Firstly, incase other people read this, slim needs a cm9 base.
Directly after installation instructions at remics it says it is a CM9 based ROM.
Further to that, it is advisable to post these questions in the ROM thread as you are far more likely to get a clear concise answer

Yes, in fact it needs a CM9 base

In my opinion every phone should have :
>cyanogenmod(latest version)
>Paranoid Android(latest version)
>PAC-man rom
>MIUI(dont care)
>AOKP
now for any of these roms there needs to be a solid base of the most important custom rom (well the mother of all custom roms)Cyanogenmod and the devs here(diego-ch,shaaan,frapeti to name a few) are working pretty hard to achieve that so only thing i can say wait for it....
PS sorry to spoil this rant of yours.

I would love to see MIUI on i9070. It's a very neat ROM.
you're right ... diego-ch, Varun chitre, Shaan, Achyut worked hard ... but we do NOT NEED KERNELS...but we NEED STABLE great ROMS like CYANOGENMOD....MIUI....DEVILS....SEMAPHORE....AOKP ....SLIM ROMS its total GREAT ROMS ...AND THEN kernels

And developers that do not have our phone need testers. There should be some thread with announcments what dev need a tester, and users to apply.
You need to learn couple things and setup some stuff and you are good to go.
The reason we don't have Many ROMs is because we don't have much developers!!! But yeah it would be cool if we had the opportunity to change our ROMs everyday...
Anyways I'm working on a custom ROM right now... and since this is my first time don't expect anything "awesome" from it...

WE NEED THOSE KERNELS.
Without init.d support, we will don't have scripts, custom boot animation, better drivers and powersave support.
I aprecciate the work of the developers, the first thing that we need to make a good ROM is a good kernel. JetMOD 6 now has it, then wait.
When Cyanogenmod for our phone reach his beta/final release you can be sure that all the custom ROMs that you are expecting, will apear
Sorry for bad english, greetings from chile!
Let me get one thing straight! CM is the base. Miui, paranoid, aokp are all based on cm. So once we have a stable cm, only then we can get other roms.
If you cannot wait, donate some money. From this money, we will give a device to the cm team. Only then we will have fast builds and fixes from the cm team itself!
If you don't want to donate, keep shut.!!
I do not respond to tech support via PM
Even screen broken devices are useful for this, there are very expert people in teamhacksung and other cm teams that can do magic even with uart

if this phone was released two-three years ago. roms/kernels/mods & themes will be countless the things is, SGSA is a nice phone. fhe price is nice too. BUT devs won't usually get this kind of device nowadays due to sources and lack of support from manufacturer. we are moving faster by the minute. you could wait tho. some devs are just around. some users are studying how to make a nice rom too and share it here. just be patient

Say it if I am wrong, but I thought the only difference between aokp(nexus) and cm is the extra features of cm and the boot screen...
I would like to over clock my kernel in my cm 10.1 ROM I have all source code and compile the ROM with kernel but do not know what to modify to add overclocking or any other modifications that could improve it so any links with guides or any help would be great and very helpful in me and others who want to learn this
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA Premium HD app
Well instead of modifying everything I am trying to build with neobuddys source with my rom I guess I'll see what happens
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA Premium HD app
I don't know about your device, but you could try looking at Github commits that are related to overclocking.
Every device handles Android slightly different than the other.
so i have a samsung vibrant and i do ports from the i 9000 to the vibrant. mymost recent port was built on the mackay kernel. therefore when i created this rom it is extremely laggy since i have it running semaphore. vibrant has no mackay kernel. therefore is it possible to port kernels as i dont know how to build a kernel from source.
if by port u mean like those rom porting method ie copy pasting binaries, no, u cant. u still need to recompile kernel from source.
kernel binary is specific to which device it compiled for, not cross compatible to other device even if the other device is identical.
assuming the sgs and vibrant got similar specs which would make the "port" easier, u need to grab the sgs kernel source u meant to "port", make required changes to it then compile.
thats kernel port, need to recompile from source one way or another.
yeah ive got a LOT of reading to do like for example: learning how to compile, learning what i need in general to create the kernel. thanks man

You should by start by building a simple kernel from proper sources imho
So if there is no actual open source for jellybean for my phone do I download a kernel that's already been built in my phones section and use use that as a base?

You can't use an existing kernel as "base", you have to getthe aource
Well I got some research to do then because Samsung dropped the vibrant a while ago

Edit
Hello dear P880 users,
The list linked in this post, is a list of all compiled roms for our LG Optimus 4X - AKA P880 and their respective maintainers.
This list only has roms which were compiled (original development).
----
The document has the following information:
Branch (4.3, 4.4, etc..)
Rom Name
Development Status
Release Version
Last Updated
Maintainer username
Base
And the URL to the XDA post.
-----
The suggestion of compiling such list came from laufersteppenwolf, so buckets of flowers and chocolate boxes should go to him
Suggestions and whatever are welcome. Enjoy

Hi there,
Thx to @MidnightDevil, this thread is a good idea.
As am not involved as a dev, only reader and user (noob and try to learn) of the provided roms, i just have a question concerning PAC-Man, Carbon and Illusion ROMs:
Fluoxetine dissapeared of XDA and all his threads are actually closed, is he still maintaining those ROMs, or MULTIROM for Kitkat?
Well, his threads now state he is no longer able to maintain the roms.
Latest Omni update is 03/08. Also, you could add FlymeOS to wishlist, that really is a great rom.

BTW, guys, anyone interested in TheROM (from p990) ? It is 4.3, though
It is closed source, but Tony granted me access to his sources. However, I had no time yet to work on it, as I have my final exams coming up, and I have too less spare time for tetsing...

The most confusing thing I find is blobs and patches, for things like video recording, screen recording, MHL etc. How about a column to say what blobs and patches are used, and whether EPRJ RIL is implemented?

@MidnightDevil,
Just find out that our device is "officially" maintained by the PAC Man team, updates can now be found in the download tab from:
http://www.pac-rom.com/#Home
I've checked on team carbon website (https://carbon-rom.com/) but unfortunately our device is not supported.
I also noticed that u can update beanstalk as the last built is was issued the 8th of March in 3 versions:
- CM based ROM
- P880-dev (grouper blobs)
- P880-dev (old blobs)
Hope that will help U to update your file
I'll update it during today.
Cheers
