Which case to buy? - Nexus 10 Accessories

Heya,
I just recently got my N10 - yesterday in fact - and before I take it out, I need to get a case. Leather ones seems to be the fad. I need one with a stand so I can display the N10 in my bedroom (hur hur). In future, I may also buy a bluetooth keyboard for it, but as of now, I don't see any use for one - I don't use the N10 for a load of typing.
Since there are a million different cases out there, which one is most popular and why? Thanks!
Remember, an awesome stand is required!

The moko slim case looks to be very popular, although with it's flaws such as the metal bezel thing scratching the glass, or no pogo cutout *don't know if this has been rectified on newer revisions)
The poetic slimline has some issues, and a lot of people have said they don't like it, but at the same time a lot of people myself included have found no issue with it whatsoever other than for making the power and volume buttons a little hard to use, something that the moko caters for, although something that can be easily remedied with a stanley knife or whatnot.
As to a bluetooth keyboard, unless you are typing long essays which it doesn't sound like you are, then i myself can use the onscreen keyboard two handed in much the same way i'd use a normal small bluetooth keyboard, that is to say in a cramped fashion, and type at a fairly good pace without much issue at all.

Thanks. I'll take a deep look at these two cases.
You're right. I'll give the N10 a few more weeks till I decide if I really need an external keyboard or not.
Till then, more suggestions are welcome!

Poetic Hardback (not the same as the slimline) here, love it, and dirt cheap

I originally purchased the i-Blason slim folio, which is nearly identical to the Moko in design. It's main weakness is a lack of a pogo cutout. It has a few other niggling issues (stylus loop right on top of the vol rocker, doesn't quite fold open flat to tablet back, came from factory with awful petrochemical smell) but otherwise has been great. The smell went away after a few days of airing out and it was perfectly fitted to the tablet with none of the issues I'd seen mentioned in the Poetic threads. The tablet is held securely in book mode, but the bottom is still easy to release for use in the stand configuration.
When I purchased a pogo charging cable, I decided to buy the Moko slim as it looked just like the i-Blason, was cheap ($9.99) and had a pogo cutout. It is about the same (cheaper feeling cover material) , but the closing clasp on the Moko is a bit of a deal breaker for me as it requires much more force to get it in place against the tablet top. So, I'm still using the i-Blason until I figure out a better plan. That plan may involve cutting a pogo port in the i-Blason if the Moko can't be coerced into a less difficult clasp arrangement with some pliers.

I just picked up the Moko case from Amazon and received it. Other than the latch at the top being a little stiff initially, it seems to be operating better now after a day of use, it's not anything that would scratch the unit though I don't think. I would recommend it as it has a tight and secure fit/feel to it overall. The pogo charger works with the case, the cutout is there now, if it was missing before it's not now. Worth $12.99 that's for sure.

I got the Fintie 360 rotating case and love it. Seems a couple people have had little issues but mine is flawless and I love it's versatility

I'm rocking the Poetic Durabook and I love it.

Poetic Revolution Case
Personally I bought the Poetic Revolution case. Its the closest thing to a otterbox- like case and it runs about 35 USD. has 2 stands built in, one for the picture frame view for landscape and and portrait and 2 for a low lying, upward facing stand. (almost like a keyboard). I think this is the only brand that i have seen that has built a durable case such as this. Otterbox and Gummdrop have yet to do it.
As a side note this case DOES NOT obscure the cameras, speakers or microphones.
Heres a link to amozon were I purchased it and recieved it internationally in less than 5 business days.

Have tried 5 different ones...this by far is the best of the bunch I've tried. I may end up grabbing a second case from them...the Standing / Easel cases look good as well. Might get one to swap out as need arises to go hands free, etc.
I've ordered a flip case from JanoEdge. I figured even if I don't use the stand I'ld prefer to flip the top cover over rather than bending it back with the book style. I like how it protects the frame, I don't have a skin on mine.
Can't wait, I don't have a proper cover for my nook color, been using makeshift ones. These look great!
Do these cases have the little bit of a cutout / opened up rectangle that the B&N cases have so you can hear the speaker better?

They do, but with the flip cases the stand covers it when it's snapped close.

Ok. How bad is the sound deadening from the stand? I'd love a stand up case but I would like to be able to hear the Nook speaker if I want to hear something. So far there seems to be this one and the Roocase that seem to do the trick, and the roocase lacks a cutout at all.

I have read that it doesn't distort the sound, but wont know for sure till I get it. Can't remember where I read it, was searching around a few different places on the net for views of these cases. Can reply when I get mine, within a week or two I think (international shipping), unless someone else who has one answers in the mean time.
I debated between this and the Roocase. Went with this one via Amazon with some GCs. $33 AC. Went with the JavoEdge Editor Flip.
Ordered a Flip for myself as well. Don't know when it'll show up though, due to the weather in the midwest. It'll need to travel through much of that to get to me in Michigan. Can't wait for it though. I've resorted to carrying the NC around in the box it came in so that I can bring it to class with me!

Using the stand case on my wife's NC...minimal sound distortion. It actually helps redirect the sound toward you in a way.

I'm pretty happy with the JavoEdge editor. Magnetic clasp is nice, the sound is fine thanks to the hole cut in the case. All ports not blocked which is good. When you fold the top back, it does muffle the sound a bit more, but it works great sitting up and with the top flipped up (not folded behind it).
I am interested with this case as well. Can someone post an image of this flip case folded open (side view). I would like to know how thick it is with the stand folded.
Thanks.
I'm also interested, but am wondering how sturdy the covermaterial is:
will it protect the screen well enough if it e.g. fals on a stone/corner (and the obstruction hits the screen first)
is it more like hard plastic, or more like soft fabric (which will dammage the screen when it falls)
does it come with a screen protector, my screen is a fingerprint magnet
I have the same case (tweed version) and honestly don't like it at all. Functionally it's fine, but I hate how the edges that wrap around the screen are just slightly too small and so they don't stay square, but instead balloon out.. Also sticking anything other than loose sheets of paper in the pocket makes it too bulky to close. I love the magnetic "latch" though.
It does offer some significant protection, however. I have dropped my Nook from 5[ish] feet onto a hardwood floor, it landed on the bottom right exposed corner, and the device was a-okay. I'm certain if I had dropped it naked, the Nook would be dead.
I just ordered the Pioneer flip case in brown from JAVOedge's site. These are some very sharp looking cases with strong reviews on Amazon. They're the only cases I found that I really liked the styling--a nice, casual faux-vintage look, neither sporty nor girly (though the Cocoa Cherry Blossom case did tempt this hetero male) and few of them look like a day-planner from 1997. They also seem to add very little bulk, and are reported to be very comfortable in the hand while still protecting the NC.
The company's site has more styles than Amazon: http://www.javoedge.com/reflexeshop...odel.do?brandId=63&modelId=1026&category=1001
And for the heck of it, because there was a "coupon code" field at check-out, I googled "JAVOedge coupon" and got 15% off! http://www.retailmenot.com/view/javoedge.com
@Bandage (OP) I don't think any of their products are "genuine leather." They make a point of advertising "animal friendly" materials, which beats rooCASE's Chinese pig-leather in my book

anyone else hate all the current cases?

All the cases look like they won't hold the device well, they all look not very well made and very bulky

I bought that and a tablet stand to prop it up when i need.
Yeah, I haven't seen any cases worth buying. The only one I like is the official Google case, but it lacks a kickstand.
Not impressed, if I get one of the current selection, it would be a compromise and only if it's dirt cheap for the meantime..
So far there is only 1 case that I would pull the trigger on. I am having reservations because there have been concerns over the manufactorer's costumer service and their dealays/lack of updates regarding shipping but if nothing similiar comes out soon then I will gamble on it and pull the trigger.
I hate that the official case is not available at the launch of the device, especially when you have so many people reporting that they've already scratched their screens. There isn't even an ETA.
I agree, don't like any of the cases...i spent many hours looking through the forums and amazon and don't like any of them even the official one. I ended up ordering this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008GFHO6Y/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00 not sure if I'll be happy with it, assuming it's temporary until something better and slimmer comes along. I was going to order a moko case but the right side of the nexus seems exposed when closed and I didn't want to wait until the 25th: http://www.amazon.com/MoKo-Slim-fit...=UTF8&colid=SSJ5KLBELNZ0&coliid=ICUJNDX8PNE5B

yes i also hate all the current cases i've seen. I'll probably end with a leather sleeve, my wife wants something just like her nook, can't even find something like that (basically snaps in and looks like a book (http://www.barnesandnoble.com/p/turquoise-quote-cover/23751364?ean=9780594296362).
I don't want elastic bands to hold it in, I dont want something too bulky, and don't want to have to unclip it to stand it up
I would like it to have some sort of standing property and smart cover feature, is that soo hard, slim profile?
The treegloo ones are nice, a little bulky for me, but my wife would probably like it, but i'm not paying $80 for a case (https://www.treegloo.com/)
Yup, haven't seen a single one i've liked besides the official case.
not a fan of any case yet either,
i had a yoomee neoprene case that i got for $3.50 shipped from amazon (prime), unfortunately they no longer offer prime shipping on that item without more in your cart, so that's doing the part for now...it'll do until a better one pops up with wake/sleep at a decent price
The Blurex case here is very nice. Blurex makes amazing cases in my opinion. So if this is your type of case you needn't worry about the quality.
I'm holding out for an Apple smart cover type thing, though it doesn't have the metal back or sides for the magnets to work.
I don't really feel like the back needs to be covered, I just want the screen covered and I want it to function as a stand as well.

Me too, I want a nice hard backed "snap on" type cover with a smart front cover which also acts like a stand like this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Swees-Ultra...X9DG/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1342463463&sr=8-3 which my housemate has for his iPda, just got a simple slip cover for it for now!

I really want something simple like the apple smart cover, which doubles as a stand.

Yeah, I want something that looks like a book. The style of your wifes nook case is nice but with different coloring and a white elastic band, it woudl be perfect. I want the treegloo case except Id prefer if the frame wasn't made out of wood but there's nothing else like it on the market for the N7 and the base price just went down $5. I pretty much want a FieldFolio case (fieldfolio.com) but for the N7.

This. I've been looking for days for a slim-profile, rotating case. I've found nothing, not even among the Kindle Fire cases, that would fit that criteria and the Nexus 7. Even if I wanted to compromise and get an interim case, most decent cases start at $30 - far too much for such a case.

Best Buy Branded Platinum

So I picked a platinum case which seems like a re-branded Seidio, so it's not a bad case at all.
I have a concern and I did do some googling on Cell Phones and Flash Memory with magnetic fields. I've always been a firm believer you don't mix magnets and electronics. Everything I've read says it won't hurt anything with the flash memory nor the phone itself. My personal experience says otherwise. I had a magnetic pouch for once my for Samsung A990 and it caused weird screen discoloration when removed from the case. I also have had experience with another device and magnets. Two difference cases I bought for my Acer A100 which ended causing issues as well.
So really is it a good idea to keep a case with a magnet powerful enough to snap to my fridge around my phone?
Plenty of folks around here have been using a Platinum series or Surface since the day they came out without any ill effects. I've got a Platinum series case and I use it frequently, but I'll admit to using a TPU or folio-style case more often than not at home purely because I am very, very mildly concerned about the magnet. That said, it hasn't caused any distortion on my screen or anything like that.
Not an issue. Make sure to turn off under s-pen setting pwr management pen detection (when s-spen is in a holder or not) to avoid any issues with magnet interference.
Btw, I just got Seidio CONVERT which is Surface/Platinum with an extra protection shell on top of it. Just tested it out, took a ton of pictures, and will post a detailed review in a day or so. VERY IMPRESSIVE case. Defender was rushed in with lots of design faults. This one is a design perfection! And actually already sold out at Amazon where you can get it for $55 (which is actually 2 cases in a package, Surface and Convert kit on top of it). But anyway, expect a detailed review!!!
It really depends on the type of magnet and its strength if it will hurt electronics or not. I can't remember which ones are safe to use off the top of my head but a quick google search should turn up the answer. I know they are more expensive than a regular magnet so most (all?)cheap cases don't use them, but mid - highend cases *should* use them. I think it's a special kind of low strength neodymium magnet that doesn't effect electronics, but I'm not 100% positive on that. The magnet should be just powerful enough to hold the weight of the closure shut against gravity, but not strong enough to hold the closure shut against the weight of the device + gravity. So definitely no refrigerator magnets unless they are only designed to hold a sheet of paper and anything heavier will drag it down to the floor.
I like to break stuff!
Thanks! After my post I did a little more digging and found that some people seem to believe there is a dead spot with the spen even with the Seidio. I did my own experiment and noticed that the magnet is strong enough to hold a precision screw driver against it while I jiggled it. The screen responded to the magnet when held right up against it. I realize that I am not going to be holding it next to the screen daily or holding screw drivers. I ended up mixing the cheap Verizon cover with the holster and it seems to work well enough. I only planned on using the holster when I wear jeans anyway. plenty of room in dress pants.

I have a leather holster with 2 magnets that hold ot closed but the part where the phone is is shielded from the magnets by a sheet of aluminum sewn inbetween the leather panels. They also sewed one in the back panel as well to hold the shape of the holster as the leather is really soft. It makes a damn good holster, look and feel of soft leather and strength and protection of an aluminum box. And the aluminum doest affect signal as it actually has an antenna booster built into the aluminum plates. I actually get better signal near the holster. Although I can't remember where it came from since my dad originally bought it for the og note then ended up ordering a handmade one for like 200 $ and gave me this one. It has a sort of woven or carbon fiber texture to the leather. I'll get some pics of it later. The one issue it had was the belt clip wasnt riveted in so it came unstitched after a while of pulling it on and off, but I actually prefer using the belt loops on it now as it doesn't stick out as far anymore. Under a tshirt you can't even tell its there.
I like to break stuff!
Ive been using the best buy case since I got my note. I dont notice any spen interference. But I also only use the spen every so often.

Nexus 7 smartcover?

Hi XDA! I am looking for my PERFECT case/smartcover for the Nexus 7.
So the official Nexus 10 has a smart cover that is incorporated into the "rubber feet" on the back. Today, while walking through a mall, I saw these Blackberry Z10 smartcovers that are incorporated into the battery door.
Do you know of a case that is similar for the N7?
this is what the Blackberry Z10 battery door/smartcover look like http://bit.ly/10KGnO9
tried looking around, I haven't yet found anything so I gave up. Now my N7 has no case but I might just sell it an get an N10 anyways
The back has never needed any protection so these folio cases are pointless....it's the front that always has, and a bumper of sorts with the smartcover built in would be ideal
Exactly. The N7 is pretty bulky as is, dont need an extra layer in the back.

I have a moko cover that's pretty sweet. Its a portfolio case that let's you stand it in landscape to use with a Bluetooth keyboard or just to watch videos.
I tried posting a link but since I'm a new users, the forum won't allow me to. Just go to amazon and search for "moko slim-fit case" $15.99
Similar to the Blurex cases.
I've tried lots of cases. I DID like the Blurex/Moko style. However it did add a considerable amount of thickness. I also tried the Poetic case, which is a slim hard back plastic case with a smart case attached. It worked pretty well and latches shut at the end to keep closed. The Poetic case is the best case I've found for a smart cover type protection.
I eventually settled on a hardback book case. It is stylish and gives it a little more protection. The lid stays closed with a strap but some include wood shells with magnets. I opted for the cheapest solution and find it very good. In fact it has held up very well. The tablet is held in by sticky tape. I've owned mine for months and never had it fall out or need to be cleaned/restuck.

Plenty of color combinations. I have a Red exterior, white inner liner, and a black strap. Nice and clean.
So iPAD mini like smart covers isn't available for the N7 ? I too just need a lightweight smart cover only to protect the screen and not the back and was wondering if something like poetic slimline exists?
The Poetic Slimline does exist, as my previous posts states, for the Nexus 7:

The iPad Smart Covers uses many magnets around the edge of the screen to keep the flappy flap tight against the surface. Others just use one side of magnets at the edge of the closing point.
Very good price too. I purchased mine for $20, but it is showing $9.95 at Amazon right now.
The Poetic was nice and I liked it but out of the 4-5 months I owned it, I had to replace it 3 times because the material would break at the seams. Poetic has a 3yr warranty and replaced it hassle free by just emailing them my Amazon order number. Because they are so cheap, they don't even bother wanting the old one returned... so while they were falling apart, other N7 owners didn't mind a free slightly worn case.
Here is a video of them:

Yea. In doing the research and finding that video, I noticed the different colors. When they first came out they only had black. I'd almost wouldn't mind picking up a baby blue or red one.
I noticed colors are a little more expensive.
@player911
After so much of research with matching my requirements, I just couldnt find an alternative to Poetic Slimline case. Looks like it isnt available in my country (India) which is not cheap option.
Any idea if there's any similar chinese ones or replica? Have seen few smart covers from China on Ebay but they have the problem of turning off the screen when cover is flipped around.

I've heard good things about the Nillkin smart-wake cases. While the case covers both the front and back, the folding section does not, which makes it a bit slimmer (Hard to explain, take a look at the link for a picture). Apparently these cases don't suffer from the waking issue when folded backwards, either.
Here's a review I found: http://www.androidcentral.com/nillkin-leather-flip-cover-nexus-7
Dad recently bought a Nexus 7 and we ordered this case, though we haven't received it yet so can't offer any first-hand impressions.

Heard about Nillkin so let me see
EDIT:
Doesn't protect the screen as cover doesn't have magnets on edges(magnetic closure) like poetic one to close it 100%
EDIT2:
Ordered Poetic Slimline

Moko Case finally available for TF701 on Amazon

At least in the US there is finally some movement in the accessory market for the TF701. There is a Moko case available for $20.00 and eligible for Prime! Hopefully there will be some aftermarket chargers/cables soon.

I purchased two, for the two 701's in my family. The exterior look was very good. The stitching neat and even. The case is very light, and does not add too much to the size, and heft of the tablet. Every hole lined up as they should, though the camera hole on the back is close. The flap that keeps the tablet in also tends to get caught on its velco. I recommend putting a piece of paper against the velcro, then insert the tablet and the flap as far as you can into the pocket, and then remove the paper. This will ensure that your "baby" is well positioned into the pocket, and thus aligned better for the holes.
The only negative is that on both cases, the interior "felt" surfaces were not very well glued to the case. The result was very unsightly wrinkles in the felt in both of the cases. Nothing functionally wrong with it. Just very unsightly.
Still, worth purchasing, and of note is the hole in the case that allows you to charge the tablet while the case is closed.
Update: After a few months of average use, the facing is splitting. The area on the left, where my thumb rests when in landscape mode has split. Very disappointing in an otherwise great case.
god damn where is that Transcover
I purchased the Moko case from Amazon for my TF701T as well. The fit is near perfect. Construction is decent. The feel is not cheap. The accessory pockets are a nice touch to carry biz cards, id, stylus and a misc document or two. Overall not a bad buy for $20.
Looks nice. This one has been handy for me.

Im looking at getting some kind of gooseneck tablet holder as well.

Car holders
I have seen a few rolling around the EU side of Ebay. Headrest adapters, and window suction cup holders to use a nav panel I imagine.
I'm still new to the site, so I can't post links until I hit 10 posts. :/
