Gorilla Glass 2 - Scratches - Nexus 4 General

Hi!
I own my N4 for about 3 months now and yesterday I suddenly found some fine scratches on my display glass! I've had my HTC Desire (Gorilla Glass 1) for 3 years without any damn scratch! So I am asking myself if the old Gorilla Glass was better than the new one?! Well i've never used any case but I handle my phones carefully all the time and never put something else like e.g. keys in the same pocket.. Could this be a warranty case?
Anyone else discovering scratches on their Nexus?

i only found threads about breaking / cracking glass, not about scratches..
but if you say there are some, i'm deeply sorry and will try to find them harder

You're pockets aren't as clean as you think they are.
And no, it's not a valid warranty claim.
And yes, I do have one faint scratch on mine.

Beware - WEAK Gorilla Glass! Scratches out of nowhere

Screen protector covering front camera

Hi guys
My front facing camera always looks very fuzzy and I suspect its bcos my screen protector is covering it. Just wondering if anyone else has the same problem and/or knows how to cut a hole in the screen protector specially for the camera?
Thanks in advance
Sent from my LG-P970 using xda app-developers app
woot~ maybe look for one with the hole already? I bought it that way for like 5 dlls at a local store, it has the hole for camera and another one like "L" for the sensors
I already checked if a clear screen protector interrupts the front camera and the answer is no. But I found out that a mirror/matte screen protector really interrupts the front camera..
You can find on ebay many good screen protectors for a few dollars.
Thks gonna go search for it now

Actl you don't need one...the gorilla glass is holding out well for me since I removed the screen protector few weeks ago. Everything on the screen seems much crisper too

Oh actually gorilla glass is quite weak against sand and coins, anyway I got the matte one but had to cut out the hole for the camera myself. ..

But I don't go to the beach nor put my coins in the same pocket lol. And btw doesn't the matte screen protector make everything on the screen look fuzzy?

Not for me lol I think our screen makes up for the screen protector somehow lol

[review]: Realook screen protector UPDATED w/PICS

So I got the realook screen protector yesterday.
attached are some pics of:
1. what you get
2. trick on applying the screen protector (or any screen protector for that matter)
3. and some shots of the N7 with the screen protector.
packaging is pretty nice. instead of cardboard, the envelope is plastic.
it comes with the screen protector, cleaning cloth and a screen wipe towel.
impressions:
definitely as good as powersupport usa.
there is ZERO lift around the edges of the device. which means no dust getting trapped around the edges making the screen protector ugly.
the screen protector is spot on. it matched the dimensions of the tablet nicely.
sorry about the one spot on the bottom right of the N7. dust. lol.
also, screen protector does not affect the touch sensitivity and functioning of magnet case.
easy of install: 9/10 (use the tape trick)
screen clarity: 9/10
cost: 9/10

The "eBay" case.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1840085
The case + the realook sp = perfect combo.
They came out with a screen protector??
I emailed them a while back requesting one (created a thread here on XDA about it), and they said they'd email me updates but haven't heard a peep from them since.
Is there a link where you ordered from? I *LOVED* the Realook screen protector I bought for my Captivate a few years ago

S3 Mini Replacement Glass

Sad day for me guys , at 3 am I dropped my phone and hit the tiled floor to my shock horror the top half of my screen is well smashed in , hardly hit the floor either I'm gutted only had phone 7 months!
Anyways I've seen a replacement glass on eBay for very little money £12-£20 British pounds
Key question is , how do you change just glass and is it easy?
Has anyone had experience with such fiddly work
Thx

ouch.. goodluck bro
Search on YouTube Samsung Galaxy s3 mini disassembly
Thanks I've looked and found a good thread on XDA but for s3 , what I think is best is heat up with heat gun to soften glue then clean new adhesive and replace new glass
Easier said than done though !

I've taken out a new contract and got the xperia since it supposedly has shatter proof glass etc
Was fun while it lasted

Phone is fully functional, just top half of screen is shattered
LCD and touch work 100%
Same as wife's S3 ( another story)
Shame Samsung don't make them tuffer
Or easier to replace.

How did it happen? Did the gear hold up better than you thought it would?
Walkin thru a door way ay work. Hit pretty hard. New the moment i hit it i may have scratched it. Its so slight that its not noticable. Actually had a hard time takin picture. Ive dinged it a few other times but thats the only scratch.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using xda app-developers app
Mine is pretty badly scratched too.. :/
I was bending down to pick up a box at the house and I hit my head into my brick around the door very minor scratch. Is held up a lot better then I had expected
Be careful with those screen protectors, especially the wet kind. I took caution when I spayed the screen but after getting the protector on I noticed to my horror that there was condensation under the camera lens! Fortunately it dried over night and everything seems OK. Maybe instead of spraying the screen I should have used a cotton swab or tissue to apply the wet solution?
Lesson learned and I won't be doing that again!

As scary as that may seem, it has been common to get condensation under the camera lens. I haven't seen anyone report a permanent issue from it. The condensation can happen just by walking from a cool, dry environment to a hot and humid environment or if you sweat a lot.

I only sprayed the screen protector and not the screen, i cant even tell it's on the screen, perfect and no condesation.
Best Buy
FYI For $40 Best Buy offers scratch protection insurance
Amazon had several types of screen protectors for the gear just not sure how well they stay on.

Can't show you... tried my best to scratch it but to no avail. Dropped it from 3m (10ft) right onto asphalt with glass first... Only a small mark on the edge not visible only by running a nail on the edge can you feel it.

HTC one durability

Welp broke the screen on my second phone now. Man if you drop these phones on the corner, the screen Is guaranteed to break. Anyone else have a similar experience? I do have a case on these phones by the way.
ive been lucky, dropped mine a few times and its still good, case is pretty beat up but rather it be beat up than the phone.
That sucks man! I guess I have a good case, I've dropped mine a bunch.....first few times I kinda freaked, now nothing happens, and I pick it up! Sorry for your loss.

I'm using the Incipito Dual Shine Pro, 3 major drops on the corner and no damage to phone. 2 small cracks in the case though. Better the case then the phone I say. Sorry you weren't so lucky op.

actually no not at all.. dropped this guy many many times and have a couple chips in the metal but the screen is fine. Even the other day im running on a tredmill and flap my headphone wire with my arms as im running.. it fell on the belt i kicked it and it still was fine.
hahah
I have a Otterbox Commuter on mine, and it has seen the concrete floor at work several times without consequence. Invest in a better case.
I spilled bong water on mines and my girl scratched it a little with my keys over top speaker other than that no drop damage and trust it's seen it's fair share. #TOUGH

Cruzerlite XDA case. The thing has has protected my phone multiple times till the corner drop.
Sorry for blowing up the thread. Was busy getting my new phone set up and preparing for Christmas vacation. Just now got around to going through the thread

Yea even a thin case around the phone will prevent this from happening - it will absorb a lot of impact since its a compressible material...
basically w/o a case if u drop it on the front corners it will likely crack the screen
This is because the impact is abosorbed by the metal- which will not compress, it will just push all the force down to the glass screen and crack it.. if they just had a little bit of rubber or plastic between the metal and the glass it would alleviate the impact enough so that the screen wont crack as easily.
I power slammed my phone and the screen broke. HTC makes crappy phones. I'm buying a iPhone
