I don't know if this is an annoyance to many people, but Chrome doesn't respond to the SYM key on the hardware keyboard, and just seems to insert a space instead. This is a bit of a pain for me.
There is an open bug report for this, but it's not well subscribed, and I just wondered if people would be good enough to "star" it, and hopefully that will bump it up the priority a little bit. You can get to the Issue log here --> http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=144932
Cheers,
Steve.
Sorry for bump it...but someone have a fix or workaround for this?. Thanks!

Is anyone else having a delay on there keyboard when pressing the space bar? When writing and email / sms etc i find that im pressing the space then typing my next word but the first letter of the next word is on the end of the last word then a space then the rest of the letter of the next word.
If you understand that you've done really well but thats the best way i could think of discribing it!
Yes i have the exact same problem. It also buggs with the backspace.

What language do u have on the keyboard? I have norwegian and i am suspecting that the language might be the problem. Think English is ok
English, just to confirm this is the Slide out keyboard im talking about not the on screen keyboard
Yes it is the slide out. So its not the language of the keyb. I see u have the schaps 4.10 i seem to have 4.21 not that that helps anything hehe
No im just increadably dumb and put the wrong version number in my sig! LOL Thanks for pointing it out dude, ill change it now! lol

Can't answer ur question, but am gonna ask another - if you don't mind... "does the on-screen keyboard come up when the hardware keyboard is opened too?"
AFAIK this is a persistent problem, but there is a null keyboard without any keys which wont get in your way when it pops up.
http://freewareppc.com/utilities/nullkeyboard.shtml
Surur
yes, thats the problem! it does so when its open. wouldnt mind if it did when closes
thanks for the link to the null keyboard, unfortunatly it didnt work. Ille see if I cant find another one
okey, I tried "Phm null keyboard", it worked but made the icon flick and looked strange so I removed it
Doesn't bother me just hit a button on the hardware keyboard and it dissapears
someone else who has a tip?
Same problem since years and generations of WM
I don't recognize it anymore. One tab on the hardware-keyboard and it is off again.
Pls. This can't be difficult to fix for a smart person.
The easiest fix currently known has already been stated.
Place the cursor into a text box, and allow the on-screen keyboard to pop up. Then slide the phone open and expose the hardware keyboard. Next hit the space key, and then slide the phone closed.
Problem solved until you bring the on-screen keyboard up again.

Yes ofcourse but it would be nice to somehow disable it from popping up automaticly
I don't see the big problem about this issue. Does the keyboard stay up on the Xperia? I know on my device all I do is hit the text box and start typing on the hardware keyboard and the virtual disappears as soon as I hit the first key.

it does bother me, but as soon as i press a key on the keyboard it goes away... i've come to live with it. i use skyfire most the time anyways

I tried that and could get no virtual keyboard to come up even when I wanted one. Had to change the value back again.
Hiya,
This has really been bugging me for a while now, so I thought I'd see if anyone had a solution for me.
I do a fair bit of texting on my diamond and I like to use the Phone Keypad format for the keyboard with T9 enabled etc. However for some reason my finger seems to insist on hitting the 'Options' button whilst texting and I was wondering if there was anyway to remove/disable it?
Many Thanks
Kev
Stick your finger in a pencil sharpener.
(just kidding.)
But seriously, a solution to your giant man fingers might be this: http://www.awethumb.com/Default.asp?bhcp=1

Speed Up Your Keyboard (Fixes Lag On Hardware Keyboard)
Another one of those fancy things search would have found.
yea i used it but i didnt find anything..thnx guys it helps alot..but its still a bit off lol..or maybe its just me
If you take your time reading the WIKI and FAQ, it'll be there ..
You know I've installed this and still encountered issues like what he is mentioning.
This file has fixed the issue of weird spacing when typing (such as "I love you" looking like "Il ovey ou" which was extremely frustrating), I've still had the general overall WM "Lag" of when typing, I'm going much faster than the phone can apparently handle, and I just have to wait a second for it to catch up. It will catch up correctly unless I've made typos, but yea I think he is talking about a legit issues that the RR Speed Increase doesn't fix on all roms.
Jason
Mine used to do what you are describing, I would get 3 to 4 words ahead of what the screen showed and would have to stop and wait on it to catch up to check for misspelled words.
The way I fixed it on my device was to go to settings/input/word completion and uncheck suggest words when entering text. Since I have taken the word suggestion off I have not had a problem. It keeps up with me just fine now.
thanks boss1234! I was having this same exact problem, and I did try the lag fix as per the other thread and was still encountering the laginiess. Turns out it was caused by the word completion. Unchecked it and now it will actually keep up with me.

Disable T9 ..... search for the cab to make it easy. ALSO , HTC's ez input keyboard also causes many of the lagging issues. All of this has been covered so many times that its annoying to have to answer this for the 10th time. Everyone here is right. Read..... its here.
The little button on the top of your screen brings up a GOOGLE search window. All i typed was " Keyboard Lag Kaiser" and look at allllll these results.
This was so hard
It took me more time to write this post in fact...........

You dont have to be a jerk..as a matter of fact if it annoyed u or erked u tat much..you should have ignored it.
Another case of search before you create a new post. Closing thread as this one is obviously turning nasty and we definitely don't need that...
I know it's been said that the non-sticky shift key problem in browsers doesn't appear in the v4.2.2 ROMS, but for those of us who stick with stock there is a potential fix...
SwiftKey Cloud beta doesn't suffer from the problem, and has the ability to turn off the auto-spacing and correction behaviours when using the hardware keyboard which makes it MUCH more usable. The only issues that it currently has, as far as I can tell, are that a) you can't turn off the suggestion bar which is a minor annoyance, and b) the SYM key doesn't work.
As the public beta is free, I thought people might be interested. http://www.swiftkey.net/en/blog/swiftkey-cloud-beta-updated/
Cheers,
Steve.

I've had reasonable success with fixing this issue by force closing the Facebook app. It has returned my keyboard to 'sticky shift' functionality each time.
