How fast is this phone?? - RAZR i Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I really fancy getting this phone due to its form factor, but all the reviews seem to disagree about its performance. Antutu scores (around 13500) suggest it should be much faster than snapdragon devices but some reviews say it's average....Confused!
Anyone give me some real life impressions of how fast it is? (my other options are the big boys, htc one x etc... Not sure about size)
Also do you think Cm 10.1 will arrive eventually after x86 issues are solved?
Thanks for any replies
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium

Not sure about CM 10.1 but dang, this phone is fast! Been using it for months now and it litteraly flies. And that is without the upgrade to JB even.
Testers from this forum found it as fast the Samsung Galaxy S3 so don't worry about the speed.

I agree. I'm not rooted and have ICS and I find this phone faster than any other I've had (recently Desire and Desire S)
Yes, using stock launcher can be a bit laggy sometimes but I use Holo Launcher and it's totally lag free!

I own a razr i and its the fastest phone ever seen....

Hello ALL did you discover lags, slowdown between screens after update ? JB on my mobile (xt890) working so slow. I don't know what is the problem. I didn't do factory reset after update. What you thinking, that could be a problem? I started using difference launcher (NOVA) and seem my problem gone in 80% because I really like Motorola's launcher with amazing circles widget.

Lucky you having JB!
The first thing I'll do after updating to JB is to factory reset the phone as I'm sure that this resets everything and should stop any problems left over from the previous operating system.
Sent from my Motorola Razr I using Tapatalk 2

My RAZR i is running stock JB and I get a split second of lag when going back to the home screen from an app. I think that the launcher doesn't keep in memory like the ones you get from play store. So it has to reopen the launcher when you go home. Not a big deal. As far as speed, I get over 4100 in quadrant. Beats out the Asus transformer and matches the one x (according to quadrant) so yeah. Fast fast. Love this phone.

Benchmarks are just theoretical and its all about how fast the phone appears to the user.
Perception is reality after all!
And on that scale the RAZR I is up there with the best. I cant make out any difference to any of the Android flagships that I have tried over the last few months.

Thank you for the great replies, it sounds like it performs way above its mid range billing. I get the feeling that a lot of the online reviews try to compare it with the likes of the gs3, when it's real competition like the HTC one s seems at least a little slower, has no memory expansion and it's way more expensive at the minute.
There are some great deals on it at the moment, so I'll go for it. Just have to hope it ships on jelly bean. I'm sure I'll be around the forum a bit once I get it, everyone seems really helpful. Thanks

Q why is radio so much slower than Skyrocket on WIFI?

So i have been running side by side tests against an at&t skyrocket.
On wifi off he same wifi router the skyrocket gets speeds up to 20k where the note gets a little over 5k. I have tried on a number of routers and get the same results.
On non LTE networks the skyrocket gets on average DOUBLE the speed.
Quadrant shows my note at 3900 and the SR at 2600. Which is in line with what I have seen on the web. Unconnected to the above, but I wanted to see if I have a dud note. I don't.
Anyone know why? Does the skyrocket have a newer or different radio chip?
Anyway, I am prepared to bet that the at&t note will be faster than the international one we currently have.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA App
The Note doesn't have LTE (the korean Note has). It has HSDPA (21 Mbps). Why the Wifi is slower than on your Skyrocket is another question. I have no idea.

How are testing speeds?
Next time you do a side by side do a real world test:...simultaneously download graphic heavy sites. The difference is negligible.

I don't have an LTE phone to compare to, but i can tell you i have no problem exceeding 20k on wifi with the note.
So it could be my radio. What rom and radio build do u have

Again... there's low correlation between those synthetic app scores and real world speed performances of the phones.
I've done side by side tests of Note and Skyrocket. Speedtests bear out exactly what your saying. But... Ive Then immediately downloaded say desktop gizmodo.com site simultaneously and Note actually downloads faster half the time.

Rolling another green android as we speak.
I am definitely addicted to Android since discovering MIUI.us 2.2.3. Take the best features of IOS, add to it the best features of Android, throw in a liberal dose of nuance, style and flair and you have the perfect ROM.
I never thought i'd be saying this but it really is an order of magnitude better than Cyanogenmod. The infamous Android lag is all but gone! The N1 touchscreen wonks..gone! It's like i died and woke up in smartphone heaven. Most of the apps i used to use i don't need any more. Decent File Browser? Check. Decent Browser? Check. Decent SMS/Dialer/Alarm? Check!
What i don't need in a ROM are a hundred features that i have to turn off because i don't use them. What i do need in a ROM are core features that just work well. Consider me converted!
I seriously wouldn't trade my two year old phone for anything on the market right now, not even if it were free. Not a chance!

pure curiosity
first, i have the android phone, then switch to iOS then at now, android again feeling to be more comfy with android (though iOS still rocks on perf and display)
but guess, loving now android coz to put my dev-inside
MIUI.us is working out so well for me. I have apps that never worked well on CM7 that are working perfectly now. The famous N1 touchscreen wonk has disappeared completely, (which is a miracle in itself), and not only are the stock apps better than AOSP, (Gallery, you know i'm talking about you), but they're better than the usual replacements. (Sorry, Quickpic).
A big plus is a beautiful U.I that is consistent throughout the software and on par with IOS. It's like somebody read my mind and made a bespoke ROM for me! It's all the little touches too. The nice animations, the way the music fades out when you pause it, (not to mention Lyrics support and a pretty visualisation), options for re-ordering Bookmarks in the Browser, a good Notes app, in built backup for apps, system and theme. It's incredibly fast and smooth too. Without the OC i had in CM7 it actually performs better!
Pics for the uninitiated:
How about a stock Data usage app, or a Firewall:
How good is that?
I love my android phone...
Still my first (galaxy mini), but i hope my next one will be better...

Gingerbread roms vs ics releases

Hi all
Question I have for the ics testers among us.
In your opinion do the variety of ics builds available (team rocket etc) warrent a change from a gingerbread rom? The thing of most concern to me is the underclock to 1.2. As I run at 1.6, are the coding optimisations in the ics builds enough to justify a loss in clock speed (until a kernel is made taking advantage of the notes full clock)?
I tried the initial release which was leaked and didn't like it - unstable. But as the various teams are rectifying stability, its more the speed that concerns me. Hate the thought of having a device underclocked!

That should be the least of your concerns, IMO. I have tried all ICS releases, and had lots of other issues, like FCs, partial root, some of the settings features (brightness and sound) freezing up the phone, and the biggest of them all - malfunctioning CWM Recovery.
You can do as you like, but I'm staying away from ICS until the next, more stable release emerges.
Edited: I forgot, there's also good old ICS SOD (sleep of death).
Well its just that the rocket team appear to be releasing stability updates almost daily so was more wondering about speed. I had a nightmare when flashing the original leak!

speed is fine imho, but I lost root which really bothered me
I would wait a couple weeks myself.

Frankly I'm very happy with team rockets 1.4. The only issues are small ones which have already been fixed for 1.5.
Regarding the underclocked CPU, ics at 1.2 GHz is smoother and faster for me compared to any GB ROM at 1.4 GHz. Scrolling is smoother and gaming performance too has noticeably improved. The only difference you might see is in benchmarks which don't mean anything IMO anyway.

IPhone 5 beats nexus 7 and gs3 in benchmarks?

Did anyone hear about this? Apparently the iPhone 5 beat the nexus 7 and gs3 in benchmarks
These were the scores
IPhone : 1601
Nexus 7 : 1591
Samsung galaxy s3 : 1560
I don't put much emphasis on benchmarks because I know the scores really don't tell u anything compared to actually using the phone for performance. However, I do think the only reason why iPhone won here is because the OS doesn't do very much multitasking so it may be a bit faster in that regard
Any thoughts?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Benchmarks aren't meant to be compared between different OS's. The iPhone has a lower screen resolution, an OS that works completely different than Android and FSM knows what else Apple did with it's internals.

You're not listening. Results between devices with different screen resolutions aren't comparable. The iPhone has 294400 less pixels in it's screen, so it uses less processing power to display images for the test. Ergo the tests aren't comparable.
As you said yourself in the OP, benchmarks don't mean anything at all, to be honest.
The only true way of noticing the difference between devices is to own the devices and using them. No benchmark ever can create a score based on pure usability.
I'm a product of the system I was born to destroy!
The S3 score is wrong. S3 scored 1751 (i posted the link in my previous post).

"063_XOBX" look man, I really don't care about the benchmark scores; I just want to know what people think of this ludicrous article. I was reading the comments and its absurd. Some people really do care about these numbers. IMO, all this article and apple have in common is the number. the price for the iPhone 5 lol
Yeah, but then if you OC that iPhone 5, install a custom iOS build, tweaks, etc.... oh, ****. That's Android. My bad.
Ooooh right so comparing benchmarks of two devices using different os platforms. This is sick they should just take iPhone off benchmarking ,it's os uses less resources and it still has a small screen, soo WTF are they saying

Who will make my next phone?

Hey all.
Basically i just want to hear all your thoughts on your current devices, and what you think of the next device in that product family.
My thoughts.
My first android device was the Motorola defy which really sold android for me, the fact i could treat a phone horribly by accident and it not care was a really solid selling point. The developer community for it was really quite strong too, it even receiving CM10 before my current S2.
The original transformer isn't the prettiest, lightest and fastest tablet anymore (not that it was ever lightest SO MUCH GLASS) but it was and is my first tablet and still works amazingly today. Good job Asus.
My current phone is the Samsung Galaxy S 2 which i bought outright after everyone that had one giving raving reviews and a quick view of the forum showed a very active community. Little did i know the issues the developers faced to get the aosp roms working properly, it is not pretty and it is entirely the fault of Samsung and their hardware partners (I am looking at you, yamaha). I know this and love the developers for supporting my S2 so well, especially codeworkx whom has been moving devices lately.
I love the idea of getting the S3, but i would only be going for the larger screen and if all i want is the larger screen why not go even larger and get the Note 2? Especially after its drop test video. It is a tank of a phone.
The One X+ Kind of interests me with unlocked bootloaders etc. But the fact i have to flash the kernel separately to the ROM every time (or at least that is my understanding) would really annoy me.
After the defy i would rush to a unlocked bootloader on a Motorola. That and screen size were the only issues i had with my defy.
But my current plan runs out in December which is only a few months away and i would love some ideas on devices coming into Christmas season.
Currently i am thinking Note 2, but i don't want to have half baked aosp roms because of hardware support. Ideas?
And yes doing a BYO 6 month plan with my local carrier is an option.
How bout this one?

I have the SGSIII and the One X. In the case of the One X (not the One X+ but it's basically a refresh of the One X) yes, you do have to extract and flash the boot.img via your pc using fastboot and the flash the modules via recovery...not as bad as it sounds. It's a great phone.
The SGSIII not only has a bigger screen but a higher resolution than the SGSII. There are many ROMs for it and in the case of the US variants I've flashed ROMs made for the AT&T variant on my T-Mobile one. (The international version also has great development.)

Thanks Babydoll one of my friends has the one x which i rooted/cm10ed for him the other day, it was an interesting look into HTC custom roms and i must say it is not overly difficult or anything. And i did see the scripts Tommy was talking about, they would be nice in easing the transition. How do you find the one x build quality? I heard it was hit and miss between users.
