[Q][JB]usb mass storage fixed or not?? - Galaxy S Advance I9070 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, it seems everyone is happy the their jb update..but it seems odd that no one is complaining about the mass storage/file transfers that's not working above 1mb or so and it hangs my pc...has the isue been fixed, the lags in jb lq4 even after kernel installation and this file tranfer issue , i reverted back to GB but the feel of JB was pretty gud and i also want to try the new custom roms released recently..
So i want to know if there is any fix for the file transfer issue??
i can deal with the lag but not the file transfer..i dont like kies/kies wifi/wifi file explorer, just the best way i.e. Via usb

I never had that issues, maybe on first version (but I can't remember). I used transfer alot, and no freez on LQ4 version. On custom kernel no lag at all. Just that damn dialer, it seems that is not made like it should. I use exDialer app instead, and that is ok now. Feel free to use JB again. Just do factory reset after you install it.

You sure??coz i have been on LQ4 but i was facing the file transfer issues.
What kernel and rom are you using??

Stock rom and CoCore 4.4. with hotplug/SIO or sometimes OndemandQ/SIO. Yes, I am sure. I transfered kernels a lot earlier. And once I tried ROM, 300MB transfered without problems.
Did you do factory reset after instaling JB?

Hmmm
Yes i did a factory reset..if u say so, that its fixed, ill try it again but with Repartition ticked..is that ok??

Hm, wait. I use ADB plugin for Total Commander. I do not use mass storage. I forgot about that. But with this it works just fine. I will check how it works with mass stotage. But you can use this too, look image. It is not with mass storage, I just put USB on. (USB debugging on)

Well Shut, I quite agree with kanidevil.
I used usb mass storage several times, but it hangs my pc. It says discovering items and like a boot loop , it goes on and on.
This happens only if we transfer files from computer to phone storage, and that too only with big files.
I tried to copy multiple files totalling 100 mb, but still the same.
Only way to copy files for more is mtp.....
P.S. I was about to ask this question, when i saw this topic...

I never had need for use Mass storage. Only if he want to use on some PC where KIES or drivers are not instaled. (can't remember if that from my picture works like that without driver).

Well can you try using USB mass storage and see if you have the problem???
Try to copy multiple files totalling more than 100 mb and see if it works. ..
Activate usb mass from
settings> more settings> usb utilities

I got stuck on last file. Tried to transfer 95MB with files that was about 15-30MB.

This means we really have a problem coping large files in jb.
For mtp to work, we need drivers installed. So I keep a copy of kies setup in my sdcard so that I can use it in other pc as well...lol silly

when I'm using Rusian ROM, I got the USB Mass Storage problem, now I don't have that problem anymore (flashed to XSE region)

Its still not fixed
guys after all those fixes samsung made...damn them for not fixing the UMS on the New JB Indian Firmware...Please help guys its not working still...
Did any of u found any Solutions???
Great, now my phone is not even showing the UMT mode...im fed up with this piece of ****...canvas HD can do better than this!!!

you don't have cyanogen's 1.4 recovery image why? as long as it hasn't started to actually flash anything you should be fine yanking the battery
I'm not sure what you mean about not having the cyanogen recovery image, i do
this is the 2nd time I had the phone freeze up and you have come to the rescue both times. thats 2 beers i owe you lol
how about yuengling?
Pulled the batt, renamed the zip file

ahh, i thought what locked it up was the fact i forgot to change the filename to update.zip
even though i thought it should look for any zip
so now that all seems well i can just reboot my phone and reflash the rom just like the first time i flashed it correct?
move to root of SD and reboot to recovery?

yup, thats the one
in fact ive started to use ALT A because the trackball is a pain
I just wish you could use enter on the keypad to select the file rather than the trackball again
because it always double clicks and thats when i should hit home to confirm, yet it backs me out because its "any key"
so anyway the rom has been reflashed
and i see the other partion under the storage menu under settings but it shows up as only 61mb free internal phone storage

do you have the hard spl or the danger spl? also don't forget that cache still stays on internal memory so if you want that number to go up clear your browser cache

i meant did you previously have the partitions or did you just make them? cyanogen's rom will do it automatically for you if you have the correct partitioning setup which is fat32-ext2/3/4-linux-swap(optional).
and about the sig. it lets people know about ninjas(at least in my case)

all went well till the snafu flashing the rom again

Ubuntu does not recognise USB Memory Stick?

in the process of creating a new ROM for android.. for that I need ubunt running on my PC.. got virtual box to run it at the same time as Windows.. just up an update.zip on my Memory Stick, but can't get the ubunt to see it so that I could copy it!
Any Ideas.. sorry but I can not download the file as my Internet limit is running this month and got like 15 days to go
Thank you for Your time.
Have you enabled USB support in Virtual PC? It wont be on by default.
Or you could map the root of your memory stick as a shared folder (or even simpler, create a shared folder on your hard drive and place you files in there).

Thank you for the very quick reply, however, the USB support is enable in the Virtual PC.. Created a Shared folder, on C drive, linked it to the Shared Folders in Virtual PC but can not find it.. been googling for the bast 30 mins and got nowhere.. whereever I google 'how to map the root of a memory stick' I get answers about what the root is, not how to map it!
please any pointers will be much appreciated!
Thanbk you for Your time.

I misread your first post, sorry. Did you have a look at this? Basically you have to create the mount point. I did notice then when you create the shared folder it asks you if you want to auto-mount it, which I can only assume means the same thing, so make sure that box is checked.

I did try virtualbox, but it wouldn't boot my VMs from VM Ware, probably due to VMW Tools (it accepted the image, hung on boot), so I couldn't test that out

That doesn't matter, as long as your host OS supports the filesystem in use then so will the guest. For example I can modify files on my HFS drive from Ubuntu even though Ubuntu only supports reading of HFS drives OOTB.

ok, done everything you said so far.. however, in the shared folder options, I have no option to tick Auto-mount.
Also, when I try to type the 'sudo....' into the terminal,, it always comes up with 'Could not find your command' or something like that..

I didn't realise this before but guest additions is a prerequisite for using shared folders (figures, really) so make they're installed.
Second, check that your virtualbox is up to date, I know mine is because I downloaded it yesterday, perhaps the auto-mount option is a new feature.
If not you'll have to do it manually, there are loads of guides around which provide the commands to create the mount point.

Looks good - to be honest there's a lot of functionality Eden just doesn't provide now that even stock android does - panel view is handy for the few apps it works on, but for now isn't enough of a benefit, especially since widget functionality just isn't there.
I'll give it a whirl on my PiQi Adam when I have a chance (probably towards the end of the week). Has anyone else had success with this rom or feedback regarding it?
E: Nm, followed the link over to nihacks. Thanks again.

We've had a few test it in IRC. It moves away from Eden, so its definitely aimed at people that aren't the biggest fans of it.
THANK YOU!
Finally. I think for the first time I'll actually be able to put my Adam to use. Previously it sat in a sleeve unused. It was so worthless with Eden on it. This will make a huge difference.
Quick question:
Has anyone ever been able to get their GPS to work? Google Maps always says location temporarily unavailable. I'm starting to think I have a defective GPS.
Regardless of what ROM I use, GPS never works. Any ideas? PS: Yes location using GPS is enabled in settings.
Just saw Albert Wertz's video of this rom. Real nice work. I'm due to recieve my Adam next week. Will be a willing tester. Do you think there is any chance cellular phone calling can be activiated on this device? I know it has the Ericson F3307 module for 3g, but do not know if it supports voice.
Thanks for your efforts!!!

I think there have been people wanting this feature, but would be a separate project that would apply to all Adam ROMs. I am unaware if anyone is really persuing it, and I can't because I don't use the cell radio on my tablets.
I do hope to push a new version out maybe tonight or tomorrow with the Eden apps included, but without the Eden launcher. So this would give everyone the benefit of the Adam apps without having to use the panel system.
Awesome.....From what I've seen {Without having the tablet yet} I'm not too excited about the Eden launcher, but some of the apps would be very cool.
A huge thank you!! Do you accept any donations?

someone on notion hacks who is on this rom reported no issues so maybe we need to wipe dalvik or possibly reflash?
or maybe an update since there is starting to be a a fan base building for this rom!
Can I just cleanup the dalvik with titanium backup or will I have to flash to clockwork to do it? First time I flashed clockwork I got stuck in a boot loop so I flashed from the internal with the notion stock recovery to update the rom.

When you got stuck in the boot loop, did you try wiping the cache in ClockworkMod? Wiping the cache from CWM seems to fix the bootloop issue for a number of people with the same issue on CWM (+this ROM).
I ended up reloading the entire adam at that point from the NI image and then used the internal flash to flash the ROM to Utopia. I have determined another problem that might not be caused by the ROM though now. I have a second sdcard showing up now with a bunch of jibberish letters and a lostdir folder. My adams internal storage only shows as having 1.95 gb total. Either my flash card is bad or i didn't get a good clean load of the ROM in the beginning. ( Never checked this before I noticed the HDMI issue.) My fix is going to be a complete reflash of the adam and reflash the entire ROM and a reformated sdcard. I also ordered a new (class 10) external sdcard just in case. Has anyone else ran into a internal flash problem so far? I don't know of a method to test my internal flash so I'm gonna just reflash the entire system back to stock and restart from there.

Yes I remember I had some strange SDcard issues and saw the lost dir in mine as well. It was having issues copying and pasting but this was only on the roms that had sniffer.(for me atleast)

I ended up wiping my dalvik cache via the recovery menu and the HDMI out still doesnt display on the screen. It does run a bit faster after an extended reboot though.

The problem you are defining has to do with the vold that is in the ROM and stock eden ROM. EdenX uses an alternative one, but that brings other issues.
If using linux, you will get two partitions mounted. One 2GB one, which is /data, and one 6GB one, which is /sdcard. If this problem occurs, anything you copy to your sdcard will be corrupted.

[Q] htc one update is corrupted

So what happened is that update 5.11.401.10 rolled out today, so I went ahead and started installing the update but I didn't have enough time since I was going out to work so I cancelled the update and decided to start again once I reach the office... But when I tried to restart the update in the office I kept getting a massage saying that update is corrupted, so i restarted the phone, cleared the update cach but I still same problem.
I read somewhere that the only way to solve this is by a phone rest, and since my phone isn't rooted I cant manually go and delete the system update folder..
So is there a way to fix this..
Flash your nandroid backup & then you can start fresh.

It wont be in the download folder yet as you didn't finish downloading it, it will be somewhere like data/local/tmp, must be a temp folder somewhere until its completed, im surprised it doesn't give you the option to redownload if its informing you the download is corrupt.
If you don't have a nandroid from a previous Rom, you can't do one now. A nandroid is a "copy" of a Rom. Doing one now will save the screwed up Rom.
When you get your phone back working correctly, then make a nandroid. I update my nandroid at least once a week. I keep 2 nandroids on my SD card and delete the oldest after making a new one.
As far as the download folder not displaying the OTA file, do you see anything in that file?

Folder and pictures disappeared after I tried cutting it into PC

Hi, yesterday when I was trying to back up some of my photos, which I usually cut it from internal device to PC, during the process there was a time all the folders became "empty folders" when I looked on PC screen, I thought maybe just a preview problem that needs time to load, so I directly cut some of those "empty folders" into PC, while it takes less than 1 second, but actually it contains thousands of photos. I checked the folders on PC that are empty contains nothing, but the folders were cutted out of its original place, I couldn't see them in DCIM. When I'm checking my album on my phone screen, I can still see those folders, but the cover photo becomes unavailable, and soon it disappears from my sight.
I believe those photos are still there, they were not cut out, I think maybe just the directory or index is lost, which make them unseeable. I have tried so many different recovery software to look for those photos like DiskDigger, but still couldn't find them, any suggestions on it, what should I do, is root the final solution for it?
Thanks!
The last view of a disappearing folder looks like this:

Meh, copy not cut/paste to backup critical files.
If you need to delete the original do so after it's been successfully copied. Otherwise this will occasionally happen.
The files are there, but retrieving them may not be a doable option.

Yeah you're right, I didn't expect that, usually I just make duplicates after they are moved to PC, I think I won't use cut function so careleslly anymore, copy paste would be much better.
Do you think some software offer "Deep Scan" option that only functions with rooted devices would work?

Been there, done that.
Are you rooted? You have more options if so otherwise it's irrelevant.

No, not yet, that's why I'm here looking for answers, if it's possible I will try to root it and see.
I have also heard something like mirror the disk to PC, and then use EasyRecovery or other tools to recover on PC side, would that be possible too?

Don't know. It's not like a stand alone flash card.
I avoid getting into this situation by keeping redundant backup hdds.
Hello crosscar, try with recuva for pc you remove the sd card you put it in a flash drive.
You open recuva will ask you what you want to do then choose the sdcard put in the flash drive launch the search.
