Hi, just came back to Sony after about 16 months using Galaxy Nexus; still setting up and getting used to the new phone and the differences between pure Android and Xperia Android.
One thing that is bugging me is that the folder icons are ugly, using a 2x2 grid of miniature icons rather than the standard "stack" that the Nexus displayed. Is there any way to get back to the stack display from what is used at the moment? A couple of my folders only have 2 or 3 apps in them so look stupid when the icon is built for 4+ apps, and I just prefer the stack presentation.
Would prefer to stay on stock and not flash custom ROMs. I am rooted by BL still locked thanks to the guides in the Dev forum.
Cheers
Can probably be done by hacking the **** out of the stock Sony launcher.
I'd just use a different launcher. I use Apex launcher.

Is there any way with Launcher Pro or ADW to get the stock clock from 2.1 that has the location and date on it? The one I like is the one that turns from black to white for night and day and has the date in the middle and location on the bottom.
I know, it's silly, but I've gotten used to the clocks that come with the Slide and I want to use them on my Launchers.
Thanks!
I am interested in the stock clock as well, but only to get the stop watch and count down clock back (I know their are downloadable ones too). I thought I remember someone posting the apks for the stock clock a while back...
I mean, I really like LauncherPro and ADW but I've gotten SO used to that clock and if it's sitting in the stock ROM I don't get why I can't get to it via the launchers? I thought there would be a clear way to do this or that I'd at least have the same options of apps and widgets as I did on the Stock OS.
Are you using a custom ROM? If so, those ROMs ultimately control what comes on the phone.
No, I'm just using the stock ROM. I haven't done anything to my phone. I simply don't see the same set of widgets as on the stock OS.
I guess it's my lack of knowledge then as to what the add-on launchers do to your phone...
No, I don't think it's you, I just think something coded into their software impedes access to Stock Widgets on MyTouch Slides.
Not sure if what you guys are talking about is the fact that HTC sense widgets can only be used with the sense launcher. That would be why if you install a alternate launcher all of the sense widgets such as the clocks are not there. There are some sense knockoff clocks and widgets on the market that can be used with other launchers. It is kinda like you cant use live wallpapers with sense launcher but if you install a alternate you can.
I think you just solved my problem. That makes perfect sense.
No I just gotta find a knock off of that day-night one with the date embedded into it.
Thanks
As said in the title. Do you find TouchWiz :
- convenient
- just different from stock Android
- un-convenient
?
Thanks for advance.
Thank you everybody for all your answers (just kidding) !
Let me add mine as I now have a Galaxy Note :
I find TouchWiz very nice. It is ergonomic, it does not slow the phone, and it greatly improves the look of vanilla Android (version 2.3.6 & 4.0.3).
I found touchwiz 4.0 a bit nice but im using ADW Launcher EX.
I very much like touchwiz over any 3rd party launcher because of all the features it has. I especially like the folders: I just wish Samsung would let us make a backup of folders . When I was flashing my SGS2 a lot, I HATED having to put my icons back into their folders. Not keeping folders I find to be a big mess.
I like touchwiz, go launcher is good too, but I much prefer Touchwiz
i am happy with touchwiz and no plan on changing it.
Used to dislike touchwiz very much, but I understand the Note has an improved version, e.g. resizable widgets, two way directions when scrolling through available widgets etc.
Now on the Note, it's my default launcher, though I also have Zeam--used to be my favourite--and LauncherPro Plus installed.
If nothing else, it's because I can create folders in TouchWiz whereas I can't do that in Zeam, and also the app drawer opens more smoothly.
I do like having 6 dock icons on Zeam though!

Thanks for the GO Launcher mention, it's my new free favorite launcher making my EVO 4G feel new+cool again with all those customizable effects (faster than sense too).
Go Launcher should now also help make it easier for me to hold out for CES news before deciding on my SGNote move..
I had to factory reset my EVO on Christmas after it was stuck in an infinite bootup loop for the first time but at least it fixed issues I was having with it.
- How is TouchWiz better than Go Launcher? TouchWiz looks like my dad's cookie cutter iPhone?
as a former iPhone user. I like TouchWiz; it also adds more features and shortcuts to Pure Google Android.
Got nothing against TouchWiz, it works well but it uses A LOT of resources.
Don't use any TouchWiz specific things really (Unless S-Pen features like S-Memo, S-Memo lite and screenshot annotation count)
First, I replaced the launcher. Apex Launcher is based on the stock ICS Launcher and looks great, but getting it to work with the weather and clock widgets seems to be crappy. These widgets know how to change layout based on size, and it seems like Apex is failing to notify them of the size change. Anyone know how to get those widgets to use a layout other than the long, thin stripe when using Apex?
Second, I'm wondering if I should replace the camera / gallery apps. Is there a significant advantage to the standard ICS apps? I'm hoping there's some reason Samsung gave us the old Gallery app, but anyone know what it is? Is the stock ICS gallery available to install?
I think if u just wait for a while. Some one will release a "Custom" Rom with re-design. Even though it will be stock with a layer on top of it, it will be all u need.

I'm not really interested in a custom ROM. Trying to stick with the stock roms as much as I can. That doesn't mean I won't install some better apps.
use Quickpic for gallery; significantly better than stock gallery, regardless of OS version!
As for weather widget, here's something to try:
Go to Apex Settings, Advanced settings, then uncheck "resize any widget"
see if the switch to conventional ICS resizing will change the Accuweather widget behaviour...
No guarantee but give it a go!

Yep should have added "watch this thread" to follow for ICS note version when done as ICS only out this week and no one will have it themed yet.
Personally I had a S2 and tried most themes and allways went back to stock plus a ICS look launcher, follow the S2 themes and you will see all themes don't get things right 100% grey txt on black background and then there was CM 9 etc with custom apps themed and you loose some of the original functionality.
Or follow checkrom.com for a ICS vers coming shortly???
Hello everyone,
I am new to modifying stock launchers.
(that means I HAVE NO EXPERIENCE with rom's / rooting / xposed framework, etc)
For the last few days I have been looking for a way to get a bigger grid size for my Stock Xperia Launcher.
I don't want to use a 3rd party launcher.
In the past I have modifying my Samsung phones (using 3rd party launchers like TSF Shell / Nova Launcher / Widgetlocker, UCCW, Missed it!, etc).
Now I have my Sony Xperia Z1 for 2 months. I used Nova Launcher + Widgetlocker. Then yesterday my WiFi didn't had internet access anymore. So I contacted Sony and I had to reset my phone.
So I start from a new fresh installation now. I was impressed with what Sony had done with Xperia Launcher within these 2 months, I decided I want to use this launcher (no 3rd party launchers)
So now I want to use my Stock Launcher and be able to get a bigger grid size and I want my dock to have 7 instead of 5 icons.
I did some research but I found it confusing so now I need help
On XDA forums I see people talking about using Xposed framework.
Can someone explain me step to step how to used this Xposed framework?
I saw the video that XDA developers made regarding Xposed framework. Which is very clear to me
But how do you implant modules? Where you find these modules?
I just need a bigger Grid size and I want a 7 icon dock, and that is it. My phone I use in Portrait mode mostly, only when Facebooking / Surfing internet / Watching movies I will use Landscape mode.
Can anyone help me out?

Thanks for the reply.
I will try it later on today when I reach home, I am at work now.
1 More question:
When I try this out, will my live Xperia wallpaper still work, in both Lock Screen + Home Screen?
( I am using the live wallpaper that comes standard with the stock Xperia, named Xperia. I use this wallpaper in both Lock Screen + Home Screen )
That is the one with the waves that changes color after lots of side scrolling )

I am getting this phone soon and can not wait. BUT, I really do not like the look of MUI. I'm not interested in having some kind of IOS look-a-like with no apps tray. Has anyone else been using Google Now, or any other launcher, for a while? Could someone who knows about these things explain the pros and cons of just using a different Launcher over MUI rather than flashing a new CM based ROM? Do the changes made by MUI interfere with a more traditional Android launcher?
Used miui7 on my my oneplus one for a good while. No trouble at all to just change the launcher. Was one of the first things I did the second time I used it. Mainly because I needed a launcher that would rotate 180°. Miui doesn't do that for the launcher.
But if all you want is an app drawer, you can easily simulate one with miui launcher. Just create a folder, drop every single app in there and place it in the dock area, where a drawer would be. That's all an app drawer is after all.
The only problem is sorting the apps inside the folder since on miui 7 I never found a way of sorting apps inside a folder alphabetically. I just worked around this by swiping up from the home screen and typing in the first letters of whatever app I was searching for.
BTW you're not losing anything by replacing the miui launcher, the miui experience isn't the launcher alone, it's way more than that. If anything, you're gaining extra functionality but just using nova or alike. Can't say about miui8, never used it.
One of the first things I did when I got the Mi5 a couple of days back was to install Nova Launcher for the same reason. The other thing was to swap the hardware buttons around.
It works just as you'd expect - getting an App drawer and the ability to have a centred home screen.
One of the issues with the MIUI base is that you can't change the Lockscreen wallpaper when your active launcher isn't the MIUI launcher. This is easily fixed by switching to the MIUI launcher, changing the lock screen wallpaper from the settings menus, then switching back to your launcher of choice.
I use buzz launcher and think it's great
Change the launcher. Miui is great otherwise!
