[Q] Contactless Payments on the HTC One... - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

With the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S4 looming it looks like that Samsung have teamed up with Visa to include Paywave on the device for making secure contactless payments. I know the One has NFC but will there any solution available for making contactless payments?

Visa and Mastercard want as many users as possible, so I can guarantee you that the One will get this too .. some day atleast
And there already is a nice app directly from google

Unfortunately Google Wallet is only available in the US

For now that is the case, but I hope that that will change soon

Plus:
This app is not compatible with your HTC One.

$10 Google Wallet on Nexus 7

Okay, I have been thinking since I am waiting for my RMA because of screen problem. With Google wallet available on this devise, I got my free $10 free credit when sign up with my Nexus 7. First devise with NFC to use Google wallet, it was great and spend $2 already at local CVS store just to try it out.
Now since I will be replacing my devise with the RMA. How's do you transfer the balance? Does the balance go with NFC chipset because I can not seems to find any log in options inside the wallet apps. Anyone how the wallet thing work?
P.s. The $10 bonus really sweeten the deal for me.

I'm from the UK so this may differ (but I highly doubt it)....if this is tied into your Google Wallet which is for us here across the pond not tied into our device and relates to the ID on the device i.e. your gmail username which ties into your G-Wallet and purchases etc.....it has nothing to do with that device....e.g. you should be able to use your NFC enabled phone if you had one which also enables you to buy from the same G-Wallet. If you RMA your device and get a new one once you setup the new device it will have your balance available in your G-Wallet.
Hope that helps.
:good:
From what I've read you get one credit per email address.
I got a few replacement Galaxy Nexi, and each time there was a fresh new $10 to use. Not sure if it'll be different with the 7.

This. Last week I spent my $10 filling my Buell with gas and then 2 days later Gamestop called saying my replacement was in. When I was setting up Wallet on the new N7 I was surprised to see a new $10 balance. Which I spent this morning filling up the Buell again. I was told it is tied to the NFC chip.
I got both credits on my GNex awhile back and long since used it up - yesterday I installed Wallet on my N7, using the SAME gmail account I use for my phone and the same gmail that has my Wallet synced with it, and I got a $10 credit on my N7.
Here's what baffles me. My phone's balance is $1 on it, which I left there, and my tablet has $10 on it.

Try buying something with your nexus 7, see if they deduct the balance from the $10. McDonald or seven eleven is a good place to start.

Are you able to get the 10 dollar credit if your nexus 7 is rooted and running CM10?

I don't know about CM10, but I know it works fine if rooted. It WILL warn you that your device is "incompatible", but that's just a warning, it doesn't actually mean anything and it still works. In the future, they might not support that, but for now it's OK.

WHAT!! - This payment method has been declined.

I had my family buy a bunch of google play gift cards for my son for Christmas.
We've been purchasing apps without a problem until today. I went to purchase Greedy Spiders for $0.99 and I could not use the Google Play gift cards. The card was greyed out with a message right below the cards stating "This payment method has been declined.", but noting a balance of $12.05.
I called Google Play support and had to go through 3 calls and 6 support reps before one finally addressed the problem. The developer of the app is not allowing payment using Google Play gift cards. The developer of the app only accepts payment by credit card. This seems crazy to me. It's kinda like going to BestBuy and being unable to use BestBuy gift cards to buy a Sony TV because Sony only accepts credit card payment.
I'm not sure how many other developers are not accepting Google Play as a payment method, but I wanted to share the story.

yep. Aren't those gift cards supposed to help protect you from compromising your personal information online? ID theft is a pretty huge problem nowdays. I would be wary of doing business with that developer....
While I'm certain this vendor is the exception to the majority as I've had an Android phone for years and never experienced this, there will always be some vendors unless Google changes their policies to prevent developers from doing this. IMHO, I blame Google more than anyone. Google should not be providing developers the option to exclude Google Play gift cards when developers sell their products through the Google Play store.
I just came across this issue too but it seems to be for EVERY app or movie i have tried to download. I have a google play balance of $85 that seems to be utterly useless now! I need to do more research into this because this is just not acceptable and i feel extremely cheated. This is the first thread i came across so thought i would share my experience. If anyone has any input or an alternate reason as to why i can no longet use my play credit to make purchases i would be very interested to know.
Well with respect, Google Play is more like Amazon or EBay as such they allow anyone to write an app and publish it. And since Google is a world wide service, some countries may not or be able to accept that gift card service.
It happens but it is rare. We dealt with this with the initial $25 Play Store credit we got with our Nexus 7s. A very few developers wouldn't/couldn't accept the Gift Cards...
Or maybe it is a time factor. Maybe the listings have to be updated to accept gift cards?
I don't see a huge issue with this. I personally like the idea that devs can choose their method of choice.

My problem with that is that i cant find a single app, movie, or song i can download with my play store balance. If there is NO devs that are going to accept gift cards as payment then Google needs to reimburse me for the money I already put out on their gift cards to download from their store which now seems to be completely void. If i knew i was going to be put in this position when i spent $150 on gift cards i would have never bought them. They claim on the card they are good for all purchases from the store apart from tangible products and when outside the US. I will be calling them tomorrow during business hours to bring this issue up.

if a dev is only accepting credit cards and not gift cards from the google market theyre app is being sold on...seems very dodgy

I agree. When I got my N7, I had no problem using my $25. Seems fishy to me. It shouldn't matter if the money came from a gift card, green is green.
And I was just thinking about getting a gift card for the Play Store. After reading this though, maybe I should try something different.
Well now.. that is pretty retarded.
If your goal in writing an app is to harvest credit card information, it makes perfect sense.

Hi, I know it's a bit late but I have just found a SOLUTION to this problem. You can solve this by creating another Gmail account and using the same payment method as this problem is not related to the the payment method but the account as I have found. Go into Settings>Accounts>Add Account>Google>New. Then create a new Google account which will work alongside your present Google account and NOT replace it. Go to the Play store and swipe right across the screen and you will see a drop down menu from your present Google account going into the Google account you just made. Use this new account to purchase the application. The application will be downloaded to your phone hopefully without your "payment method being declined" .
First I've heard of sellers even getting that opton. It's not on my developer console. How would the developer know anyway? The income isn't broken down by method of payment. nothing related on the merchant account either.
I suspect a glitch rather than anything deliberate.

App writers never see credit card information. Only the payment processor (in this case google) does.

Samsung Pay

So samsung pay is being delayed and the whole point I got the phone was so I wouldn't have to carry a wallet. Has anyone been able to use the NFC to make payments with other services like Google wallet?
tap and pay with google wallet works fine for me even with root.

Awesome I'll try that

Why does Samsung Pay only work with certain banks?

With all the news about Samsung Pay at the moment, it's interesting to note that the Samsung Pay Beta page says you have to have a card from Bank of America, or another specific bank, in order to be able to use SP. What I don't get is, why does it only work with certain banks? Samsung confirmed they've partnered with Visa and MasterCard, so why wouldn't a Wells Fargo Visa, for example, work? What is it about the fact that a Visa debit card is issued by X bank vs Y bank that makes it incompatible? From the beta testers who have reported about how Samsung Pay works, you just scan the card, enter the relevant details, and *boom*, Samsung Pay is ready to work its magic.
Any thoughts/explanations?
**I'll also note that something else that confused me about the media's reporting of Samsung Pay was that, up until a few weeks ago, almost all the media was saying "Will SP be able to beat Apple Pay?" or "Will Samsung Pay catch on?" I felt like I was the only one who had actually watched the Samsung keynote and heard the part about "Samsung Pay will be backwards compatible with existing checkout stands via magnetic technology," and thus I wasn't in the least bit worried about "whether Samsung Pay will actually work." So, part of me wants to just chalk up the statement that it only works with certain banks to technological more misunderstanding on the part of the media…except for the fact that Samsung themselves said it.
I think it is just the beta that is limited by a certain bank. If not, this whole thing will be DOA.

Question Google Pay vs Samsung Pay on S21 Ultra

Heyo, I have a question for all you boys and girls. This is going to be my first un-rooted phone in a loooong time and now that I have the ability to use NFC payments, I was wondering which is best? I was doing some research and I read that Samsung Pay now sucks because they did away with the MST technology. I figure Samsung Pay would be easier to use because its a Samsung phone but a lot of people say they like Google Pay better. Which do you use? Have you used both, and how well do they do? What would you recommend? Thanks guysss
ps I added a poll up top!
I prefer Google Pay as it just works without any worries for me. Its actually the single reason I HAVENT used the 4.0 Beta.
I just feel Samsung's versions of apps to be clunky. I mean it could be my mind thinking it's still 2011 when TouchWiz got a lot of hate. The only Samsung app I use is the Phone Dialler. Apart from that, it's all Google for me!
Samsung Pay. For the added ability to use with my Watch 3.
Used Google Pay on old Pixel, a nightmare with pre charges and my bank. For example, taxi app pre charges the maximum fare of £20, when trip completes and final cost £15 = £15 charge of card and leaves the £20 pre charge which takes 7 days to clear on my bank. Also the new Google Pay app is worse than the previous one according to reviews.
so....I signed up for Samsung Pay today. It's alright, pretty convenient. However, when you scan your debit card it makes you put in your PIN to your card. This is just an extra step. Does anyone know if Google Pay avoids this? I've read mixed things about it online.

I just added my debit card in today, it didn't have me do that. Might be a bank requirement?

I've read so many things online but nothing is 100% accurate. I've now had some time to use it at many other stores and I've found out that if the payment terminal originally made me enter in a PIN with my card, Samsung Pay will do the same. If the terminal approves it without my PIN, than Samsung Pay wont make me enter in a PIN.
At this point I'm just gonna keep it for a backup incase I forget my wallet, but its not at the point where its so convenient for me to use Samsung Pay over my debit card. It's actually less convenient because I have to scan my finger into my phone before I can pay, and I don't have to do that with my debit card.
