Should i jelly beans?? - RAZR i Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Good evening I received recently the availability to jelly beans, should I continue with the upgrade or maintain ics?
There are changes for the better or for the worse for the fluidity and the battery?

doesn't sound like its worth it. I like the gingerbread theme much better, but if it has problems then it doesn't sound like an upgrade.

[Q] What stable ROM would you recommend?

I recently purchased this 8.9 tablet and extremely surprised how lacking the developer community is, i come from the desire hd and im updating my phone weekly sometimes even faster, but i came here and aokp/cm are apparently buggy and the threads are outdated with some even months old!
Im used to seeing pages go into 1000 pages, but here theres not even 6!
Anyway.... its a surprising change and im skeptical if its worth even rooting at all! Any recommendations?
All the ICS Roms pretty much have the same bugs and will, until the Official Update. I've tried all of them and they're definitely faster and more customizable than stock obviously but if you're looking for a 'fully functional' Rom, either try Overcome (which is a really good HC Rom) or stick with stock for another month or two. I went back to stock, rooted, removed the bloatware and apps that I wouldn't use and I'm pretty happy with that setup until something more stable comes along.

+1 instead of complaining be thankfull of what you have if you cant contribute to anything then just keep that to yourself because that wont help. .
Yes, definitely be thankful. Check out the gtab 7 plus community. Now that's lacking!
Anyhow I'll suggest kallt kaffe's cm9 june 8 build. The latest build I've read has some issues with the device powering itself off. All in all, I've been very impressed by kallt kaffe's cm9 build/ports!
Stock ROM is ok until ICS update. Just flash the motley's kernel, overclock it to 1.4-1.5 ghz and you will be very surprised by the speed of it. Also benchmark scores will increase significantly and touchwiz will be smooth.

Agreed. But instead of stock, I recommend Overcome 3.2.
Used HC stock rom for 2 days and it was very laggy. Went straight to the ICS ROMS which are much better. Didn't test Overcome 3.2 though. Performance between AOKP and CM9 are pretty much the same but CM9 has MUCH better batterylife. Would definitely go for CM9 which is official so you can flash nightlies all week long

Anyone here tried CM10 Preview for GT-P7300 and experienced Wifi tethering issues? Ive just tried the "now defunct" AOSP 4.1.1 Port. I share my 3G all the time and i dont mind other bugs.

How many people still prefers Gingerbread over ICS on your note?

I had a chance to update my International Note to ICS but I did not do it. I actually downloaded to ICS (over the air OTA) but then did not commit to the install but instead chose to hard reset my Note to its original Gingerbread. I wiped out all data and my Note is as fresh as it was when I first bought it last year.
The reasons that I want Gingerbread over ICS is because:
1. I like full screen resolution of 800×1280. With ICS, the task bar at the bottom takes away some resolution lines.
2. I heard some stories of the super brick bug.
So how many people chose to remain on Gingerbread instead of ICS ?
However, on my Galaxy Tab 7.7 internation version, I will want to be on ICS or Jelly Bean instead of Honeycomb.
Well, whilst ICS is an improvement over Gingerbread, a lot of people dislike Samsung's implementation of it on the Galaxy Note as the Touchwiz UI has not been updated to allow for many of Ice Cream Sandwich's features such as widgets within the app drawer. There are also a lot of bugs on Samsung's ICS such as the deep sleep, brick bug and also some issues with the screen. Hopefully though, we should receive an update to ICS in the form of 4.0.4 which will solve these problems. From there on, I am just praying we get Jelly Bean but I seriously doubt it.
Whilst issues with deep sleep have been a pain, I still feel the ICS update to be a worthy one as for me personally it improves performance and also allows me to run some of the newer apps, which seeing as I use my Galaxy Note more like a tablet most of the time is always nice. The brick bug is an issue, but it only affects 5% of devices. It is still a risk not worth taking had I known before updating, but I cannot do anything now.
i prefer GB to ICS, less ram consumption, better battery life
What do.you mean task bar at the bottom. It's no different on ICS than gb?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk
If ICS matched Gingerbreads battery life then I would keep ICS on my phone. This is not the case so I had to go back to Gingerbread.
All things considered I would keep ICS if the battery life matched Gingerbread.
I've switched back and forth between stock GB and stock ICS a few times and, battery issues aside, I can't say I've noticed sufficient difference to care. The OS is just there to run the apps. So long as it does it efficiently then I really am indifferent.
Now I'm running Paranoid Android, and that does offer something new, but as far as the stock ROMs go I don't personally think it really matters, so long as the stability/reliability is there. I would definitely avoid the German LPY ICS ROM.
CM9/ AOSP > any Samsung firmware.

I used to stay on Rooted Stock GB, and while the battery use was great, ICS was a little worse in my opinion.
BUT, I do love the upgrades KingDroid ICS gave, so I just stuck with that, since I found I got around a days usage with GB and ICS.
Haha does the OP intends to ask regarding from stock GB to stock ICS?
I see lots of talk about custom roms here.

I bet he's talking about the on-screen nav.buttons (like on the Nexus), which isn't true at all. You can choose to use them if you're running AOSP/AOKP/CM9 ROM.
went back to gb+rooted, to feel more confident and the various reasons mentioned in above posts. waiting jb

i prefer stable GB over shaky ICS.
For me battery life is just as good as gingerbread. Just factory reset first in gingerbread then install ics. You will have no issues.

Well after a couple of weeks with ICS I just went back to GB because I think the web experience is so much better on GB. A ton of sites using flash causes too much trouble on ICS. To bad Android let go of such an advantage compared to iOS.
I prefer ICS for his new features and the fact that my Note is faster than with GB
I kept finding problems with stock ICS ROMs until finally settling on the latest LRK ROM for Germany. Now the phone is stable and with good battery life, sleeping properly and no runaway tasks. I have no need, I hope, to return to GB now.
Im on stock ICS.
Its not that much different from GB. So, a bit of a let down.
I did full wipe before ICS install. Battery is comparable, save for running Fox News app.
Bottom line; ICS is over rated.

[Q] Which custom rom?

I'm a noob when it comes to Android roms and such.
I have a rooted samsung galaxy s infront of me now but I have a question.
I have read that a lot of roms disable a couple of original features, like the google play store, video camera etc.
Now my question; Is there a custom rom that gives you anything like android 4.0+ for example with no features being lost?
Yes I have heard about CM but I read that it does remove a couple of features which I need..
What features will you miss? Play store and video work perfectly on cm10 and 10.1 based ROMs plus they trend to have lots of extra features compared to stock. I'm running Mackay ROM based on jelly bean 4.2 (cm 10.1) with semaphore kernel. Stable and really fast.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk 2
I'm using RemICS-JB_4.2 , and for me it is very stable and fast, UI is from SGS3, worth to try...
The mackay rom is very good
So it's just a myth that you will lose some stock functions? Don't trust me on my word but I think I've read that it removes HD filming or something.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
You can enable xl ram (around 400 mb) in some kernels such as semaphore and devil which can mean you loose hd video, but by default it is disabled in almost all ROMs. So if you leave ram alone it's not a problem and I still have 720p video. Tbh there is a patch now that makes 720 work with big ram anyhow, but I manage just fine with the 389mb standard with semaphore so I haven't tested this.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
So Semaphore kernel and CM as ROM leaves all normal features intact? Perfect. Just one last question; a lot of people prefer CM9 over CM10. Any specific reason for this?

Because CM9 is more stable. CM10 requires more resources to run on our old phones. You might not get enough RAM.I also noticed some games force closed on CM10.But they all work nicely in CM9.
Thanks for the answers.
Something popped in my head so that leaves me with 1 more question; I currently have hardcore speedmod kernel and I did the lagfix (transfer to EXT4) and it took some SD space of course. Now before I go to Semaphore kernel should I first somehow uninstall the lagfix? And how?
Thanks!

This is becoming less of an issue as development goes on but it is a factor to consider. I have to overclock cpu to get high end games to work. But you can't even install most of them on stock 2.3 so depends what you're after. I prefer the extra features that cm 10.1 gives. Can always flash to cm9 stable and give it a go and then upgrade from there, sensible to go to cm9 then 10 anyhow. You will have to full wipe between 9 and 10 though. So titanium backup is the best app you will ever install.

I'll just loan this thread a bit because I have a similar situation. I've only changed ROMs few times and I'm kinda noob myself too. I'm looking for a fast and stable ROM. Few days ago I installed ELITEMOVILS:s 4.2.1 galaxy nexus stock rom. It's good but cant get the wifi working properly so I thought I'd try another one. Should I go for JB 4.1.2 or for 4.2.1? Are the 4.1.2 releases more stable and is there a big difference in features and speed? Also battery life is quite important factor for me when choosing ROM (BTW has anyone found a good replacement battery with longer battery life than the stock one?). I dont update ROMs that frequent so it would be important that the release would be stable and functioning.
Slim Roms are pretty lightweight 4.2.1 beta 1 for me has been pretty stable and responsive. I also downloaded and flashed Semaphore 2.9.0s afterwards.

4.1.2 should be more stable than 4.2.1 as its been developed longer and even has gotten the official stable version released.
4.2 does bring some new features like all new releases but not as major as for example 4.1 brought, for this reason Google decided to keep the Jellybean name for the newer version.
Regarding battery life your best bet is a Gingerbread ROM, but frankly I'm satisfied with my CM10 in that regard.
I'm using a Pisen 1700mAh battery, and its very good for its price,I bought it from Deal Extreme, but be careful to research a battery before buying any, most of them are horrible and can even break your phone in some cases.
It's been said an official 1800mAh battery meant for the Epic 4g (Carrier-locked Samsung Galaxy S2) fits our phone even though it's thicker; I just bought one myself, but it's being shipped from the US and I'm in Norway so it'll be a week before I could confirm that myself...
The Wi-Fi issue with 4.2 is known and pawitp had released a fix for it, I don't know if the current nightlies from the CM team have incorporated it

[Q] Should I Update My 4x to JB or not?

Hi I guys, I m new to smartphones, I oredered a 4X! I ve read and seen many issues but its still confusing what to do!
Some say that with JB the 4X is smoother and faster, and some advised to keep it running with ICS, because with JB the phone lags and it takes much more RAM.
I m using this smartphone for everyday, mostly browsing, youtube videos, some apps customizing and some games!
All I want is that it will be smoothest and fastest, without lags.
Battrey Issue is not a big problem for me.
And I want the best from its camera....
Suggestion please? Keep it ICS simple as that or update to JB?
Thanks guys
Use for a short of time ICS and then update to JB.If you dont like it rolla back to ICS.Noone can tell you if JB is BETTER from ICS.But i think that v20a is very good and and not so laggish like some users say.

I agree with the brightness slider in the notification area, it's a vital tool for me.
Other than that, I find JB to have a lot better battery time (I don't suffer baseband wakelocks too much anymore)
Too bad 80 % of the fonts are ugy (Can you add more fonts without any problems, by the way?)
