TWRP OR CWM Recovery?

Starting from Varun kernel, ThynderZap 4.1, thanks for Varun , wich recovery is the best for our phones?
And, WHY?
PS:I have read some topics from Nexus, but we must have our thread for many newbie users.

In our case, TWRP have support for internal and external SD. Touch support. I think it backed up faster, CWM around 10 min, TWRP 6-7.

Is the CWM permanent?

Both are. Just it comes embended in kernel. No other way to use permanent, because they are on the same partition (kernel and recovery) on our phone.

If i flash my original FW, will the CWM is missing?

Yes, you will have stock kernel then, and all stock in its partition includin recovery.

i dont know if twrp has the same possibilities to flash zip files. i personally prefer cwm, who cares about 3 min time to create a backup and about touch support, its a recovery and not a launcher

Yes TWRP can flash zip, even use internal(varun modifications) and external storage. Both arey quite good, but I like that touch control more

May be future Devs can make CWM with Touch support, Galaxy Mini have CWM touch recovery why not us.....

i prefer to use TWRP
since tz 4.1 support TWRP, i immediately download it

So let me get this straight! If you are on stock kernel, you cant have permanent recovery. U need to change kernal for getting permanent recovery enabled. Am I right ?

Yes.
On some phones there is possibility to install custom recovery separate from kernel, but on out phone recovery and kernel are on the same partition.

It sure is possible to shrink an existing partition and add a new one, but that should never be done unless absolutely required, which isn't the case for us.
We do have extra partitions, such as FOTAKenrel, which are already used for recovery (CM supports this too, if you flash a compatible TWRP image to the FOTAKernel partition, that will be loaded instead of the recovery present in the boot partition).
It still just loads the ramdisk from the image present on the FOTAKernel partition, what would have been better is the bootloader directly loading another kernel (from another partition), if the reboot reason is recovery or a key is pressed while booting.

How it be on DoomKernel? It may reboot into CWM or TWRP? O_O

Edit:Now I know that Rom manger is support TWRP now,so I don't know what recovery will Rom manger use because Doomkernel has both CWM and TWRP

Tried the downloaded last night and this morning - still can't access it.
EDIT: Not sure why I can't access the download. Won't work. Tried with a http proxy and worked instantly... hmm?

For now default is CWM on my kernel... I will separately provide access to selecting default recovery to boot into...

sadly those apps use different way to call reboot...
anyways what was is important is that ROM Manager is now properly working...

it will have to be reflashed if /system partition is changed... so if u change ROM then yes it will have to be reflashed...

INSTALLER: How to install using the installer:
Make sure you have USB debugging turned ON.
download TabZ-lockeddualrecovery[VERSION]-RELEASE.installer.zip from http://nut.xperia-files.com
Windows:
unpack at C: or somewhere you will remember!
navigate to the resulting directory and look for install.bat, double click it to run;
Linux:
unpack in your home folder with 'unzip TabZ-lockeddualrecovery[VERSION]-RELEASE.installer.zip'
navigate to the resulting directory and 'chmod +x install.sh', then execute it, follow instructions.
Your phone WILL reboot when installation has completed and it will go into the default recovery for the first boot.
Reboot to system from recovery to allow the installer to clean up after installation (it is safe to skip this step).
Enjoy DUAL RECOVERY!
How to install or update using a previously installed (XZDualRecovery) recovery:
Create a backup of /system/bin/chargemon and keep it somewhere safe, then just flash TabZ-lockeddualrecovery[VERSION]-RELEASE.flashable.zip from http://nut.xperia-files.com using CWM or TWRP.
How to remove:
Delete the following files:
/system/bin/recovery.twrp.cpio.lzma (or .tar)
/system/bin/recovery.cwm.cpio.lzma (or .tar)
/system/bin/recovery.philz.cpio.lzma
/system/bin/charger
/system/bin/dualrecovery.sh
/system/bin/mr
Rename /system/bin/mr.stock to /system/bin/mr to restore stock functionality, then inside /system/bin/ rename chargemon.stock to chargemon check its permissions (should be 755 or otherwise visible as -rwxr-x-r-x). Done!
When installing custom ROMs:
Be sure to flash TabZ-lockeddualrecovery[VERSION]-RELEASE.flashable.zip from http://nut.xperia-files.com after installing the ROM and before you reboot, this way you will not lose recovery!
How to use:
At boot, once you feel the phone vibrate and while you see the green led burn:
- press VOL-UP for PhilZ Touch;
- press VOL-DOWN for TWRP.
To enter Vanilla CWM, you will need to use the (free) NDRUtils app from the Play store
2.x Features:
When you have a SDCard1 and the XZDualRecovery is able to use it, you can put a file called 'donotrun' inside the XZDualRecovery log folder to make XZDualRecovery escape following boot attempts.
If you find yourself in a bootloop situation, take out your SDCard1 and put that file in the directory if it exists using a PC. Reboot your phone with Power+Vol-UP and you will be able to boot your phone as if there was no recovery there!
XZDualRecovery will signal the escape or any reason why it would not be able to continue normal operation with a 2 second burn of your LED in the color RED. A reason would be a broken /cache and no SDCard1 or a busybox in /system/xbin which does not support the lzcat command. If you see that, check /tmp/XZDualRecovery for a logfile there, it will tell you why.
XZDualRecovery will try to use your SDCard1 for logging and functionality, if it has been formatted with ext2/4, FAT16/32 or exFAT. NTFS is currently unsupported.
XZDualRecovery now prevents the RIC service from starting up, this means when running XZDualRecovery the Remount-Reboot fix is no longer needed.
Defaults:
The default on first boot with the boot-to-recovery flag set by any recovery is PhilZ Touch Recovery.
Init.d support is disabled by default, set dr.enable.initd to true to enable it.
Insecure ramdisk support is disabled by default, set dr.insecure.ramdisk to true to enable it, set to 'power' to boot it by pressing the power button at boot.
Error reporting:
Please, when reporting errors or problems:
Put up a notice in this thread providing the package name you used to install or update;
Include ROM name and/or FW version numbers;
Include what SU apk you are using (SuperUser or SuperSU)
Send me the contents of all the log files from right after a failed boot attempt or a link to an archive containing these logs by PM (that's including the .old rotation logs!). If you have no website or online location to store the logs, PM me for an email address to send them to.
Logs can be found inside:
/cache/recovery
/tmp/XZDualRecovery
/storage/sdcard1/XZDualRecovery
/cache/XZDualRecovery (if the previous exists, this one will not!)
NOTE: I need them ALL!

Probably yes, but i can not say yes for 100%. Just install 2.5 BETA and see, it will most probably work.

That would be any STOCK based ROM for your model.

You can only flash ROM's that do NOT require a custom kernel on a locked bootloader.
The XZDualRecovery does NOT offer dualboot, only dual recovery, it means you can use either TWRP or CWM to flash, backup and restore your tablet.
If you ever try to flash a new ROM, you create a backup using either recovery first. In case of a bootloop you can then restore your tablet using either a FTF combined with FLASHTOOL or use SUS to restore it to working order. Then you can root it again and install XZDualRecovery to be able to restore your backup.
Just as a friendly pointer: it's wise to have an external sdcard when flashing ROM's as in case of emergency, the SUS (for sure) or FLASHTOOL (if your not carefull) restores both wipe your internal storage, and if you stored your backups there, they will be gone.
Be sure to keep a backup of your internal storage contents on your pc/Mac... Just as a precaution.

Confirmed. It worked on my SGP311. I did a CWM backup without a glitch. Still have to try to restore.

If I get a bootloop, how come I can't just go into cwm recovery and restore a nandroid backup? Why having to do ftf and flashtool, reroot, reinstall recovery, then restore backup?

You might be able to boot to recovery in case of a bootloop, but if that's not possible that might be your only solution. It all depends on where during boot the loop occurs.

Never is a big word
If you unlock your bootloader using FLASHTOOL after creating a backup of the TA partition it might just be helpful enough to flash whatever you want TWRP and CWM are able to flash a kernel, just not a custom one on a locked bootloader.
Doing so will result in a soft-bricked device with the risk of having to wipe everything on your device.
But no, a CM, AOSP or AOKP ROM implies a custom kernel, that will never work on a locked bootloader, but that should already be communicated by the respective ROM builders, but from my perspective at least: that is something outside the scope of this thread...

Maybe, maybe not. We know that a kernelthread (kworker) is using constantly around 40% of the cpu. But we can't find the cause of that or just stop it.

To see the changes, at the end of any recovery flash, search and select, in the menu of your recovery -> reboot in recovery

To fix 2.6.1.1 twrp installation issues go to updater-script and delete the format system line, and format it in twrp among with the wipes

Updated the CWM.
The problem u have with twrp2.6.1.1. i cant reproduce it. Even with the file downloaded from this xda and flashed on my friends razr i.
Can u try it one more time and make sure u got the right one I would apreciate it!

I can not flash Omars Rom with CWMR 6.0.3.6
It gets stuck after ~ 3 seconds.
Did a Power Button + Vol Down Reboot and flashed CWMR Black back.
This recovery could flash the same .zip file without problem.

As I said in the 1st post ..... I do not serve, for example TWRP 2.6.1.1 .... yet others if
I use TWRP 2.6.0.0 .....
Note: CWMR black and "Standar or Gray" version and TWRP 2.6.0.0, we serve all

[Q] Please Help! CWM Recovery and Backup with Sony Xperia TL lt30at

I have searched everywhere in dozens of posts about using the CWM recovery and backup and tried several things with no luck.
What I have: sony xperia tl lt30at, rooted, locked bootloader, 4.1.2 JB, .120 build#
What I think I have: CWM Recovery
What I am trying to do: Install XperimenT Custom ROM or some ROM that will work with lt30at (I just want to make something work)
What's stopping me thus far: I can't Backup my Stock ROM and can't get into Recovery
So far i have successfully rooted my phone and I believe that I have installed a CWM-based recovery --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2012738 I have the zip file to the ROM that I want to use but I can't/don't want to do anything until I create a Backup of my stock ROM. I tried to do this through ROM Manger but every time I try it only reboots my phone without saving the backup. I read that I could create a Backup in Recovery mode but I'm also having trouble getting there. This makes me believe that I don't have CWM installed but the code in CMD read that it was successfully installed and I have a folder for it.
My Questions: Am I doing something wrong? Have I left out a step? Is this impossible to do with a locked bootloader?

Try rebooting the phone and pressing volume up repeatedly when you see the Sony logo. Don't bother with rom manager.
I take it you didn't read the all in one thread.... All the info you need is there

I've already tried that. It looks as if its trying to load into recovery but it just continues on to boot up.

Well you have not installed recovery then.
Read the all in one thread, especially post 2 and 3, and see how to install recovery properly.
