TW5 for CM9 (Solved) - Galaxy Ace S5830 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am looking for a working port for CM9 for our die-hard Ace. I ooked for several days and I found only a few threads that even remotely gave me some hope. Is there any such thing at all? Have I overlooked something? I know there is a version for CM10 that is working great.
I stumbled upon this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1667854
I flashed the file and it worked but the resolution was too high so the apps were overlapped by the dock.
I would ask a good modder/themer if he could resize the launcher to the resolution needed for our Ace. Btw, I am usin Maclaw's AOSP ICS final.
Thanks in advance.Cheers!

Solved!
After some more research I stumbled upon a post that put an end to my misery!
I got TW5 working on Maclaw's final AOSP version with this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1724553
You have to follow the steps and everything will be just fine.
A few little hiccups there are though, namely in step 1 of maxx35000's post you have to go to his other post and download the file called "seclauncher2mdpiV1.10_Signed.apk". Although it is stated in the thread I made the mistake of using "seclauncher2_Signed.apk" and the launcher had not the desired resolution for our Ace. I jut note this so people do not get confused as silly me did. Also, the files "AccuweatherDaemon_Signed.apk", "AccuweatherWidget_Main_Signed.apk", "AccuweatherWidget_Signed.apk" and aforementioned "seclauncher2mdpiV1.10_Signed.apk" go into the /system/app folder. Just change the permissions and reboot, no need to install anything.
Another thing is that people might have doubts about to where put the files. All files got the /system folder. So, if the post says that you should put a certain file in "lib", it is meant that you put the file in /system/lib. For example, upon copying the extracted files of "system.zip" (there should be 3 folders in the system folder of the zip, namely "lib", "framework" and "etc" and some files in those folders as well) onto your SD card, the files in the "framework" folder have to be copied to /system/framework.
If you follow the steps in the OP,everything will work out just fine.
I did not develop/compile any of this, I just posted a link with some more detailed instructions (for noobs like me). All the credit goes to maxx3500. He deserves the thanks, not me!
Cheers!
P.S. Mods may remove the thread if deemed unimportant

[Q] Newbie Questions!

Hi, I'm new to this forum, but I really appreciate the work you all do and would like to learn how to contribute. However, I do have a few questions about Boot Screens and Themes.
How exactly do you create Boot Screens? and are different boot screens interchangeable with different ROMS
Also are themes interchangeable with different ROMS or are they specifically made ?
Lastly, I'm running Fasty II 1.9, is their a thread with specific bootscreens and themes for it? Thanks!
How exactly do you create Boot Screens? and are different boot screens interchangeable with different ROMS
Easiest way to do this would be to grab the bootanimation.zip out of the /system/media folder in your current rom, unzip it, and take a look inside. It's just two folders (part0 and part1) with .png files in it that play in sequence, and a text file (desc.txt). The desc.txt file tells android how to play those files in the two folders. For your first go around, I'd recommend just trying to swap files (with the same names) with the files in the bootanimation.zip file you grab. Just make sure to use 7zip with no compression (store only mode) when you put the files back together, and that the 3 files (part0,part1, and desc.txt) are on the top level of the zip file.
Also are themes interchangeable with different ROMS or are they specifically made ?
Themes are usually specific to the rom they're made for. Unless a theme specifically calls out "Multi-rom", assume that it's best to stay with themes built for your rom.
Lastly, I'm running Fasty II 1.9, is their a thread with specific bootscreens and themes for it? Thanks!
Ahem. Boom and boom.
Thanks Alot!!
No problem.
Also, I realized I forgot to answer your question about boot animations working between Roms. The answer is: Uh... maybe? If you really like a particular boot animation, I'd suggest backing up whatever you currently have and dropping it in. Worst case scenario is that it doesn't work and you have to restore the backup.
You can also just pull the files from the one you want (in the part0/part1 folders) and drop them in a copy of the one that's currently working for you. Then just put that in the /system/media folder.
I was just getting ready to ask about that. Thanks I figured it out. It's fun actually learning to do it instead of just asking for it

[Q] Locating a deodexed copy of BlurEmail.apk

I've been searching through here and over on RootzWiki for a Droid 3 copy of BlurEmail.apk. I haven't successfully been able to locate the file or a dump containing the file that I'm confident will work. I am a noob and I apologize for that, hopefully this question hasn't been asked and answered a million times, though if it has I can't find it. I've been looking for the last three hours I promise, I just can't find what I'm looking for.
I have BlurEmail.apk and BlurEmail.odex that I know works on my phone out of my backup prior to installing Steel Droid. Can I deodex this myself, or am I able to just drop both of these files into /system/app and be back in business?
You would have to deodex to use in a rom that is deodexed all ready.
I had to do this as well, needed email on steel droid. Just download Monster Rom bloated, and then you can pull it out of there.
1) Obtain the Deodexed install from RootzWiki. (Or if you have a back-up, that will work too!)
2) Extract the zip file (I downloaded mine to the PC and unzipped it there).
3) Open the extracted folder, then navigate to /system/app.
4) Locate the BlurEmail.apk file (not to be confused with blur_email.apk) and copy it.
5) Paste the file to the SD card or internal storage.
6) Using a file explorer (such as Root Explorer),copy the file from where you put it and paste to the /system/app directory (you may need to mount as RW first).
7) Set the permissions to rw-r--r-- by long-pressing and selecting "Permissions" (this is if you use Root Explorer, other programs may vary). Make sure owner has Read and Write, while Group and Others have Read only.
8) Reboot phone, and enjoy!
***NOTE THIS IS NOT MY FIND. I WAS HELPED WITH SAME ISSUE. I AM NOT COPYING ANYONES HARD WORK***
thats your answer. When it says locate deodex locate the stock deodex not the deodex debloated version. Follow steps. It works. I did it. And im running sd3.

I'm using the email.apk file taken from a Desire Z cyanogen rom, I consider it way better than blur email because I can mix the accounts and assign a custom color for every inbox.
I've just deleted the blur email and copied the email.apk in the system/app folder

I had been able to locate that post you quoted for directions on how to do it, which are straight forward. I'm just having trouble finding a BlurEmail.apk, email.apk, or Messaging.apk that when used in coordination with these instructions gets me to a corporate e-mail inbox. I'll keep downloading different ROM's and trying different ones I guess until I can find one that works for me.
If I ever get to that point I'll attach it to a follow-up post so if someone finds themselves in my shoes later they can just pull that down and be set.
Okay, finally found what I needed to get back working with corporate e-mail. I can't attach to this post unfortunately, nor am I allowed to post links in a post so... I'm throwing this archive up on one of my boxes so if someone else needs it they can maybe find it faster than I did.

thank you!
I had the same issue. I found Mail Droid in the market to be better than anything I've used prior.

[Q] How to make Custom Rom ?

Did anyone has tried the dsixda Android Kitchen to make a custom rom for OB ? Is it working ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=633246
or just give me a link to very helpful site about how to make custom rom for OB
For starters, yes it works. but nothing compares as to compiling and building from source (Linux).
What you need is a mere system dump or backup from CWM.
That backup will be saved in your CWM folder in SD
Grab the boot.img & system.ext3.tar
unpack the .tar with a zip/RAR propgram
grab a base upater script from the many ROMs around here
Now for a start:
your base ROM like Zeus etc.
Delete the system folder and boot.img from that zip.
Replace files.
Use dsixda kitchen via cygwin (windows)
Now do as you please... it can unpack boot.img and add features like init.d etc.
Adding apps:
Apps can be added together with som libs (system/lib). Example: Terminal Emulator. the lib is some "jackpal" or something. .
When you download an app, apk will be saved in data/app in your phone. The lib or added files will be saved in data/data/(app name folder)/lib. Grab the apk and insert in system/app (kitchen's working folder). Grab the lib and insert it in system/lib (kitchen's working folder).

many thanks gabwerkz. I had been searching ebook The Complete Idiot's Guides to custom rom, but I think the book has not published yet.
I only once tried to cook with kitchen, but that's waaaaay back and there I simply had no clue, of what I am doing and those days, the cust ROM I made, didnt work, but I simply randomly applied mods/tweaks and also had no clue of how things like updater-script work, but now I do and maybe as soon as I got some time again (in about 2 months ) I'll give it another shot and also read a lot about deving on my own and all the stuff related to it. Then maybe I'll be able to help all the cookers here out in a better way, cause until now, I only got the basics
You can start with simply things, like extracting the files with a packer, remove LG bloatware, add files/patches, you can find in dev section, add apps you like and think others might like as well, change lockscreen, launcher, keyboard,...
Remember to always do this step by step and make a changelog for yourself, so you know, where you might have made a mistake (also important for others to be able to help you). Then repack your ROM, sign and test it, if it works properly, use kitchen, to zipaligne, deodex, change filesystem,... And as soon as you are satisfied, post it/PM the good ones in here, to test it and ask for opinions, what you might change next. Custom kernels are always cool, cause you can change way more, like governors, iosched,... But that will take more time to dev and a lot more time to test for errors
Hope this helps you out a bit

Additional files for Beats Audio

I was looking in some other forums and found some updates for the Beats Audio files. It was about a week ago so I can't really remember which forum I found them in or who to thank... but it's definitely not me lol. After some trial and error and multiple boot loops, I finally figured out which files I could add on and still be able to use my phone.
What I did was installed the flash version that I assume everyone already (if not the link is below) has then copied the extra files into the directories listed using the root browser in Rom Toolbox. doesn't have to be Rom Toolbox but you do need to bee in the root folder to get to the system folder.
Trust me, don't just copy and paste unless you want the boot loop. You'll have to copy the files within the folder and place them into the designated folders, unless that folder doesn't exist. Each folder in the zip is labled by the corresponding system folder.
Once again, I can not take credit for either one and can not gaurantee that it won't brick your phone. I'm just the messenger here.
I can only speak for myself but I did notice a difference in the bass on PowerAmp. Now the Pop preset seems to be all I need.

Once again, don't copy and past the folders unless they are not already in there like the Framwork folder. Also keep in mind that some folders have sub folders.
Let me know how it works out for you.
So what exactly is added that hasn't been released? Never found that part in the thread.
I noticed the app and framework folders. They were not in the flash version I've been using. There were also additional files in the other folders as well. Too many to name. It's a small zip file so you can take a look. I'm not a programmer so I really can't tell you much about them besides I added them and noticed a difference.

But you have reminded me to say, if your asked to overwrite existing files say no. But I believe the files uploaded are strictly the missing. At least that was the case for me.
If any more experienced members have time, please take a look at the files so we can know if they're actually needed. I dint think the app folder is needed but I still added it since it wasn't there

Here is a link back to the orig thread where I found the extra files. Sorry for not properly giving credit earlier but I couldn't remember where I downloaded them from. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1525226

MIUI Theme problem. Reverting back to default.

Hola guys. To all of you. Particularly the ones who are familiar with MIUI. I will just stick to the point. If you ARE familiar with miui then you must have come across those flashy themes. You must also have found out the way to bypass the infamous theme policy WSM tools and Xposed and all. But I recently started taking interest in those flashy themes. You know that once you download a theme from the default Themes app the mtz file starts getting downloaded and as soon as the downloading has finished it gets unpacked into bits (com.android.contacts, com.miui.home, icons, lock_wallpaper, locksreen and so on) and gets copied to the MIUI folder in main storage and again into data/system/theme. This is the first problem. I can't copy the whole mtz file to a safe place because it gets unpacked as soon as it has been downloaded which is basically a zip file containing several other zip files that is, the 'bits' I was talking about. Second thing. the default themes app does not recognize mtz files downloaded from the official miui themes website. It declares them as third party themes. What I did was, took some of those 'bits' and replaced some XML files inside them and some png elements and put them back into data/system/theme. But miui has a way to prevent this from happening. As soon as it detects a modified file present in data/system/theme it reverts back to the default plain theme by deleting all files from data/system/theme. My guess is it keeps checking out verifying in regular intervals the checksums that it must have generated earlier. The same thing happens if I just replace a bit in the mentioned directory with a bit from another theme. So my questions are:
1. Is there a way to preserve the mtz file downloaded from within the default Themes app as a whole mtz file?
2. Can I make changes to just the Themes app so that it would apply any mtz file?
3. Is there a way to prevent miui from continuously checking or verifying the checksums that it has generated? (just a guess but I reckon thats what it actually does) because for an hour or so after replacing or modifying the 'bits' everything works fine but the reverting process takes place in an hour or so.
Thats all folks! jk. Any help or suggestion would be really appreciated because I think a thread like this was long since needed here. And dont talk about visiting MIUI's official forums. Most of the guys there don't know half the things that is really worth discussing. Thank you guys.
note- dont want to use WSM tools nor can I find one for miui7.
note2- if I change the permissions of the folder (data/system/theme) to 444 allowing READ permissions only, the phone would just reboot without warning and continue to reboot until the permissions are changed back to normal (755).
