Cool little tip/trick - Nexus 4 General

Don't think this has been mentioned before but I discovered another way to access the quick settings screen on the Nexus 4.
When you pull down the notification drawer, swipe the bottom lip of the pull down window right below the carrier's name to the left or right and it'll take you to the quick settings menu.
I think this is a better and faster way to access it intead of hitting the upper tab. It feels more natural to swipe the lower portion of the screen since your finger is already dragging down the screen

Thanks. But I'm unable to do the same. Please post a screenshot/video if possible.

OR, you can just swipe your notifications window down with two fingers, and not have to hit anything at all.

Doesn't seem to work for me on PA. Swiping with two fingers is much faster, but in PA there's also a setting to allow you to swipe down from the right side (where all of the signal and battery icons are) to access settings and anywhere else on the status bar to get to notifications.

That's on cyanogenmod and any other ROM that uses cyanogen mods source...

PA doesn't use cm source anymore. Its built from aosp

It's hard to do that with just one hand though

Just tried it and it works.. Im on Xylon
You have to open the notification bar all the way to the bottom and then swipe.. Doesnt work half way down the screen

Don't work on stock
Btw i found that long pressing on power off will allow you to reboot on safe mod

Yes but PA uses some of CM mods

OR
get Power Toggles

Does work but pretty much useless. I just have mine configured to swipe left or right corner with one finger

That's actually pretty cool.. I like it! Thanks op. I'm on rasbeanjelly BTW..

I have PA and I could not replicate.
However, if you just tap the blue bar below the carrier name with another finger it will switch to the quick settings.

Yes the only trick i know is swipe from status bar with two fingers and it will go to quick setting.

YouTube app PA Pie

Has anyone had the problem on YouTube or when watching a video with pie enabled.
When you try to go to home or back or something its a little tricky to not move the video bar when you really want the pie controls.
Would it not be better if somehow we could move the YouTube video bar to the top of the screen instead of the bottom?
Not really sure how we could do this. Do you think it would be a hard mod to do?

I like it at the bottom though :/ I have apktool all set up. Framework and and system ui added. Youtube.apk decompiled. Can anyone point me in the right direction of what I need to edit to make this happen?

I'm using LMT Pie and I have it active on the bottom and right side of the screen.
So when I'm on YouTube or any other video app I just use the right side of the screen instead of the bottom. See screen cap.

You can move the pie on the fly. If you got your pie pinned to certain spot ( meaning it stays where it is regardless of the screen orientation) just turn your phone over. Pie will then go to the top and and your YouTube bar will be at the bottom.

[Q] One click to launch Quick Toggles in HTC One running 4.2.2 ?

I have just updated to 4.2.2 in my HTC One. I found the Quick Settings is very useful when I am going to toggle settings like WiFi, Bluetooth, LTE, Air Plane mode etc.
But it is very stupid to use 2-fingers pulling down the Quick Toggles directly, especially I am using my phone with one hand only. Pull the the Notification Bar and then press the button upper right to launch the Quick Settings is also slow and inconvenience.
I know Nova Launcher has got a shortcut to pop up the Quick Settings instantly, but I really want to have the original Sense Launcher. Is that any app or widget can launch the Quick Toggles page as a shortcut???
P.S. My phone has not yet rooted... I hope for a non-rooted solution.
I'm actually curious about this as well. I don't have 4.2.2 yet, but from what I've seen, I don't think that I'll like having to either use 2 fingers or pull down the menu and select the secondary menu. I'm currently using the Quick Toggles app from Google Play, and it does the job, but it would be great to just use the stock feature.

[Q] VS980 status bar date and time

Is there any way to disable this? I keep double tapping my status bar to turn off my screen and it opens up my date and time every time. This is the date and time on the left side of my status bar when I pulldown.
This is new with kitkat, I never had this date and time before the OTA today.

Why are you pulling it down before the double tap? Tap on the bar when the curtain is closed to turn the screen off.

It doesn't matter if I pull down or not that was simply to illustrate where it is on the screen. It happens if I double tap anywhere on the left side of the screen; which is the side I usually do.
Kitkat changed the way my status bar pulldown works as well; it's all ugly now. Any fixes besides flashing another rom?

Double tap faster... just thoroughly tested this. If done slow, depending on side, it can pull settings or time. If done fast, turns off. It has to be tapped pretty slow to pull up menus...

Nav bar problems

Am I the only one having problems with the Nav bar when the keyboard is on? Like if I am on a screen to type and I want to back out and I swipe up for the nav bar but my keyboard comes up? So I have to hit it a couple of times.
Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
I think it's because I moved the back button to the left maybe.

Nope that's not it I changed it back. Guess I am just going to have to get use to swiping up further down to get the nav bar to come up.

I noticed this too - and it wasn't like that on my S8+
I think the time the nav bar remains after pressing the back button is too short, causing problems in apps that have buttons at the bottom like Facebook (damn gif button!), Messages, Relay Pro, etc
Wasn't like that on the S8+ because the nav bar hung there for a half second longer allowing me to back out all the way before disappearing.
I was going to make a thread about this, but you beat me to it. Rather annoying honestly

Damn I thought i was the only one. Hope they do something about it.
I'm having issues too. Especially in BlueMail where the delete email button is right where you hard press for home. The hard press always goes home... but simultaneously deletes the email I was reading. Was getting so confused when I couldn't find emails I was sure I'd read!
If the nav bar is locked open its fine as its squishes the screen up, but its tedious constatly locking and unlocking it. A feature to lock the nav bar on a per app basis would be awesome!

New features

Just got the note 8 yesterday and been messing around with it. I'm coming from the Note4 with Note7 software. I think I have a pretty decent setup. I'm taking advantage of the always on screen. I use it like a lock screen. So I disabled the lock screen. I long-press the home screen to unlock the phone its pretty awesome. Or double tap the notifications to go directly to them, without swiping again.
I wanted to create this discussion so ppl can share their shortcuts and little efficiencies so everybody can enjoy them.

Update: So I lied I assumed there would be notifications on the AOD screen with the lockscreen off but unfortunately there are no more notifications on AOD without the lock screen that's silly
Update, Update: there is a setting in the display>navigation bar settings that bypasses the lock screen on a long press!!!

I like it a lot but in my opinion the curve screen does not improve anything and is unnecessary, it just looks good. Typing on it takes getting used to. The q & p keys are on the edge and it's a little weird to press them and long press them.
The phone was super hard to handle with one hand without the Samsung military grade rugged case. It's a long phone. With the case it's thicker and more manageable. Having the case on it also makes it harder to touch the edge of the screen by accident when using one hand.
Really not a fan of the curve screen as you can see lol. But other than that the phone is perfect.
I wish they had an option to disable the edges or something.
You planning on getting it?

I ordered one because I had the Note 7 and they offered the discount. It’s supposed to be delivered 9/12 and I was using the S8 Plus at one point. The Note 7 was the first time I used the pen extensively, so I wanted to try it again.

Click on recent button, long press the app of choice, and drag it in the pop-up window square to make the app a pop up window quickly. Or you can enable the multi-window setting to diagonal swipe from the top right of the screen to make the app a pop up window.
In the sound settings you can choose apps to default to a specific output channel. I find this useful for using Google maps while playing music. I have maps defaulting to phones speakers. I think it is working lol but it still lowers the music volume when maps is talking. It doesn't seem to blast the annoying gps voice over my music that I was playing loud.[emoji108]

Sweet ! Have fun ! It's such a dope phone. I think the new UI hit the sweet spot. I'm not sure what the S8 is like but I assume it is very similar. The navigation bar looks sick. The toggles have no text [emoji7]. Ahhh it's the little things in life lol
Also I'm looking into trying this very soon to make the nav bar always black

That's a feature that was available via the much more feature-rich Action Memo that was included with S Note on pre-N7 models. So while it's a new feature from the perspective that it's a new app, it's a crappy app in comparison.

I didn't have the Note 7, only the S8+, but I do not recall if this feature (below) was on the S8+ or a previous device.
While in the app drawer, and I scrolled up to the top of the list, I then swipe within the drawer downward (but not from the top) and a popup comes up showing me a list of apps that were are frequently used, recently used and those that were new/updated. Pretty cool.
I had a note 7 last year and I am coming from a s7 edge so I'm sure I have some new things to learn as well
Hey I have a question for the Note 8 owners here. I read earlier last week that you could touch and swipe left/right the home button when its hidden to go back / activate recent, and then regular force touch to go home. Is this a legit gesture, or is there an app that can enable such a thing?
I would absolutely love if I could ditch the nav bar entirely and get DAT space.

Np happy to help!
Also!!
"Nav bar Apps" in the play store let's you apply a static color to your nav bar in every app! There is a flash of white when it launches an app where it is supposed to be white but I dont mind that. It looks like the app can do other things but I just wanted to make it black at all times! Exactly what I wanted.
If you go into the settings you can change the color change animation to fade. That is the smoothest animation with barely any white flash.
Alsoo
My OP setup is obsolete!!! There is a setting in in the display>navigation bar settings. See picture

Substratum with the paid samsung addon works with the paid swift dark and black themes. Got Maps, YouTube, gmail, Instagram, Google Play, Chrome themed successfully. Not sure what else it can do I gotta play. I also was able to use "status bar icons for samsung" free app from the playstore to change the nav bar icons but I'm in love with the stock nav bar black all the time. I reverted.
