[Q]can i really use X8 without screen protector? - XPERIA X8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i am never touched the original layer of the screen or digitizer since i bought X8, because i am using my
X8 with Screen protector from the first day i bought it,and as the Screen protector is bit cheap(hard to get H-quality)
and feels sometime harder to touch and move my finger across the screen because of the
plastic screen protector that stops my finger from moving when put force little bit.(really annoying and cancel my great mood sometimes)
i wondering that why our X8 screen is not scratch resistant and surprised when i
checked phone sites like GSMarena and when seeing our X8 specs
it says that our X8 has Scratch-resistant glass. but i afraid that i accidentally could scratch
my X8's screen without using S-Ps.
SINGLE SCRATCH COULD SPOILS OUR ENTIRE USING EXPERIENCE OF THE X8
any suggestion and used experience could help me alot. Thanks in ADVANCE
sorry for my bad english.

I would recommend you to use a screen guard but not the original one..
Its crap..
I bet you can get a good quality screen guard at the price of about 2 USD..
And about gsmarena.
Don't trust them..
They themselves don't know what they write..

I used screen without protector for a week(for testing if its unscratchable!) , & its scratched a little .so its not like gorilla glasses.(I was really taking care of phone & it scratched by my finger & nail!!!!)
Screen quality is PERFECT without screen protector !
#now using protector which hides(or covers) the scratched surfaces so its ok now
This is JAY-Z-S

I'm currently not using any from 2 months & it's fine

ohh i see ,but most of the specification in gsmarena are true.
but i hate using a screen protector because it spoils our experience and also
even using high quality one it will affect the viewing of the display and the way we interact with it

By the way, I use a phone case instead of using a screen protector, and the phone has only one scratch which it got when I hadn't a phone case yet.

I never used screen protector and i never faced any problem. It is true that my phone has some minor scratches but it doesn't affect user experience in any way, you can only see them when sreen is off.
And judging from my use, x8 has Scratch-resistant glass. lol
Edit: I just remembered that once i tried to scratch it with a knife and it didn't do a thing, i'm not maniac i was just testing it, and i have to admit that i didn't pushed too much but i pushed it.

Spot on. Mine has had enough chances to get completely scratched and it hasn't, only minor scratches that aren't visible when the screen is on. Compared to my sister's LG it's very tough glass.

Possible minor scratches that don't affect user experience at all. But, if you are so obsessed about scraches why don't you just buy a new screen protector that will not affect your touching

i'm not using any screen protectors on my w8 and can't see any scratches, btw you can buy anti-fingerprint protector, it helps a litter bit but gives your screen some blur lol

Screen Protector Required?

Hi, I been using screen protectors for my x8. However in gsmarena it says the following about the x8:

Its a total lie.
Our phone has Scratch-resist surface, but not a scratch-resist screen.
I would definitely recommend one. I haven't used a screen protector, got a big scratch and really regret not having used one.
Buy one in the beginning and save being furious after the first big scratch

I dont understand, whAT DOES the "scratch resistant screen" supposed to mean?
definitely use a screen protector! the x8 screen is hardly scratch resistent at all. just put it in a bag together with some keys and you will end up ruining your beautiful screen.

Well, everyone knows that puting a phone freely inside a bag plus keys and other stuff is a bad idea. Even if you had a screen protector, you probably had to end up buying another because they can also get scratches

Actually an operator in my country gave away in the past some protectors that looked just like condoms but with no lub. It was mainly to take the phone to the beach (with a knot on the condom).

I think it's some type of mistake on Gsmarena site about x8's scratch resistant display. Because some people claimed, that when they removed the screen protector because of this arcticle , they experienced scratches later anyway.
I have used x8 before recently changed to xperia active.i myself haven't test something like that video.
On the specification says :
Scratch resistant
Yes it's scratch resistant
But it's not scratch proof right
Xperia active screen is using ashahi's dragontrail mineral glass

I don't, I use to have one. I kept on scratching the protector so i just took it off and now their is not a single scratch!

Yea i also have a silicone case. It saved my phone once
I'm using soft silicone (eg rubber) case and screen protector film too.
Saved my phone many times, and it doesn't ruin the touch responsiveness of the phone.

I have a silicon case but i never use it... (it gathers dust. The phone looks better even with 1000 marks on it)
My phone has many marks, i have drop it many times... but it just do not die! The phone hits the floor, the back cover gets of, the battery is jealous and gets off too... but the phone works fine!!!!
I also own a small scratch on my screen because i was so stupid to test if a battery works as a stylus. The stylus worked but the battery lived me a scratch, i still can't understand how that happened... (i am very suspicious about the electromagnetic fields around it, but after a small search i found out a small scratchy thing on the battery)
My advice, keep your phone as it is. Enjoy it, a small mark will not destroy your life. Just b careful with batteries (they play dirty).

i have a screen protector it was included in the box and i also bought a generic black silicon case
I use a Neoprene Pouch.
It saved my phone's life on a few occasions. Not to mention protecting it from scratching when my car keys and phone are in my pants pocket together.
i used the protection which was applied from the start on my X8 and it had no scratches until i removed it because it was old.
Not it doesn't look good anymore, so for all who don't use protection and want to keep their X8 a while longer use one !
I'm gonna buy new phone soon so i don't care at all about my X8 =P

Warning - display polish
Hi all..
This is a warning!!
Products such as Displex Display Polish (Scratch Remover) will permanently damage your screen if you try them.. Please don't (even just to see what happens).
These acrylic polishes are not made for touchscreen devices.
They will in fact make big scores and scratches appear on your screen just like a scouring pad would do..
Now, back on topic, I use a screen protector. They are great and leave a smooth glossy finish.
You wouldn't know it was there. They are a must-have.
Cheers,

typical sony ericsson. my w810i did this too. i hate this silicon thing too. but i have a foil on my x8, but it has many scratchs (my evo 3d doesnt need on cause of gorilla glass;-)).
I have heard that screen protectors result into accumulation of moisture between the phone screen and the protective layer. This damages the screen.
Not sure if that is true.

I don't know what toothpaste you were using but when i did this a few weeks back on my archos 101 (g8) it left some smears that took a while to go... (although the scratch has gone )
how much money you spend if its bigger scratch ?
u need it bro, the screen protector. trust me.
I got my galaxy from my elder bro, without screen protector :'/
and I'd say toothpaste makes no effect however technically you do. Better change display, Myself thinking about changing display but saving bucks for it.
using toothpaste to clear up your scratches is a total nonsense. btw which toothpaste did you use??? LOL!!!
I've been told that Brasso works, ya know the brass polish, haven't tried it tho so no idea if it works or not.
Scratches can't be removed.
And toothpaste definitely never works. Trust me I've used all methods mentioned over internet like using toothpaste, grease, shampoo. Some even suggested using banana peels. None of them works.
The only solution is get a new good scratch guard. Thicker the better. :good:
Use a screen protector to not scratch it anymore.

Question about removing Xperia Z's anti-shatter film

Hi guys, just curious about this, I would like to remove the front screen protector of Xperia Z to get rid of the Sony logo (not hate it put prefer the front to be all black). Would this affect the phone's water resistant feature?
Have anyone tried this yet?
Besides, is the oleophobic coating of the glass affected? From the video below I think there's something wrong with his phone, the reflection looks pixelated

the screen have little to no oleophobic feature, your best bet is to buy some rain-x spray it on there or buy another screen protector that have oleophobic property.
I'd leave it alone for the simple reason you'll regret it. I don't see how you could remove it, you can cover it over in some way but it's not going to look good and would be noticeable from certain angles.

IT WILL SCRATCH.
IT WILL BREAK AND IT WILL SCRATCH.
My previous xperia z had antishatter removed and the screen scratched from a sand particle hidden in my microfibre cloth, if you decide or have taken of antishatter film, put on a screen protector as soon as you can. Preferably you should put on a good quality screen protector onto antishatter film. That way you will have constant new looking phone.
Which is what I've done with my NEW Xperia z.
after taking off antishatter layer on my first phone, AIthough i was trying to convince myself that it feels better, and looks better debranded,
Everytime the beautiful nostalgic sony ad came on, and the guy took out his xperia z to take a picture of his girlfriend covered in courfull dry paint. And then washed his xperia z afterwards showing off that beautiful sony logo. My heart would sink ,as I knew my phone would never look like that ever again.
