Hi guys I've come from a note 2 and enjoying the Xperia z but I have a chance to get a note 2 back and I'm tempted I miss the volume of the note speaker and even the earphone volume is louder I was woundering if you guys think I'm stupid maybe switching back to a note 2 :silly: there also us the screen do you guys think the screen on the note 2 was better
I know I'm going to get mixed views been posted on the Xperia forum but just asking any note 2 users who have now got the Xperia z what there thoughts are
Thanks guys
Nobody will think you're stupid - it's your choice. For me Note 2 is a "no go" device, I've had it, I loved it, but due to sudden death issues, defective eMMC chips, broken gpu drivers ( you'll never get proper CM on it, unfortunately ) and abysmal build quality ( the whole device squeeks when squeezed in hand, back cover bends under your fingers... ) I will never switch to Note again, even though I loved the big screen.
You need to ask yourself a question: do you want better quality, different design and better software/hardware ( according to devs like Entropy or Codeworkx ) - or a 0.3" larger screen, better battery life and a bit louder loudspeaker.
I won't comment on the screen because comparing LCD to AMOLED is pointless. XZ uses 1080p, has superior brightness and sun visibility, but AMOLED has better colours and viewing angles - so you have to decide for yourself.

Thanks ya I feel that the Xperia z has a nice screen the girlfriend has the HTC one and I feel it's better then thank to be honest just remember the note 2 screen been so vivid and I watch a lot of YouTube so just didn't know which one would be best to have in the long run lol
so it's true that the Xperia has better hardware and software over the note 2 also does the Xperia have a better audio chip for headphones
thanks
That's the thing with AMOLED displays - they're amazingly vivid. For many people they're actually too vivid, but that's personal.
Hardware on XZ is better because it's been proven again and again that Qualcomm Snapdragon is superior to Samsung's Exynos in many ways - especially in the software support. Sony shares all the stuff devs need to fully support their hardware - Samsung on the other hand... well, let's just say they're not so keen on that.
Thanks Ya think I might end up staying with my Xperia I'll have a look round at upping the volume on the headphones part I know the speaker is a no go and going to get some better headphones too
How it the audio chip in the Xperia is it just as good as the one in the note 2
For me the audio chip has better quality than Note 2's, but I remember it from CM and it was constantly broken so I might have a bad perspective there The volume problem is most likely due to EX300 headphones - they have quite high independence value, therefore are not so loud. Try any other headset, you'll notice the volume will improve greatly. I still use EX300 cause I love the quality.
My personal opinion: stick with XZ

Just thought I'd start this thread as I think the Xperia Z may be being discontinued, at least for the time being.
I bought a new Xperia Z handset in May. I made a clear choice between this and the Samsung S4, mainly for two reasons. The first being the overall design. It looks a much nicer/sexier phone. The second being the water resistance. I use the phone in the bath and I go fishing a lot. Seemed an obvious choice really.
When I first started using the phone, everything worked perfectly fine and I was very happy with my purchase. Except for one thing. I was experiencing the WiFi drop out problem. If I was in my living room (where my WiFi router is) it connected without issue. If I tried in other rooms, I would get a low connection and it would drop in and out. This bug has been well documented over several forums (without any response from Sony unsurprisingly), so I was a little reassured that it was not my phone specific issue, and a lot of people stating that it will likely be resolved with firmware updated. Two updates later and I was still having the issue.
I decided to take the phone back to Argos (where I purchased it) to see if I could get a replacement and hope that it would not have the issue. They were quite happy to replace it on the grounds that it is a faulty phone, however they didn't have any in at this particular store. The guy done a search and found one (and only one) in a store some 50 miles away. I asked if they could order one in for me, so he had a look and he said they can no longer get any. I thought this was very odd. A store chain the size of Argos and they can no longer get a top of the range phone only released 6 months or so ago? I asked if they knew a reason why, he said he didn't but if the error I'm experiencing is common and they have had a load returned then Argos may have chosen to no longer stock them.
This does not bode well for Sony at all. If Argos are taking this stance then I would not be surprised to see other outlets do the same.
I was left with a choice to either carry on with the phone and hope that at some point in the future the bug will be resolved, downgrade to another model, get my money back or pay the extra and get an S4. I decided to go with the S4, a decision I was not entirely happy with as, other than the WiFi bug, I was very happy with the Xperia Z, but I could not continue getting frustrated with the WiFi dropping out.
For those interested in the differences between the two phones, from an end users perspective and not a techno guru reviewer, there are a lot of similarities between the two. There are obviously pros and cons for each. The S4 is a lot lighter, and the external speaker is fantastic. It's design is a little uglier and the rear case is very slippery. The Xperia Z just looks nicer, looks less like a toy. They're just as responsive as each other, both take great photos/videos. The Xperia Z keyboard is much better than the S4, but that may be me needing to get used to it.
Given the choice, if the WiFi problem wasn't prevalent, I would definitely have the Xperia Z back. Hopefully Sony will pull there socks up.
maybe the rumor about a refresh with S800 processor and triluminos screen is true then.
Congrats on your new S4...

xperia z is not discontinued (confirmed with sony executive), funny you judged that. though x-reality for mobile is coming for xperia z

i think this SteveJustice is probably a samsung bot desperately to attract sales as clearly sony is dominating and samsung s4 having a hard time getting sales now.

What? I gave pros and cons for both devices, and clearly stated that had I not had the problems with my Xperia Z then I would still have it. Not to mention I went to the store to get a replacement, not a different phone.
Even if the phone isn't being discontinued, it still begs the question as to why Argos are not getting any more in.
And where did you speak to this Sony executive by the way? Just happened to be passing in the street?
I have both the S4 and Xperia Z and your right they are very similar to each other and both have their pros and cons and let me just give a short of what I think are cons of the xperia Z compared to the S4 and funnily enough they are mostly to do with volume.
The Z speaker is lower in volume than s4, headphone volume is slightly lower and so is earpiece volume, S4 is a bit clearer aswell in earpiece, Z wifi is weaker and obviously due to a smaller battery, battery doesn't last as long. Camera/video I would say the S4 edges it but not by much
The Z is better to look at and and im sorry all those saying the screen on the Z is rubbish need to go to their opticians as the screen on the Z looks much sharper and better looking than the S4, not as good as the one on the HTC One but not far off, also the Z looks better than the S4 not that the S4 is ugly as I love the look of the S4 too, the Zs UI and keyboard etc are all better, the Z is just as smooth as the s4 if not smoother. TBH if the speaker was louder, earpiece was louder and audio volume was louder and wifi signal strength was stronger I would say the Z is the best phone on the market atm. The Z has restored my faith in sony as when I had the xperia S and T last year I wasn't happy atall.

I have a XZ and the wife a S4 and tbh there isn't much between the two.
Screen: Alot of song and dance is made about the samoled 1080p panel, and its obvious why the blacks are amazing but that's at the cost of the whites which are quite common on webpages (xz wins in whites). The viewing angles are better on the S4 although not as much as the reviews seemed to make out, one area where the XZ is better is the visibility in sunlight.
Winner: Close call id give it to the S4 sometimes colours seem a bit too saturated with XZ but not much in it overall.
Sound: The loudspeaker on the S4 rapes the XZ due to the XZ's waterproof ability. In call is slightly louder on the S4 but not by much, the S3 was amazing for in call volume.
Winner: S4 by a mile
Camera: Both use the same chip but different software is implemented and some hardware is different I believe (im no expert so could be wrong).
Anyway the XZ originally was a bit slow but with the latest update is on par with the S4 if not better, just took two pictures (night here in England) and the XZ was clearly better (both on auto, flash off). (uploaded both pics to pc for analysis)
Winner: Close call was about to say the XZ due to my rather short samples but im not a expert and reviewers praise the S4 so Id say a draw.
Battery: Both phones used differently so hard to compare. Depends on alot of variables such as area used, syncs, etc. I can't do a proper review of it but my amateur opinion says the S4 is better, more screen time but that could be because the wife is mostly on wifi at home. Anyway there's not a great deal if the S4 is better its not by more then 10%,
Winner: S4
Design: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder so not much too say there, material wise though the XZ is better and it feels more solid. The S4 has the advantage of removable battery and is more comfortable to use in the hand. Then again the XZ is dust and water proof and has soft keys.
Winner: XZ
Software: Id say stock xperia is definitely better then stock touchwiz based on design but then again that's user preference. I love the smart stay feature in touchwiz though and the vibrate when you pick up for messages/put phone to head to call from messages.
Xperia has the Bravia Engine though and as we mostly view photos on our phone these days that's a neat trick. Overall both are running 4.22 and rock solid so not much in it.
Winner: Draw.
Overall score: S4 wins 3. XZ 1. And 2 draws.
Conclusion: Both great phones and not much too seperate them, go check them out in store before you buy either and see which one you prefer. At the same time check out the HTC One...

Great honest comparison mate
You forgot performance , s4 wins here thx to s600 ( specifically gaming )
Battery is much better since s4 gets average 4:30/5 hrs screen time. While xz barely makes it 3:30.
Anyway these 2 vs one are pretty much weaker in every aspect.
Speakers ate better and louder then on both
Headphones are also better with more quality then on both , also louder.
Screen is better by much then on both. ( tho amoled has better blacks ) also better viewing angle , brighter , and better sunlight visibility.
System speed is much better then on both. ( even faster then n4 on 4.3 )
Design .. I'd say only xz and one are pretty , I'd call this one personal preference.
Build quality .. I guess we agree aluminum is more premium ( + serves as a heat sink so one is much cooler then both )
Camera is actually better then on xz after the recent updates both in day light and dark , also the camera is much snappier then both , as for video neither comes close to one thx to the ois and hdr mics
Speaker for calls is also better , again stereo and it's very loud and clear.
Front camera is also better then on both + wide angle
Battery is on par with s4 if not better , at least in my case I perform much better then the cousins s4. , the other cousin with xz usually gets around 2:50/ 3:20 screen time. outside. While my average is 6 hrs screen time with heavier usage .
I guess this would be my 2 cents.
Btw my cousins have s4 and xz while my friend has n4 , pretty much surrounded with mobile geeks lol. So this comes from the tests I made with them , if you guys need some screen shots , or pic samples lemme know.

Having had the HTC one earlier in the year, three things i disagree on are
1) audio is actually better on the s4, but the HTC one is louder
2) battery life on HTC is not better than S4 and i certianly wouldnt call it close either especially if we include standby time though it is better than the xperia z.
3) as for looks i really do not like the fact that the One has the htc sign inbetween the buttons i think thats ugly, i think all three phones look good, if i was to choose an order it would be XZ, S4 then One.
The main reasons for getting the s4 and selling the one was better battery and memory card slot as i ran out of memory on the one and i seriously hope htc change this as 25gb isnt enough. Also while the one is loud i feel it lacks the bass of the s4 and XZ, also i find the custom eqaulizers better than simply beats on or off
Hello people!
The upcoming Friday my contract with my cell company expires so the company in order to convince me to sign a new contract is offering me:
HTC One or Sony XPERIA Z1.
Beeing for 5 years a user of various HTC devices I was pretty happy appart my latest HTC ONE X that spend last summer around 2 months in service changing twice mainboard and battery on warranty.
This last experience made me a bit skeptical about going along with the latest HTC device.
Are you happy with your HTC ONE?
Any significant problems you encountered?
Is the camera as bad on daylight as I read in the various reviews?
Do you think I should go with the ONE or maybe try something new with the Z1?
Thanks in advance for your help and feedback.
Cheers!

Z1. Without a doubt. Use the heck out of it for the 14 days so that you can return it if you don't like it though.
The One has a terrible camera. The Z1 doesn't have OIS, but it's better in almost every other regard unless you're a AL-phile or need stereo sound.
Seriously. There is absolutely no comparison between the One and the Z1. They are two different generations of phone and should be treated as such.
I don't like my One. It's not what it was advertised to be, and I wouldn't recommend anybody buy the H1 in light of recent phone announcements like the Z1 and the N1 and the N3 and the N5 and the G2 and the (?)S5. Wow. Those names doe.

I am not a great pictures fan.
To tell the truth I usually post some in facebook or Instagram but thats just about it.
I was pretty happy with my HTC ONE X camera but I guess the HTC ONE camera is worse from what you are saying.....
I kind of lost you with the AL acronym.
Can you explain what you mean by AL?

Lol, someone is having a bad day?
The fact you are having troubles with your HTC One, does not mean everyone does.
Yes, they are two different phones, but the speed difference is only noticable with really heavy games and benchmarks.
With day-to-day use, a person cannot tell the difference.
A bit more neutral non-biased oppinion;
If you look holding a premium device, that feels like a premium device, you can buy the HTC One.
There is not competition in terms of build quality, not a chance.
I'm a stock Android fan, but HTC has done a REALLY good job with Sense 5 (and an even better one with Sense 5.5).
The Snapdragon 600 will hold easily for the next two years..
I'd try them both, and my suggest, if you do not take the HTC One, take a look at the new Nexus.
Updates from Google, Snapdragon 800 and a nice looking phone (dunno about the build quality though).

Al = Aluminum. And what Justin^^^ said is true. Suddenly, anything not made out of the finest materials feels cheap to me. In terms of premium feel, nothing can beat the One. It strikes all the right chords, and fits just right. And I do a lot of gaming on the One, and I actually DO see some lag, and its noticeable.
I maintain my position on the camera though. If you're looking for a camera that can capture any detail beyond the "with so and so at so and so", look elsewhere. But for just social media, this camera is fine. It won't perform in low light unless you get a perfect unit (unlikely), so don't count on that.
The Z1 has tons of cool stuff like SD, waterproof, dustproof, snapdragon 800, 20.7 MP camera, 3000 mAh battery etc. It comes down to this: do you want a premium feeling phone that performs adequately, or do you want a beast of a phone that looks and feels only slightly worse.
AL = Aluminum, H1 = HTC One, Z1 = Sony Xperia Z1, N1 = Oppo N1, N3 = Samsung Galaxy Note 3, N5 = Nexus 5, G2 = LG G2, S5 = Samsung Galaxy S5.

Lol seriously ?
@ Op
Here small comparison just for you between the two
Soc = Xperia z1
Screen quality = HTC One
Sound via headphones = HTC One
Sound loudness & quality via speaker(s)= HTC - here is definetelly no comparison dual stereo speakers vs mono low quality/loudness speaker ..
Build quality = HTC One .. glass simply isn't better then aluminum
Front facing camera = HTC One
Rear facing camera = i don't know what to say here z1 with current firmware trully sux but i know it'll get better later so i'd say z1
Battery life = HTC One ..
Software = HTC One - The software is miles ahead of z1 and better optimised it's lagg/stutter free
Overall issues with the device are far less then with z1 , with 1 you can only get purple tint camera while z1 has issues pretty much with everything
As for the camera @ Op take a look at this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46539474&postcount=2955
HTC One - camera samples thread -- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2169626&page=296
Xperia z1 - camera samples thread -- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2438859&page=43
Here the whole thread with bunch of photos so take a look a bit before you decide , take a look at z1 samples as well
That's pretty much how the camera works , if this isn't good enough for you and camera is priority for you got with z1
Lastly if you need any more insights about HTC One feel free to PM me i'd be happy to tell you more about it and give you more samples from my own camera if needed from any scenario also answer every question you got about HTC One.

There is a sticky thread on top of this forum that reads "read before posting here". If you did, you would have noticed that we don't allow any comparison threads here for the reasons mentioned there.
So if you have a SPECIFIC question about a SPECIFIC difference between two phones, feel free to start a new thread with it. But please no general "Is the phone good and why?" or "Is the phone better than...."
Cheers
Has anyone reading this ever compared the HTC 10 to either the Sony Xperia X Performance (XP) or the newer Xperia XZ with regards to headphone quality? (Note: The XP & XZ use the SAME audio technology from what I've read/heard).
If so, please tell me about your experience here. Please provide as many details as possible............like what headphones did you use, what genre of music and type of quality (mp3, CD-Quality, Hi-Res, DSD, etc) was selected. Did you use an amp/DAC device in between them (I'm hoping not only b/c that wouldn't tell me which phone was better lol)? When comparing, which one sounded clearer? Had the wider/more expansive soundstage? Handled instrument separation the best? Won out on bass, mids, and highs/treble rendering?? Etc.
I know the 10 will get louder than the XP/XZ b/c of what I've seen in comparisons done by professional reviewers, with the 10 showing to have a higher output voltage. But volume is just ONE component.
I look forward to hearing from you all!
Have not tried the HTC but I use Devon audiophile headphones and sennheiser in ears... Which are the ones in the high end.
The sound is good compared to my old z3 and Samsung s5.
Clean and well balanced sound with nice punch

Hey Hell,
Wait, which phone are you talking about? You said sound is good compared to Z3 and S5. Sound of what? lol
I really just want people to tell me if they've compared the 2 together, or at least within the same month or so. It seems like HTC 10's audio may be the better of two, but not sure. The 10 seems to get more praise on headphone audio than the XP or XZ do, but I'd like "regular people's" opinions too.

Hey RockStar
I have the xp and the sound quality is fine. I don't know whether the HTC can play dsd but the xp does it very well.
I just made a comparison from which phones I have tried, as I dont have the HTC ?

Hey HellRoot,
I have it too and agree, though I really haven't tested it on headphones just on car speakers. On headphones I use a premium & portable in-between amp/DAC device. The Z3 has very good sound but I would say it was at the $200 level vs. amp/DAC or players at that price. When I went up to $300 with the Sony Walkman A17, I felt it was superior to the Z3's sound. So now I don't use the phone anymore on headphones, but these newer phones by LG like the V10 and V20 and also the HTC 10 are getting a high level of praise for their headphone sound quality that I've not seen given to Sony's Xperia phones ever. It just makes me wonder. I'm pretty sure the HTC 10 could match my Oppo device (see link) based on what I've read about it on here. One guy even said he liked it more than the might LG V10's sound overall, and that uses the same DAC as my HA-2 (that link is for HA-2SE, which is slighly newer, but looks the same). Of course, it's not JUST about the DAC, but still. lol
Also, the battery life on the new X series Xperia phones no longer can offer a 2-day battery life, which was standard in the past. IMHO, the 2-day battery life DIED with the Z series. Even on the Sony Mobile site the 2-day battery life selling point has mysteriously vanished from the site on those new phones like our XP. My XP can BARELY make it through one day if I start early enough, and that's WITH Stamina Mode being activated. I'm happy that the camera's improved though, but the cutbacks in battery life & audio quality (having a dedicated DAC with questionable quality and an integrated amp vs. HTC 10's dedicated DAC AND dedicated headphone amp ((dedicated is always better than integrated))) makes me question my purchase a bit. There are still pros to the XP vs. 10, like camera and waterproofing, but HTC has caught up A LOT with the 10 and so I wonder if the 11 will finally make them kings again?
It's the little things too. HTC took the time and cared enough about their customers to get VoLTE (including HD Voice) and Wi-Fi Calling certified with T-Mobile, who is my carrier, on their unlocked phones. Did Sony Mobile bother to do that? Hell no! lol
Battery life is a big deal to me, so where 2 years ago I chose the Z3 over my former One M8, I wonder if in 2017 I may very well go back to HTC? We will see. lol If HTC takes their front fingerprint sensor and integrates it INTO the side Power button the way Sony did, and brings their bottom stereo speaker back to the bottom front where it belongs, that choice will be even MORE difficult to make.
Howdy.
I have the XP and the M9 and I miss the volume of the M9 compared to the XP. I mainly listen to music from my phone when I'm in the car, streaming from [email protected] On the M9 I usually had the volume on the stereo set to 30-35 for LOUD, but on the XP, I'm up to 40 to get the basic kick. I can still hear myself talk and that tells me that the volume is too low.
I'm seriously thinking of getting the HTC 10 as there are numerous issues with my XP, as can be seen on different threads here on XDA and on the Sony forums as well. I'm not happy with this phone and I miss HTC
Cheers.

Hi keke,
Thanks for posting your opinion. Even though your post was on the M9 and not the 10, I still agree that based on what I'd read, the HTC flagship phones have been and still do get louder than the Xperia phones can. For me it's a concern on headphones b/c I don't want it DEAFENINGLY loud, but loud enough when I need it. So I feel ya there.
Well even though it's off-topic, what are the issues you're having with the XP? Lemme know.
Perhaps then you should just get the HTC 10? It is currently on sale for $150 off if you buy it from the HTC.com site by Monday 8:59PM PST. 3 out of the 4 colors are available to buy now; the 4th being Topaz Gold, but since the Camellia Red was not in stock either until today, there's a chance they may get more before the sale ends. But if you wanted a different color, then there's nothing stopping you. (Note: Red and Gold are only available if you buy the unlocked version, which IS certified for VoLTE ((including HD Voice) and Wi-Fi Calling with T-Mobile, which is my carrier. I'd only get the unlocked one because it offers faster updates than the carrier ones will.) You can buy it and pay it off at checkout, or click on "PayPal Credit" in checkout to get 6 mos to pay it off interest-free (after quick credit check). Buying it from the site gets you that 1-year Uh-Oh Protection too. After that if you wanna keep it longer, look into private phone insurance like I got for my int'l XP through either Square Trade or the one I chose, Worth Ave. Group.
Hi
I've compared xp to x and z3 and really xp has the best source hardware I've ever heard from phone - I'm a little bit na audiophile and I have few mobile and home DAC/amp's. So the xp has almost identical sound characteristic compared to HEGEL SUPER (with in-ear headphones you cannot hear any differences)
-tested with hifiman songbird, sennheiser momentum iem, apple iem, and many other $100 pricetag iems

but I'm so not happy with xp hardware and software :
horrible soft: strange bahavior of ear distance sensor, rotate sensor and some few other issues
hardware: vibration engine is very loud (when vibrate mode is on its so loud that it cannot be discrete) and ****ty back panel painting/cating - I'm carying mine xp in oryginal sony "invisible back cover" and when something get beside phone and cover - it makes white-ish marks
AND little dot/tints on display (not very big but they are there!!!)
I'm feel cheeted by sony paying full price in sony centre for xp when they lounching 3 months later XZ model cheeper with on-ear headphones
shame for sony - I had all flagships since xperia S and I'm so so close to leave sony!!!

hi espe,
Thank you for your post!
I see. Yes I myself use the Oppo HA-2 as my mobile amp/DAC currently, and love what it does to the sound. I'm hoping to one day just have a phone like the HTC 10 or LG V10 (or V20, which my cousin just got and said sounds AMAZING vs. his former Note 7) where I won't NEED an amp/DAC anymore. I think your take on the XP/X/Z3 comparison is a good one. I myself feel like Sony, in comparison with their competition, have slipped back a notch or two compared to where they were 2 years ago. 2 years ago, the HTC One M8 (which I used to have right before I got my old Z3) was great sounding, but I don't know if it had the sheer weight & power vs. the competition at the time as HTC does now with the 10 over the competition of today. 2 years ago, LG's phones' audio quality was considered a big joke, even worse than Samsung's according to some credible people. Then last year they came out with the V10 and just now V20, and they both are considered OUTSTANDING! So I think that even though the XP may sound better than the Z3 (I honestly do believe you on that front), they still aren't "on top" anymore like they were 2 years ago.
I remember I'd bought the $200 iBasso DX50 and compared it to my Z3 at the time. Amazingly, I could hear no difference in sound quality. That was kind of a shock to me, but an impressive one in Sony's favor. I then returned the DX50 and bought the $300 Sony Walkman A17. It was only THEN that I could hear a difference in quality in favor of the Walkman. But wow, $300! I can't say 100% for sure, but I'm prob 98-99% sure that the V10, V20, and HTC 10 all sound as good as my Walkman did, if not better? 2 years ago I never read any reviews (or AS many) that had such a POSITIVE reaction to the sound quality of any smartphone like I do now for HTC & LG. Even the Z3 I don't remember creating such a buzz, and Sony was even at the time promoting "Hi-Res" very much so. Now maybe because they did that it just took time for most reviewers to notice, but that's a big "maybe". I think it's more likely based on what I've read about the 10's audio prowess and even V10 & V20's that simply put, the bar has been raised significantly, and not by Sony. I even created not one but two threads on the Hi-Fi site "Head-Fi.com" about this topic. Feel free to read and comment on them if you wish.
I tend to stay away from earphones myself as I am not convinced they can offer the same "big sound" that headphones can. I used to have a $30 pair of V-Moda earphones and thought I was cool. My, how times have changed since 2 years ago. lol After loving the incredible $150-$200 AKG K550 (over several other more expensive headphones) for a long time, I just recently switched to the slightly better/clearer/more portable $299 Bang & Olufsen 2nd Generation H6 headphones. If you're looking for headphones within the under $500 range, I could not suggest any better options than the K550/K550 MK II (same sound signature) or the 2nd Gen H6. They both wipe the FLOOR with even some popular $400 headphones.
Not sure on the first several issues you mentioned, aside from the auto-rotate issue I've been having since that last mini update. I read through 2 different threads on here about it, but there doesn't seem to be a fix yet. I'm HOPING that the Nougat update we're ALL about to get on our XPs literally any day now will include a fix for that. It is annoying b/c once it kicks in after a restart (normally within a day or less), you can't make any pics or videos fullscreen without a reboot, and it ALSO messes with Smart Call Handling too. But wait, you see dots/tints on the display? Sounds to me like you may have gotten a faulty phone. I already returned my first XP b/c it was overheating BIG time, and another issue too I think was occurring on it. My newer one works much better. I would suggest replacing it if you can. Display issues are very hard to ignore vs. other lesser issues, and I don't know if ANY update could even fix those.
I'm with you there too to a certain point espe. The XP took FOREVER to release (4 mos??!! who does that??). The XZ came out like LESS than a month after it was announced, and has a better (though still crappy IMO) battery life and an improved camera too vs. the XP (though XP's camera is still great overall). But both phones I saw were rated as having the worst battery life and the longest charging times of ALL the 2016 flagship phones. The XP is the worst, and the XZ is a pretty close second. I mean, I too feel cheated b/c Sony always made their "2 Day Battery Life" promise a major selling point, but it is crystal clear to me now that that promise died with the Z series. They don't even mention it on their Sony Mobile site for the X phones anymore like they did in the past. My XP can't even make it through a full day if I start early enough (6am). Even with Stamina Mode on and turning my phone off a few times for a little while, this one day by like 8pm that night I only had 5% left. THAT is some major BS. They need to stop making these batteries so d*mn small. I know people like thin, but people want great battery life even more. A phone is no fun if there's now juice left to keep it running. lol
I see. Yes you're DEF a loyal Sony fan. I have and/or had a ton of Sony products too, but the Z3 was the only other Sony phone I've ever had, and it was my favorite overall vs. the other phones of its time. The battery life was MUCH better too. But since the death of the 2 Day Battery Life promise, the step back in audio, and other issues.......being forced to buy the int'l XP just to get a functioning fingerprint sensor, the super long waits for the phones to be released (and just the inconsistency of all that), the lack of customer care..........I may seriously go back to HTC next year. If the 11 improves its camera over the 10 (Note: the 10 was the first HTC flagship to use a Sony camera sensor, after Sony bought out camera sensor business of the former seller to HTC.......Toshiba.....and the camera got better. Coincidence? I think not. lol), and hopefully they go back to Classic BoomSound (BOTH speakers on the front, where the f'ing belong! lol), and doesn't go "phablet" (big yuck! lol), I will prob leave Sony for good. HTC makes buying their phones easy, no weird long waits, audio is considered louder AND better than Sony's, fingerprint sensors are included ON U.S. versions (b/c they're not too cheap to pay whatever fees for them to be used in the U.S., unlike Sony Mobile), even their unlocked phones will still offer the VoLTE (including HD Voice) and Wi-Fi Calling certification that T-Mobile requires to use them (which again, Sony Mobile is TOO CHEAP to pay for), Uh-Oh Protection, etc (see my last post for more details). Sony Mobile should be sitting on their THRONE here in the U.S. like they do in other countries (or are at least MUCH stronger in those places), but instead, they are cowering away for NO good reason and letting Apple and Samsung continue to rule over us with phones that overall are very good, but still not as great as Sony's Xperia phones once were and still kinda are. They need to grow some BALLS, and fast! But will they? Doesn't look like it.
hey Rockstar2005
You mentioned wifi signal weakness - goddamn ****ty performance of it, and hell yeah it's worst ever wifi module they implemented in xperia phone ever. Does't reconnect propertly or does it occasionaly. We can just talking and sony won't do anything with it. Overall xperias always been 90% best in everything for sure (body, photo, audio, and performance) - balanced 90% perfection of everything - but wait a moment ...sony goes terrible way by loosing Z series - every aspects should be a step forward but something went wrong and we have pretty phone without even middle-end functionality. Even huawei makes in my country huge expansion by giving good phones and excellent service / customer care. And sony just pissing on us (buy our **** and leave us alone ...but but wait come back and buy this **** again) I'm confused for waiting 2 weeks for ****ty reputated service opinion. Last one I've sent xperua Z ultra three times until they replaced the motherboard for me. I can bet on it - they will sent me not touched phone with eventualy reloaded rom.
sorry for my english...
Espe,
That's fine. I was able to understand pretty much everything you said.
Well actually when I mentioned Wi-Fi I said "Wi-Fi Calling". I did not mention any issue with my Wi-Fi, as I'm (fortunately) not having any. Wi-Fi Calling is a feature from T-Mobile where you can make calls using your Wi-Fi signal, which may be stronger than your regular call reception is in whatever area you are in at the time. To have both that and VoLTE (Voice over LTE, which makes calls connect faster and offer stronger call quality and reception I believe) be active when using T-Mobile (which IS my carrier) here in the U.S., the phone maker has to get those certified (which costs money too) with T-Mobile. Sony was UNWILLING to do that, but HTC did do it, and to me, that shows they care more about U.S. customers than Sony Mobile does.
Yeah Sony DEF isn't as competitive as they were before, aside from camera, which is prob the only REAL strong point Sony still has.
That sux that they are giving you the "run around" on the Z Ultra. Maybe you should call and demand to speak to a supervisor or even higher than him/her?? I hope you get that issue resolved soon.
Yes, yes, it's possible to love a phone. Heck, you sleep next to it, don't you? Rate this thread to indicate your love for the HTC U Ultra, all things considered. A higher rating indicates that the HTC U Ultra is an incredible phone that you enjoy tremendously. You love it.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
I just got my black HTC U Ultra and I am loving it so far. Of course I am still in the honeymoon phase with the ultra, so here are my first thoughts:
This is a great phone for people that like phablets and don't want to use phones with different aspect ratios, like the S8 and the LG G6.
The display is amazing and I prefer it to AMOLED displays. The camera is better than the one found in the HTC 10 and the second display is very useful to me. I love how notifications appear in the second display.
Audio quality is excellent and battery life is very good, despite the relatively small battery installed.
The design is great and the black model doesn't show any fingerprints.
The only thing I don't like is that the bottom speaker on the left side is. I would prefer to have it on the bottom right.
Overall I am happy with the Ultra and I don't understand the bad reviews. This device deserves more.
Hi all,
I had my M8 for a little over 3 years and loved it but decided I wanted a new phone and at first was drawn to the Pixel XL but there was something that just didn't feel right about it to me really not sure what it was but it was there. Also I really don't like AMOLED screens despite what the majority seem to feel so that was another thing that drew me to the U Ultra. I manged to get an awesome deal on a 2 day old Black U Ultra although I think I would of still got one even if I had to pay full price to me HTC just build awesome phones and this one doesn't disappoint on build quality either. The screen really is just beautiful and no sign of light bleeding anywhere and I use mine of full brightness nearly all of the time and with very dark based wallpapers to. I am finding the 2nd display to be really useful and a good addition and also don't get all the negative reviews and general hate that so many are giving for this phone. I chose this over any of the other so called flagship phones and have no regrets at all and seriously don't get all the fuss made about only having a Snapdragon 821 as I really think the differences between it and the 835 are going to be so slight as not to not really be worth worrying about. Same goes for the battery size non issue IMO as I'm sure everyone would be complaining about how much heavier the phone would be with a larger battery and the fact it has fast charging sort of negates this issue to IMO plus it easily lasts me a day anyway.

I was going to leave a review.. but youve said everything I wanted too.. so.. Yes its awesome and why the hate is beyond me, but you know... strange how everyone bashes the U Ultra for its so-called waste of space... yet funny how no-one bashes the ugly looking Google Pixel / Pixel XL for its huge frame and big "wasted" bezel chins .. or the iPhone for their chins / bezels, sounds childish doesnt it......... thats because it is, but its the fashion
My only complaint is, no not the USB headphones, but that, at this price, HTC didnt include a £1 ( $2 ) USB-C - 3.5 mm adaptor in the box.
Im afraid, at the moment.. HTC and the U Ultra are "in Vogue" to hate on and bash, but no doubt, it'll be Huaweis turn next year
I do love my U Ultra
After 2 months of use, i can say this is one of the best smartphone this year. Im changing phones like socks, the last one was oneplus 3t,and i can say htc u beats him in all parameters. The battery life is better than oneplus 3450 ma battery, the camera at the top only i iPhone 7s beats him(and i had it to) sense is the best android launcher and os ever, the only bad thing is the down bottoms that are to close to the edge and it is hard to get used to it. Overall 9/10 points to htc u ultra!

Greetings everyone.
I thought I'd share my $.02 with you regarding the Ultra. This past year I've owned a 1+2, a Nexus 6, a 1+3T and now this. I honestly don't get the negative reviews. It's super fast, the built quality is great, the screen is awesome, the battery lasts a day (or about 4,5 sot) which is the same as the 1+3T used to. The second screen is quite useful and I don't give a rat's ass if it was originally seen on an LG. The sound is very good although it could do with stereo speakers while IMHO the Sense UI is light years ahead that of Samsung or LG.
I also bought it for 400 euros which is a bargain considering 1+3Ts are going over here for 470 brand new even at this moment.
My only complaint is that you can't charge and use the headphones at the same time, but what the heck. I'd also like to see more custom ROMs for this great device.
Anyone having second thoughts or being troubled by reviews, don't be mistaken: the U ultra is one hell of a phablet with certain features you won't find elsewhere. Just look for the right price.
I kinda love mine as well. I've never had a HTC before but I am pretty sure this wont be the last one
Hi people
thank you all , your comments was useful , i have question
which is better ? HTC u ultra , j7 pro , mi a1
NO
Hallo people. I have now Htc u ultra 128GB and i wanna share you pros and cons.
pros:
build quality (without cases)
speakers
cameras
screen colors
speed
fast charge time (15%-100% 1h:30m)
no heating
high Memory storage
cons:
it is so big
battery life is weak for me
htc has no my own Georgian language (but in 8.0 update they say will be)
it is little heavy
i had early time Oneplus 3T and battery life was just amazing. htc u ultra 3000 mAh is so bad if you are a gamer, or using 4G, or often taking pictures and videos. should be 3500 mAh. i am everyday charging my phone. but Oneplus 3T has metal body and it was heating so much, then was lagg
Can anyone share how is the sound quality/loudness through headphones?
Especially loudness.

I'm quite impressed by the quality of the sound through the supplied headphones. Granted, they aren't studio monitors or $300 Sennheiser's, but if you run the app to tune the sound to your ears, they are pretty good. I haven't tried them at full volume, but just to the limit where Android gives you the pop up about loud music. All in all, 4/5.

I've only had my U Ultra for just over a day, and I'm quite impressed with it. This isn't my first HTC (first was the Amaze 4G), and aside from the disappointing m8 that I had, HTC keeps making underrated flagships. I'm surprised how little fanfare this phone has gotten, despite having the best camera I've used in a smartphone (even using an iPhone 6S for a time). When Oreo does come to us, then this should be an even better phone!
