Hello. So Ive been having problems with the GPS. Sometimes i let it search for more than 20 min. and no lock. Sometimes GPS is not starting at all, I have to power off the phone, sometimes I need to start bluetooth then GPS so it can get a lock... thats wierd right?
Im on stock rom 2.3.4 V20q with HP kernel.
On CM 10.1 android 4.2.2 I get GPS lock in max 1-2 min. but on stock GB no...
My question is: Is there any FIX?

What does this sentence mean?
GPS is via satellite and not via Internet
I wanted to say that I want to use the GPS without needing to use the internet first.
Run the App one time.
It only sets the ntp server.

I always run this after flashing a new ROM. I hope it isnt just a placebo effect (like accu calibration and such stuff
Nah... same fukin thing again... it gets signal.. but...
I use Navigon... it gets the signal but after 3-4 sec. it loses the signal... then gets the signal back.. but after 3-4 sec it loses... WTF I hate this stupid phone.
Try a different kernel. This may be an issue with HP kernel.

Hi everyone,
I've made a GPS fix for LG Optimus Black (P970) and I wanted to share.
So far, I'm getting good feedback. If you want to test it, go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2205560
Since I only have a P970, I can't test on other devices. If you want to test this, make a nandroid first!

Hi,
I found so much different informations about GPS in CM7 but nothing really worked, and I don't know what is correct!
In Modaco FR19 it worked like charm!
I have the latest CM7 (from 07.04.2011), so I have the lto.dat that came with the rom, and my gps.conf looks like:
NTP_SERVER=de.pool.ntp.org
the three XTRA_SERVER...
SUPL_HOST=supl.nokia.com
SUPL_PORT=7275
Can anyone help me please?
Thanks
Ignore your gps.conf, it isn't used by the O2X. Make sure you're running at least #65, as there is a GPS fix included.
Edit: I see you do have a build new enough for that, so good stuff. How many locations have you tried it in? Use GPS status too see how many sats are picked up and what signal strength they're at.
This won't contribute much...but..
I have the 07.03 CM7 (#66)and;
-in maps, the time it takes to get the signal varies from instantly to a few mins or so.
- in navigation it does not appear to work.
Hi,
So far I only tested it in one location (will test it now in different)
I don't get gps location neither in maps nor navigation!
GPS Status says 0 in view and 0 in use...
So there is nothing I can do, but wait for a fix from CM7?
There isn't likely to be a fix for your individual phone, considering it works for everyone else.
Have you tried re-flashing it? Tried wiping it?
Ok it's fixed, I cleared AGPS data and changed location from inside to outside and got a gps fix in 2 seconds...
Thanks guys

did you have problems with the gps-fix itself or with navigation?

I am on the nightly #73. Google navigation works ok, Sygic (latest trial from the market) also gets a solid fix most of the time.
Copilot 9 premium jumps to a location then sits there for some time and does not track the movement, then jumps again and does the same. I had it working ok on stock. My O2X is originally V10d UK version. Copilot 9 UK and Ireland.
Tried to use the tricks from other threads: running GPSTest with a GPS fix in the background and then switching to Copilot. Does not work. BTW a colleague with an SGS on stock also has exactly the same problem.

Hmmm I don't have any reboots with the current CM7 nightly, but I had a few of them on stock. I hated stock and I like CM7 a lot. Would be a pity to go back.
Regarding the GPS lock times.
Be PATIENT the first time you try to get the lock.
For me it took about 5 minutes to get the lock for the first time. After that initial lock it now takes under 10 seconds.
Try using GPS status from market to see the satellites.
Needless to say, do this outside for best signal

Hi,
My dad has a Galaxy S Advance and we can not use its GPS receiver at all. I tried the GPSTest application, it doesn't show any satellites, whilst my old I9000 Galaxy S - which has a very weak receiver - can find 7-8 satellites. Does anybody have any suggestions?
Phone was running on I9070XXLPY (the very first 4.1.2), I thought it may be a SW issue so I have just flashed the latest German I9070XXLQE firmware via Odin but the issue still exists. Phone functionality and Bluetooth are working fine, so Modem binary is working and /efs is not lost. Phone is not rooted and I don't want it to be rooted at all.
Thanks in advance

Is it a common problem? Is it hardware problem?

If Internet enabled, it is the same. I know that if you download GPS data it should find GPS signal much sooner, but it shouldn't.
Thanks
Root and set gps.config to your country. Search for ntp servers. (Almighty Google). By default for my phone it was set to North America, and I am in Serbia. It was taking 3-5 mins to get gps fix, after changing it to my (rs.ntp.blah, blah) it takes 10-30 seconds.

Hi,
I'm not sure of I'm on the right forum/subforum, but here it goes. I am using iGO MyWay 8.4.3. Navigation (European area) on my P700. It work really well and I am satisifed but I have one little problem. I heard that many nav manufactures (iGO/Navteq included) decided that their .apk will use American satellites for GPS lock. Here we touched the problem. There are moments when I got GPS lock in few seconds and also there are moments when there is about 20 minutes needed to make a proper GPS lock (ofc, we are talking about open areas). Also, I heard there are few code-lines in .apk that could change satellite search to European area (closer satellites, faster lock).
My issue is : Is there any .apk editor that can be used to change these few lines of code without ruining the whole app. If so, does anybody know which codes have to be changed.
Thanks in advance!
It must one. I used igo primo v2.0 and now v2.1 for jb but i dont have this problems. From start to connetion it takes about 10 to 20 seconds.

I now it should, as I said, there are moments in which GPS lock is done in 10 to 20 secs as you said and that's how it supposed to be. I just want to find the way how to change those few lines of code (GPS orientation and positioning - primary -> something like that), from American location to European. There are 2x more American GPS satellites than European, but also Americans are using a lot of smartphones, so when American GPS sats are busy, phone needs more time to achieve GPS lock. Changing primary orientation / postitioning will make European (closer) sats more available, currently I guess mine iGO has its primary GPS sats on US, not european.
That is the thing I want to change, of course, if it is possible.
Thanks anway!

It might be a HW problem.
I have the same issue. I'm considering sending it to service or fix it by myself and lose warranty.

Recently I've flashed CM 10.1.3 (stable version). Everything is pretty much great (except battery...it's draining pretty fast but I'm ok with that since I got a portable charger).
But the number one thing that is annoying me the most is that I can't get a gps fix no matter what. It doesn't matter whether I'm indoors or outdoors, or what app I'm using (waze, Google maps, etc.), or what "gps fixing" apps I installed. I just can't get a freaking gps lock anywhere!
Before I flashed this ROM, the gps didn't really work well but at least it worked...
I've searched the entire world wide web (obviously started from XDA) and found some interesting answers but none of them helped me even a bit.
Is this a known issue in cm 10.1.3 or is it just me?

thank you to all of you guys for answering!!
Ok so I've tried modifying the gps.conf like deepmanu suggested, but still couldn't get a gps fix at all.
I know that LG screwed up with the gps in this device and that it is so sensitive that even if I replace the ROM
(I don't think that the CM team played with the gps files), it won't work at all.
Has anyone experienced this and found a solution? because right now the only solution that I'm think about is getting a nexus 5 or something =\

I managed to get my GPS working better by tweaking the gps.conf file, but nothing wonderful. If I am sat in my car I get almost no signal, yet my Nexus 7 is high-quality, 13 sats and almost instant lock. The GPS chip/receiver is crap in our device and that is why I will never buy an LG again. Apart from the GPS I love my phone, but that is too important a part for me.

Thought about it, but changing the baseband to a lower version means to compromise on lower quality phone calls and these kind of stuff.
And I'd rather have a terrible gps signal with great phone calls quality, than the other way around.

Maybe it's not the best chip, but still good enough. Samsung Galaxy S2-series phones all have a way worse receiver, I was barely getting any signal without network.
Problem with custom roms is that nearly all of them only include the very basic necessary configuration. See CM gps.conf and stock gps.conf (included in Omni), there's a big difference. I don't say this switch did wonders (it wasn't bad at all before too), but surely stabilizes signal.

You can't. To connect to an External GPS source is an immediate violation of the Ingress ToS and the app will refuse to launch. This is to assist, at least partly, in stopping players from spoofing their location to cheat.
So, you can connect to an external GPS source, but you can't play Ingress while doing so.

The best thing I have found is to make sure you fully close the Ingress app (Sign out and clear it from memory) when you get to the new location, then restart it and see if it works - that sometimes seems to force the app to acquire a GPS location quicker. Other than that, buy a different phone - not ideal I know.
