[Q] HTC One heat issue ? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

is anyone that already owned HTC ONE have experiencing any heat issue ?
My concern before I replace my current phone (HTC ONE X+) to HTC One is the heat issue, since my phone that running on NVIDIA Tegra3 is extremely easy to get hot. I'm not sure whether my phone have hardware issue that makes it easy to get hot, or its because the processor itself that easy to get hot when running application especially the one that need 3D graphic.
There is a game on google play store named "Beach Buggy Blitz", and I saw on the welcome screen got writed "Powered By NVIDIA Tegra". I played that game for only approximately 10 minutes and my phone already heated up so much and I cant live with it . so I wonder about HTC One will have the same issue or not ?

i think snapdragon is 28 nm compare to tegra should be cooler

I have same problem with my one x+...
Can't play any game more than 15 min.... It will get hot and start malfunction ....
Also drain battery fast after they got hot...

Like the above post HTC One's processor is 28nm(28 nanometers) so it's very2x small compared to tegra so it should produce less heat.

I thought its only happens on my phone, but then I guess its the NVIDIA Tegra3 issue rather than factory defects.:silly:

my ONE heats so much, and the metal frame behind makes its more hotter after player few minutes of games and browsing :cyclops:

It can get quite hot at times, up to 40°c but it's nothing major

Obviously, the aluminium is used as a heatsink. It'll get warm. The heat will dissipate. Not many dead.

Does the battery drop faster when hot. I swear mine does but need more time to be totally certain.

The only time I have a heat issue with mine is if it's on charge and I've been using it for ages at the same time. I'm lucky though because I invent faced any other heating situations in the slightest and especially not when I'm playing games (which I do quite a lot).

When playing games and charging it does heat up plus its aluminium so there will be heat felt. Otherwise it stays cool.

No. But a likely reason for the heat is use of battery... i.e., when the device uses energy, it is converting stored charge in the battery into heat and light.

Yes it happened to me today. I have been using the phone for the past 3 days, it got quite hot when using the camera, playing temple run and when it's hot, the battery dropped like crazy (from 30% to 11% in no time). Did I get a defective piece?

Phone heats up easily?!

Hi, my HTC Incredible S heats up easily when i am just surfing the web or playing games. Sometimes my phone heats up till 40 degree celcius that i can't touch the phone So could it be a battery problem?
40 degrees and u cnt touch the phone? u must be made of butter lol
i had my phone up to 43 degrees before
so it is normal for phone to be so hot?

it's not normal for it to be hot all the time, if it heats up when browsing or playing games then it's normal
I too see this overheating thing while using Maps on Miui and HTC Locations on Sense. The phone reaches u pto 41 degrees Celsius. By the way, can anyone tell me what is the safe range for an IncS for a high temperature.
Also, I have heard that the touch screen might become faulty due to high phone temperatures. The reason given for this is that the digitizer is glued in HTC phones and at high temperatures the glue softens leading the digitizer displacement and static discharge. Can anyone confirm this theory?
That theory may be true but for phones made of higher quality components like HTC and Nokia ... It's not.... I experience heating while using sygic.... But not any other time... Also heating is aggravated by surrounding room temp... If its already hot then phones heat up easily...don't worry just try to keep your phone cool or give it in the service center for inspection...

Are you overclocking too high?

Maybe a little off topic but my HTC Desire ran very HOT! when browsing the web and stuff.... I was very surprised when I got my Incredible S ... it gets a little warm but nothing that can compare to the Desire... I had my Desire for abour 1 and a half year, sold it about a month ago when I bought my Incredible S and it was still just as new, never had any problems with it so I don't think you need to worry about the heat...
i think u over clock CPU to high.try another kernel or change your Rom...
be careful may it damage your battery or phone hardware..
if heats again turn off phone and remove battery for 5 min..
Nope i did not overclock my CPU at all

[Q] Vivid Getting Hot

Has anyone else's Vivid been getting pretty hot after using it for a while? If I'm playing a game or watching a movie it seems to get really hot.
Mine was getting so hot that I have taken my commuter case off, fearing for my battery longevity.
But it seems to only happen when doing intensive things that drain the battery quickly

I owned the phone for 30 minutes, had it on for maybe 20, then I noticed it was warm. After attempting to set it up partially(30 minutes)it was HOT....HTC hasn't changed much since I've used their devices many years ago. To me they are notorious for hot/warm phones.
mine gets warm... but im guessing its just the dual core in it. i know my cpu in my pc can get hot and if i do gaming or rendering, my whole apartment will eventually start to warm up. this is a phone, i know, but its cpu is pretty powerful and short of a fan, i dont see this devices staying normal temps.
Never have I had the phone warm up even after playing games for like an Hour or watching a Full Length Movie. Might want to check the battery and make sure it hasn't bubbled at all. Had this issue with an Atrix 2 and found that the battery was screwed up and they exchanged it for me (The whole Phone that is).
Doesn't get any hotter than my Atrix, also a dual-core phone. I guess it's the CPU indeed.

I have the International Galaxy S II, it's dual-core & it's only gotten hot once since I've owned it in May!!!!!
I've allowed my phone to reach as high as 100°F, and that's when charging and watching YouTube videos over wifi for a while. Otherwise, its standing charging temperature is about 85°F.
Just for reference, my Captivate once hit 156°F while charging and on the phone, over the course of just 20 minutes.

battey getting hot while in use

Anyone else having that happen ? Is it normal , it shows up to 109 .x f somtimes on the battery wiget .

yeah, it's a hot phone...
not nearly as bad as the Nitro, but it does get quite warm.
It's worse if you're charging while using it.
Mine only gets realy hot on the net like when downloading or when its trying to connect it the server and having tower issues and it keeps loading and loading is when I've seen it hit the 109 mark .
Yep, mine flat out quit on me and reboot itself it got so hot. I was listening to music and surfing the web at the same time for about 20 min. I felt it getting warm but figured it wouldn't be a big deal but it was. Multi tasking while charging with WiFi on is by far the worst though. I have to pace myself now.
Yep, same here. And the rebooting thing is anoying. I need to leave the phone alone with battery out to cold it out and then I can return to use it. I think this is somehow related to kernel.
I got one of those SaFPWR Fusion 2 cases with mine, with the 18,000milliAmp extra battery built in.
It seams like it gets pretty warm too when surfing the net.
Somewhat expected though, using a duo core processor with no fans.
But yeah, it seams like the heat comes directly from the battery locations.
Anyone else get this case/extra-battery?
I am glad I'm not alone I'll call cs to ask about it.

My HTC battery widget shows the temp in centigrade. I could not find a setting anywhere to change it to Fahrenheit. Any suggestions? Thanks

Yes. There's a reason that they made the backplate out of aluminum and not plastic.

I've got one too. I'm not sure i like it. I was expecting this to last all day with heavy use but no. It was fully charged at 1pm and phone shut it self off at 9:40. I was surfing and was streaming music for about 3 hours non stop but after that i hardly used it. Not sure if I need to do more cycles on it to get full capacity but as it stands now I think I'm going to return it.
My experience is similar. I had it for a day, but the moderate gain wasn't worth the heft.
Instead, I have plenty of chargers and an external auxiliary battery for the rare occasion I won't be near AC.

Phone heating normal?

Good afternoon all,
I have my Optimus 4x for around 3 days now, the phone is great in general but i noticed when using applications that require more power the phone heats considerably in the part where the LG symbol is located in the back and i think even more in the front where the screen is.
In my case happened with Skype video call (around 20 minutes) and other time playing a game (frontline commando) for 10 minutes, after it becomes normal again, but as i said i think in general when using heavy applications.
Should i worry about this? is this normal? someone else experiencing the same?
As the phone is new i would like to know if is a defect to send it back.
i have software version V10d
Thank you
Its completely normal, the Tegra chipset is just behind the LG logo.
Got to remember there is a quad core and 3d graphics package sat under there

How hot does it go anyway? Is it hot enough make you feel very uncomfortable during a call with the phone next to your face?
I have never had it get hot during a call. Only during something like Dead Trigger.
Even then, it's hot but I can still hold the phone. When you consider skin burns at something like 44 deg C, its not really getting that hot. Especially when you think it's a quad core CPU with no heatsink or ventilation.
Sent from my LG-P880 using xda app-developers app
Yes i imagined exactly that there would be the processor, of curse is not hot enough to burn but is definitively hot.
My only concern is if in the long term this temperature wont damage the screen or other parts of the phone as for example in my laptop the nvidia video card heated so much that got damaged.
do you have any idea How should be the "normal temperature", is there any app to measure it?
For example does the galaxy 3 gets also hot ?
Sorry for so many questions but im not an expert and i want to be sure i make the right decision
To answer the call question, for me just gets hot as i said when using heavy applications, i would consider just annoying in the case i received a call meantime i played (etc) and the phone was hot but not to the point to say im burning.
Thanks for the previous reply's
Tegra 3 will be shutting down when it reaches about 90_degrees afaik. Don't worry your phone won't die. Only the battery... :-\

Anyone with any update? Its been 5days since I am using p880 and it gets heated up as experienced by other users near LG logo my OS is up to date (v10e)..also I feel battery drain much faster with when heated. Anyone can confirm same?
..cause->effect, not the other way around, and so on.
But generally, a passively cooled device like this /should/ get hot on the outside fairly quickly, instead of containing the heat. On the 4x, it seems like there's a frame on the inside going around the edges that will lead heat there first. Away from the battery, the middle of the screen, that sort of thing.. Ideally that heat would then disperse without ever reaching uncomfortable temperatures. Thought they did pretty well with the 4x. Seen several tablets.. with lower heat signature than a tegra 3 chip.. end up with a few typical spots the heat ends up on the outside (middle of the screen, contact points on sim card, battery, memory card frame, stereo jack.. copper, see?), because the heat is really being contained inside the device much longer than it should.
And then people happily use the device until it breaks. I don't think that's really a problem with the 4x.
I also have this heating problem land looking for a solution. I have p880g (Canadian AWS version) with 10c firmware. It got really hot before I even finished 1 game of The Game of Life. it wasn't skin burning hot, but hot enough to be uncomfortable, similar to a laptop power adaptor. I also think that it was hot enough for the phone to start throttling. The quadrant benchmark I ran while it was hot was lower than the usual.
I don't think that this game is too cpu and gpu intensive that it''ll max out all the LG O4X's hardware. I tried this same game on Motorola defy with cm9 (overclocked to 1ghz) and galaxy tab 10.1 (stock). Both ran it perfectly fine with no heating issues.
I hope someone can help. It makes this phone's Tegra 3 a bit useless if it starts to overheat with less than 15 minutes of playing a game. If this normal and what LG intended, then will likely be my las t LG phone.
Hi guys! I have the same problem - hot phone when I'm plaing some games. My question is: How many percent of battery drain the game for 10 minutes? In my case, for example bad piggies 10 minutes = 10% of battery. I have brightness of display on 0%. So I installed app called PowerTutor (it show you how much energy drain every app) and this app said that bad piggies drain about 600 J for ten minutes.
How about you phone? Thx for answer...
No one answer?
That's ok. All cpu's are active in this game's so heating is normal.

So I have v10H (newer than v10F)...
And I dont think that bad piggies are used all 4 cores, because my friend have only one core and he plays this game smoothly.
When you play this game, prosecutes to charge your phone?

Same in my case when playing games (swing shot, death dome..etc) it gets heated a lot and battery drains like passing minutes...
I played dead trigger with NO wifi,no 2G/3G, no nfc, no bluetooh and less then 50% brightness in 30mins more then 50% battery drained. And this happened with every game I tried.
I bought this tegra3 device only for games but this heating and battery draining is making it pretty useless for game.
Any developer can throw some light please.

Unfortunately v10f couldnot resolve my issue and I find v10f/v10g is same as my regions latest v10e.
heating is not a problem its normal because its tegra3 and Quad-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A9

well, I`m on v20a official software. With v10h I had the issue of overheating when playing a flashout 3d free game - I dont know how, but thermal protection didnt work. After 5 minutes of play, I felt big heat, so I came back to home screen and at this moment my beautifull-brand-new 4XHD went black screen - no buttons worked, even keeping long pressed power...so I took out battery and re-inserted. After start the screen was shaking like it had low-refresh rate applied...I was terrified. I took out the battery for one hour and after this all went to normal. Then I updated by official LG app the software to v20a and checked that phone gets very hot with this app again, but this time I managed to close and uninstall app without burning my new phone...so I gave it a 1-star rating and a comment in google play. Now I installed some app to monitor temperature inside and I see that with nfs:most wanted after 15 minutes of game, it was at 40 degrees (celsius). I checked with other apps and I see this was max and it felt/feels very hot, though this wasnt so hot like I felt with flashout 3d.
My question to all of you 4x HD users is:
can you tell me your temeperatures? Min/max ?
I mean: I have minimum 26/27 celsius (phone in the pocket), with data, bluetooth, nfc on I had about 30 celsius, and maximum 40 celsius (when playing demanding game). Also I saw big increase in temperature outdoors with bright sunlight(I have automatic brightness on all teh time) and while having data, bluetooth, nfc and GPS on.

Will your ONE get warm somtimes?

I just get the one for 2days. I feel from time to time it will get warm.
When using internet by 3G it will from 32℃ to 38℃. Sometimes use camera for 2 minutes just it will to 40℃. I use Gsam battery monitor to watch temperature.
During stanby time it is normally 29-32℃. And it is very quick to cool down even it is warm. But I still want to know how others phone is.
Maybe I shall ask for a replacement.
perfectly normal, you will waste our time replacing it, these temps are normal on quad core phones so get used to it
the good use the metallic back cover will help release the heat quickly
Really ? You are the expert on this. so it works for yours?

And for GS4 it is strange I went to shop to play the demo module which is always in charger, but I really can not feel the hot in back.
