Has anyone else's Vivid been getting pretty hot after using it for a while? If I'm playing a game or watching a movie it seems to get really hot.
Mine was getting so hot that I have taken my commuter case off, fearing for my battery longevity.
But it seems to only happen when doing intensive things that drain the battery quickly

I owned the phone for 30 minutes, had it on for maybe 20, then I noticed it was warm. After attempting to set it up partially(30 minutes)it was HOT....HTC hasn't changed much since I've used their devices many years ago. To me they are notorious for hot/warm phones.
mine gets warm... but im guessing its just the dual core in it. i know my cpu in my pc can get hot and if i do gaming or rendering, my whole apartment will eventually start to warm up. this is a phone, i know, but its cpu is pretty powerful and short of a fan, i dont see this devices staying normal temps.
Never have I had the phone warm up even after playing games for like an Hour or watching a Full Length Movie. Might want to check the battery and make sure it hasn't bubbled at all. Had this issue with an Atrix 2 and found that the battery was screwed up and they exchanged it for me (The whole Phone that is).
Doesn't get any hotter than my Atrix, also a dual-core phone. I guess it's the CPU indeed.

I have the International Galaxy S II, it's dual-core & it's only gotten hot once since I've owned it in May!!!!!
I've allowed my phone to reach as high as 100°F, and that's when charging and watching YouTube videos over wifi for a while. Otherwise, its standing charging temperature is about 85°F.
Just for reference, my Captivate once hit 156°F while charging and on the phone, over the course of just 20 minutes.

is anyone that already owned HTC ONE have experiencing any heat issue ?
My concern before I replace my current phone (HTC ONE X+) to HTC One is the heat issue, since my phone that running on NVIDIA Tegra3 is extremely easy to get hot. I'm not sure whether my phone have hardware issue that makes it easy to get hot, or its because the processor itself that easy to get hot when running application especially the one that need 3D graphic.
There is a game on google play store named "Beach Buggy Blitz", and I saw on the welcome screen got writed "Powered By NVIDIA Tegra". I played that game for only approximately 10 minutes and my phone already heated up so much and I cant live with it . so I wonder about HTC One will have the same issue or not ?
i think snapdragon is 28 nm compare to tegra should be cooler
I have same problem with my one x+...
Can't play any game more than 15 min.... It will get hot and start malfunction ....
Also drain battery fast after they got hot...
Sent from my HTC One X+ using Tapatalk HD
Like the above post HTC One's processor is 28nm(28 nanometers) so it's very2x small compared to tegra so it should produce less heat.

I thought its only happens on my phone, but then I guess its the NVIDIA Tegra3 issue rather than factory defects.:silly:
my ONE heats so much, and the metal frame behind makes its more hotter after player few minutes of games and browsing :cyclops:
It can get quite hot at times, up to 40°c but it's nothing major

Obviously, the aluminium is used as a heatsink. It'll get warm. The heat will dissipate. Not many dead.
Does the battery drop faster when hot. I swear mine does but need more time to be totally certain.
The only time I have a heat issue with mine is if it's on charge and I've been using it for ages at the same time. I'm lucky though because I invent faced any other heating situations in the slightest and especially not when I'm playing games (which I do quite a lot).
When playing games and charging it does heat up plus its aluminium so there will be heat felt. Otherwise it stays cool.

No. But a likely reason for the heat is use of battery... i.e., when the device uses energy, it is converting stored charge in the battery into heat and light.

Yes it happened to me today. I have been using the phone for the past 3 days, it got quite hot when using the camera, playing temple run and when it's hot, the battery dropped like crazy (from 30% to 11% in no time). Did I get a defective piece?
today is the 4th day with my Moto X...and i'm a little worried about my phone because of my battery issues.
the first day i got my phone, it came with 50% of charge and after some usage it got down to 14% but then, suddenly it dropped to 3%. I have some experience with this issue in my previous android phone, so i just tried a charge cycle and it is pretty much ok now.
BUT THEN
yesterday, my wifi was on and i was charging my phone and it went really hot, according to Antutu Benchmark the temperature was 45.1°C (113.18°F)... i quickly unplugged the phone, and it cooled down within 3 mins..
now today morning,
i made the phone shut down itself by draining its battery, kept on charge, i was not ussing it, only wifi was on and the temprature went 44°C (the charge was around 30-40%).. i left the phone as it is.. and then when the phone charged up to 92% it got better (37°C)
IS THIS ALL NORMAL? DO YOU GUYS FACE THIS?
if not, i'll have to replace this, so please help...
apart from this, i noticed that the device runs for a pretty long time at 1% charge
My phone definitely gets warm when charging. I don't have any apps to tell me the exact temperature, but it doesn't scare me. 45 °C is far below what the electronics can handle, and I wouldn't be concerned, it is well inside normal operating range in my opinion.
My battery is currently 102°f on network surfing the net unplugged. I've seen it as high as 113° and have not had any issues with the battery. I'm still getting 24+ hours between charges.

and once... i kept a lot of files for upload on drive.. and it was on charge... nothing else...i kept the phone aside...and within 10mins it was hard to hold.. 54°C
i am seriously worried.. but not willing to go for a replacement, since the service in my country is too bad.. any help? :crying:

Batteries naturally degrade over time. That simply speeds up the process slightly (light tasks) or slightly more (gaming). I've done it on all my 7 smartphones (including my first from 2011) and all the stock OEM batteries are working to this day.
I've even gamed heavily (when I enjoyed those things..) on my S2 i9100 and iphone 4s and both those phones get awesome battery life to this day. The S2 was even left on a shelf in the garage over an entire winter lol.
It's just the word damages could misguide people so I wanted to clarify.
But charging temperature can vary between two identical smartphones. My first iphone 5 was rather cool to the touch while charging where as the warranty replacement I got (dust under the lens, they swapped it for a new one) I got tends to be warm and even slightly uncomfortable to hold while using the device moderately and charging at the same time (same charger). It's just variance in manufacturing. No two processors are alike, no two batteries are alike.
thanks for your reply everyone... i guess i'll have to live with it..
maybe i'll just avoid using my phone while charging..
Some phones are great to take camping because if you play Asphalt 8 long enough, the back warms up to the ideal temperature that can bake bread. Rate this thread to express the extent to which the LG V20 stays cool under extended heavy use. A higher rating indicates that even when playing strenuous games for long periods of time, the phone doesn't get uncomfortably warm.

What heat? The battery gets a little warm while charging. Once charged it reverts to room temperature.
i did a test. now the file got corrupted (because i used both, horizontal and vertical mode) so,, if i get to fix it i will upload it IT last about 3 hours playing 1440P videos, but the battery warmed upto about 41-42C. If the corrupted file doesnt fix, then im going to do a 1080p video and see how long it last.
Warm, similar to S7 Edge
I know Samsung is getting heat right now, but the LG did get warm when doing the initial download and setup. Not hot, just warm. During charging using AIDA64 I saw temperatures around 50c at times, and the battery temperature was up to 36c. This is similar to the temps on my S7 edge. I was not doing a fast charge, just using a regular wall charger with the included cable.
This phone is perfectly fine, and does NOT heat up any more than the average smartphone does. No need to worry about anything here...
I haven't noticed any heating at all, Even when setting up.

It only got slightly warm during set up, as it was downloading over 90 apps from my google account backup. I dont think we have to worry about heat with this one.

Mine didn't hear heat up using lg backup surprisingly. Mine barely has any noticeable le temperature increase during charging. Haven't tested a heavy duty game yet. Done some heavy file transfers over wifi and screen mirroring. No heat.
Just got my v20 a week ago and this thing runs cold all the time. Im coming from a HTC 10 and it's quite nice. My HTC 10 would get hot enough while charging it or playing a intensive game it needed to be stuck in a case or it would almost burn me.
My V20 was running hot, over 102°f
I had 32% battery life when I pulled the battery and waited 2 mins before I turned phone back on. When I turned phone back on, I was at 18% battery life and it's still declining as I'm writing this. WTF???

Same here, had it since it first came out and never had any heat issues with it. I swear these manufactures release updates and cause our phones to start acting up wherever they release a new device. It started happening after the G6 was announced and I received an OTA update for bug fixes! Bug fixes my ass, they just want us to buy a new phone!

Actually I had this problem a week ago. I had an LG V10 before that did the same thing then a few days later fried. I had to return it for warranty repair then sold it. Fast forward to an LG V20, love it had it for a few months then suddenly it was draining battery fast and getting hotter then normal. I downloaded a few battery apps to help me trace the culprit but to no avail. Finally one day I just powered it off for about 2 hours and it has been back to normal since then.
Very strange and got me a bit worried about another chipset frying or another bootloop... lets hope not.:good:

Not much heat
I've had a v20 H990N for a little over a week, coming from a G3 (3 years without any issues until it died, i prefer to keep phones as long as they work). I have played asphalt extreme for at least an hour straight a few times on wi-fi, with the screen between 60-70% brightness and have not experienced anything except minor warming.

Need to follow your update cycle, getting phones and keeping it until they stop working. I have so many phones that I've collected, I used to switch out just for sake of changing phone shape etc.
I'm on v20 and intend to use it until it dies.
I does heat much more than expexted

Gets a bit warm, not over whelming, about the same as my Nexus 5X
While it gets a touch warm - even when it was downloading and installing all 150 apps, 15GB of Google Play Music, with Folder sync doing data transfers it still stayed much colder than my Z5C ever did with a couple of minutes use. That would probably burn toast!
I thought it got pretty warm, but idk. The material might have just transferred heat to my hand easier because my hand was sweating and you could see it on the back of the phone.
The phone gets REALLY hot when its constantly downloading something.
Anyone got any battery temps? If I run games for an extended period I end up around 43C. Cooler than my Moto X Pure which would hit like 47C.
Idle and light use around 30-33C. The phone has never felt hot to me in any circumstances so far.
"Feels kinda warm" isn't a very good measurement.
If anybody can provide heavy load or gaming temps I'd appreciate it. Also any additional info such as case or no case.
Usually if u charge and use a device at the same time that's when things get hot pixel 2 got warm enough to feel threw a tough spigen case wile browsing and charging nothin crazy
Hmm not great. I came from a note 7 which was very warm to a note 8 which was ever so cool. Considering the pixel but the heat issue among other things is a right turn off.

it will not get as hot as your note 7. note 7s had a few of them explode which just goes to show that sometimes the phone would get hella hot. not a lot of them did so it wasnt a huge problem when referring to how many blew up vs how many were sold but i presume higher than avg temps on all of them
It gets hot sometimes even when you aren't doing anything.
No heat issues so far. The best example for heat is to use Hangouts video calls. Generally with every previous phone I've owned I got a massive battery drain and heat when using FHD video calls. With the Pixel 2 the difference is huge.
We have to consider that this phone is easily ramping the big cores to 2.45Ghz and still maintains a good temp. I'm not suffering temp throttle like I was used after 5 minutes or more of continuous usage/browsing/etc.

It only gets warm when charging. I did not experience any kind of extreme heat coming from the phone and im a heavy user.
Only gets really hot when using AR, not so during games
I havent found anything to overheat the pixel 2 and im a heavy user. BUT that would be a lie. ****ty snapchat can make it warm up sometimes and well, Ark Survival really heats it up and eats right through my battery.
Pixel 2 Hotter after CreamPie update
My Pixel 2 is warmer than usual since the update. Prior to the update, it heated up a couple times mostly due to crappy game apps, which I removed.
Now it gets hot under various circumstances like running Android Auto, which is currently unstable until they release an update to fix whatever they did to break Android Auto.
It also gets warm in my pocket. I'll notice it's warmer, pull it out and cant see any reason that would cause it to warm up so much. This Pie update is crap.
Dont upgrade if you havnt already. At least wait for them to fix the bugs in Pie.
Could you test CPU temp and throttling using this app? It would be really useful.
I usually set it for just 5 minutes and it's enough. Also, tick the boxes in settings to show cpu temp and share a screenshot. Thank you!

I just got my brand new Razer phone 2, and for general use like browsing, you-tube , social media it gets hot at the camera area ( CPU sensors says sometimes between 35-45°C , when gaming it goes up 55°C or maybe more ) I know it has a glass back so i don`t know if it is normal or not?
Played PUBG to test the phone. Set Razer Game Boost to 2.8 Ghz and the phone does a fantastic job of simply becoming warm all-over, instead of getting any hotspots.
I only play DC Legends, haven't noticed any hot spots, and general heat is very minor, but of course its not an intense hardware demanding game...
Edit: for other general usage, Youtube streaming, Pandora, etc., haven't noticed anything worth mentioning either, minor heat, no hot spots.
I run a spigen case on mine and even after long sessions the phone never seems to get too hot and I play games like xcom and pubg.
In cortex I always set the games to the max settings

Impossibly hot
I bought a Razer phone 2 last month and it stays cool when just browsing the internet or watching videos, but as soon as I play any games like PUBG or Brawl Stars the phone gets too hot to even hold. I don't know if this is something that I should contact Razer over but it's ridiculous. Not only does it get hot to the point where it is physically uncomfortable to hold, but the touch screen becomes glitchy and I'm practically unable to use it. I was completely baffled by how a phone who's main selling point was gaming and advertised a cooling chamber got hotter than any phone I've ever been through playing the exact same game (Galaxy S5, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S7, Galaxy S9).

heat and obvious first question
I don't honestly put this phone down much throughout the day and I do have a silicone case, yet I don't notice much in the way of overheating unless it's charging. Not advisable to use resource heavy games while charging anyway. But even then it's not excessive.
My question is have you stitched the performance profile in Dev options.
Which then leads me to my noob question, if that profile is altereed does it take precendence over the cpu speed options in the booster app or is that what the app changes if Dev isn't enabled?

They're different options so neither takes preference over the other. The profile in the Dev options controls how early the device will start thermal throttling while the game booster app controls actual CPU clock speed.
Freezing Temps & Vapor Cooling?
I live in Minnesota and it's winter, so temperatures can sometimes drop to -40°.
Extremely cold temps made my HTC One shut itself off and report way less battery charge until the phone warmed back up to above freezing. And my LG Stylo 5 screen will gradually stop responding to touch if it is below freezing temps for too long. My concern is whether extreme cold has an impact on performance, especially considering the vapor cooling technology, what happens to the Razer Phone 2 if that vapor chamber is frozen?

Hi sir i've same issue with you but its the opposite, mine is so ****ing hot because even its rainy season but im live in tropical so temperatures can sometimes up to 40°.
of course my phone so easily raise the heat, cpu can up to 60° hot and battery can be 50°
Im even to scary to touch it when device becomes that hot. now i already buy a cooling fan from memo and it quite helps but find another issue because it uncomfortable to hold if put on to the device. i just wonder is case razer arctech really can make the phone more cooler like some few people?
