I have both an iphone and a G1. Now people slate the iphone for not being open source, but in terms of productivity it seems the iphone still wins out for me, and it is almost entirely down to two apps which I feel the G1 could REALLY do with: sbsettings and irealquicksms. I am trying to use my g1 everyday as I'm considering selling my iphone and hope someone can point me in the direction of something similar, or the same. Best to look on YouTube for a full understanding of these apps, but in shorts....
Irealsms allows you to send an sms from within ANY application, simply by pressing the volume button followed by a tap on the volume icon that appears, or by doubletapping the homekey. This saves swapping between applications if a text needs to be sent, and also facillitates replying. This is invaluable if you are watching a movie clip and really speeds up the texting process...it is the one application I truly miss from the iphone more than any other.
SBsettings allows you to change almost ANY setting from within ANY application simply by swiping a finger across the status bar on iphone. This means, for example, that if one is watching a film, or browsing the web, one can change the brightness, turn on/off wifi, bluetooth, 3g, gps or any number of other functions by simply swiping the top of the screen, upon which a toggle board slides down the screen. A press of the menu key slides it back up again. I am amazed that this app hasn't been developed for android as it is much more efficient than silly toggle switch widgets which clutter the home screen and are far less practical if one is already inside an application
well Toggle Settings by cooolmagic places the application icon in the status bar for quick access, I find that a good replacement for SBsettings
Toggle Settings is definitely an awesome app and sounds like it would be a good replacement for that Iphone app.
I use ChompSMS and they are constantly improving their app. I'll get onto their website and request they add on a shortcut ability. Say double press on the camera button?
Or, another option is "Bar Control" to add a shortcut for ANYTHING to your notification bar.
Keyboard shortcuts are great, too.
I would suggest looking into sms popup. It makes the text msg pop up and you can just hit the reply button after you respond just hold down the home button and go back to the program you were using last.
Why not use the quick launch keyboard shortcuts for messaging (Search button + S) and Settings (no default)?
You can set shortcuts for up to 36 different apps and the shortcuts will work from any application. Just go to Settings > Application Settings > Quick Launch.
You could also just hold [HOME] and select Messaging/ChompSMS to send texts without having to drop back to the home screen (If it was one of your last 6 apps used anyways...)
Fandango would also be awesome.

Bar control allows you to put any app in the notification bar for easy access within most apps. So you could put your messaging app and a setting app (or any other app you may want) in the bar for easy access. The only exception would be apps that take up the full screen and hide the notification bar. Not many of those though.
When ever I play a video on my Nook Color, I notice that I only see the play/pause and the skip forward and back buttons.I only see the video position slider when I hide the bottom status bar which in turn hides the controls so it is not a very good solution. I wanted to know if anyone knows a solution to this.

Get MoBo player from the market and forget all about that stock app.
In CM7 with most apps you will have a double down arrow that will appear after you touch a running application (..similar to ">>", but pointing down) . Once it appears you can touch it to hide the notification bar (and "tablet tweaks" controls). To get the controls back press the "n" button.
If this doesn't work, you may have to enable it somewhere in the setting menu (..I forget exactly where.. I left my nook in the car so it isn't close by to check ATM :/ )
I had this same issue but then found Mobo player and the interface made this issue a non issue plus its a great app. But that's an awesome tip! I knew I could hide the bar but didn't know how to get it back. Thanks!
One of the best features of KitKat is the immersive mode.. Where the navigation bar and notifications bar are hidden when not needed.. Like watching videos or playing games or reading pdf etc.....
Well it's working on my phone in watching videos only.. It hides nav bar and notifications bar.. But in games and pdfs it only hides notifications bar and keeps the nav bar.. My question is.. Is that normal, or it's a bug or something?

Hi,
Not all apps support immersive mode .
If I'm not wrong ezPDF Reader supports immersive mode for PDF reading and Dead Trigger 2 is a game that supports it, my update still didn't arrive so I can't test in my Z1, but on my Nexus 10 those two have immersive mode working .

Hey guys,
I have noticed that the Nokia 8 stutters when scrolling an app in which the top action bar is made hidden when scrolling vertically. I have checked this issue with two devices and also on 7.11, 8.0 and 8.1.
I am attaching a video link of the issue https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqgMv0eVsYc
As you can till the top action bar is hidden the scroll is not registered and the page jump backs to starting position.
Does anyone else have this issue? I don't know whether this is a software or hardware issue.
Im using TA-1004 and running 8.0, works perfect to me

Thanks for your help. Just try to flick or say a small swipe on YouTube app or some media heavy app. Flick just so that the top bar isn't fully hidden. Can you try and tell me?
Hi,
I'm currently searching for a way to make my S10's navigation bar persistant in every app. (also in fullscreen apps)
If you watch a youtube video or play a game on a device without hardware keys its not possible anymore to switch instantly.
When i remember how easy and fast it was on my s7 edge, a single click from everywhere got me back on my homescreen and a double tap on the menu button switched to the last app.
In my S10's settings i found something in setting/display/navigationbar but the gestures are not really an replacement. (especially when you use your phone with one hand)
I don't know how bad screen burnin is when i have the bar on the whole time but if the buttons where black it would not be a problem i think?
cheers
