Hi!
I have a car with a USB port I use to plug a DOK with music play it.
I tried connecting the phone with the USB cable, but the car's radio shows me "error".
Of course I already checked the obvious setting: "check that the phone was as mass storage".
So I am guessing there is more to it like the way the car radio reads the information on external drives.
Has any one successfully contested their phone this way?
Thanks...
It has more to do with your car radio than with the SGSA.... check the radio manual to see what the requirements are for streaming through the USB. Some cars only take iphones ...
Surprisingly my car manual indicated that any mass storage class device will work, but then it also said capacity less than 4 GB, which is funny because my current usb device is with 8 GB and doesn't do any problems...

Are you using a jellybean rom???
Usb storage ids not working correctly in jb......
See this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2187514
May be this is causing the problem. ..
I don't think it is connected to that because doing a Google search pointed out that people with GB also had this problem....
The problem on the thread you linked is concerning moving large files to the phone (a problem I don't have - I have copied 1 GB files with no problem)

Hi everyone,
I have a 2010 Honda Insight model with a USB compatible car radio.
I have owned other phones and the car radio supports iPhone 3G, Nexus One and an ordinary USB flash drive.
However a Samsung Galaxy S it does want to recognize. It says first USB LOAD and later UNSUPPORTED on the display.
I have tried several methods on the phone after USB is plugged in: click on home button after MTP connect screen appears, put USB in debug mode and choose to connect drive after USB dialog appears.
Does not work with and without external SD.
Is it the MTP background process that bothers the car radio?
Or it does not support drives which are partioned into several filesystems. The first filesystem is FAT32. But why the Nexus One is supported?
Any clues are very welcome!
not sure but this is my guess.
the MTP is not what the car is expecting. It expects a mass storage usb-drive. In settings you will find usb-options. There you can set it to be recognised as a mass storage device instead.
By some odd reason you also have to pull down the infoscreen and click usb, and then click mount
thanks for your help
in my phone i dont have settings to choose MTP vs MSC (mass storage device).
I did choose in info screen for mass storage device and I connected, but the car radio did not want to recognize.
How can I kill the mtp background process? What is the process name?
i have the same problem with my 2009 Civic Si
I tried all of the usb modes, with debugging on and off for each. still no luck.
insteads of USB, use bluetooth
for usb to work, you need to mount the drive, and make it run as a mass storage device
Is there any other solution for a car without Bluetooth?
I also have a Honda Civic with the USB audio and a Galaxy S Captivate phone. Every connect method I've tried so far fails. Has anyone gotten this to work? My car doesn't have Bluetooth.
Any help is appreciated. I am welcome to solutions that include rooting and loading a different ROM.
I have the same problem on Honda stereo... Is it possible to update the care stereo itself? Maybe someone could develope this into a ROM?
I a have a Samsung Vibrant and a 2010 Honda Civic LX. I used a "Dynex - Microphone Headset for Select Music Mobile Phones" Model: DX-MP3MA SKU: 9535327 (from Best Buy) and attached that to my phone. Then I attached a "Dynex 3' 3.5 mm stereo Audio Cable" Model: DX-MP353B SKU: 8915178 to the "Aux" input underneath the "Lighter". It worked PERFECTLY! It also works perfectly when attached to a Yamaha Home Theater System that was made to be compatible with iPhones/iPods. I used the input for "Portable." I hope this helps!
Obviously I attached both cables to one another.
In fact I am listening to Pandora (using Samsung Vibrant) connected to my Yamaha Home Theater right now and it sounds awesome.

If you buy the equipment from Best Buy, you can always return it.
promet, in theory that won't have the same audio quality as connecting the car stereo to the SGS via USB as a USB storage device.
this is a solution i got working on pretty much all types of car stereos

Unfortunately this did not work with my AVH-5200bt . It charged, but wouldn't mount!
Anyone have another possible solution? Pretty much the only use I have for my ipod is hooking it up to my stereo lol.
Hey all,
I've been having the same problem on my Samsung Galaxy II LTE (almost identical to the "Skyrocket" from AT&T) in my 2010 Honda Civic USB.
For what it's worth, I've managed to get it at least partially working.
I used "Multi Mount SD-Card" (you can find it in Android Market/Google Play, requires root unfortunately) and tried enabling only one SD card to be mounted at a time.
For whatever reason, it works fine if I only share the the internal storage, but not if I share my 32GB external card. Both music folders are identical, so I don't know if it has a problem with the card being used, the size of it, or if I need to low-level format it, etc (hence another round of troubleshooting next week).
So, I've sorta gotten it working, but not the way I want it to be working. I hope this helps someone.

I got LG stylo and sumsong Galxy s3 could not get my car Bluetooth to work and neither the usb any help
Hi all,
Up until recently, my phone has been working great for transferring data between my computer. I'd connect it via usb, set it to mount to the PC and just move stuff back and forth. I was also able to use droidexplorer without fail as well.
Now, for some reason, droid explorer loses the connection when I start diving into folders, and my regular mounted transfers time out when moving files between my pc and phone but I can browse my phone without issue until I start transferring.
I have tried multiple ROMs and I am seeing the same issue. I have noticed that my usb cable is loose when it connects to my phone. Could this be the cause?
Any insight to this?

It looks very much like USB is losing connection intermittently.....if you are on Win 7, do you get the "ding-dong" device-connecting sounds repeatedly?
Also, if you updated anything on the Win OS, or added a new USB device, you could end up with this. I know when I added my bluetooth dongle, all my phone connections went to pot.
Also, try different USB ports.

I'm on windows 7 and nothing has changed software wise. No audible notifications either.
Once the connection dies I normally have to replug-in to get my PC to detect the phone. I did notice that one of my front Ports doesn't see my phone anymore. I'll try one of the back ones.

you should try different cable. The one came with my phone gives me same problem now. I bought a new one off amazon for 2 dollar. It working great for data and charging.....
I managed to connect via USB OTG a samsung dvd drive to my nexus 7 using nexus media importer app. you have to toggle the dvd drive to AV mode otherwise this wont work.
see demo on my youtube upload http://www.youtube.com/my_videos_edit?ns=1&show_mt=1&video_id=yvoyab75QgQ
this should work for all android devices if your device has usb otg support. so if the nexus 10 has usb otg support it should work for the nexus 10 as well!
see uploads too if interested here http://www.youtube.com/user/veryannoyingname/videos?flow=grid&view=0 and cast an eye on my play lists too http://www.youtube.com/user/veryannoyingname/videos?flow=grid&view=1
hope you like my uploads and play lists. if you like my uploads please share them too with your friends too.

Have you considered the problem of continuation of the battery if you use a USB DVD drive?
Have you managed to play an entire DVD that way? I can't even get a movie on a memory stick to play more than 15 minutes with this setup.

AW: DVD drive connects to nexus 7 via USB OTG
Why is it exactly that seemingly it is not possible to integrate a CD/DVD driver into Android??
The XDA people can do SO much, why can't anyone port an ISO-9660 filesystem driver for USB from Linux???
I have an old external dvd writer (CompUsa) lying in storage that I hooked up to my Nexus 7 and the app Nexus Media importer recognizes it too.
But that is where it all stops and nothing else going forward since holding down the eject button for a while does nothing to this generic dvd-writer to make the necessary FAT32 transition.
File manager is also able to see it in dev/usb but since there is no way to convert the file systems am unsure as to how to proceed without a driver for android.
Knew it would not work and thought I will just put it up here if anyone can think of any work around.
Only a drive that can do av mode can work. If your drive works when connected to your tv via usb then it should work with your nexus too using the app.
I have managed to go one step further where NMI asks for which partition I wish to use. However the single named partition does not do anything when clicked. The name however offers some insight. It says 7.7 GB - CD/DVD drives only supported in AV Connect mode. However I do not know how to switch the Reader/NMI (I do not know which must have its mode changed.) To this AV connect mode. I am using a VicTsing DVD Reader/Writer.

How can you plug the Z1 in USB on a sound system to play the music that is in the Z1?
What interests me more is to plug it into this ==> http://www.soundandvision.com/content/review-sharp-gx-m10-portable-cd-stereo-system
I haven't yet succeded, I either get the message "reading" continuously without any results, or if I change default USB mode to Drive mode, I get "Not supported", it is frustrating. Is there any solution to make it work?
I need to bring it out and unleash my beast.

Did u let it read for a while because if you have a lot of songs it can take a while my philips sound system took a while to read my USB stick so is probably the same with the boombox...think about it...it has to read all you pictures and whatever else u have and identify what they are...also look into the specs and see what type of disk format the boombox supports...if it's NTFS it won't work because the memory format used by android is FAT32...
Edit... just read another few things...make sure the phone is set to mass storage and not MTP and see if that works
Edit 2... the file format is not the problem try the above thing and see will that fix your problem

Hi, thank you for your answer! Sorry I come back late I did not have a moment for myself. I'll look at this and tell you in few moments if it works :good:
Hey. Is it possible to install an external bluetooth dongle to usb ports? The internal is defective and i want to use a2dp. I have deactivated the internal now in factory settings but if i connect a linux compatible bluetooth stick, nothing happens. I am new to android and i donĀ“t know how to look for hardware devices in terminal and activate them. I saw a tread where wlan0 internal was replaced by wlan1 external, so maybe there is a option to do it with bluetooth.
Some one more knowledgeable then me might be able to help you.. But it sounds like it is a "module" problem..
As in you may need to have "modules" loaded in Android before it will recognize your new Bluetooth USB stick..
There is a manual work around as in using terminal commands that you could use if you have the modules for your stick.. It would be the same as what we had to do on for USB modems and USB wan sticks we plugged into the TF101 tablets..
Once you get it going you could as a rom developer to load them into the rom for you so you don't have to have a script and terminal to load them..

Thanks, thats too much to handle it for me. I understand not much .
Unfortunately the MCU controls music output through Bluetooth so that's not possible. Even if your BT-Device was detected you would not be able to use ryou HU as "BT Headphones" for your phone. Android's Bluetooth stack does not support that.
Hello, my car (vw passat b7 variant) has a built-in bluetooth headset. Is it possible toconnectit somehow to the headunit or at least to have usable in paralel with the onefrom the headunit? I have a jooying android headunit and the bluetooth quality is awful and basically I cant use it.
