Setting up the source tree http://source.android.com/source/downloading.html
From Jean-Baptiste Queru-Hi! We just released a bit of code we thought this group might be interested in. Over at our Android Open-Source Project git servers, the source code for Android version 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) is now available. Here's how to get it: Follow the instructions at http://source.android.com/source/downloading.html Check out the 'ics-release' branch:repo init -u https://android.googlesource.com/platform/manifest -b android-4.0.1_r1 That's it! However since this is a large push, please be aware that it will take some time to complete. If you sync before it's done, you'll get an incomplete copy that you won't be able to use, so please wait for us to give the all-clear before you sync. This is actually the source code for version 4.0.1 of Android, which is the specific version that will ship on the Galaxy Nexus, the first Android 4.0 device. In the source tree, you will find a device build target named "full_maguro" that you can use to build a system image for Galaxy Nexus. Build configurations for other devices will come later. Unfortunately we still don't have our Gerrit code review servers back online. That remains our top priority though, and we hope to have them back soon. This release includes the full istory of the Android source code tree, which naturally includes all the source code for the Honeycomb releases. However, since Honeycomb as a little incomplete, we want everyone to focus on Ice Cream Sandwich. So, we haven't created any tags that correspond to the oneycomb releases (even though the changes are present in the history.) JBQ, on behalf of the AOSP team.

That would be a long wait.
From what I read on the net, the first phone to possess sense 4 is codenamed HTC Ville, and will come out on April.

Rezound has sense3.5. Unless they make a upgrade for it before HTC Ville release, we will be waiting and hoping LOL.

Just a few threads down from yours, there's a two-page thread already about this. Heck, there's already at least one modded kernel based on this source.
Edit: I mean, come on. That thread is even mentioned in the post you linked.

What's the status on an aosp rom for this device?(if any) Just wondering since the source code was just released.
All you have to do is look in the dev section....only code that was released was a kernel code
Its in progress. All the devs at the moment have other commitment to contend with atm

Hi everyone, I haven't really been keeping up with roms lately and was wondering if this phone is getting cm9 or 10 or is cm7 the last update?
Thanks !

From the looks of it, no. The problem is the kernel sources were released to late. No CM dev really has our phone so therfore hard for us to get it.
There is of course unofficial CM9, heck even CM10 Roms out there if you want to but no official yet.
To be honest I really doubt we will get them because Incredible S is on it's way to be a legacy phone prolly after new years. So unless we get support before that I would not get my hops up, but even so I doubt it.
ZaySk is apparently porting cm9 for us.

There was a source build of cm10 in development like last week posted by aero Evan from the droid incredible 2 section

Hi Mark,
What would be so innovative about Viper ROM? Just in general? and why promotion of this ROM is focused so much on sense?

Best tweaks in an sense ROM
iirc, J4n87 (team venom boss) is the man behind the leedroid tweaks for sense 3.6 as well.
Its a sense rom, so its focus is sense You can change nearly everything, its like the AOKP of sense roms
Is Viper built from source?

Hey Mark,
Out of curiosity,
What is the actual difference when you say built from source and Built from RUU? Is it that you are building everything from scratch, when you say that ROM has been built from source?

Built from source generally refers to AOSP ROMs, meaning they're stock android like the nexus devices. With a source build you can include fixes and features and stuff. Some ROMs are ports of source builds for other devices are so are less tailored to our device and have a few bugs.
If something is built from an ruu it is sense based. HTC release their ROMs via ruus with sense in them, but technically that build them from source and add their framework and stuff. Everything is source based at one point, just a matter of how long ago and what has been added on top. But generally 'built from source' means it was built for the specific device with sources from aosp, aokp, cm or whatever.
That's at a very basic level

If I gave you two zip files, would you be able to tell which is from source and which is a port?

Nope, if those two roms are aosp, but i can assure you that sense rom can't be built from source

I wonder if it would be possible to build one's own "skin" like HTC Sense, Touchwiz, etc. It would be a lot of work, but interesting if done properly.

My question was asked to understand wheter or not ROM's from source are better by nature. But I'm not so sure anymore. I'm beginning to think that good ports may have better quality than ROM's from source.
Is there anyway to fix wifi?
Not right now...
Could you please do a little research before posting? There are like 20 posts COMPLETELY IDENTICAL to this one.

R: [q] cm9 wifi?
I don't know if I'm going to say something idiot or not, but with the revolution super stripped 3.3 rom the wifi doesn't work, but if you flash a boot.img file, which is in the rom's zip, it will work again... Isn't it possible to flash it before installing cm9?
(I really don't know if what I said is right or not )
Sent from my HTC Desire C using xda premium
It would be good if it was that easy
The problem is that we cannot patch our device's WiFi driver into any other Rom then a Sense-based, because HTC did not include that code in the source code.

In other words, we will not have ANY cm9 or any CM based, AOSP based Roms at all unless we make HTC release the source.
Now there are some things you guys can do to help out which include:
Read the thread Neoyoli posted, further up this thread, and read the first page THOROUGHLY, to get a grasp of what we mean.
Only Send HTC emails relating to what we need do not go off topic! We need the FULL kernel source released, not jellybean etc...
Now if you really want any AOSP or CM based Roms, we need to make HTC release this full kernel source.
Come On send those on Topic Emails!
