Theirs no need for one mate. I was fond of using a task manager on all my phones but on this beats of a device you do not need one.

OK cool thanks for the info man, I'm so use to one coming from a SGS4G

He's right, you don't need one. Especially third party ones. If you really need to kill a task or two, though, then the built in task manager will do the trick. Just a note though, killing cached tasked doesn't actually free up space (in my experience anyways).

On the Running tab you will see all running applications and services. Click the one you want to stop and then click stop.
FYI I have never had a need to do this. You're more likely to harm then good when you go killing tasks in Android 2.2 or higher.

I still thinking Advanced Task Killer is a lot simpler since it has a widget that lets me kill all wanted apps on one click.

Can I ask in what circumstances you do this? I don't understand why people kill applications.

if he wants to cripple his phone, let him cripple his phone.
after all, its his choice.... then afterwards, if hes complaining about poor battery life, something not working.. then we'll just sit there and be like "told ya so!"

Usually I kill apps when I feel its getting a bit slow. I do not know why but sometimes my apps use the memory leaving only 50mb left, and that makes the phone laggy and sh*t. Should it be like that? maybe I have virus?

What do you need that memory for? It is there to be used by your phone, let your phone use it. It does not cause your phone to slow down.
Memory is there so that your phone can load data from storage and get it quickly to the CPU. That is why the memory is there. Android keeps important information in memory. Then it can move it quickly to CPU when needed.
It sounds like you would prefer the phone to not use any of the memory in which case I ask why have memory at all then?
"Free memory" is wasted memory.

they are right, on 2.2 and up there is never a need for an appkiller. the way the OS is designed its able to keep all its apps in memory, that was one of the primary changes in 2.2 from 2.1. try not using it and see how it runs, just resist the compulsory need to kill apps XD
If you are using cm, you can use long back press to kill foreground app too. Enable in programs, dev
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA Premium App
Try using a BFS kernel, it doesn't kill apps, but gives the app in the foreground more resources

Please do yourself a favor and read this article -

You know it's hard to say. Google TELLS you you shouldn't need a task manager, and if Steve jobs told you this, would you be fuming and flaming Apple?
But seriously, the reason we shouldnt need it is because Google has a decent RAM managing system. But it's not really THAT great. What ends up happening is we play with stuff like minfree and mess with foreground memory usage and stuff. The truth is Google's memory management isn't perfect. That's why we brute force add RAM to our devices goign from 256mb in the Droid to 512mb and to 768mb in some HTC devices and now 1gb in the Atrix and SGS2.
It's pathetic because I come from the 256mb Milestone. Instead of optimizing memory use on an Android device, we have to go overboard. People keep saying task managers aren't necessary, but in Milestone development we mod the hell out of the memory management of Android.
True, task managers and autokilling shouldn't be necessary, but at the same time it won't kill your battery life UNLESS it's doing killing every 5 minutes or something. Once an hour will probably dent your battery life by 1% at most anyway.
The usefulness of task killers is often overstated, but the negatives are often overstated as well.
I've seen threads where people said that their i9000 they have ~200 MB of free available RAM. That's really surprising. Can this be caused by a kernel?
I have around 100 MB of free RAM at most times, running CM10, stock kernel.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
RAM Management is being handled by Android OS. We dont have to do anything about it. See article on AndroidCentral:
http://www.androidcentral.com/ram-what-it-how-its-used-and-why-you-shouldnt-care
So why it the free RAM memory differs so much? My i9000 has around 100MB of free RAM and other guy's from the forums has like 200MB of free RAM at any time.
It may have something to do with the quantity of apps running in every phone.
Every phone has different apps installed.
I, particularly, do not use synching, wallpapers (live or static), weather apps, music effects, google maps, etc.
I either disabled these apps or froze them to make sure they won't run.
Most of these apps run automatically at phone boot-up, thereby consuming RAM.
You can check in Settings/Apps/Running what applications are mostly running on your phone, then you can try to disable them if you think you don't need them.
How do you freeze the apps and prevent them from starting?
In settings/apps/all apps, select the app you want to disable then disable it. If you have Titanium Backup, you can use it to freeze your chosen apps.

You can use App Quanrantine to freeze the undesired apps. I use it for almost 1 year and it works.

You can increase your ram by installing devil kernel. Then installing devil kennel manager from play store
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
Titanium backup or app quarantine are useful to freeze unused apps, but if you use an app you can't freeze it (or you must unfreeze it)
For used apps, you can use Autostarts to disable unwanted run of apps on phone startup, or after other events trigger in the background.
depend on the rom that you are using
Try another kernel with bigmem.
svolacius I've been red that if you have 40 20mb free memory then it is very good for you because phone is using memory properly

Does anyone know where I can get Samsungs stock taskmanager for CM 7.2 or at least one that works like it. I tried so many different taskmanager apps from the Play store but they all aren't good.

Firstly, Android 2.3+ doesnt need a task manager. However if it makes you feel happy I can find the Samsung one for you. People report it ruins your phone over time or something

Gingerbread has one that does it automatically. In app if you press home it runs in background and back kills it. Something like that. Google search task manager on Gingerbread.

Actually its a priority system, where apps u dont use for long get removed from memory automatically. The phone doesn't get damaged if u use a task manager, its just that ur phone will use more battery as it has to process that app all over again and ur loading time is ofc increased. But on mid - high end phones u don't need a task manager due to enormous amount of ram and fast processor. I do feel the need for a task manager cause i don't use my phone too much and background apps will drain my battery unnecessarily.
Edit: Here is a task manager. Just copy it to ur system/apps folder using a root browser and set permissions as all the apps present.

Thx bro
I put your apk to /system/app and changed permissions to rw r r and now it works! First i tried this with wee0's apk but nothing happened But also thx to you!

Just wanted to ask if this phone has a task killer built in or do I have to download one from market? I came from the gs2 where when u pressed the home button it gave u an option to kill certain tasks while leaving others open. All info is greatly appreciated thanks.*** Also on a side note is anyone using setcpu to lower the cpu or is it best to run it stock?

If you double tap home it will bring up your recent apps. You can swipe them away, but task managers are not really needed.

I restored the built in task killer from titanium backup from the evo lte
Sent from my HTCONE using xda premium
As usual, the best recommendation for task killers is: DO NOT use one.
Task killers almost always cause more battery usage and slower performance, just because they force your phone to reload an app every single time you open it. Some people seem to believe that just because an app is in RAM, it's using battery, and that's outright false. It's suspended in RAM, doing absolutely nothing, waiting for you to use it again.
The only apps that actually run in the background are apps that have services (Facebook, Spotify, etc), apps that do things in the background. Killing these tasks isn't even a good idea, as Android will attempt to restart killed services.

Here is a blog post written by a member of the Android team explaining how multi-tasking works on Android and why task killers actually hurt performance and battery life. Don't use them. They're counter productive.
There is an app in the play store called Grennify. It's kinda like a task killer. The short of it is that you select apps to be Greenfied. The selected apps don't run in the background while your phone is in sleep mode. I've been using this app since I had my S3 and IMO, is a must have app for root users.

Had the same problem as you, especially facebook consumes alot of ram doing nothing.
Because facebook is a system app you cant greenify it.
To change facebook to a normal app I used system app mover:

Havent seen any problem doing this, facebook updates normal and is working fine.
After changing facebook to a normal app you can greenify it .
Hopefully this helps you killing that awfull facebook app

Actually if you get the Donate version of greenify, it allows you to greenify system apps too, as well as display notifications for the greenified app even if it is hibernated! It is well worth the money!
