Device won't turn on - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a big problem
After unlocking my device and flashing my device with "KA02.2 Xperia Z Revolution" everything seemed running smooth for on day i turned my phone on and off writing sms, ... then when i tried to start up in fastboot mode and pluged into the pc to flash doomlords kernel it suddenly was dead. No LED light and the phone won't even start up (to be precisely i dont no if its even turned on).
Could it be that i am just stuck in fastboot mode and just let the device run out of battery? or what could it be?
Thanks for any response in advance!

I do not understand what you mean by:
"Could it be that i am just stuck in fastboot mode and just let the device run out of battery? or what could it be?"
By reading this I get the idea the phone is now no longer turning off?
If so, try hold the VOL UP + Power button untill it turns off.
If that is not the problem, hold VOL UP and plug in the USB in the phone. (Do not press power)
Does the device enter fastboot mode now?
If so, does your PC recognize the device when connected in fastboot mode?
Kind regards, Stefan.

vul up + power will restart your phone, keep it pressed both for more than 10 sec and it will shutdown your phone hardwarely! then you can go to flashmode, fastboot and etc.

I'm not sure if you doing this the right way,
1. you must hold down the vul down
2. and then connect the USB!
3. make sure your drivers are installed and your pc find your phone!

At the start the phone went to flashmode as i hold the volume up button , and also the soft / hard reset gave me a vibration feedback , but for some reason i had to wait a night for test to flash the stock firmaware and when i woke up the day after the phone was in the situation that i described in the first post.
Do you advise me to put the phone in charge even if the phone don't give me a feedback when i plug the charger?
Hi Kidamundi,
I've the same issue. I've tried to update my cyanogenmod 10.2 yesterday. Now the phone is dead.
I've tried the reset (power and vol+ until 3 vibrations), then I've plugged in the charger over night but the phone won't charge.
Now I've blinking red light (2 times) if I press the powerbutton.
I've no idea where is the problem ...

reanimated
Hi,
I've reanimated my phone!
First of all I've charged my Phone, but it has only worked with the rubberband on the powerbutton. After 1 hour charging I've connected the phone to flashtool and have flashed an old stock rom. After flashing my phone has booted.
But still 1 problem I have. If its powered off the phone will not charge. No red light, no animation on the screen, nothing. I think its a problem with the kernel but I don't know it. Do you have an idea?
Regards,
Tom

i have the same issue with my xperia v. phone won't boot. whenever i hold the power button. red led light just blinks 2x/3x. i tried taking it to a service center and they said they have to change the lcd together with the whole base. which will cost me 12,000 pesos. i bought my phone for 12,400. so i think its really stupid to have the lcd replaced. i'm gonna try what you guys did and update you if this works. good luck to us guys.
ps: when i unlocked the bootloader it did a factory reset and i think what happened is it disabled usb debugging that's why it won't turn on.
sorry for the double post guys. i really wanna fix my phone. i left it charged for at least 1 hour. i used this program called update service. it actually detected my phone but it gave me this message that reads "the phone contains modified software that cannot be updated" does my phone still have a chance? ):

i tried that. but this will only work if usb debugging is enabled. after i unlocked my bootloader. my phone restarted and it did a factory data wipe. it slipped my mind that usb debugging was disabled again.
"For flashtool, Unknown Sources and Debugging must be checked in phone settings"
Turn your phone off. Open flashtool and press BLU. Then go into flashmode (volume up while plugging usb in). You do not need usb debugging to unlock/relock bootloader via flashtool

i dunno why but it is telling me that in able to relock the bootloader. usb debugging has to be enabled.
USB DEBUGGING DOES NOT HAVE TO BE ENABLED. Just press BLU then enter flash mode. Simple as that

it won't work if usb debugging is disabled
It will always say that message. Just unplug and start your phone. Usb debugging is only used if you want to root or automatically restart into fasboot

Red light blinking is because your phone voltage is less than can running kernel and charging program. You need like a car put together a battery
I dit it after trying all button, software, etc rescue.
I connect my old HTC desire battery to the Xperia with the usb charger connected.

Brick after format microSD by CWM
Before few days I successfully managed to gain root access, unlock the bootloader, and finally install a functional CyanogenMod ( 10.2.0 stable) on my Xperia V.
(after one softbrick, when I learned how to use flashtool and fastboot).
Yesterday I was install in to the phone a new 32 gigabytes SD card, but Total Commander file manager in the phone didn't show contents. I decided to format this microSD. The mistake was probably that I used to format ClockWord mod in the the phone. Twice times I check whether I will formated external microSD. And I format it to the default format. After format I confirmed the fix root privileges (I put YES) and then just reboot.
However didn't reboot phone and no reaction, no led or vibrations. Bricked.
I take SIM, microSD and battery from phone.
After instalation battery back, my brick "symptomes" are same like Kidamundi and others:
-if i try to turn on the phone the red led blink 2 times, pause, 2 times, pause, etc (no vibrations)..
-if i try to push the buttons for soft/hard reset the red led blink 2 times, pause, 2 times, pause, etc (no vibrations)..
-if i connect to the pc and try flashtool, answer is "USB connection is not in Debugging mode, Device disconected",
-if i connect to the pc and try fastboot, "waiting for device"-if i connect to the pc no response even if i try to hold the voume up button during the connection( i tried also with flashtool)
-if i try to connect the phone with flashtool opened ,and i press power button the red light still on like 5-6 second and flashtool recognize the phone but as the red light turn off flashtool show "device disconnected".
Is relock bootloader safe way for me too (with succesfull Cyanogenmod before bricking)?
And which is next step after relock booatloader?
I tried to explain the problem as better i can, and sorry for my english. Thank you.

[Q] Xperia T will not go past Sony logo

Hi, I have tried to use flashtools and I've got all the necessary drivers (I think) but once I put hold power button and vol+ (3 vibrations), then press vol-, connect to pc via USB and I get a temporary green led, which goes after about 5 seconds, and then my phone disconnects from my computer again and i get a constant red led while the Sony logo appears. I really need my phone to work Could someone out there please help with this! I would really appreciate if someone responded very soon as I would like to get this sorted as soon as possible. Flashtools gives me these messages:
22/012/2013 23:12:07 - INFO - Device disconnected
22/029/2013 23:29:07 - INFO - Device connected in flash mode
22/029/2013 23:29:18 - INFO - Device disconnected
Also one more thing I'd like to add.. Once I go into that BLU thing, it keeps on asking me what device I have, so I select Xperia T and then it gives the following messages:
22/052/2013 22:52:26 - INFO - Your phone bootloader cannot be officially unlocked
22/052/2013 22:52:26 - INFO - You can now unplug and restart your phone
Might this have something to do with it? Any suggestions would be grateful! I've been at this for hours now and need to get this sorted
Thanks to any kind person who helps fix this!
1) Dial *#*#7378423#*#* and goto software info/configuaration. If it says bootloader unlocked allowed: no, then you CANNOT unlock it via ANY means
2) If it says yes (I doubt it, because flashtool has already checked this) then you can.
3) Flashmode has nothing to do with bootloader. Press volume up to get into fastboot (Blue LED) for working with bootloader, press volume down (Green LED) to work in flashmode, which is for flashing FTF's.
4) If you are trying to flash a FTF, then do not connect the phone until it asks
5)Make sure you have gone to C:\flashtool\drivers and run drivers.exe. Ensure you choose fastboot, flashmode and TX drivers.
6) Make sure you are on the latest version of flashtool 0.9.13.1
Can I ask what you are actually trying to do?
Also flashmode and fastboot and adb dont work on windows 8(.1)

Oh okay. I'm using windows 8.1, so what would I do to fix the issue?
I have given my phone to the manufacturers to try and sort out but I have a feeling they will refuse to fix it, so any help would be appreciated. If i use a windows 7 machine, would it work? If so, how do I fix it such that it exits bootloop and allows me to access my phone. I don't mind losing all my data (although i think its lost anyway lol)
P.S. thanks for the reply.

I'm sure your batt is dead. Try the rubber band method. Give it like 2/3 rounds of it on the power button and hold it and plug in charger. it should charge with red led on. Pull battery and try again if it does not charge. Give it some charging and it should be able to enter flashmode to flash stock.

I don't think the battery is dead, as the led would just blink and wouldn't even show me the Sony logo.. Everytime i use the phone with the charger it goes into the bootloop, looping around the Sony logo and then switching off again, then the sony logo will show again, etc. I've sent it off to Sony manufaturers. Would they fix it (even if the manufacturers warranty is void)? Like, even if they charge a little (hopefully not stupid amounts of money lol)? If not, i'm going to try and use flashtool on windows 7 machine and hope that it works, as I've heard flashmode and fastboot and adb do not work on windows 8(.1), which is what im currently using :crying:

Yes (or, at least its definitely one of the reasons). Use Win 8 or Win 7 or Win XP.
If after that point you still have trouble with it sticking to flashmode: I also had trouble flashing via flashmode with one of my USB ports. I like to use the front ones on my PC but they don't work for every device. There is also a USB cable that I have that does not work for flashmode. Consider these 2 things

I'll try windows 7 when I get it back. And wow really? I didn't realise that using different cables actually made a difference? At the end of the day, if it charges the phone it should work! Lol, Sony know how to make things real complicated!

It's just a soft brick. What did you wanted to flash? Just flash a stock .ftf file with flashtool, or a kernel with recovery.

Well, first of all I want the phone to start up normally again so that I can use it.
What I did achieve up till now is that I can get it connected to flashtool in Fastboot mode.
I guess this gives me the opportunity to flash a boot.img first so that I can install 4.4 or 4.3 later.
But first things first.
Do you think flashing a boot.img could restore the phone in a state that it functions as a normal phone again?

My xperia t has gone in for repair. Before considering this though, could you try one thing to see if it'll help restore phone? Go to your PC companion (and no, its not a standard recovery which i'm going to suggest so keep reading!). Once you have done this, click on "Support zone". Click "Start" on the "Phone/tablet software update" option. Note, you do not need to plug in your device yet!. You should get an error message coming up saying device not connected. And once you get this, there should be a message asking you whether you are having "severe problems with your phone/tablet". There's a "repair my phone/tablet" hyperlink. I want you to click that and NOT the connect button. Once you have clicked that, please follow the on screen instructions. Tell me if this works for you I hope it does!

Ah that sucks! Are you not on windows 8? I've heard that windows 8 and flashtools don't get along, but if you're saying you've got your device into fastboot you should be able to flash it using flashtools!
Sony Xperia T LT30p dead resolved
OK, here it is for those interested on how to revive a dead Xperia device.
Yesterday my phone stalled at the SONY logo.
Nothing could be done anymore.
My phone has returned into normal state thanks to SonyXperiakiasT :good:
Follow this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2315572
Howto get into a state that one can flash the phone.
- download: LT30P_9.1.A.1.141_PL.ftf (the original firmware)
- install and activate flashtool-0.9.13.0-windows.exe
- at the SONY logo push on/off, vol-up and vol-down together
- when the phone vibrates an the logo disappears release all buttons and immediately after push on/off and vol-up button
- when phone vibrates release on/off button, keep pushing vol-up button and plug in USB cable from computer
- you will be in a state with a blue light at the top left of your phone.
- however you want to get in a state with a green led
- push vol-down and on/off
- unplug the USB
- wait for the phone to vibrate
- release the on/off button and plug in the USB
- Follow the instructions in the thread mentioned above and your phone will be revived.
All the pushing, releasing, plugging and unplugging is a quite delicate affair.
I tried it during several hours before I got a bit of grip on it and still I am not shure how I got into the green led state.
Try it, be patient and be shure that repair is within reach as soon as you have a green LED on your phone.
Good luck!

Hey so I ran into this same problem! my phone wouldn't do anything except boot up to the Sony screen, no lights no charging nothing
I figured it out, at least for me
>Have your flash ready to go via Flashtool
>Have your phone plugged into your computer via USB
>Hold the volume down button and then while holding it turn it on
you should have your green light and may have to hold the volume button the whole time until its done flashing.
Hope this works
FIX!
Hey the same thing happened to my xp T few days ago. My phone was rooted with UB. I was stuck on SONY LOGO too n my phone was rebooting from there repeatedly but I was managed to get into cwm n I installeddifferent kernels + Rome but it was no good. Like u said in your OP I couldn't get into flashmood too. When I select the firmware flashtools say preparing files then the phone reboots! Then flashtools say device disconnected!! The solution for this is when flashtools says device disconnected pull the usb cable n press vol up with power button n turn off phone. Then once turned off straight away press vol down n plug in usb cable n flashtools will start flashing. The important thing here is not to close the window that pops up when flashtool say device disconnected in red. Hope this helps, same prob worked for me so should work for you! Peace

[T] Don't switch on & no flashmode

Hi everybody,
First, i would apologize for my poor English, and I hope you'll understand me
Phone : Xperia SP // Paranoid Android // LBL
Computer : Drivers Flash/Fast installed // Flashtool installed // SEUS installed
For 10 days, I get a little problem, my XSP don't restart. In the morning, my phone was 100% loaded, and I plugged in a bad battery charger from ebay. After use it, I would like to lock the screen and black screen but back light doesn't switch off. I tried to unlock the screen but i couldn't. Then i pressed off button behind the case and i was expecting that the XSP restarts, but nothing.
I re-plugged it on my good battery charger and the LED stays off.
I let it for 10 days and today i re plugged it to wall battery charger and surprise! the LED switch on red. Then I tried to get it onto flashmode but when I plug XSP to the computer with volume - pressed, there's nothing happen.
Is anybody could help me? Pliiiiiiiiiz!

You should try the Minimal ADB and Fastboot. It's a really great tool if you don't wish to download the whole Android SDK.
Also see the FlashTool Xperia Driver Pack by @DooMLoRD. Downloading and choosing Fastboot and Flashmode Drivers while installing this driver pack will probably fix your problems. :highfive:

You should also go into the Device Manager and see if your device is listed there or if it is shown as an Unknown Device. If nothing is shown click Scan for hardware changes and see if something comes up! :fingers-crossed:

USB Debugging mode has nothing to do with Flashmode. We can go into flashmode even if there is no ROM installed. As USB Debugging is a setting which can be toggled inside the ROM I don't think it has any effect on Flashmode. So thats not your problem.
Have you tried the steps I mentioned above?

New tests :
When the XSP is unplugged, the LED light up twice when I pressed power button
When I plugged XSP, the LED light up and my computer recognize that a device is plugged (it's sound like), and then turn off for a second and at this time the computer think I unplugged the phone, and finally the LED gets red and after few minutes, there is no LED anymore...

That is definitely because of a driver problem. Goto Device manager and then try connecting the phone. When you connect it there will be a new entry in the list of connected devices. Right click that and uninstall those drivers and try starting over.

Hi,
First of all : There is no hard brick for Xperia SP. Either you have a soft brick or your phone has a hardware default.
Now there are two common cases of soft brick from which you can recover:
The first is some kind of early bootloop. It seems like the phone is off but your phone is bootlooping. This happens if you flash a non working kernel (and can probably also happen with a corrupt kernel).
To recover from this: plug your phone to pc, press volume up and without releasing it, press the reset button on the back. You should keep all the three (volume up, usb and reset) until you see the green led. This mean you are in flashmod and from then just follow the guides !
The second kind generally comes from the first one. It's an empty battery with non working software. It happens if for example you have a bootloop which drains your battery totally.
To recover from this: plug your phone to wall charger (not on computer) and wait for some hours (you will probably need at least 3. Maybe even 5-6 hours) and then try the solution for the first kind of brick.
I don't think I have seen any harder brick than these two and I believe hard brick cannot happen unless you mess with the bootloader (like editing it).
The problem could also be a hardware default. In this case, just send your phone for repair if you still have warranty or buy a new one.

thank you pec0ra for the reply
i can confirm that its not soft brick (bootloop , sony logo, display on) and there is no hardware defect , bootloader is unlocked and i havent played with bootloaders ,never relocked or other things
tried by connecting hard reset button + volume down +volume up to enter flashmode but no it isnt
what happenedd is i have flashed wrong ftf (charge level 50+ percentage) and falshtool succesfully flashed c5303 ftf and removed usb and tried to turn on but power isnt responding phone doesnt turned on and back hardreset button also failed to reboot the phone , when i coonected with pc it tried to install qualcomm drivers (qhsusb_dload)
i dont know what will happen after flashing wrong ftf technically
can you say about that little more that would be helpfull
thank you

I'm not sure about this, but I think flashing a c5305 firmware on a c5302 shouldn't brick your phone but only your wireless connectivity.
The bootloop I talked about is a bootloop that happens before the sony logo displays. Booting android happens approximately so :
Reset signal sent to cpu
Load kernel (I'm not sure but this should be done by some hardware procedures and the bootloader) and initialize devices
Load ramdisk and display splash logo (sony)
Launch android and display boot animation
If you have a bootloop at 4 (after the boot animation has appeared), it means your kernel is working but your rom has a problem (for example it is not compatible with the kernel)
If you have a bootloop at 3 (after the splash logo has appeared), it means you have a problem in the ramdisk
If your CPU is totally broken, you might never arrive at 2
Now the interesting part is if your kernel is broken (for example not compatible with your hardware or there is an error in the code or the binaries are corrupted). If an error happens in the kernel, an interrupt signal will be sent to your CPU and you will start again at 1. This will lead in a loop in 1 and 2. Your screen will stay off but your CPU will run at max speed doing the early initialization again and again. This often drains the battery before you find it out.
This kind of hidden bootloop only happened to me when I modified a kernel and made some errors, but I can easily imagine that this can also happen with something going wrong in firmware flashing or corrupted firmware.
I have seen this kind of problem a few times, mainly on my phone, but I've also seen other users report similar problem. My guess is your phone only has this problem and I recommend you to let it charge a few hours and then try to connect it in flashmod.
If the problem isn't the one I mentioned (and this is of course possible), then I can unfortunately not help you further and you should wait for others to reply.
Good luck !

Flashmode is independent from the kernel.
The right combo is volume up + hard reset. Keep them at least 10-15 seconds while connected to usb.

I'd say the red blink is a good sign but unfortunately I have no further knowledge to help you. If I find the time I'll make some tests.
In the mean time, you should try your computer with another phone to see if usb works and/or try with another computer.

Do you have any LED light? Below example from my hardbricked Xperia S.
When I've connected Xperia S to computer, red light show up. After a little while LED turn off, and device is recognized as qhsusb_dload (SEMC Flash Device, Zeus flash device, or which driver I have installed or I havent.) No matter. The thing is, that my phone is recognize after RED led turn off. Dont know how about SP, but I suppose that can be similar.
In the end. Launch s1boot, select sin_file_set wich you have to flash (theres a Thread with proper file to recover boot) click on Testpoint Ready and connect the phone to usb. I suppose not, but can work without disassembling device and attaching testpoint. You have to try.
