Hey guys,
Total noob here as you can see, but prior to signing up I've gleaned a lot of info and help from xda-dev. Great Forum!
So first off - YES I did search for this, both on xda-dev and google. I've found several suggestions, which I'll go over below, but none have helped and I'm at a dead end.
I have a Droid Razr that I want to root. Phone specs are:
Droid RAZR (XT912)
Android V. 4.0.4
Kernel v 3.0.8
Build num 6.7.2-180_DHD-16_M4-31
PC is Win7 x64
My issue is that the when plugged in (USB Debug enabled, and NOT as mass storage of course) It refuses to show up in device manager as an ADB Connection/Device. It shows up under portable devices. Various Rooting scripts I've tried always fail at step 1, I assume because of this issue.
Here are things I've tried;
Removed ALL drivers and software related to Moto Razr. After my PC was thoroughly convinced that it had never met a Motorola Device before, I plugged in my RAZR and Windows could not find a suitable driver automatically, which I expected. So I tried these things one at a time:
MotoHelper Driver 5.50 - It is the correct driver for the device, but it recognizes my phone as a portable device, not an ADB connection.
Motorola Device Manager - same results
MotoCast (suggested via Google search) - same results.
Android SDK. I downloaded the software, installed the packages I needed, including the Google USB Driver package - same result.
I Googled up a similar issue with a software called "DejaConnect", I downloaded and installed their driver - same results.
Going through each of these, I removed the old drivers and rebooted PC several times, rebooted phone several times, double and triple checked my USB Debug setting, and I just can't get this to show up as an ADB Device.
What am I doing wrong here? I figured if anything could fix my issue it would be the SDK software, but that didn't resolve the issue.
Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

It looks like your phone is not in the Mass Storage mode. Switch to that (so that it's not recognized as a Media device, but as a Mass Storage one). That's the way I have it on my Razr I.
And yeah, wrong phone for this forum

Sonuva!
Can I get this moved to the correct DROID Razr forum? I don't want to double/cross post.
Thanks patoberli, I will give that a try. From the guides I was reading I was convinced it should NOT be connected as mass storage, but we'll see what happens!

So just in case this does get moved to the correct Droid RazR forum...
Reading this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1764850 I decided to do a factory reset. Before setting up any accounts or syncing, I turned on USB Debugging and BAM, showed up as an ADB Device. After that it was easy peasy.
Used Eternity Project's one-click root tool. Installed Safe Strap for backing up and flashing ROMs, right now I'm using the Black Widow ICS rom.
Successful day.
Hello everyone,
I'm new here, so I do excuse myself in advance if I should get something wrong.
I would like to know if it is possible to get the Kindle Fire HD 7'' to work as an MSC device (it usually works as a MTP one and there seems to be
no option to be selectioned) because I lost some data after unregistering it.
Thanks.
Hi,
i'm using Kindle Fier HD 7'' with CM10.1 - most works fine, but i'm really upset about the transfer speed.
A 2GB-File needs about 15-20 Minutes to transfer from my computer to Kindle (USB2.0). Tried it on different computers with the same result.
I use the cable that was delivered with the kindle, OS was Win7x64 and winXP.
IMHO this is very slow. Is it normal? Am i doing something wrong, anyone suggestions for me?

this its normal , try to flash the newest update (link here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2245335 ) and tell me what hapend , i use to have the same problem with the older builds then flash the new and its working good
USB 1.1
You should check your host and cable, that equates to about 12Mb/sec, which is top speed for USB1.1... With that being said, I was only getting 28Mbit/sec when transferring the latest CM ROM via ADB on my KFHD7.
Hello Guys!
I currently own a Kindle Fire 7" HD 7.4.6(Rooted) but I have a little problem getting my kindle to show up on 'My Computer' (Trying to transfer some music to my device) I have looked everywhere for this one specific question that I cant find an answer to hopefully it could be solved here... Anyways before my device was rooted Windows couldn't detect the device plugged in but here is the confusing part after I found out about rooting, I went on to try to do it and I managed to successfully root the kindle (following this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2351201) installed the ADB drivers and yes "Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v31" program did detect my Kindle and rooted it which is weird because I mean Windows couldnt detect my kindle but that program did? I can plug in my kindle and it is detected as an ADB and even shows up in my device manager, but my question is, how do I get my kindle to be recognized so I can manage it (i.e. adding music/pictures) Another weird thing is that yes my kindle is detected but you know the sound that Windows makes when you plug something in via USB? Well when I plug in my kindle that sound is different I dont know if it has anything to do with this problem... Well that is my question hopefully someone will come to save the day!
Is the kindle listed under portable devices in the device manager?

Plug your Kindle Fire HD in to USB port. Go to your device management. Look for the driver that is being detected right now. Right click on it and click and choose properties. Click to uninstall the driver. Now unplug the KFHD and plug it back in. Let the driver install. This should fix it. Restarting your computer after uninstalling the driver might be tried as well. removing the root hubs is sometimes necessary as well.
Hi everyone,
I would use my mouse/usb key on my HTC desire 510. If i understood after my researches, that's not possible on all smartphone...
So, is that possible on our HTC ?
Thanks for your future answers !
yes our stock kernel supports usb otg, as well as supplying power out. i use a 32gb sandisk usb flash drive with my 510.
Thanks for your answer.
So, i bought this the hama otg (i cannot send a link) but when i plug it in my phone, i get a message like "Phone in host mode, impossible to..."
I root it with your img.

It shouldn't be much of an issue. It does that for me too but still works, do any other errors present themselves?

Well, i just plug the otg in my phone, without other usb. It show me "Phone in USB host". I tried with OTG checker, my kernel is ok but no signal detected by the application.
I tried to turn off the phone, & remove the battery, then put in again & turn on. When i plug in the OTG, nothing appened for a moment then the cursor of the mouse that i connected in the OTG appear for just 1 second, like a flash & the message back again.
No other problems
Today i tried to make my own OTG usb to see if the problem is the phone or the OTG hama.
When i plug my own OTG usb, nothing happen. When i plug the other OTG i just get the same message i said in my previous answers, nothing else happen.
Any idea ? I don't know but is anything i have to do like turn ON USB debug or anything else ?
Edit: I got a Xperia today to try my OTG, it seems that he works well so i just need to ask: Is the HTC desire 510 64bits EU is compatible OTG ? If it is, why my phone don't recognised my OTG ?
Still need some answers here
It just not support USB HID over USB (mouse and keyboard). Could've been disabled by HTC (reason for cursor disappearing after 1 sec of plugging in).

Hi ! Sorry for insisting but i read on official htc web site that the htc desire 510 support usb storage. So, why nothing else that the previous message happen.
I bought another OTG today & it's forever the same...
I want to bump this topic, I have european 64-bit version and when I connect OTG cable there's info shown about phone being in usb host mode but nothing else is happening.
My thought is that tey give this option to 32-bit US version and then disable it (clumsy) in european version.
Sorry for grammar, english is not my native language.
I dont personally own a desire 510 but I know that 90% of otg issues are with the cable... Try another cable because all are not the same...

I have two cables, both work great wirh other devices .
Hi,Have u already fix ur desire 510 problems?
I already changed 3 different otg cables, seems like the same problem as u met....Any suggestions?
I had that issue when I flashed a moded kernel. Had to go back to a stock kernel and it fixed the usb issue

USB OTG pops up a message in the notifications bar to let you know that you cannot simultaneously charge your device and utilise an USB device. The only reason that I can think of why the mouse cursor would disappear after a second is because you have your finger on the screen. I use my OTG with my digital camera (via Google Photos), USB Keyboard, USB Mouse, another Android device, and a 64GB flash drive almost daily, and I don't seem to have any problems.
Hello, can you please explain the details for that?

If your phone is not rooted and doesn't have a custom recovery installed on it then there is no way possible that you're using a different kernel, that means that you already have the stock kernel! Is your phone 64 bit?

I am not sure, the kernel version is 3.1028-g72f7e8d and @AbM103#1 SMP PREEMPT, the last two digits of serial number is 64 so does this mean it is 64bit? Thanks in advance

Where are you from? If you're in the USA then it more than likely is 32 bit but if you're in another Country it's a really good chance that you're using a 64 bit and from what I've read about it the 64 bit for some reason or another doesn't work correctly with the usb otg and I can't exactly do anything to help with that since I don't have access to any 64 bit phones.
