Fair Warning: Droid 4 Users updating to JellyBean on Pageplus - Motorola Droid 4

Just a fair warning to everyone using Pageplus on a Moto D4 Device. As you all the Jellybean update has been released and your phone might of already offered to upgrade your OS.
DO NOT UPDATE!!!!! I REPEAT DO NOT UPDATE!!!!
Although JellyBean is very beautiful, this update will break your Page plus configuration. I had two friends already who were on Droid Razr/Maxx and updated to JellyBean. The whole CDMA WS config has been reset so options like NV_ONLY and EVDO config has been erased leaving the phone in a non working state- In terms of calling, texting or data.
I'm very tempted to get JellyBean and everyone is looking for a safe solution to upgrade to JellyBean and have PP. As far as I've seen online, there have been successful tutorials but it required re-flashing the system to a factory state and re-configuring and others had it where you need a new sim and was necessary to root the phone. I'll be experimenting and posting my results soon. If anyone comes up with a success, please share!!!
Good Luck and be pre-cautious!,

It's an independent cellphone company that utilizes the Verizon Wireless Network. Pageplus users cannot natively use verizon 4G phones so it has to be reconfigured to work on page plus.

There is a great tutorial on how to upgrade the droid 4 to JellyBean and have a working Pageplus config. The Fastboot JellyBean files for the D4 are released so now it will be no problem to recover the phone if there are complications on the way.
Credit Goes to snoop1979 on howardforums with his method on getting the Droid RAZR/MAXX to work with Pageplus on JellyBean. The same steps can apply to the droid 4. The only difference is the SBF file you use on the Droid 4. The one on his tutorial is ONLY for the Droid RAZR/MAXX. Using it on the Droid 4 will just instantly brick the phone. Below is a link to his amazing tutorial.

The link below is the correct SBF file to use with RSD LITE for the DROID 4

If it's Droid then it's for CDMA. I don't think it's a good idea to try it on Milestone.
This has been repackaged as a ROM. It will not work on the milestone, under any circumstances.
Could a moderator or the OP perhaps re-title this thread in light of the fact that the update in question will not work on a Milestone?

Question is pertaining specifically with the title. It specifically states "DROID" and the question addresses if this will somehow work due to it being signed by motorola.
Perhaps, it will be helpful if there is a developer who can torn the package not to include the radio which is the only difference of milestone to a droid.

The title of this post seems to suggest that we, the Milestone owners, can accomplish this installation and it would somehow invite us to do so.
Motorola signed the Droid firmware to run on a Droid, not a Milestone. There are additional internal hardware differences beyond the radio, and there are software differences that permeate several components of the OS.

If it were so cut and dried, we'd have custom roms by the butt load.
It isn't
I really wish people would stop assuming that life is simple because almost every other android device has custom roms...
The milestone could have custom roms right now and it wouldn't make a difference, because we couldn't load them.

Per your request, title has now been changed.
Moved to general since it isn't related to development.
This will not work on Milestone, it is built for Droid which is CDMA. Droid and Milestone are two different devices, they require completely different ROMs. There is no Froyo ROM for Milestone out there yet, neither official nor leaked.
Please be patient.
Thanks

Droid early version

how can i root this droid. it's an early edition of the droid it even says "confidential motorola restricted property: not for sale" and where the meid is located it says
"motorola
engineering use only
not for resale
cdma sholes hw p2p"
I've tried to root the phone but it didn't work.
Not sure if this will work for yours but have you tried the rooting instructions for 2.1 android
There's a section for tutorial in this forum for it. The first part of the flashing process which uses rsd lite to install the Droid 2.0.1 sbf file actually erases the current version of android installed with all other info except for the sdcard and installs the 2.0.1 version from a blank phone. And from that point you can root to what ever you want but like I said I don't know if its possible with you device and not sure if will harm it but it maybe worth a shot. Also yours is an engineering version of the device so it may already be rooted or other ways to flash Roms that aren't known of. You might be able to search the Motorola site for developer software or something like that because HTC has a section of their site for their developers to download stuff for them to use so Motorola might have a similar site. Both are worth a shot if possible. Good luck.

Try this its a link to root a Droid with a voles signed file and a tutorial to tell you how. I'm not sure your version of test-keys but by doing a little creative searching I think you should find something. I just typed root Motorola voles and the link I gave you came up. There should be more if this don't help.

I should say what I posted last is also a link to root an early edition Droid from last year.

I also found this. Its a Google site where some one has similar problem with your version of firm ware. It tells the person some how he ended up with an test build or engineering version of android and says Giro Verizon to have them reflash a consumer version of android. It also in howardforums
Your model is called voles because it is the name Google used for Motorola Droid. So damn yours must be a dinosaur. Lol. That being said though you Havering an engineering version of Droid from Google can't be impossible to do anything with but there also might not be any current rooting roms. Or anything anyone else would have to help you. Your probably going to have to search for some developer firmware or software you can use to work with the phone. Its not I'm possible to find but wont be easy. Sorry for bad news. Good luck.

Is you Bootloader unlocked? That was my main question... if so - that could really help some devs out. Hold down your Up arrow of your keyboard down while booting up.
Email me if unlocked please...
Looks like you've got a very interesting handset there. Take good care of it, 'cause you could unleash a whole world of things (how the "real" Droid made it's debut).
Maybe poke around with ADB and then find out the CPU and such? It could be a early version with a 700Mhz CPU, for example. As for the android installation, it looks like it's using Android 1.5 or even 1.6...
BTW, how'd you get it? eBay?
I bought it in a flea market for 100 bucks
Sent from my Eris using XDA App
So have you contacted AdamZ or checked if the bootloader is unlocked? Before you flash anything it would be REALLY helpful to know if it is...as people have said it could really help out the developers. Seems we've had other engineering samples floating around but people flashed them to stock...locking the bootloader.

Ya..I tried this update yesterday OTA and had the same issues (I'm rooted and unlocked with webtop hack)..after about 20% I get the exclamation mark in the triangle telling me its failed. I was hoping to log on this morning and find the sbf ready to upload
I have the french SBF installed and greyblur/root. - I havent tried it, I doubt it will work on the french SBF. I really didn't realize how screwed we bell guys are without a factory SBF to work with. I feel like we get shafted out of all countries that got the atrix.
I just got my battery life issues sorted out, So even if i were able to try it, I wouldn't want to, But maybe there are useful fixes in it for the developers. We are getting custom roms for the ATT phones. Hopefully bell and international are soon.
I saw a post on motorola's forums from a guy who has a bell atrix that wants them to post a factory sbf for us so that we are "on par" with other countries around the world. i agree.
Should we stay on 2.1.1 and wait to flash the modem only or is this version better than 2.1.1
I hAve a bell atrix..

I am/was rooted and I was able to do the update. Just a bunch of fixes in it I guess. No major changes except for the faster upload. That's nice
You will have to re-root after installing it though. Gingerbreak works fine.
i installed the french sbf to get grey blur going so i'm guessing update won't work...

I'm thinking of at least flashing the new radio after work today though. People seem to say it's better than the one shipped with 2.1.1. I'll keep checking these threads though to wait for more comments.
Thanks for sharing your comments and experiences, guys. It's always very much appreciated.
I Didn't say it wont work for the french SBF, I just haven't tried.
I'm at work right now and can't have my phone go down at all, or i'll get fired. Which is why im not just jumping in and testing it.
Can someone confirm if it works or not with the Telstra SBF? I'm not on stock sbf, im greyblurred. If it does work, i'll re-sbf this thing to 2.1.1, and run the bell update.
I think my issue is that i'm rooted/greyblurred. So unless is flash sbf, and then try, i doubt it will work here.
I tried to run this over the French SBF, but was unable to.

I took the Bell 37.23 update this morning.
My root was gone (I had originally rooted using GladRoot 4.3) and there was no longer any /osh/sbin/frozenfish.
I re-rooted my 37.23 using Gingerbreak 1.20 and it worked perfectly.
EDIT: just ran Speedtest.net mobile in downtown Montreal (great reception quality) and got 5737 kbps down and 2335 kbps up
Can I run the update even if i have froze all the bloatware? And will I have to re-freeze them after the update? ¸
I am kinda new to android but have a good experience in modding other mobile os (webos, wm5).
Thank you
quick question
i have french sbf
can i restore stock bell sbf to get this update
if yes where can i get stock bell sbf

There is no way to go back to ICS.
The Mobile Hotspot app works just fine under JB as it did under ICS and GB. The SQL database hack still works, at least it still works on mine, my wife's and my sister's D4's.

I am not rooted, or familiar with that process, I didn't want to brick my phone, what is this SQL work around and does it require being rooted? And what are the dangers involved with rooting? Also, is there a concise guide to rooting a Droid 4 or the SQL workaround that can be linked?

First off, rooting will void your warranty. As a user in the UK, that warranty was of no use to me anyway, but if you are a Verizon customer, then it's something to be aware of.
If you are happy with that caveat, you should be able to root your phone using the Razr Blade exploit available here... http://vulnfactory.org/public/razr_blade.zip
To get the hotspot working, you need to follow the first two steps here... http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-4-hacks/208266-how-wi-fi-tether-droid-4-a.html (the item number may differ, the important thing to look for is the Entitlement Check entry).
Hope this helps.

Steve.

New JB update method - you can go back to ICS but only if....

Saw this on the Android Central forum, thought I'd share it here. I have not tried this myself, but the OP, SamurHL is a trusted developer and source, the creator of House of Bionic.
!!!WARNING!!!
THIS IS ONLY FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE NOT ALREADY TAKEN THE JB UPGRADE. YOU WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE IF YOU HAVE ALREADY UPGRADED YOUR BIONIC TO JB AND YOU TRY THIS. I'M NOT KIDDING.
Furthermore, this is not my hack. I am not responsible (nor is anyone else) for you monkeying about with your phone if you break it.
SamuriHL said:
Re: DROID BIONIC Jelly Bean Update
So, thanks to timmy10shoes (one of my Bionic mentors), we have a new method for people to use to get to JB. All of you (including myself) who rushed to upgrade are going to kick your own @$$ now. Trust me. Using the cdt.bin from the 246 FXZ and using it to replace the cdt.bin from the 98.72.22 FXZ, you can then use the House of Bionic's FXZ Keep Data option to upgrade to JB. Big deal, says you...I'm already upgraded....so what....Ah the skeptics. The big deal, says I.....say you don't like JB or can't live without root. Fine....put the 246 FXZ back into the House of Bionic and downgrade away. "WAIT, WHAT??!! I heard, FROM YOU, that I'd brick my phone doing that!" Yes, YOU will...cause YOU took the update and didn't use this process. Therefore your security is updated. Using THIS method, however, the security is NOT updated and you can happily downgrade to your heart's content.
I take NO responsibility for those that try this. This is a USE AT YOUR OWN RISK and I will not provide ANY support for it whatsoever. But it has been confirmed to work so long as you follow the quite simple directions EXACTLY.
A word of warning...those who took the JB update already, don't bother. You're screwed. You WILL brick.
