Hello guys.. Hope this is the right thread...
I have decided to buy my first BUDGET windows phone after watching the previews of windows 8.1 ( rumored to be released in June, 2014)..
So as a budget device i have funneled out 2 device of my choice.. Lumia 630 (comes with 8.1) and lumia 625(upgradable to 8.1???)...
Things i dont like about lumia 625 is its screen quality ( based on youtube reviews) and no on screen nav bar (630 will get one)....apart from this this is a perfect choice due to its front cam and flash...
things i dont like about 630 is that it doesnt have a front facing camera and flash.. But the screen quality seems to be better than 630.. and the on screen nav bar and most importantly the quad cores...
i get it that all cant be acquired at the same time in a BUDGET device...
So i have finally decided to buy one on the basis of the CPU... 625 has a dual core and 630 will get a quad core..
So, will there be a HUGE performance difference between these two due to the extra pair of cores on 630??
Will buying 625 be a good investment in spite of its bad screen and dual cores???
Is there any ACTUAL difference in performance between 625 and 630 ( in my country 630 is not available for testing.. so any insight with hands on experience is welcome)
And last but not the least which of these two will be more future proof??
I'd expect the 630 to be more future-proof, but the 625 is good for at least the next two years or so, I expect. Well, it'll be well behind the curve by then, but that will be true of any budget phone. The 630 will probably be respectable a bit longer, though.
The lack of a flash would really irritate me, as I use my camera's flash as a flashlight all the time. Even on phones with actual xenon flashes, Nokia usually includes an LED to act as a flashlight.
The performance difference will be there, but it won't be huge. Most things that are CPU-bound won't benefit much from more cores. There are definitely exceptions, of course; for example when multitasking, but the usual limiter there is the RAM.
The screen on the 625 strikes me as being largely aimed at people with bad eyesight, honestly; it's the kind of thing my parents might like but the low PPI would bother me a lot. But then, I care a *lot* more about screen real estate than most people. Your typical user with a high-resolution phone turns the effective DPI down a bunch to make the text large enough to read and the buttons large enough to hit.
Not entirely sure what you mean by "on-screen nav bar". If you mean using software buttons that are technically part of the screen, I don't think that'll make much difference; all Windows phones have the same set of buttons right now anyhow (although I've heard Microsoft is relaxing that requirement).

thanks for the informative answers...two years is a more than enough great deal if windows supports lumia 625 for that long ( atleast the 8.1 and the next version) ... as u have mentioned the performance difference wont be THAT huge so i will surely be buying a 625... front cam, flash ( i also use it as a light source in emergencies) these things are too precious to give up for some pure black display with higher PPI... thanks..
OK.
Looked at it again, I think you're definately better off buying the 625
They'll upgrade your softwares soon
The 630 improvement is badly thought out and executed... The 625 is actually better built.
And it's still Nokia.
Go out and but the 625

definitely buying 625 thanks....
Hi guys sorry again for bothering... how is 820 for a choice??? its only a bit more pricy than 625 but seems to have better hardware.... release date is though a lot older.... any ideas???
Well Lumia 820 is same old as Lumia 620. If you want better screen, better cover quality than Lumia 920 or 925. If you aren't interested in new latest device, than Lumia 920 be good choise and cheaper.
Lumia 630 Q
Can anybody tell me, is lumia 630 wp cracked?
I mean, can there be installed any Android ROM?

Hey XDA Users Should I buy the Nokia or the Galaxy S5
If you want to go with windows phone get the htc one m8. If you want to go with android go with the lg g3.
Without more information about how you use a smartphone (or how you would like to use one), whether you're already invested in either the Android or Windows [Phone] marketplaces, and what kinds of things are important to you... there's no way to tell you.
The 1020 has by far the better camera, and will probably have better battery life.
The S5 has a bigger and better screen, and more features.
The S5 has much better specs (but Android needs better specs for a good experience than WP8 does).
it depends...
It highly depends on what you want, galaxy s5 probably has more features better battery backup (the difference is marginal though and depends on usage) but lumia 1020 has a better camera and a more stable OS.
What do you prefer, Android or WP. I use lumia 925 and i have used Android before. I prefer WP now but it has its own limitation which however should not be a dealbreaker. I prefer WP for its simplicity, stability and its improving everyday

HTC has got a poorer camera compared to other high-end devices, find lumia 930 instead. i have little or no objection about lg g3
Don't buy either. The 1020's only benefit is the camera and they're releasing a new 1020 like phone within the next 4 months most likely. The rest of the hardware in the 1020 is far from impressive. The 1520 and 930 camera is not better than the Lumia 1020 camera.. but it IS better than the S5 camera, by quite a margin since the Cyan update! Only to get better with Denim. Remember the Lumia 1020 has a few other drawbacks too, like a really slow camera (amazing pictures, but that thing is SLOW).
The S5 is a phone with a lot of partially functioning gimmicks and Android. It's only a consideration if you REALLY need specific things Android offers over WP8.1 But since 8.1 and 8.1 Update the list is shrinking rapidly. The LG L3 isn't much different from the Samsung S5 honestly, besides having a little less bloatware and a different setup for camera and all. Also the Samsung is a little smaller, which I personally prefer. 5.1" is really the maximum for me. I also prefer the amoled of the samsung over the LG screen. Sure the LG has a lot of pixels, but battery suffers for it a little and the difference between the samsung and LG .. I just couldn't see clearly enough to overcome the benefits of the amoled screen. And you won't notice the difference between 3GB and 2GB of ram. The LG is a phone that fights with specs, where they don't matter all that much for real world performance.
The HTC One M8 For Windows Phone (wtf name) looks OK, but it's also quite a lot more expensive than the 930, while offering very little benefits. If those differences are important enough for you, go for the HTC. But me personally, I hate the HTC design as it's way too geeky, while I love the green 930. Also camera is quite important to me, so that makes the HTC not an option anymore (the camera really is awful compared to Galaxy S5 and Lumia 930).
Like many I was a long time Android user and for some really weird reason I suddenly came home with a Lumia 925. After using that for a while, I just can't go back to Android. But if you're not spoiled by WP yet, your options are still open. I wouldn't hesitate for a second anymore and get a Lumia 930. It obviously offers everything the 1020 does and a lot more. Couple it with a DT-903 with the breathing light and it's the best you can get right now. (http://www.nokia.com/global/products/accessory/dt-903/)
Thanks
Thanks for all the replies but I am going to stick with android I just need help with the best android phone should I get the s5 or the 1+1
Or should I wait
To get the Note 4 Cause the Note 4 looks amazing in battery and performence :highfive:
Where are you guys
Hmm? no reply in a while oh well I guess the Note 4 it is then :good:
Note 4 or lumia 930 is the question you should be asking
And it's a tough choice but probably the Note 4 wins

My house phone's better than your iPhone.
I think Lumia 1020 is outdated. You should consider recent models like 930 or 830.
hey guys.
so basically what I am using right now is HTC one M7, with the pink tint issue, I also have the lenovo p70 but in an attempt to root it it kinda got messed up not to mention that the HTC one M7 is better in every espect so. . the pink tint is really starting to get over my nerve, there was alot of moments where I really needed to take a pic of something or a group pic and the pink thingy totally ruined the experience. I can finally afford to get a new phone, a TRUE FLAGSHIP PHONE after the M7.
here is the catch the HTC one 10 and Huaewei p9 are both available locally and their prices are. with the current currency exchange.
the HTC one 780$
Huawei P9 480$
yes its really cheap here compared to the prices in europe, thats why I'm seriously considering the P9, my sister has the ascend G7 and its really nice and not bad at all, way nicer than the lenovo p70.
ideally I want to get the htc one 10 but having to deal with the pink tint issue I really want to get a smartphone with a good camera this time since seeing the reviews on the htc one 10 its camera is not really on par with the competition, the another reason why I'm still thinking about the p7 is the 3gb Ram instead of 4gb Ram at least whats available here. I really want to get a smartphone that would last me the next 2 or 3 years. also don't even get me talking about the samsung galaxy s7 since its priced at 1000$ here, just ridiculous.
so what do u guys think I should do.
P9 is very fast phone and it doesnt lag at all and the camera is good too but samsung and LG camera's better that p9
Sent from my EVA-L19 using XDA-Developers mobile app
Well here's the thing, if you go to the p9 forum and ask if you should get the p9 people will probably tell you yes
You want/need one right now so why wait? Of course there will be better devices but the real question is what features are important to you. IMHO smartphones are pretty much figured out by now and the differences between generations are minimal. After the xperia z3c I wanted something:
-not out of glass
-about 5" screen
-a cool camera
-sd slot
-USB C
-flat back, no camera bump
-resolution not higher than 1080p
And money is an issue for me too so.... the p9 is only 500 francs here (=500$), it's just the perfect device for my needs. I suggest you make a list like this and see what devices match most of your needs.
I'd say the p9 offers the best price/performance ratio of any smartphone out there right now. Maybe the one+ three can rival it when it comes out.
Just a question, P9 Lite or Honor 7 people?

In terms of camera, I find the P9's camera to be excellent in good to average light and not so good in low light! One other area the the S7 is better is faster camera startup time and less shutter lag.
I think most of these issues can be addressed with a software fix, but not sure how good Huawei is with updates.

Can't tell you take this one or that one, it's up to you but I am/was nearly in the same situation, here's my situation atm:
I've been using the M7 for 3 years now and I'm in love with the design still now. I also got the purple tint issue with the camera but within the legal guarantee period I managed to get it replaced by HTC.
But unfortunately I got some battery issue with it for several months now(it shut's off around 25/30%). I sent it to China to get the battery replaced.
I expected better design from HTC but the 10's design is not really my cup of tea (too far from M7 and not in a better way imho). I already manipulated both devices ( 10 and P9 ) and the 10 didn't attracted me at all. The P9 on the other hand seemed gorgeous to me(titanium grey with the black camera bar atleast). And honestly that's the only reason I choose the P9 over the HTC 10.
Sometimes you can say if it's about the price, get the cheapest even if the one that cost more can give you better things though you're going to change it soon.
In my case this doesn't really apply. The reason is I don't care about the price as I tend to keep my phone more than 1 or 2 years. I never really chose my smartphones because it was cheaper than another or because I wanted to show off my high priced phone. If one device catch my eyes I look for their overall performance. If it's good enough I try them to decide if I keep it or not.
So here I'm for two weeks now with the P9 . I got back my M7 too monday aaaand it still rocks
I ordered the P9 on amazon(~550€) to try it for 30 days. Now I've the choice to keep the M7 with it's brand new battery or the P9.
As I still don't know which one to keep, if I had to compare with the M7 here's some of plus points for me, it's personal (keep in mind that the m7 is a 2013 flagship and the P9 is a 2016 flagship, three years separates them) :
The fingerprint reader, blazing fast, can keep secure apps from friends/family w/o having to type password or whatever.
Slimmer.
Almost same size(little bit taller) as the M7, I don't really feel the size difference.
Fully charged in 90 minutes with a quick charge 3.0 charger. The M7 with the same charger takes up to 160 minutes.
Overall battery life (though there's 700 mA difference between the two devices so I guess it's to be expected). I can go out without to carry a powerbank with me( for now atleast)
Battery drain almost nonexistent compared to my M7.
I can finally zoom on pictures I take ( :victory: ) and they are enough good for smartphone photography.
If you're a Sense fan you can get it on the P9 too from here some says . I personally used Nova launcher on my M7 so the experience is almost the same for me.
Can't feel any weight difference neither
etc
As you can see, no real plus point that can help me decide to abandon my loyal M7. Except two things : the fingerprint reader and the battery life.
If I had to add something in your choice between the P9 and the 10:
For me, the power we get nowadays in our flagship smartphones is rarely used to it's full potential. Thus no need to go grab the most powerful processor with the most gigs of ram IF the rom/system is well tweaked imho.
Games on mobile is ****ty ! Only time pass/loss games are worth playing on a smartphone. And that's because there's no physical button (don't tell me you can plug/connect a controller, you ever tried play a game on your smartphone on the subway with a controller?). If you want a beast that can play every game you can throw at it, play it on your portable console which has the required physical buttons and specs or better just play it on a console or pc
The HTC's new UltraPixel technology is still not on point trust me and the cameras are smartphone cameras. End of discussion. If you really need good pictures, go get a good compact(around 600€) or a dslr because there's physics barrier that neither HTC neither HUAWEI can break.
They have both the same size battery, again it depends on the tweaks.
Maybe with the 10 you'll get updates sooner(good) as HTC tend to become nexus phones by diminishing the Sense footprint and become more stock(not so good imo) with the new Sense interface.
You might get a better community support with the HTC than the HUAWEI.
bla bla bla bla bla bla
That's all I can say about these two and I think I can be applied to almost all other flagship of this year(, last year, ... :crying: )
Maybe my reply can help you, maybe not. Just listen to your heart

1st of all thanks alot for your long and detailed reply, I wholeheartedly appreciate all the effort u put into writing all this, and it helped me alot especially the part where u said that a smartphone will last you 2 years or more so that price is not an issue. I liked that alot
2nd sorry for taking along time to reply to you, forgot to turn on E-mail notification for this thread.
3rdly after doing some research and the fact that a relative is mine is coming from the UK after 30 days I have a good chance of buying a phone of Ebay or amazon.co.uk and sending it to her so she bring it with her after testing it of course.
there is a comparison on youtube between the P9 and s7 camera, the P9 selfie cam comes on top but the back camera is better in the galaxy s7, and to be honest paying 500$ for a phone with 3gb of ram is not justified for me.
now I'm considering to candidates the unlocked S6 active which I can get for 330$ in UK and the asus zenfone max which is 180$, a weaker phone but with a massive battery which appeals greatly to me.
I don't think I'll ever get the htc 10 since its 700$ and its just not justified, too expensive especially when there are plenty of candidates that do the same stuff for far less. whatever I choose I'll update the thread with pics and thoughts, cheers

Sorry if this comes across as rude, but I've got to ask this. What the hell are you doing with your phone if you feel like you "need" more than 3gb of RAM? I mean I get it, it's better in general to have more because why not, but in my daily use, where I never close an app on my phone, I always have 1-1,5gb of RAM free. Now, granted I don't game on my phone at all because mobile games are not worth it (for me), but otherwise my daily use is really heavy and for the past ~1,5 months that I've had this phone I haven't had a single hickup or any hangs or slowdowns whatsoever.
Now, as to your original question in this topic:
I prefer the Huawei really. The camera is fantastic, even though it has its downsides (low-light photos are not that great), but hey, its a smartphone camera. What can you expect? If I need some actual performance photography-wise, I can always take my full frame DSLR with me. If we're talking about aesthetics, I prefer the Huawei since in my opinion it is one of the best-looking phones out there right now. Of course that's highly subjective and all so that really shouldn't affect your decision in any way. All in all, I think the P9 is a great device for it's price and Huawei have clearly exceeded themselves with this one. What I think you should do is actually find some place that you can at least test those devices you're pondering and seeing if you like them, because no matter what someone tells you is "the best phone ever", in the end it comes down to what works for you.

Thank u for the reply. And u are absolutely right 2gb of ram is more than enough for now.
I just want to update the thread and say that I bought a Zenfone max 2gb ram version. For 230$ couldn't be happier its smooth with marshmallow its camera is adequate (I have DSLR for events) it battery lasts me for 3 days of moderate use, Asus ZenUI is much nicer than htc with alot of helpful features and toggles. Its build quality is premium and I can charge other phone with the coupled USB cable.
As I said I can't justify paying 500$ - 700$ for a flagship that can do what a 200 phone can do, I should mention I don't game on mobile so that cut down on the cost. Also for some reason I find the zenfone touch more responsive than htc one.
Thank u all. Let's see for how long this Asus will last me ?

Hey guys,
I'm planning to purchase Nokia 8 copper colour now. I googled about it, quality and features seems good. But when I saw the development in xda, I was little shocked. So, just wanted to know if it's worthy to be purchased. I'm open to suggestion and kindly share your experience with the phone... Thanks in advance...

I have purchased my Nokia 8 this March. Other than the camera, the phone has a superb quality and performance. I have found that the noise on the photo taken from Nokia 8 is rather high, and focusing on images take a little bit longer, so it is quite hard to take a quick snap if you wish to. However, such weakness can be recovered if you have installed the Google camera from Pixel. Other than that, it is a superb phone with good quality and fast update.

IT depends on the country where you live, but in most places you can get a Sony Xperia xz1 or honor v10 for the same price. Both with better standby battery life and unlockable bootloaders. The cameras of those phones are also a bit better.
Everything is great here , even the camera if you use google camera you will get very nice pictures , but the only thing i dont like on this device is the design, I like the new screen aspect ratio

To be honest, the camera is not as good as the flagship phone available in nowadays (or even at the time it released). The noise on the photo is visible at night time (sometimes even in day time). I can only say that the camera is just about average compare with the mid-tier phone.
The battery life is okay to me, but I always turn on the battery saved mode and turn off the Glance.
I hope this answers might help you to make up your decision.
I bought mine a few weeks ago and have been loving it since. I came froma Moto Z Play so I had a lot to consider before buying. First, battery life, no Snapdragon 8xx can come close to the Snapdragon 6xx series. And also stock Android experience is the best experience for me. So I'm left with Honor View 10, Nokia 8, or wait for Nokia 7 Plus.
Nokia 7 Plus will have a great battery life nut has gorilla glass 3 and no OIS.
Honor View 10 has better camera and battery life but has EMUI and a Kirin processor (even though it's a at Snapdragon 8xx level). However it does support project Treble, so if you wanna root around it should be easier.
The Nokia 8, which is good but has subpar camera and subpar battery life. But considering how small the battery is and how powerful the processor is, it does have a better battery life but would've been better if Nokia added more. And camera is fine at least better than my previous phone as I just needed some decent photo. Google Pixel camera app made it waaaaaayyyyy better.
I hope it helps you decide.
I find the battery life superb, most days i have over 70% left with moderate use or 40%'ish with heavy use without WiFi using data only.
Here in Chile it's price is way affordable than other flagships from Samsung, Sony, Motorola, LG, etc. So, having that in consideration, plus it's hardware and software is the best deal for what you get.
Battery life is great
Screen quality and brightness in sunlight also great
Sound i find it really good
Camera is good too, maybe it isn't way good at night as other flagships with lower apertures, but it gives really decent pictures. Video is good also, very good quality and stabilization is decent enough. And it's surround recording sistem is really nice.
So hardware wise is one of the best options you can get here for it's price. It's a Nokia so you would expect a sturdy phone, almost unbreakable lol.
In software you get the latest updates really quickly.
Maybe it doesn't have unlockable bootloader easily as other phones with Snapdragon SoCs, but having cutting edge updates almost same as Google pixel devices I would say maybe it's not necessary to have much development. Things I've noticed over the years is that most developments that triumphs are those that make ROMs as stock as possible.
So if you like stock Android go for it I don't thing you'll get disappointed. But if you are a camera maniatic , maybe you should consider some other device
So those of you who bought it, what are your impressions? Is there anything you don't like about the phone?
Hi, I have the 128GB Tencent version since almost a month.
So far can't be happier with it; great screen, audio, performance, design, software and battery life. They really improved on the OG ROG phone in every aspect.
Google services and all my apps work flawlessly, and although I'm not an avid photographer, the cameras seem decent.
Extra bonus points for a headphone jack and the LED lights (both the small front one and the rear flashy one).
128 GB seems more than enough for my needs and thus far the Chinese ROM hasn't been bothering me at all, after some small tweaks.
In summary, the best phone I've had until now (and I pretty much owned every worthwhile Android flagship every year)
Only issue I have is that the accessories aren't available yet. Other than that, best phone I've ever owned in terms of everything. 128gb version here as well and I just have a portable micros reader I plug into the bottom port for serious emulating.

How about portability(weight, size), jeans pockets fit while sitting, and one handed mode?

It is quite heavy, and not too svelte, but I come from a Huawei Mate 20X which is a lot larger and more cumbersome.
The ergonomics and size are fine, but the weight is noticeable in pockets.

I bought it from the Liaow online shop. Not the cheapest source, but quick and reliable. And they're usually one of the first having stock of just launched Asian smartphones.
How is the brightness in sunlight?
I own the 512gb 12gb CN Version. Quality of the phone feels nice. I like the weight and how it feels in two hands and in one hand via gaming. My only complaint is the brightness. Wish it was a bit brighter.
Just waiting on the twinview dock II then I'm set.

Because of this question I went out to my driveway and decided to test it out myself. This is probably one of the better screens I've seen in direct sunlight. The one thing that's probably making a difference is the fact that I have the dark theme on the phone and it makes it a whole hell of a lot easier to be able to view the screen while I'm typing or doing whatever in my driveway. Full sun, 82 degrees, and I can read this screen perfectly fine without an issue... Sans the fact that I need bifocals in my old ass is not able to read this small ass text as much as he used to be. In short, this is probably one of the best screens I've seen dealing with the ability to display text in direct sunlight.

My first impressions are that I really like the weight, the touch response, speed of everything, and holy crap! The audio is amazing coming from the phone without headphones. I genuinely hope that the modding community does get around this phone. if not, I'll have to get rid of it and get the actual international version so I can get some additional or better band coverage, but for I live in Ohio so far bands 2 and 4 have not been an issue and I think that I saw 1900 show up, but that was just for a moment before one of the other bands picked up. This battery is amazing. there's some tweaks you can make to it within the system settings to allow it to last longer and it provides you some estimated times until it is about to die oh, so that's really nice. I don't want to reach you my cabbage since I already posted some comments in the USA Buyer thread, but feel free to ask me any questions about it if you don't own the phone if you want to know some information about it or off of it.

Best phone review ever!
How is camera quality? How is the 2x zoom without a dedicated telephoto camera?
Any impressions on usage on North American bands? T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, ATT? My contract on Verizon ends tomorrow lol.

Not sure what will show in the images. I went outside, found a flowering plants. 16:9, HDR Enhanced.
...185624=1x
...185715=2x
...155814=5x
...185844=8x
Sorry for the blur. Did my best to set still.
They're set at default resolution... 4k x 2250 I think. Like 4MB each. HDR Enhanced required a little more time for exposure. If you think additional pics or a vid or two would help, lemme know. I'll see what I can do

I left VZW with the intent of getting and using this phone on TMO. If u do this, get to Costco and save youself the $25 SIM crap. They don't charge anything when you switch.
If there's a real world test you want, lemme know and I'll see what I can do.
I'd call you if you want so that you can hear the phone quality yourself. PM me if that's the case.

My mate 20x has way way better camera
Even oppo realme x has way better camera than rog 2
Rest is amazing
I recently bought rog phone 2 from flipkart in India. My device is working fine. But i noticed there is one problem with the phone and it had happened many times that it automatically reset its network.
Like it automatically turns off wifi ,both sim signal for 10 sec and turn it back on again. This happens once or twice in a day at any period of time.
Sometimes network goes blank and i need to restart the device.
Please help me out if anyone finds the solution. Or people having the same problem.

Keep in mind that this camera is capable.
And just port GCam onto the phone like I did, the Night scape images with GCam are almost equal to iPhone 11's Night mode.
It's NOT CRAP.

How does the wired headphone volume and sound quality compares with mate 20x?
Love it! I got mine for $300 shipped brand new, since I had $200 in ebay gift cards! So much bang for the buck!!
Awesome phone
Fast, responsive, the fastest 4G i've every experienced, and that screen! The FPS is also fast too.
I sold my Note 10+ as the ROG2 just kills it in almost every way. Probably the only thing that was better on the Note10+ was the triple camera setup. But TBH, for what I do with photography, its perfectly fine - and there's always Snapseed for minor corrections.
