Preordered my ONE from mobile phones direct.
Will this phone be Mobile branded or unlocked and unbranded.
I figured, because its from a third party store and not direct from TMobile, there's a chance I'll avoid all the bloatware from the carrier.

Contract mate. Says delivery in 4 days. Would be nice for it to be un branded, just with the mobile sim.
Yeah, that's something I would like to know too lol...
The only time you will get a branded phone if is you purchased directly from the mobile operator. If you purchase through a 3rd party retailer (Mobile Phones Direct, Mobiles.co.uk, Phones4U etc...) they will always be unbranded and unlocked.

Bell's website indicates their Incredible S supports the 850, 1900 and 2100 3G bands. Is this accurate? HTC has a habit of selling 900/2100 devices in Europe and 850/1900 in N. America, which means no transatlantic 3G. Certainly the case with the Desire HD and Desire Z, which is why I sold my Z.
Its the real deal. Negrielectronics.com is selling the bell phone unlocked. Bell and virgin mobile Canada both offer it without a contract for 499.99!

it's true, most new NAM HSPA devices that bell carries include 2100 bands as well for global roaming

Negri has a hefty markup though - $140. I'll wait until there's confirmation it can be SIM unlocked by the usual online merchants.

Other than Negri, do you guys where else to get the Bell (s740A) version?
And how would one go about buying the phone from Bell. I tried it but they ask for a plan and/or a bell login name.
I got my IS from Bell and unlocked it. 3G works perfectly on Rogers, so should it on Fido.

For those who bought the IS from Bell, dis you all purchase them in-store, did you buy them online (other than negrielectronics.com)?

lol I should have thought of wireless wave. Got ripped off by Bell, paid phone + activation fee + one monthly plan... but the total is about same for a unbranded IS.

does that mean the C6606 will only be sold through T-Mobile or will it be sold unlocked as well through USA's Sony store?
If its carrier locked or unlocked sold through carriers like T Mobile, the bootloader is usually locked. and I personally dont like it when carriers add their brands name on to the phone ><

I have a weird question here... Does t-Mobile allows outright purchase?
I am from Canada and I'm planning some vacation in the States this summer, I wanna buy it there but I am not aware about how the carriers work there.
Some stupid carriers here do not allow outright purchase.
Also, I heard about a law that makes sim unlock illegal in the States, is this actually true? If T-Mobile allows outright purchase, do they unlock the phone, if so, does anyone know the price.
If I manage to get the device, I hope that T-Mobile logo is on the protector and not on the phone... I hate carrier branding on a phone
Also, do you have any idea about the Z Tablet release date?

Yeah they do. They just restructured their plans and you actually get a lower monthly plan cost if you buy the phone outright. Not like AT&T where it doesn't matter.
As to your last question couple of months.

Hi all
I have a Telstra (AU) SIM locked HTC one and they want $100 unlock it
After paying $700 for the phone I'm a little short of cash so am wondering if there is a free SIM unlock option?
Hi Ipguy,
Where did you purchase the phone from?
I work for Telstra, and can confirm that handsets we sell outright (excluding iPhones ) aren't locked. They certainly have Telstra 'bloatware', have the APN settings for WAP and MMS, but will take any providers SIM straight out the box.
The only handsets that are locked are iPhones and handsets packaged with a pre-paid SIM..
Can you tell me who advised it would be $100 to unlock an unlocked handset?

Well that's the thing, the phone came with a Telstra SIM in the box, and I was given a $60 credit on the phone if I signed up to Telstra, which I did to get the discount and then I cancelled the account.
So the salesman didn't do me any favours from what I understand
Just sounds like an in-house promo thru JB's. Honestly tho, just put another providers SIM in there. I could bet $ it'll work fine without restriction. Just be sure to remove the Telstra APN's and replace them with your own providers' for WAP and MMS.

Handset I have from EE is carrier locked, and bootloader lock alllowed is NO.
Doesn't look to be the end of the world, when a lot of Sony stuff relies on the bootloader being locked. DRM keys and that.

Hey mate, would you be able to do me a bit of a favour? I've pre ordered from Phones4u for EE and Phones4u have been saying that EE haven't approved the device and aren't shipping it etc! Will you be able to put up some proof of where you got it from and you've received it so I can shown to Phones4u? Those sods are delaying orders till next week and giving this excuse! Thanks would be very grateful if you could do something!
Handset is direct from EE.
I ordered over the phone on 5th September.
All that come with the phone is a shipping note.
I am not prepared to post a copy of that on a public forum. The note mentioned that I should have received a DSR letter too, but didn't.

Can you please try this to see if the bootloader is unlockable or not ? Thanks !
First, you should confirm that it is possible to unlock the boot loader of your phone by checking the service menu. In your phone, open the dialler and enter *#*#7378423#*#* to access the service menu.
In your phone, tap Service info > Configuration > Rooting Status. If Bootloader unlock allowed says Yes, then you can continue with the next step. If it says No, or if the status is missing, your device cannot be unlocked.

Unfortunately no Sony Store in the Toronto area has any unlocked phones in stock, or if they did they are hoarding them
Supposedly the stores will be getting their unlocked phones on Friday and stores are doing pre-orders now. This whole "launch" is pretty discouraging - as it seems like there are not that many phones available - my local store is only getting 4 black phones - I'm number 5 so won't be getting one until the end of October - which is when the next shipment is expected. I wasn't even told there was a pre-order system setup - even when I visited the store beforehand trying to get a glimpse of a display model. There wasn't any then, but there is one now - so my trip wasn't a total waste of time. Finally got a chance to see a working model.
Locked phones are available but seem to be selling slower - either that or they got more stock. Maybe Sony Canada didn't anticipate there would be demand for off-contract phones?
If anybody knows of any Toronto/GTA locations that still have open pre-orders I would like to know. A friend just picked up a Rogers locked one today.

I would advise against getting a Bell model - unless you're getting a discount. If you're paying the full price that Bell is asking for ($699 + tax), you might as well get the factory unlocked version directly from Sony for the same price. Rogers has the purple colour locked down if that's your preference, so only Black or White available from other sources.

Thing is, I've gotten pretty desperate. I contacted Bell and in order to be able to use the phone in the US, the carrier does need to unlock it. That's an added fee of 60 dollars from Bell. I also contacted a Sony store in Markham, ON and they said that the earliest I can get an unlocked one from them would be a month or so from now, or until their next shipment.

Just buy direct from Sony man - no need to pay extra for carrier unlock, and no carrier bloatware. Bell is selling it a $699, then you pay $60 to unlock, then there's the 13% Tax - that's about $860.
If you can't wait that long, see if you can get it from Rogers since they are selling it for $599 off-contract. At least you save a bit.
I myself will be getting it from my provider because hardware upgrade - picking one up tonight.

Alright - just got back home after fighting rush hour traffic from Yorkdale Mall.
This whole experience has seriously cast doubts as to whether I will ever purchase another new Sony phone again.
I have been given so much misinformation both over the phone and in person its getting ridiculous. It seems that they really want you to be physically at the store so that they can upsell you on other items - I was told over the phone that the box doesn't contain headphones, so that I should go there and pick out one or maybe even a bluetooth headset. All this when I just simply asked about the pre-order status.
The latest I have heard was that all stores are taking pre-orders and the warehouse will be shipping out units to the stores as they are placed. I had one salesperson tell me over the phone that the black unit was heavily back ordered (negative inventory), while the white was still available - only to get to the store and told that it doesn't matter - they're both backordered. They can't even guess at when I would be getting a phone. I was also told that the 18th was the official launch date and they weren't allowed to release the phones, which coincides with other info from this thread. The problem is that I was also told today that the Upper Canada Mall location had inventory since yesterday and they just sold the last one today!!! WTF? I've been told that I would get one next week, end of Oct. or even next month - this has all been extremely frustrating.
I really wish they would just allow you to pre-order online and have it shipped to the store like a normal retailer would.
AhsanU - if you want to put me in contact with your friend I can let them know when I receive my phones (2 on pre order), or ask them to get to the closest Sony store and just put down a deposit and hope for the best. Bell and Rogers are notorious for overcharging for everything, whereas Telus is a bit better, but they will all take advantage you given the chance. The unlocking fee is only supposed to be $50 but I'm not sure if they included the tax already. Why do they insist on locking the phones when you're either buying the phone outright or signing a contract that stipulates financial penalties when breaking said contract. In Asia, none of the phones are locked and companies actually compete with each other. I just hope there is a special place in hell for all these telecommunication executives...
