Hi guys,
Is there any way to disable the hidden/test menu in ICS dialer when we press 0 (zero)?
The default LG ICS version has this behavior and I need (in some cases) to dial 0 before the contact number.
If I press 0 as the first number, the menu appears.
However, in IZS ROM (by Huexxx) it doesn't happen. Maybe he changed something.
So, my question is:
Do you know a way to bypass this issue?
Or at least do you know what is the name of .apk that controls it?
Regards.

Marvel has the hidden menu as an AROMA item during install. If you omit it (un-check it), it doesn't get installed. AROMA installs the following apk files when selecting "hidden menu":
/system/app/HiddenMenu.apk
/system/app/HiddenSIMUnlockManu.apk
/system/app/PhoneTestMode.apk
Y can un-install those and see if it does its magic.

Thanks for the answer... but my problem remains!
Even without the menu, the dialer doesn't print 0 as first number! (IZS rom does)...

Will the contacts allow you to save and dial the numbers with a preceding zero?
I don't remember whether Marvel ICS was based-on V30B, V30C, or a combo of both. Wherever the dialer was "ripped" from, the target audience didn't use preceding zeros I guess.
For the interim, until tantrums get some time, can you try a dialer app from the Play Store? If that works, it should take care of your issue. There are many listed.
I'm wondering if you can somehow put a bogus character in front, then follow with a zero. Commas are used for pauses. Will a "+" sign do anything bad? Holding down the zero key until the plus sign appears, then following it with a zero seems to work on my end.

Well, I tested stock original V30B (almost untouched, by nooby), and the same "issue" happens. Then, I guess Marvel is based on V30B.
However, IZS from Huexxx doesn't have this issue. I can use 0 always in front of my numbers. However, IZS is based on V30B & C...
I would like to know what is the app responsible for this behavior. Maybe I can change files between the ROMs to solve this issue.
I tried LGPhone2c and LGContacts3, but none solved it.
I will try your suggestion...
Thanks.

Yes, I can put 0 before my numbers in contact list.
The issue is only related to dialer...

From the dialer, try adding a "+" (a long zero press) before you input the zero.

Maybe it works, but this way I'm putting "3 zeros" before the number...
I can't test it now because I don't have a number with only one zero to call (I usually travel from Portugal to Brazil, and only there I need one 0 before the numbers).

No, you're putting a "+" then the required number of zeros.
The long hold on the zero button just gets the "+" to post in the dialer, as it's a secondary function of the zero key. Or are we talking about something else?

When you are dialing, if you use + it means 00.
So, if I put +0 it means 000.
Don't you agree?
+ is the international symbol for calls. It substitutes the 00 before country codes.
But, in practice, I just would like to type 0 directly, without any "workaround"...
Just wonder what is the dialer file in v30...

My apologies.
I had no idea what the "+" was for. I'd rather just type two extra zeros than long press a zero to get a "+". Whoever thought that up never talked to me
I just wanted to insert some null character so you could add the zero. In my modem days a comma was a pause, and there were different "*" prefixes (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vertical_service_code). Inserting a null character or code would be a temp fix. I don't think this will work.
You'll have to try a dialer app for now, or save all those numbers in your contacts.
Now I have an interesting item for you... Heh.
I have Marvel 12 installed, along with the hidden menu.
When I press a zero as a first number, I don't go to the hidden menu. It just displays the zero and waits for my next number to enter.
Even if I type a whole (bogus) numerical string with a preceding zero, it still dials with the zero.
Two zeros is the same.
There is something else amiss here. Could it be the installed keyboard? I run the HTC IME. Maybe the SIM card?
This is the only solution, hope you understand...
When you press 0 and it shows Hidden menu is not a rom problem, but some kind of problem with the Flashing process, probably different radio, or some kind of flag that is not set properly in the flash. This flag can not be reset by using factory reset, the only way to do it properly is to flash a full rom, but not a nandroid, I believe SMART FLASH works, then reflash the rom of your choice.
If you have this problem any nandroid you reflash will manifest the same bug, only some roms, probably that are heavily modified don't manifest the problem, but try 30A, 30B, 30 C, and you'll see the problem persists indiferent of the rom flavor...
SO, ONLY SOLUTION is to FLASH using SMART FLASH some FULL ROM including baseband... Or so I remember fixing the problem in GB 20o 20s.
Got this issue with IZS 0.1. But it dissapear when i flash IZS 0.4 kernel.

That makes sense, and certainly would explain the differences between two similar installs.
Huexxx had a "Pre-IZS" base band included with his IZS ROM thread. It's the base band I've been using. Reflashing or flashing this base band using SmartFlash should fix the issue then?
I heard that problem only from ppl that didn't make a facory reset.
A workaround would be dial the country calling code first i.e. +49 for me (Germany), +44 for UK, +34 for Spain or +351 for Portugal.
As SaschaKH said, do a factory reset. I had issue with 0 and # keys in dialer with v20s too, and factory reset solved it.

i had that problem today for the first time since Marvel v11 rom was out.
last night i decided to try IZS, can't say i enjoy it coz i had a FC of the setup wizard which didn't solve after factory reset, so i decided to put marvel v12 again, and today few hrs ago, this dialer problem started, every time i press zero or # the phone goes to hidden or test menu.
so i flashed marvel v11 and try to make a call and again the same thing, so i did a factory reset, and it seems to solve the problem or now.
let me ask you, do you think it may have to something with the framework-res file ?? or maybe something in framework at all?
i'm asking this bcoz i noticed it happen after i changed the framework-res.apk file.
im just fishing here coz i switched that framework file few time already and no problems like that b4.
in my country if you want to dial to cellular or to another area code, you must have that zero working:silly: all those numbers start with zero.

Not sure at all. Dialing zero isn't something that I do in my country. I tried it for fun with phoney numbers stating with zero, and I never went to the hidden menu.
It was said in an earlier post to do a factory reset. I always do the from the hidden menu after a new ROM install. Usually, I do it from the hidden menu, then go back and do it again from System Settings too.
Hi there, I was giving advice but came home and my girlfriend reached to me with the phone in her hand and told me: "Give yourself a call!". Surprise, surprise, the same problem.
Ok, after 3-5 flashes and the same amount of unsuccessful nandroids (What's up with that?), I fixed it with a factory reset from recovery.
I had a huge amount of problems after that, including apps that don't install, don't download, don't connect, and never experienced something like that after a factory reset :'(. Probably it had something to do with downgrading from ICS, (and the custom bootloader I had installed for that) but that is a completely different story!

There is a serious bug with the built in phone app , I was wondering whether any of you are suffering this.
When you dial a number manually and hit the arrow to delete one of the digits, the phone goes berzerk, starts dialing loads of 0pw00's and locks up.
Same happens when scrolling through the contacts on the phone app (not the standard contacts app) and tapping the forward hardkey to change from say a Mobile number to a Home number for the listed contact
Nop just tried it all is good.
Not experienced that problem, but i have experienced another problem in the phone app.
when you select a contact in the phone app, and push either left or right on the scroll wheel to select the next available number in the contact, i.e. business, home, mobile2, etc, it will just keep scrolling until you reset the phone. really annoying if you want to select a number other than the default number for the contact.

Now I can't reproduce it.. hmmmm

Got another two annoying bugs:
- the clock that show minutes after minutes non stop (1Minute per second)
- a part of screen not updating on the SMS/MMS application
Okay the bug has returned sadly... After I spent hours reinstalling all of my apps.
The problem is not limited to the phone app, it happens when I tap any key on the SIP or press any hardware button - a bunch of text is pasted.
I created a txt document and tapped a button so I could copy all of the crap it pastes,
it is attached
This is driving me nuts and makes the phone unusable. Im certain this is the fault of software rather than hardware. Can anyone help?

To me it seems like one of the 3rd party apps that you installed is causing this. If it was me, after a hard reset I would test it after installing each app to find the guilty one.

Same here. But luckily I don't have to reset the phone. By pressing some buttons randomly I get it out of the loop. But it's annoying all the same! Doesn't happen every time though... that's quite strange. Don't know why it goes wrong, so I can't do anything about it.

Could be a third party app, I thought. So curiously I went through my installed apps list. First on the list was remote desktop mobile (the new version with the device mapping feature which doesnt actually work) - So, I uninstalled that and voila, the bug has disappeared.
Bad news is that I really need remote desktop. Perhaps I installed a bad CAB. Anyone have a decent cab that is proven to work?

Okay I know this is really stupid thing, but it's annoying. In my Google Contacts I have my numbers saved without hyphens. Simply because I think they look ugly. Anyway, the problem is, I can't seem to save new numbers on my phone without having them.
Like I'll start typing: +1416... Then all of a sudden it turns into +1-416-...
I'll try and delete the hyphen but it deletes the number in front of it as well, hence can't save number without hyphens. If I don't save the number without the 1, then it works fine. But I like having all my numbers with +1 on them. Anyway, is there a solution to this?
Really? what did the hyphen ever do to you?

if you really really want to try this:
1. go to the name field and type out the number ... so +1416******** whatever it is
2. then hit MENU + A

4. now go to where you enter phone number
5. hit MENU + V
6. see if that pasted the number without the hyphens

I recently had my old phone number ported to my new network, but in the Settings -> About Phone -> Status screen the phone number is still showing as the temporary one assigned by the network while I was waiting for the port, which was different to the SIMs original, and it changed then.
Is there anyway to get this to update? I've tried restarting the phone, with and without the SIM in but it's still showing as the temporary number. The port has definitely taken place as people have phoned me on my old number and I've phoned them and it's shown as me.
Any help greatly appreciated
No-one know then?
It sounds to me like this may be something that is programmed into the simcard and doesn't change when the operator changes the number (or something like that). I doubt you will be able to fix it yourself, seems to me that this is either due to some delay in the operators system (unlikely after 4 days) or its just coded on the simcard and doesnt change. Maybe there is a program to edit that somewhere but I have no clue.
I've had almost the same problem since the beginning. There's no number on the info field.
I had a new contract and a sim card for the phone, but there was no number. I also have no idea how the number is defined in the field.

I rooted and it was fine so I am happy there but I still do want to update the number. Recently I sent my friend a picture message and she got it form my temporary number and it annoyed the heck out of me, a few minutes later I resent one and it was fine so I guess it was a tiny mess up. I wonder if going in and buying a new sim or something would help because if it does and the sim is $10 I'd be willing to do that.
Alright. The screen broke on my first Captivate because I was clumsy/stupid. Put the claim in for insurance, got a new phone, set everything up. Nice shiny phone, what could go wrong? For one single contact, it 'forgets' the area code when I go to message them from contacts or reply to their messages. I have to type in their name and choose the number from the drop down list. Very annoying as this is the person I text the most. I've seen two other threads on this subject, but there was no mention of a cure. I've tried deleting and re-entering the contacts, to no avail. I tried using GO Sms, it has the same problems. I have stock 2.1, running LauncherPro -in case that matters.
I think I'm in the clear to bump this, as it has yet to be resolved and it has been a month. Please. anyone? I'm certain I'm not the only one to experience this problem.
I just started putting the area code into my contacts' phone numbers. I did it on my PC in Google's contacts app, though.
If only it was that easy. The area code is in the contact's phone number! I click reply to a text and it will often disappear! Thanks for trying though. I remember reading once that it was a bug in the actual contact management itself, but I thought the great people here would be able to come up with a solution.
Edit: Actually, I am adding this contact to google contacts as I type, maybe your suggestion will work after all! I'm no sure yet do to the sporadic nature of the bug.

I think these methods worked for many people. Use one:
1. Do a full factory reset.
2. Open messaging
click new message
Add offending contact to the send list
click to type in the send list and hit backspace until you have deleted the incorrect phone number.
then type in the correct phone number.
type a test message and hit send to fix the contact permanently.
3. Delete the contact. Ask the contact to call you. In the call log, long press and add to contact
Adding to Google Contacts didn't work after all. I am thinking of Flashing a custom ROM tonight once I decide on which.
Thanks for the help though! It is really annoying.
Hello,
Does any body know how improve Speech Quality (EVRC-B)? I made some research and I have not found that the application (ProgramMenu.apk) has applied these changes. It just keeps them in internal variable for later display, but really it does not change the value for the baseband firmware.

It is exactly what I am talking about. It is does not work. I checked ProgramMenu application code and I had found that it is does not change vocoder. It is just save value in internal variable. Phone is not rebooted on exit. And after manual reboot the vocoder value restored to default

Confirmed, it goes back to the default EVRC.
However, there are a couple of messages that pop up when you get to the "Field Test Screen" menu, one of which says "Failed to get CDMA RX Diversity" and the other says "Failed to get HDR RX Diversity". Anyone know what these mean?
From stock dialer ##program (using the numbers of course) verify code is 000000, 06test menu, next, next. Changed evrc to evrcB seems to stay until reboot at least. The two RX diversity settings are there also and set to off by default. No idea what they do, would love to know more about this. Suspect if you put them on evrcB might stick, but just guessing. Really only guessing.

It is the same menu as ##387 and actually it is does not work.
I just checked the logs and found out that I was wrong. The program really sends a command to RIL to change a codec. The only problem is that the setting is not saved after restart
