[Q] Walkman app FLAC, bluetooth - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

First of all, can someone confirm whether it will play an album as a flac file via cue.
Secondly once connected to car's bluetooth playing the above flac, would it display on the car dash the particular song title rather than the name of the whole flac file?
Thirdly, what is the bluetooth car phone performance, does it connect to the car automatically once it's been paired originally. recent calls, phonebook options?

FLAC title's still don't seem to be completely supported, you'll most likely just get the file names.
I recommend you to convert your stuff to 400Kbps (VBR) AAC's. The difference in sound quality should not be audible at all on the Xperia Z (I didn't) and if you do the conversion with Foobar you don't lose any metadata.
I haven't verified it but I'm pretty sure single FLAC+CUE doesn't work.

Is there anyone who can actually confirm this?
Also what about the second, third question in the OP?

Just tried, no cue support in Walkman app. Can't help with car/Bluetooth questions, not using it.

Thanks.
Would it play the flac file at all, even without cue support?

Yes no problem with that, FLAC is supported.

Its been a while.... But did someone here try playing FLACC files via DLNA?
I always get that 'could not play file' while MP3 work fine.
Using BubbleUPNP also works fine.

Make sure the flac files are 16bit, as it will refuse to play 24bit files.

1. I have 2e recovery.
2. No want downgrade losless qualite my music(2.1 playing everything without problem).
3. rom - Goodbye RFS 0.2 (another 2.2 have this problem to)
I've got same problem with playing flac files... not all, but some of them, mainly Hemi-Sync records (90 mins long). With 2.1 no problem, with 2.2 phone crashes!
[OFF TOPIC/] Flac on a portable device is just .....
FLAC is scientifically not worth the hard disk space, if your only goal in encoding to this format is to listen.
The reasoning behind this fact stems from the intelligent nature of the lossy encoding process. If you take any MP3 or AAC file of standard encoding rate (192K or higher), and polarity inverse it with the same file as a FLAC, you will hear very little difference between the two. This is because even though you've taken a lot of information out of that lossy file to make it so compact, the frequencies taken out of a compressed file are frequencies the ear does not respond well to. No human ear can detect the frequencies removed from any 320K MP3 file because the frequencies are either extremely high-pitched (well above 22k) or extremely obscure and irrelevant (a very specific frequency like 12.5008k or something like this).
Anybody who says they can hear the difference between a standardly-compressed MP3 file and its FLAC counterpart is either lying, suffering from placebo, or needs to tell me where I can get a drug that would heighten somebody's senses that much.

And we all know that the sound that come out from our SGS is far from perfect that why supercurio try to improve it but listening to something over 192Kbps on a mobile device is just waste of space. It's like saying that you want to use a 1920x1080 image on your sgs screen and that you can tell the difference ..... 192 and higher is not for listening.
[/OFF TOPIC]
It doesn't work because it's Goodby RFS and sztumpy has given not enough memory to the system for flac music that might be why with a 20MB file it freeze the player
I have same problem on all 2.2 My solution is to use another player. It's working fine on player pro, and now on poweramp. There is one tip that maybe help you: player pro is crashing too when you try to play flac if you browsing your music library by albums. When you switch to folders without album arts is ok. I'm no longer investigating this since I'm on doc and kalpik froyo v5.1 and poweramp player. It's tiptop now.

Yea i would disagree with that, you will definitely hear the difference between 192 and Flac is you use high end IEMs, even more if you listen to music through a good full size amp with speakers. Well that's my opinion at least
Back to the issue at hand, my flac files work fine and i'm under jp6 ("vanilla" jp6)

Thanks for the thought but this won't work for me... unless the converter is an android app? The .wma files I'm trying to open are voicemails from work that come through my email and thats the format our exchange server puts them in.

Yes with stock video player, I have this issue. But, you can always play with a another player e.g. MX Video Player, it works flawlessly.
Mx Video Player also can`t play the audio file for some mkv files, only when using software decoding. I think it`s because the stock video player doesn`t know the audio codec used and doesn`t have support for software decoding. But yea, using an alternative video player should work.
BSPlayer free, does it with dts as well
Using DicePlayer atm, very good, audio plays, but sometimes the audio isnt correct and makes a high pitch sound, i'll try out the other players soon
chris198810 said:
It's not a "fresh" topic for playing mkv on Android device like this Xperia z no sound output. Some people have recommend a pile of video players like MX player, Dice player, etc and some others recommend to decode/encode the MKV files to a common video files like MP4 for easy playback. I think the no audio issues mainly depend on the DTS audio codec contained in MKV files, which is not easy to handle for most of the android devices. I'm the Xperia Z user, and have some other files like AVI, FLV, MPG and VOB files to Xperia Z for free playback on the go, so I choose to get a video convert tool to fast reformat these files to a Xperia Z favorable format that won't come up any problems. I found the way to put MKV videos to Xperia Z without any audio issue from Goolge.

The problem is - do not transfer them using iplayer. Just copy the files to your SD card and play them with MX Player. If you're having problems with playback, switch to software decoder. I've watched WMV files on my XZ ( and other Android phones ) without any problems.

In the upper-right corner, when using MX Player, you have a "button" labeled "S/W" or "H/W". Press it and select S/W for software decoding - it might help with WMV files.

Maybe there are some problem with your source video, but you also could try to convert them with video converter such as handbrake or aneesoft.

iPlayer downloads contain DRM (otherwise there would be no way of expiring them).
Refer to the "What is sideloading?" section of the iPlayer FAQs (I cannot post links). There are no Xperia phones on the list of compatible devices. There are no phones listed at all in point of fact (although it is possible the list is out of date), and I don't think any of the devices that are listed are Android-powered. It states you need to start playing the file before transfer to obtain a license, but you still need a player on the phone that supports DRM.

had this response from sony...
Thank you for contacting the Sony Xperia support centre.
We apologise for the issues you are experiencing when trying to play WMV video files on your Sony Xperia Z.
We can confirm that the Sony Xperia Z does not support this type of file. Unfortunately we are unable to support third party applications and would advise that if you are experiencing issues with the "MX Player" application, that you contact the software developer directly for further information.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
When i search the net regarding BBC iplayer download to xperia Z i get this APP site :-

will this convert DRM code?

You could give VLC for android a shot, WMV is listed as supported:
DivX/Xvid
.Flv
.Rmvb
.Avi
.Mkv
.Wmv
.Mp4
and a few other uncommon video formats.
It is beta, yet still my favorite player.
Kind regards, Stefan.

Flac aud1o?

Hello people.
Im trying to transfer FLAC files to the phone but it doesn't let me, does the phone not support flac?
What does it support that got the same audio quality as flac?
I realy enjoy flac over mp3 320kbps, i have very high quality earphones and speakers so i hear the difference.
Thanks ahead!
Are you unable to transfer or unable to play flac files? Can't you download Flac audio players from the Google play or apps that support such format?

Well it seems like Nexus 6 doesn't support FLAC or lossless files at all.
Like the hardware doesn't come with special coding for lossless support.
Also i couldn't find any player that got built in encoding for flac.
There is PlayerPro and PowerAmp, while they do support flac, but only if the phone supports it from hardware, they dont have built in encoding as they will not find installed flac files. What do i do? anyone help me please :/
