Hello.
Im doing all the safe steps before flashing a new ROM, like EFS Backup.
Now its time do to a nandroid backup.
Since nandroid backs up everything i have a question :
If i do make a nandroidbackup after i have flashed speedmod kernel and if something goes wrong with the new ROM and i want to restore, the phone will not boot cus when the nandroid backup was done i was runing speedmod kernel.
Or im wrong ?
Idk if i was clear enough

Umm pretty much. You can use Corn Kernel instead if you want the nandroid to boot. Or you could make a nandroid before flashing speedmod.
Although, when going back to stock (for w/e reason), it's better to flash stock KK4 without bootloaders with Odin than restoring a nandroid. That will boot and will only need you to flash the kernel again if you wanna try another custom ROM.
So i dont need the nandroid.I dont care about the settings or apps
Im not going to make the nandroid than and if something go wrong ill get to stock by odin right?

I guess you got some reading to do then. Download mode if what your phone has to be in to use Odin (while phone is off, hold vol down+power).
Recovery mode is the mode you use to flash zips, wipe cache/dalvik, factory reset and such. (vol up+down + power)

Oh well, basically if something goes wrong, the bare minimum is to be able to get in download mode. Sometimes it doesn't work with the buttons combo so a JIG is used. It's rare but it happens.
i decided this :
Flash speedmod, enter CMW mode wipe data factory reset, wipe cache partition, install zip from sdcard.select CM10 stable.after the flash reboot system now.
after the boot ill turn off the phone.Boot in recovery and flash the Gapps. than enjoy the new rom.
Am i correct ?
If something go wrong or if i sell the phone stock i should get odin one click and flash stock 2.3.5 ?

You will lose applications and don't forget to wipe cache/dalvik if you face any problem in you phone after installing GB rom by going it in recovery.

i've been having this problem since i switch to ics.
when i try to revert back to abyss4.2 so i can try to install other ics rom, i get stucked.
what works is i try to restore my GB nandroid backup, then it reboots and hangs, i switch it off, then boot at recovery and walah!
im back to my GB cwm, then i can install abyss4.2 and proceed with ICS rom flash.
that's how i always do it, i hope someone can advise a better way..http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/redface.gif

Flash stock rom using pc odin or mobile odin...
I recommend to flash ICS stock rom...

Hi
Situation is as follows. Phone is rooted, running stock rom with Hydracore kernel (can't remember which one, but not the most recent one).
Missus was using the phone, it suddenly froze and then rebooted, and got stuck on the Samsung logo.
I can get into CWM.
Now what to do?
Do I reflash kernel? I just don't want to brick the phone.
Try flashing std version of hydracore from recovery
if same error then wipe cache and data.

I presume if I flash Hydracore standard I should be OK?

OK so re-flashing hydracore isn't working. Have wiped cache, but that's not doing it.
Am loathe to wipe everything, missus will be pissed, she's in a bad mood already. Having to reset everything is probably going to tip her over the edge.
Okay if you are on hydracore kernel, then nandroid backup
Try wipe cache and data, if everything fine restore data only
If not works
Then re flash stock ics, Reroot and flash hydracore
You can restore just data from nandroid backup.

OK - all solved, had an old Nandroid backup that worked. I did do a nandroid backup when the phone was freezing, but that nandroid didn't restore, kept on getting an md5 mismatch.
Anyway drama over.
Wife is reasonably happy and no longer threatening to get an iphone.

Hi guys. I got a real weird problem or so.
I was on a kingdroid rom based on 4.0.4.
Everything ok, no problems, until I turn off the cellphone to take the SD card. From that moment my note just dont turn On.
The thing is I was able to go in to recovery (nice), so I flash a safe kernel. All ok.
And then after a full wipe I tried to flash a rom, and here is the weird stuff: After flash any rom, the cellphone go into restart, everything is new but surprise, am still in Kingdroid v7, even when I flash a 4.1.2 based rom.
I tried many many times, and always the same. I canĀ“t flash a new rom.
My kernel is the Philz one.
Hope someone knows what is happening.
Did you wipe data dalvik cache? If you still have issues you can wipe /system before flashing new ROM (recommended)

I can full wipe, and format/data, but when I try Fromat/system, recovery get freeze. :/
You mean Format/system, right?
So weird. Every time, the same, am stuck in Kingdroid. :S
It concerns me that you can't wipe /system
Hopefully someone can chime in here
you can try flashing from diffrent CMW recovery version.. try flashing speedmod 3-15 and reboot recovery and try to fullwipe and install..
i had weird problem when using diffrent CMW like abyss. i had quite similar problem..
try Speedmod 3-15. it is safe and flash speed is faster

mmm.
When I try format/system, recovery freeze and the phone restarts. And the Rom is formatted, so I have to put all my info again (select lenguaje, config wifi, config google account, etc). And still in kingdroid.

I tried Speedmod kernel, full wipe, flash alliance rom and after restarts, Kingdroid again.
The only thing that change was the kernel. So i have Philz again.
I will try with another kernel.
Is like to have a briked note

Yep. I will do that.
now I lost recovery.
The phone just get to "samsung galaxy note gt-n7000" and stay there.
I can go on donwload mode, so I will try to flash a stock rom.
Thanks guys. I will report tomorrow with news. Hope works.
Do that stock GB (pre rooted) though not ICS...in PC Odin... that way when you wipe you can do it safely in stock setup without having a custom kernel...
Then just flash whatever with Mobile Odin

I tried with four different roms.
So I tried with Odin, with no problems in the process, but when the phone restarts just get to "samsung galaxy note gt-n7000" and stay there.
Now even the batterie freeze
are you sure that the Odin flash was successful?
if yes, the now try to boot into recovery and do a factory reset, reboot again
Ok. good news. I tried a few times with the GB pree rooted of dr.ketan, with no positive results. So I tried with a diferent one, from sammobile. Is a stock from my country. This one works.(a little hope). Well, now the phone is crazy. super unstable. But, is something.

Yep. Odin flash was successul. With green colors and all. But at restarts the phone was freeze and no chance to get recovery mode.
As I say in previus post, now the phone turns on,but is unstable. Is a stock GB rom.
I get a lot of error messages like:
Android.proces.acore has stoped.
com.android.phone has stoped.
So the phone is unusable
ok great.. this is the time when you HAVE to somehow get into the recovery mode and do a factory reset.. coming from a ics rom will give these errors.. just needs a wipe

Ok. I flashed the Pre-rooted again, and now I am in recovery mode. OMG xD
Question. IS safe to do a full wipe in this kernel? or do I flash a safe kernel, like speedmod??
Am gonna search a new religion to believe or something after this.
Edit: Ok, after think about it I did it a full wipe. (I am on gb so no problems)
The phone is OK. fully working!!! omg guys. Thanks so much!
Am gona do a resume of my problem, maybe gonna be of help for someone.
Hi
Ancient history - I rooted my Galaxy Note a few weeks ago with a Philz kernel. I didn't really know what I was doing, but it seemed to work fine. This morning, my phone was shut down, and wouldn't start up, sticking on the Samsung screen. I read other threads here, and it seems like to fix this, I need to flash the same Philz kernel using Odin when in download mode, then start up in recovery mode, mount as USB and extract my files, then restart and reinstall files, and I should be back to more or less where I was last night. /Ancient history
I've installed Odin, started the device in download mode, found the correct .tar, connected the phone, and started the process in Odin.
When it got to restart, the phone is again flicking the logo screen on and off, now with a yellow triangle and an exclamation. Does this essentially mean I need a different kernel? I was hoping that reflashing it with the same Philz kernel would solve the problem, but it appears not .
I solved this bit
I also solved this bit. Please see the edited original post for the current problems.

if you already have flashed philz kernel, try to boot into recovery mode with volume up+power+home button. Yellow exclamation is nothing to worry about, it can be removed once you have phone booted up.

Yeah, I found that I can get into recovery mode, I mounted and backed up my USB, and then I did a factory reset. The phone now runs, and I'm finding myself tempted to put in a KitKat rom, because I'm a glutton for punishment.

if you made nandroid backup from philz kernel then flash philz kernel, reboot recovery and try to restore. If you didnt include preload in the backup then that could be a problem. You can do a clean flash for the stock rom and then advanced restore and restore data.

If you tried what i mentioned and that didn't work then you can clean install stock rom and you can extract the backup on pc by using 7zip or compression tool and the reatore tbat using titanium backup pro. I haven't tried this ever but this ia what i was suggested by @nokiamodeln91
