Color sheets / films? - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm wondering if anyone have stumbled upon anything like this?
Since removing the anti shatter film on the front, I've been thinking of making it completely brandless.
It would be awesome with a layer to put on the back so as to conceal the xperia logo.
I do not however want to add any bulk to the device.
So to make this clear, I'm not looking for a case here.
I don't need that.
I am hyper careful with all my devices, it only rests in a soft pocket or on a cushiony surface.
I'm going to have to think of something custom to put on the bottom aswell.
Could live without the "made in china"
Anyone seen this for the z?

Ended up ordering this today

here with the front one on:
Now before anyone shoots me down, let me say this.
I was really only looking for a mirror type back protector, and @tfolix were the only ones I could find that had them. (This will change pretty soon I guess)
The package came with two protectors for the back (one with a cutout for the nfc sticker, and one without), and one for the front.
Became semi disappointed with how the back was almost transparant, subjected to any good or bad lightsource (yeah I know, why didn't I buy the black Z)
I had to test the front.
I knew it would not look good, in the sence of colors and swallowing brightness.
The back does look more glossy, and looks like the front when light is sparse.

Any picture of the back?
How does the screen (front) look in real life when it's on? No color wash-out?
What about this for the back? http://www.spigen.com/cell-phone/other/sony-ericsson/sony-xperia-z-skin-guard.html
Edit: just found this too: http://dx-box.com/sony-accessories/xperia-z/xperia-z-skin-sticker.html

It's really hard to take a picture which represent real life.
Since it's so reflecting, every shot is different.
It only becomes like the front at nighttime.
This will most likely not be an issue with the black one, maybe even purple.
I recommend this to no one!!!!!
-It eats maybe about 15% of the brightness
-A mirror out in the sun, you do the math
-Screen gets as you can see in the pics, pinkish/greenish hues (hard to explain as I can easily see it's not colors outputted from the screen.
This changes with viewing angles. Just check youtube vids for mirror protectors.
Viewing angles also becomes much worse.
And yet... I'm not taking it off just yet
-The feel is better than the anti shatter film and the glass by itself.
-It looks so daaamn sexy
-The "oily" colors are mesmerizing (this is VERY subjective)
-These days I'm testing battery usage, and use 10% brightness when inside.
I don't need to squint or strain my eyes to see anything, even in well lit rooms. (I swear!)
This is but of course not even near the truth when outside. (I manage fine though when switching to auto)
I NEED A CAT SCAN!
In other news....
Thanks to you i started searching for "stickers" and quickly came over something that's definitely gonna ruin my weekend:
https://www.intoroskins.co.uk/buy-case/custom-skin-for-sony-xperia/65044/
Gonna end up ploughing through billions of pictures I'm afraid
This is the second time I'm saying this, but I dont think i I'm gonna use anything for the front.
It comes with both front and back.
I want to have a flush surface. Will most likely be annoying to feel the sticker everytime I slide in and out of the screen.
Will still customize them just in case.
Going to get two three sets, and will post them on here when they arrive.

Took a cutout from this one

Xperia Z in silver... not that looks nice!

Down to the verdict:
- Material is good stuff (3M Vinyl)
- The pictures were high resolution, and came out very detailed
- The Fallout and TRON back pieces became darker then anticipated (Weird, on the fallout one, the black part was supposed to be red!?!?)
- An absolute pain to put on! Incredibly hard to align as there were no way of adjusting while applying. It just stuck like crazy (Even though it came with the typical instructions of applying withouth pressure so to then adjust it afterwards)
Because of this, I managed to stretch the front one a little after trying for a good ten minutes of fiddeling with it.
End result: ripping it to shreds in unmatched rage

You got rid of it? Why? It looks good & unique, I can't even see anything wrong with the placement
Good way to make the front of the screen white though (if you have the white phone of course)!

I'm not sure I understand you right. What do you mean by "make the front of the screen white"?
The one I ruined was the front "hazard" type skin.

As in the white phone isn't white all over the front bezel, so the sticker would make it look like the ZL

I mean it is possible just to create an all white cutout for the front to appear like the ZL, not you personally.
Hope that makes sense!

I hate lockscreens!
That, my good sir, is a homescreen. I had it for a couple of days before i started doing some real theming. Its just a random image (I'm sharing it on the previous page) and two zooper pro widgets. I highly recommend Zooper if you haven't tried it yet, very customizable.

Am I the only one who wants my color display to be in color?

Now please don't misconstrue this post.
I truly do appreciate the ROM bakers we have here, and they have put out some truly awesome stuff. Dutty and Q, I've already used both your ROMs, cause for some reason I just can't leave it alone. I've actually tried 3 of Dutty's and the 1.2 of Q's.
I've had cell phones since it was regular black numbers on a grey screen (like a digital watch), then to the green LED, then, finally to a colored LED, and then to a full color screen. I really don't want to go back 20 (or whatever) years.
Anyway, my dilema is the black design of the ROMs. I'm no ROM chef, I barely have the patience to reconfigure my device after flashing. But am I the only one who wants my color device to have a colored theme? I came from the Hermes, and tweaked the hell out of alll the black ROMs for that to get some more color into them. On this one, I'm a little more hesitant to tweak them back to color.
Is there a quick way to get the black out of the cooked ROMs? I'm back on the ATT ROM for now, and I'm hating it again (after only a day). Again, nothing but the utmost respect for the chefs with more patience and skills than me, and a big thanks to you guys again.
But, anyone else want their color device to remain in color?
On black background the white text is perfectly readable. On ultra-mega-cool-supa-dupa coloured babe-magnet screen you will see LSD effect.
My 2 cents

Hmm ultra-mega-cool-supa-dupa coloured babe-magnet screen with LSD effect? Makes you wonder why aren't we doing this with more roms.
I like my black WM6 theme. It's... I dunno... it's only emphasizing the potential of the device, I think. It's a psychological thing. It's if you have a ferrari you'd drive calm, respectable. Not like all those civics that scoop around like crazy kids..
Same idea here - if it'd be a cheap ass cellphone for $25, I'd have it pimped out. Since it's a $400 business machine - it has to look solid and calm.
Just my opinion.
You can pretty easily add your own backgrounds and menubar themes. You can also get skinning software to give even more possibilities. Search for the homescreen screenshot thread to see various themes and skins people use. The most popular theme is a sedate black, but there are plenty of other colors out there.
If you want an easy way to add color, check out: Wisbar Advance 3
http://www.lakeridgesoftware.com/
I love it! Easy to change themes with as much color as you want.

I agree. The Kaiser is about function and performance not flash. If your looking for eye candy then get an iPhone. If you want a business class multiple use device then the Kaiser is for you. I love the black themes. You can put any theme you want on these ROMs. The ROM is just the OS. Just like windows it is up to you to make look the way you like to use it. It just happen to be the most popular look for the cooks.
there are literly thousands of themes for pocket pc's bpth cooked roms and standard roms. they use the same themes and you can install them as easy as downloading them to your root directory and selecting them through your today/theme settings, have a look here http://www.pocketpcthemes.com/new.aspx for free themes

Jeez did I ever strike a chord, or what?
Why can't it have function AND form? If I wanted an Iflop, I'd have gotten one. I'd be first in line to buy those anti apple stickers, beleive me.
I'm not talking about roller coasters or flowers or hot chicks. All those things are great (some greater than others). I just want some color without having to hack like 200 items to a color to get it. Like make the black- blue, or red or whatever.
I understand I can put whatever theme I want on it. My thing was, with flashing once or twice a day, I'm tired of messing with color settings, and just wondering why people like turning the color display monochrome. Is your home computer colorless too? Do you watch movies exclusively in black and white?

I prefer black and glossy really over bright and shiny
Wow.
That is pretty ironic, isn't it? LOL.
Still got some color in it, but largely comparable to the ROMs we are talking about, huh?
I can't really talk, I guess. I don't even have wallpaper, just a plain black screen. But still, I don't look at that screen all the dang time. I guess that is what gets me... every time I look at the phone it is black and dull. The plain screen on my home computer is so I don't have added clutter.
if you want colour use SPB mobile shell its got plenty of options for colour themes, while your at it tweaks2K2.net has a color editor for your device colors thats quick and simple. no need to do any major changes and it can be changed regualarly in a matter of seconds. also SPB pocket plus have extended themes that are quite nice. or you can use a them editor to make your own themes however you want them. the choices are endless as to how you setup your Kaisers color settings

I was using SPB when I first got the Hermes... but got away from it with the advent of the HTC home plug in... it did what I wanted and took less space, also I thought it slowed the device down less. I was running the Mobile Shell, Pocket Plus, and Weather apps. Do they slow the Kaiser down too?
I'll check the tweaks2K2 thing, thanks.
they dont slow it down at all really. the newer SPB plus4 is less memory intensive and has a smaller footprint than the SPB plus v3. I use both the mobile shell and spb plus4 and pocket weather and dont experience any slow down. on my old wizard it slowed it down a bit but not that bad. the Kaiser doesnt suffer much from memory intensive apps like the old wm5/wm6 TYTN did. that extra ram and rom really makes a difference and the cpu is better also

[Tutorial][mod] custom color correction

first things first i take no credit for the app being used to do this. im just posting this so everyone knows how to do it.
our screen has a little too much blue. i noticed this while in best buy comparing to a nexus s. so lets fix it!
first things first. i have only tested in CM7 pre beta.
--update--
thanks everyone for testing it. it does not work on anything other then cm7 even if you use his tutorial in the link!
-----------
1) install CM7
2) download this app. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9780975/Calibrator-5.1-CM6.apk
3) copy app to /system/app with root explorer or terminal.
4) set permissions (chmod 775 in termianl)
5) reboot
6) look in your app drawer and enjoy.
side note - this disables the default CM7 render FX
all credit goes to storm99999 on his original post for the nexus one. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=745248)
okay so on the top here, there is a real life side by side (thank you photoshop). you can tell which has more blue

down here i have 2 actual screen shots taken within android. you can see the yellow image is corrected. and the white one is uncorrected. our lcd has a little to much blue and this is a nice little fix. here you can really see the effect but it doesn't look right on your "correct" computer monitor
Pretty! Totally doing this!!!
So does this work better than the built in CM7 render FX? (I've never used CM7 so I dunno what this render FX thing is capable of anyway )

i actually have a post about just that in the general section. i think yes because you have total customization. where as default is only presets. the n1 calibrated setting has a hair too much yellow but its not bad if you dont wanna go thought the trouble of doing this. imo this is a game changer for me. the screen is so much more comfortable to look at now.
This should probably have been put in themes and apps, not dev honestly. That aside, im sure this will help some of the crazies people that have issues with the screen

That's cool, I never knew you could alter the coloring. I've always noticed that some yellows on my screen looked kinda green, especially in Fruit Ninja, so thanks for the find!
it's sort of a matter of taste

im going to take a min. to explain the screen shots in more detail. the one on the right is without color correction. the one on the left is with blue turned down slightly. now with these settings the phones colors look correct. where as without them the display is quite cold. the reason it looks yellow on your monitor is because the colors on your monitor are "correct" in a sense. we are correcting the lcd it self and its over presence of the color blue. where as your computer monitor you are viewing this from is most-likely balanced correctly where as the corrected image looks yellow due to the lack of blue. understand? im going to try to post a real world picture.

Thanks. I was stupid to not think about how they were just screen shots. The output of the phone, of course, is correct. It is the screen (like it has been this whole time) that has the issue. Silly me! Thanks for the pics! And by the way, what number on blue do you have it set at?

[FINISHED] Nexus S Full White (Skin + Case + Telus Nexus)

I wanted to make my Nexus COMPLETELY white, so I did it. If you're interested links to the skin are located below, and a white case can easily be bought on-line for a buck er 2. I decided to keep a change log of my impatient behaviour below, if you don't want to read it keep scrolling down a few posts for a review and pics.
Hiyas peoples ! I ordered a Decal girl solid white skin (http://www.decalgirl.com/item.view/76202) and a white silicone case. These coupled with my white Telus Nexus S (http://htc-phones.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/ATT-White-Nexus-S-3G-Android-Phone-1.jpg) will actually make a full white nexus s !
-------------------------------------------------------------------
***** EDIT(Jan 17th):
The skin was shipped today and the case was shipped yesterday.
The skin is expected to arrive in 5-17 business days (I believe Jan 24th - Feb 10th unless my math fails)
The case is expected to arrive from Jan 24th - Feb 1st.
I will post the pics when both have arrived! Frequently check around those days to keep updated on the status . Thank you, bye.
***** EDIT 2(Jan 19th):
Right so I went and checked where they were being shipped from. The skin is being shipped from Delaware and the case is being shipped from Columbus OH.
Both are very close to my location. So close in fact that I could walk from where I am to where they are located, and make it there before the minimum time that the shipment is suppose to arrive.
I'm assuming the items will arrive very early. Perhaps on the earliest day of arrival. It's wishful thinking! Anyway peace, update again when I find relevant information. I have not forgotten to post pics as soon as shipment arrives
***** EDIT 3 (Jan 23rd):
Still nothing yet. Hoping something comes in tomorrow... Next update will be posted when something arrives.
***** Edit (Jan 26th):
The case has arrived!!! An 11 day wait wasn't so bad. I'll post a little review of the case and some pics of it later on. I'm waiting for the skin to arrive before I post pictures and what not. Hopefully I get the skin tomorrow or I'll have to wait until at least Monday :-\. Bye for now
***** Edit (Jan 27th):
... The skin did not arrive today. Hoping it will be here Monday
***** Edit (Jan 28th):
I am becoming impatient . I know you guys are too. If this skin is not here by Monday I will die. As soon as it arrives, I am getting a camera and taking those pics. I don't like waiting so I won't make you guys wait for that. I feel like posting pictures of the case now... I will update again on Monday to express my joy or anger, see you later. (And wow I've gotten over 1k views O.O)
On a last note, I think I am going to leave my "changelog" here. So people of can have future reference to my wait time, and my frustration . I'll probably edited it a little bit, but I will leave it here. The pictures and review will be in the other post I made (3 down from this).
***** Edit (Jan 30th):
Hey guys guess what came today ? Will update pics in a few minutes. 13 day wait not so bad . Scroll down for a review and pics!

A cheap one, but they (white plain silicone cases) all pretty much look the same lol. I'm getting one that looks identical to this

I had a decal skin when I had an iPhone. Installation was incredibly easy, the cutouts weren't that great though. I hear they are better with that stuff now. When I post pics I'll give a tiny written review of the installation if you'd like?
It's finally done . My Nexus is white now ! Okay so for some reviews let's start with the case first...
The case. Pretty big on my phone, I like it. It almost looks like a marshmallow . The cut outs are really nice (and it was only $2!). The bottom of the case exposes a little bit of the phone, aside from that it hugs the phone amazingly well. Noticed a little of a bump near the volume rockers at first, after you stretch the case out it goes away (about 2 days). When the phone is face-down it's nice to know there is a gap between the surface and the phone thanks to the case. I feel like I could drop the phone under "normal" conditions and it would make it out perfectly fine. Overall I give the case 7/10, the revealed bottom irritates me.
Next the skin... Installation was difficult IMO. I'm usually steady with my hands, although I was very impatient so that could be the problem. The cut outs weren't perfect (again I may have stretched out the skin) so the sides I couldn't perfectly align all the edges. When I was putting on the sides there was a lot of space... the skin folded into itself. I ended up cutting it and overlapping the two pieces (you can only see one overlap in the photos). It kind of bothers me but I can deal with it. They're covered up by my case any ways and now the edges are aligned better. There is a cut out on the menu buttons which looks nice when the phone is on, not so nice when it's off. Overall I give it an 8/10. The fact that I had to cut the case to make it fit properly is stupid. OF COARSE the skin was made for the 19020T and I have the 19020A SO that could also be a huge contribution to the dimensions gone wrong. It gets that 8 for nice white feel it gave my phone, I REALLY like it. I could play games and not be irritated by the skin or anything.
If I change my mind on anything or want to make a better review (I probably will cause I'm OCD with this stuff and I realize my review wasn't that amazing), the changes will be above. May want to check in a few weeks for a new review. ALRIGHT so the long awaited pictures.... Here we go !

Here's the White Decal Girl skin.....
I must say, it looks VERY nice on my Nexus! I've been asked a few times already what phone do I have. . Fast shipping and I believe you can even get a free replacement if you mess it up trying to put it on which you would have to be brain dead to do because you can take it off easily to realign should you need to. Once it's set in a day or two it becomes solid and very, very nice looking!

The menu buttons look kind of annoying to me lol. I hope they don't actually turn out like that :S. Also I have the white telus nexus so when I put the skin on it will actually be fully white I'm excited to see how that turns out. That aside, the white is very nice! I can live with the menu buttons. Thanks for posting~!
That looks great. Ordering now.

No prob. Actually the menu buttons is one of the things I like most! It makes the soft keys look kinda 3D. White on white should look super hot! Can't wait till you post the pics! Not too thrilled with the silicone cover. Makes it look much bigger than the phone really is.

Really? Well now I'm a little more excited for it ! haha neither can I! Don't worry I'll be posting pics with the case on and off . I will like the case because my nexus had an unexpected meeting with pavement... and the side is a little chipped. The one time I didn't have a case on too lol
Looking forward to seeing this

XD. For under $15 it can be yours! I've been using it now for a few days. And honestly any "imperfection" I made with installing the skin is NOT noticeable under the case. Finally my phone is white

[Boot Animation] Digital Rain (Matrix) & Call of Android Redux (UPDATE 7/10)

UPDATE:
The download for the Digital Rain boot animation is now a link to the general non carrier specific HTC One themes section. It is more comprehensive and up to date with a few extras. Here is the link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2357926
Haven't had a lot of free time due to work and family, but I managed to rework the infamous Call of Android boot I made a few years back. It is tailored for the HTC one but I can upload an unbranded version for anyone interested in making their own device specific boot. I would say this is what the boot animation I created a few years ago should have looked like but I didn't have the software at the time.
I also present a Matrix style digital rain boot specifically made for the HTC ONE. This one was a little more time consuming and took the better part of 3 months to finish... Apparently it's extremely difficult to find a good quality Matrix font online, it's pretty much non existent. So I made the font from scratch and including it in the attachments for ****s and gigs. Keep in mind that the font is not complete and only has 96 characters. The uniformity is also not consistent between each glyph as I was making this for video/boot animation purposes and not daily use.
Here are a couple gif's to get you started and the attached files. There are mp3's attached as a zip for anyone interested in matching audio. I am not going over the instructions on how to flash/copy/overwrite the necessary files to install these animations as there are plenty of tutorials already explaining the process.
DISCLAIMER:
Any questions, ask. Anyone interested in using it for their rom/project/different device, that is perfectly ok, you have permission too. All I ask is that you give credit where credit is due and hopefully link back to this post for others.

Digital Rain Downloads (UPDATE):
Since this seems to be getting more attention in the unbranded HTC One forum, here is a link to the Matrix Digital Rain boot. I have it kept up to date and added a few extra things to it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2357926
**NOTE**
If you have any problems downloading the zips from the links above, try a right click on the link and selecting "save as".
If your sound does not work after flash, most likely you will need to add a small snippet of code to an xml file. It's easy, just follow the directions below.
Adding audio:
On your phone use a file manager to browse to the folder: /system/customize/CID
Open the xml file contained in the directory with a text editor. Once opened, scroll down till you come across some text regarding bootanimations. The text will look something similar or exactly like ex:

Code:
animation="/system/customize/resource/NAMEOFBOOTANIMTION.zip" />
All you need to do is add a line of text and save, ex:

Code:
animation="/system/customize/resource/NAMEOFBOOTANIMATION.zip" [COLOR="Red"]audio="/system/customize/resource/NAMEOFAUDIOFILE.mp3 />[/COLOR]
As a bonus, the woman in red splash image and flashable zip.

Surprised that there has not been more excitement about these, manually replacing files is easy, but took extra step to create flushable zips. They look awesome, work perfectly! My preference is the Blue. Good job here

I haven't used the knoll light factory yet... Will check it out, nice to see others who have experience with AE. :good:
I wanted the slight blur/low resolution look on the rain in the animation, I was trying to get it similar in feel to the Matrix intro and noticed it had a very similar grainy low-res look to it. I am still going to check out knoll and see what it's all about.

Yeah Redgiant makes some cool plugins if you want to remove the red X cough youtube... Yeah the only thing id say about that is: they did the matrix fly in at high res with 3d cubes to make up pixels it was either a well written expression or autodesk one of them you take your pick. Think it could be done with the holomatrix plugin now but I dont think that plugin was around then. Not exactly sure. But yeah thats why the pixels appear to have so much depth to them its how they created a 3d space to a 2d environment is with 3d pixel effect essentially.. They made the models move with expressions and null objects and then warped them in after effects. Its more of a warping of the cubes bending into code, thats what i remember at least. There are several variations lol what with 3 movies and all. The end flare when it warps into "pseudo reality" would be super easy replicated in klf as well as magic bullet looks has a matrix look i think youll like also...In KLF they also have resolution settings for you lights so no worries there and they may even have a preset of that flare Glad you shared man I like it...:good:

[email protected]#, balls man. After checking the plugin out the other night, got to say it would have made this a bit easier to do instead of a white solid overlay with a couple masks. Thanks man, glad to have more ways to simplify and make **** look clean when making these. Pretty interesting info about how they rendered the 3d effects for the intro, even if it was a pixel shift/warp effect, still good information to have for the future. I've been messing around with blender for 3d, little rough around the edges for an interface, but it works... for now. Any software suggestions or recommendations on the 3d end? I've been contemplating Cinema 4d or 3ds Max

Yeah man I hear that figured you'd like it: I've found that maxon has a much easier interface I've always thought that for some reason. Try some c4d: much simpler. And aftereffects CC has the new cineware engine in it (ie, renedering engine built into cinema4d) from maxon so yeah the two softwares will forever be interconnected from now on at least as far as adobe says. Which I love btw Currently I have autodesk 3dsmax installed as well as c4d and blender but I've never opened the other two except blender once to convert a model into .obj lol. Now I just got riptide so I can do it in c4d. Yeah I've found that most of the gurus use them as paired software. And crackanug also check out andrew kramers videocopilot element 3d it allows you to use trapcode form as a model overlay base essentially in after effects. Willing to help you attain that if you want hmu on gtalk [email protected]
And @ yeti glad you did to lol...I only try to persuade people who I think actually have promise, skill, ambition, Love to see the community grow with true talent.

As soon as I get some free time after this week (moving) I will check out c4d. Needing something other than blender, like you, all I used it for was converting things to an obj and maybe an extrusion for a simple 3d design from a vector drawing. I'm watching the videocopilot vids during some downtime at work, pretty impressive so far. I've watched some of the other tuts, but usually only when I am stuck or need help with some ideas. I'm def interested in learning from like minded individuals and getting new ideas, knowledge and tips. You see a message from letthemfear on gmail, it'll be me. Just a heads up, I work midnights so my schedule is usually a mess.

ZL4.4.2. :good:
Looks extraordinarily busy and incoherent. The Sony logo on the homescreen looks especially bad, the lens flare looks out of place, and when in the app drawer looks pretty awful when behind all the apps. UI elements look pretty meh, the colour gradients scream 90s and early 2000s, the font is inconsistent (the middle pictures in the 1st and 2nd row cause a massive clash between the wallpaper and text). The top notification bar is hard to read - the transparency makes whatever is in the top left of it nigh on impossible to read, as well as the "Sat" being smaller in size then the time. There's a mismatch in layers for the homescreen - the Sony logo appears on top, with the metallic stripes below that, and the lens flare below that, causing unsightly shadows. The halo behind the Sony logo is also not the same shade of blue as the notification bar and navigation buttons.
0/10 would not even go near.
