Have been trying to connect my Hero to my pc so I can fill up my SDcard with music, but every time I connect it to any pc, the phone just charges. I have the stock 1.5 ROM and still the phone just won't mount SDcard nor would it even pop up the option to mount on the taskbar. I have tried to install ADB drivers and nothing. Phone has been reset to factory defaults and still nothing happens when plugged in to usb, just charges the phone and no messages at all! What Can I do? Thnx in advance.
Have you tried mounting on a different computer? to see if it's either the computer or your phone
Yes I have tried on 6 computers. 4 windows and 2 linux, but same thing happens phone just charges.

1. Try different USB cord. Some are made so generic that they only supply power.
2. Check your connectors in the phone. Less likely, but maybe a hunk of pocket lint got in there?
Try downloading USB Switcher from the market, i had the same problem with my phone before and that seemed to fix it.
I have tried with two usb cords, one being the one that came with my ps3 and the other I just happen to come across with
I will try that right now
I just installed USB Switcher and same thing is happening, phone starts charging.

you have to add the widget to one of your screens then tap the widget icon while it's plugged in. then the icon will turn purple and, hopefully, you will be able to see the drive under my computer.
Widget is on one of my screens, but when I tap it it does nothing just stays gray.
maybe reformat your sd card?
You are absolutely sure the SD card is actually inserted into the slot on the phone?
or maybe even try to insert the sd card to your computer some other way..
If none of those options work, you can try loading up RA (hold HOME while powering on) and mount the SD in recovery > USB-MS Toggle.
Assuming you're rooted and loaded the custom recovery.
No no no.. download htc sync from htc. It should fix your problem.
HERE
All cell phones need drivers on the computer to mount your card. The htc ones come in htc sync.
Some phones, like this one, had the htc sync on the stock memory card... Mine didnt though
And windows can usually find the drivers online by itself. Mine did.
You dont have to sync anything or even set it up.
And of course open up your taskbar drop down list, select charge and change it to "disk drive" mount sd card
installing pdanet also installs the correct drivers
And he gets off when someone with good answer helps. lol
I have installed HTC sync on my computer with no luck. Also I have toggle the ms mode in recovery and still nothing, phone just charges. Im planing on formatting my sd card and starting again but can't find my micro SD adapter lol. Once I find it I will post any updates hopefully that will fix it.

Sounds like a corrupted microsd card. You should download the Android dev kit and use ADB and see if theres communication between your phone and the Pc. If not you should look into solving bigger problems than your microsd card.
If there is communication between your phone and computer and you have Adb working, try reformatting that microsd card or replacing it.
I have formatted my sd car with no luck. Still my phone just charges when plugged to the computer. I am pretty sure I have a defective hero, as I have never seen the option to mount the sd on the taskbar. I do have insurance on the phone, but do you guys think the techs at sprint might not want to work on it since it is rooted and has a custom ROM? lol
Forgive me for my Basic lack of understanding on this one.
I'm running os x snow leopard 10.6.4 and when i plug it in usb it starts up a mtp application and only allows me access to pics and as a dial up modem. I would like to be able to mount the disc's to transfer files back and forth. and also when i run doubletwist it tells me to use the drop down menu but when im using usb there is no drop down menu. so no mounting.???
any ideas what im doing wrong?
You need to go into settings, applications, usb settings, and change it to ask when connected. Then when you plug it in choose mass storage from the list of options that come up. Also, enable usb debugging while you're at it

I feel like i'm going crazy here...
i have debugging enabled, i have my phone set to ask on connection.
i use osx 10.6.4.
there is no sign that i have a device detected on my mac.
the phone detects that it has been plugged in. (notifications)
i've gone to the notifications and selected mount.
i've used "adb devices" and get no results.
tried using double twist, nothing shows up.
my phone is still stock.
any help/ideas are appreciated!
Are you on a mac desktop? Mine would only recognize if I use a port on the back, not a port on the keyboard or the front of the machine....i think it's a power requirement thing. Try a different port and post the result.
Also try changing it from ask to being mountable instead and see if that changes things
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using Tapatalk
it's a macbook pro. i've toggled between the "ask on connection" and auto mount. i've selected to mount the drives from the notifications, all with not mac love. however, it seems to work with my windows box (using the usb on the back, not front). I would like to get it working on my macbook though as that is much more convenient (couch + tv and all). seems that mac + this phone is not officially supported? (no drivers from samsung anyway).
any tips/idea/suggestions are much appreciated.
This is what I did for my phone.
I put it on "ask when making a connection"
I always choose PC Internet.
I enable USB debugging.
Plug my phone in.
Then go to the USB notification and hit "mount drives"
Then it is on my desktop!
I am using the aluminum macbook.
thanks for the input. i'll have to try it again when i get home.
an interesting note:
when i attach it to my macbookpro and i have it on "ask" the phone will display the connected notification, but it will not ask.

I think when it is in USB debugging mode it will not work like that. But I always select that every time I can.
But having it to ask, it does not default to anything else. Not sure if it makes a difference or not, but I don't have problems putting anything on my SD card.
yeah, i'm totally not having any luck with this device on osx.
i have 2 usb ports. i've tried both. i think i've plugged in the phone with every different option... with/without secondary sd, debug on/off, mass storage ...
i even tried it in ubuntu running in vmware fusion.
i can confirm that it does work (it works on my work pc [windows 7]) and have decided that there may be one additional thing to try. i have the stock cord at work and i bought a backup from the local store. the connector on the micro-usb side might not let the port fully connect (it's a little fatter than the one Samsung sent with it). i don't know if that could really happen since it does charge and the phone thinks it's got a connection. but as of now seems my only hope.

Don't forget to exclude the storage drives from being indexed by Spotlight or you will get all those .filename files in every directory damn near it.....gah I hate Spotlight sometimes
OK. so, first i'd like to thank everyone for their input.
I have figured it all out. It is the #$%^&* backup cord I bought.
I took it to work where my stock samsung cord is (and the phone connects) and swapped out cords. I got the exact same result, phone notices that it is plugged in and begins to charge and allows me to select to mount the cards. The computer however doesn't recognize that a USB device was attached. So i took that damn blocky cord and pushed it in really hard and BAM-O! the drives show up and i get nice full access.
so, because of the recessed opening for the micro USB port on the phone combo'd with the blocky micro USB end of my cord I am not getting a complete connection. at least i have a back up charger. i only need to do my syncing/hacking at home.
I guess this post is a little premature, but i'm fairly positive that when i get home with the good cord all will be fine.
FYI: Don't get a "Retrak" cord from fred meyers.
For those still having trouble even after enabling USB debugging etc:
On my 2 week old 17" MBP, only one of the USB ports (the one closest to the power supply) will allow the phone to show up as mounted -- it's also the only port which will charge an ipad fwiw, so I suspect that it's a power requirement issue.
Bottom line: try all the USB ports on your machine.

usb issues with mac mounting and self eject
first my phone does not mount to my macbook like it used (since july) to with stock usb cord but still mounts to my imac (also with bootcamp xp2) and powerpc g4 all running the latest OS X
on imac, when i try to copy a folder from sd card to my mac the sd card will eject it self after starting coping files. it started with a system.img file from my rom backup files, now when i try to copy other folders even a jpg from DCIM will eject the sd card and external sd. (see attachement for error code) then the error message that the disk was not ejected properly. all happens with any random files, copying folders from mac to sd cards is fine
in xp2, the desktop windows freeze while coping is in process, then i need to disconnect the usb cord to get back to the desktop
i copied same folders from sd card to external sd on the phone itself and it works
update: now, only by selecting a file on external sd will unmount both sd cards!!! going to buy a replacement cord and see....
How do I connect my phone to my computer? I prefer charging via my computer (not sure if recommend) and it would be nice to be able to put music and pictures on via my iMac (running newest version of Lion). I don't have an SD card, so maybe it's just not picking it up cause I don't have one?
But I downloaded the Android app, which says it requires Android 3.0 or higher, but I tried it and it just crashes whenever my phone is plugged in.
I don't understand the way the memory is done on this phone, why does it have "usb memory" and why does it have to load every time I turn the phone on?
Why isn't it all just phone memory? To me thats basically "you have 2GB for phone stuff, the rest is just for music and picture". Can you put apps on there? and phone stuff?

Difficult to explain the storage system of android but "sd card" is for internal storage while the common sd card is indicated as "external_sd"

Sounds odd to me, given that I have Note too.
Other way could be to install kies for mac, even though I read somewhere that the last version doesn't recognize Note.
The fact is that I used to have kies for mac on my macbook but I uninstalled it and the note is still recognized as usb storage (when I connect Note to usb, I need to connect the Note by clicking on "connect" on the notification window).
Does usb icon appear on your notification bar?
Other possible problem could be Lion, I use snowleopard so I can't say if the problem is due to the new iOSX.
Bytheway, just to answer your other question: no, it's preferrable to charge Note via domestic plug. The charger is 1A, specifically for Note

There is a USB logo on the notification on my phone. And when I go into setting on my iMac it says connected android, but can't click on it from them. and it doesn't show anywhere else.
On my sisters android whenever I would connect it it would pop up with something on her phone choosing what mode to put the phone in. Not doing that on my one.
edit: I've downloaded Kies.. but isn't picking up my phone.
edit 2: Says it only works with certain phones

Why dont you just use the mass storage mode? Plug it in and the internal memory will show up like a usb drive on your desktop.
are you using mtp mode or have you selected usb debugging?
For some reason, out of nowhere, my phone doesn't seem to want to work completely with my PC. I've never had any issues before, worked fine yesterday. But today, when I plug it in, and select mass storage, only the Internal Storage gets recognized and comes up for me to open the folders, but its not recognizing or showing my Removable Storage, aka my SD Card. I have restarted my phone and my PC. Unplugged several times and tried again, but no go. My sd card reads just fine when my phone is unplugged, all my music and everything I have my SD card shows up on my phone and I am able to access it through my phone just fine and move files between the two. But my PC just wont recognize it and wont show up in my computer. Any thought on why this is happening and what I can do to fix it ?
I had that problem while testing with windows 8. Try plugging into another USB port on the PC.
Just had this issue a couple days ago, I think I took out the battery of the phone and took the sd card out and put both back in

That was one of the first things I did, cause the first USB port I plugged into wouldn't recognize the phone at all, which I've had that problem quite a few times recently, but if I switch USB ports it starts to work fine, but this is the first time that it only brought up the internal storage and not external (SDcard) storage. It's still not working....

I tried that as well, someone on another forum suggested that, and it didn't help. I don't get what the problem is. You would think it would be an issue with the SDcard, but as I said in my OG post, when the phone isn't plugged in through USB, the phone itself reads the SD Card fine, I am able to access stuff from it, move files to and from, etc etc. This is pissin me the hell off tho, that's for sure !
Any other Suggestions/Ideas ?
EDIT - I forgot to also say, I put my SDcard in another phone and plugged in it via USB, and it recognized it just fine. And so then I thought, Great, its my phone itself, either the USB cable, or the SDcard slot on the phone, so not only did i try a new USB cable, but I also put a different SDcard in my phone, and it worked fine, so then i did the same thing, except with my USB, and it still worked fine, but as soon as I put my SDcard back in, it wouldn't work. I am like outta ideas here, I am about to just send my phone in, I have insurance, and since they are about to discontinue this phone, they will have to give me a different phone of equal or better quality/specs, So this might work out in my favor. I can prolly at least trade it in and get a discount off the phone i really want, which is either a LG Spectrum or a Samsung Galaxy Nexus, or possibly an HTC Rezound. I really want an HTC One X but no go for Verizon and the one i really really want, the Samsung Galaxy S III isn't out yet, and from what I've been reading in the news, it might not come out on time, Apple is seeking an injunction, preventing Samsung from Selling the Galaxy S III in the US until the Patent issues are resolved in court or through settlement. Which I hope to god that wont happen. Germany already agreed to ban the sell of Xbox360s for the time being over there, so its something that definitely could happen over here.
I don't know if it helps or has anything to do with your situation, but have you checked to make sure the phone is connecting as mass storage, and not charge only or internet connection mode?

Mass storage is the default, or the always ask. You have to actually manually go in and set charge mode or internet mode each time you want to use them.
Did you switch cables? I had the same issue when I used a generic cable instead of the VZN supplied one. Some of the imported pacific rim cables only charge (2pins instead of 4 pin usb internals) Also use the usb headers on the motherboard (rear of pc) not a hub or front ports.
here is what I did...
I used root explorer to execute the driver file on my phone. When I plugged i into my computer it ran the bootstrap which installed the drivers on my computer. It worked and linked up just fine. I then used the .tot files and got my phone to do the otas.
People have asked since discovery of our beloved Ouya once you've got it out of the box you may have noticed that their is a USB port on the back.
After quick maintenance of my own personal testing USB will simply not run from stock.(Not that I'm fully aware of).
There are a few key ways of going about this, two ways as far as we know.
But I'm only teaching one.
First off, if you've plugged up a USB and didn't get a mount, there are a few steps to take to attempt to fix. I've got a positive affect to this, others have had different.
So let's start off first by using the ADB method of getting root a.k.a Superuser onto out device using the tut in the dev area.
Once you've accessed this, download "[root] StickMount" from the market. Assuming that this .apk can't be found on Google let's use an app to pull your .apk from the downloaded stuff you've gotten in the Google Play Store.
Now there are a few apps that do this, I used App2SD and rebuilt the .apk myself(which took a good while recoding), once you've pulled the .apk either load it tons cloud storage area you use, or side load it, you can also find a tutorial in the dev area as well.
Once you've got the app loaded make sure you set the setting properly to detect the USB you plan to use! This is key to getting something detected. From here you should be able to check in your file explorer and locate "ExternalSD" or whatever you see it fall under. If, and only if the USB doesn't show up, that may mean you've got the wrong format. I want each and all of you to give FAT32 a go as this is standard.
Warning, I don't know who all has tried this so if you're not happy with the occurrence, don't come beating my door in.
If there's anybody who ends up with a successful outcome, please leave feedback!
If nobody gets anything I'll just make sure to have this thread locked or closed.
If you're suffering any other issues, try this.
krankdroid said:
Since my 8 GB USB storage formatted FAT32 worked by just plugging it in, i am not to say what format storage should be formatted in, but seeing that this is just Android, i don't see how setup should differ in anyway from most other devices.
Now plugging in storage does not bring up any notifications on the OUYA since notification area has been disabled.
So you need to use a file explorer to navigate into the USB storage. Sadly, OUYA decided not to add something as simple as access to your own file system.
in "Make" "Software" open the browser. navigate to this:
http://bit.ly/13SJxOB
i shortened the URL since the full URL is a pain to write on a controller:
http://gdown.baidu.com/data/wisegame/86f47585c4eed74f/ESFileExplorer.apk
Once downloaded. go to "Manage" "Advanced" "Storage" and open up downloads. select the "ESFileExplorer.apk" app you just downloaded and head back to the main menu.
"Make" Software" and next to the browser you should see the app icon for the ES File Manager.
in the file manager that has the default start page in your internal SD card storage. Just select your "USB Storage" instead of "SD card"
installing something like StickMount and needing superuser privileges is totally overkill for just accessing external storage.
if the root and stickmount way works for 1000 GB+ storage sizes i have no idea. However i don't see how it should affect external storage size

All Ouya's should mount a harddrive with no problem. You just have to plug it in when it is off or restart using a app or the terminal. It just has to be OFF not in sleep mode.

This is true, all of a sudden this week there were many people having trouble using their USB drives. Mine used to work until sometime this week. NTFS included. I was able to mount an NTFS-formatted 1TB Seagate Expansion drive earlier tonight. What I had to do was root my Ouya and use the USB OTG Helper app. I made a post on OuyaForums about it here.

I have a "2"gb, or 2,000,000,000 bytes. 1.86 real gb... anywho, its a Lexar jump drive I wanted to copy files with, and I have a single FAT32 partition and was not able to mount it simply by plugging it in. Certain Jump drives will not mount because the USB port does not supply enough power. Powered USB drives or very efficient ones will work.

Nope. I have an 8GB usb stick and it doesn't work no matter what I do or what format I put it in. Haven't tried this method yet but what you're talking about does NOT work for everyone. And the powered 2TB external drive just causes Ouya to freeze every time at boot.

I have never seen a powered USB flash drive. Furthermore, if a flash drive isn't mounting due to the port not outputting enough power, then the drive or the mobo is broken or otherwise failing to adhere to the spec. External hard drives (spinning platters) of the type common a few years ago when flash drives were cost prohibitive generally DO require an external power source (or at least draw from 2 USB ports), but they generally aren't referred to as jump drives. In my experience (which is considerable but not infinite) most flash drive issues tend to be due to bad connections after the drive is beat up or by managing to write past the end of the drive. Flash media is generally reliable and does not draw more power than the USB port puts out by spec. I highly doubt that power supply problems are a common cause of mounting issues.

It seems that you just wanna shun the method I gave you.
If you dont want help, that's fine with me but please don't come into my threads to tread on my method.
Firstly, I need to know!
Are you rooted or stock?
If either, have you installed Ouya Plus?
If so! Try the given method above or Google an apps that suits your needs.
We are here to help, and I'm telling you right now that this method has worked for me, and maybe other users.
FACT:
Not all Ouya have been able to read USB from start, more than others have reported having issues with USB and have had to use the root method to even get a reading.
TIP:
Wanna check and see if your device is/has been read?
Please either use FX File Manager or Astro as these are the best at the moment. Both can be found and side loaded onto the Ouya.
Once you've installed either one, go to the manager, do you see an "External Drive" or "USB Mounted Drive" on the device? You're good to go.
ADVICE:
Did this not show up for you?
SOLUTION:
The butter to the bread is as easy as my method above yet not all people have been as lucky as I.

If you can't find the solution here, go and check the official forums, there are some people there who helped me.

Mine wouldn't work right out of the box. I turned it on and set it up. Plugged in my 2.5" spare laptop USB 3.0 HDD. Nothing. 32gb NTFS Thumb drive. Nothing. 16gb FAT32. Nothing. MicroSD 16gb (used in my MK808). Nothing. Thought my USB was blown. Plugged in a PS3 Sixaxis controller and it worked. So something was strange.
Read online that there was a firmware patch that must have broke some things. I'm assuming this broke if a USB was previously mounted.
Only a Factory Reset would fix it. Plugged in the USB HDD and it booted right now first time. Spent 2 days screwing with it.
So if nothing mounts, factory reset. It SHOULD mount out of the box. FAT32 and NTFS are both confirmed to work with no additional apps.

I did a factory reset, still wouldn't work. I lost hours of work to set it up.
I managed to fix it with a script after about 5 hours

yeah no problem. However i REALLY fail to see how this belong in the development section. This should be for ROMs, MODs and tweaks, not really how best to get a build in stand feature working. No matter how bad it has been implemented by OUYA.
Could some of the mods look into moving OP's topic?
