i will go for N4:victory:
Shouldn't this be in the Q/A section? And I'd go with the N4
I think this will be closed. But N4 obviously, that's why we're all here.
I will go for N4... Good price and good hardware....
But I have a feeling that HTC should be the one....

I have always wanted to get my hand on a Nexus device so it is Nexus 4 for me!
LG Optimus G should be in this poll...Because its the closest phone to the Nexus 4...but with LTE and 32 GB of storage and a 13 Megapixel camera on the sprint version...It's the phone I'm seriously considering over the N4 if some good ROM's are made for it lol :victory:
iPhone 5.
most ppl here of course vote for N4. do u expect other users come in here and vote for their phone????? pointless..
Already went from S3 to Lumia 920. I really like it but I still plan to try the N4 and decide between them which I will stick with.
i sold my htc one x for 350€, just enough to get the nexus 4 now
I sold my i9300 to get a Nexus 4, so I'm definately picking one up.
If I can't live with 16GB of storage I'll probably get a i9305, the S3 was a great phone.
If money is not a problem, then the Note II because I love HUGE screens!
But because money is a problem for me, I'm getting the Nexus 4 (which is awesome in almost any other thing!).
If till the beginning of December the price of the Note II will be about 500$ I'll be getting it..
I want to buy a htc one x+ that's why I'm always checking the nexus 4 forums.

Posted from my Sweet Lil' Nexus
Note II did sound kind of cool, but I think the Nexus 4 wins, in terms of support, and price (isn't the Note II unlocked like $700?, for very similar specs + microSD?)
As you can see by the results of your poll, this thread doesn't really tell us anything.

I'm really not understanding why so many people dislike the Nexus 4. Is it due to the terrible launch? And why keep comparing it to the Galaxy S3? Vanilla Android and Touchwiz both have their ups and downs. Lack of LTE really shouldnt be an issue unless you are on Verizon. For $350 (including tax of course ) you get a phone with a quadcore processor,Adreno 320 GPU, fully unlocked, and timely updates. Not to mention the amount of money you wiuld save getting a prepaid service no contract.
Sorry if I made a few mistakes. This is my first post in this forum and just received my Nexus 4. Any advice would be helpful for future threads.

I have a note 2, gs3, gs2, galaxy nexus, droid RAZR, iPhone 5, and a nexus 4. Guess which one is my favorite? The nexus 4!!
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
No not here. I see it in numerous forums and threads. People bash the nexus 4 before they bash the S3. Its being compared to the S4 and that phone hasn't even came out yet!
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I don't know, people like to nitpick. My problem with the Nexus 4 is the same as the Galaxy Nexus I previously owned, its never 100% perfect, even after an RMA, there is still a bit of black light bleeding, a little bit of this, and a little bit of that, my wireless charging orb stopped working, had to RMA that, and so on, the Nexus line to me has always had some flaws in terms of hardware reliability.
That being said, the Nexus 4 is among the most beautiful phones, up there with the high end Xperia phones, and with amazing hardware, so asides from the hardware imperfections that one might encounter if unlucky, its a great phone.
I cannot think of a single phone other than the new Xperia (if aosp) that is coming out that I would trade my Nexus 4 for.

you just might be right sir. This is actually my first nexus device. I honestly was really close in getting the S3 until I saw this technological beauty being demoed at a local T-Mobile store. I swear I heard the phone calling my name lol. I immediately forgot all about the S3 and purchased the N4 full price.
Where is this so called backlash at?

Well maybe not a backlash, but numerous threads and forums bash the nexus 4 as if Google completely messed up the device. Lack of LTE, lack of storage, glass back (guess they forgot about the "rave" reviews about iPhone 4 hardware), phone isn't thin enough, etc. CNET gave the phone a 3.5 out of 5 while S3 got a 4 out of 5. They gave the Galaxy Nexus a 5 out of 5 and the N4 is a complete upgrade! So a removable battery on Galaxy Nexus makes it perfect?

Don't pay attention to ***** ratings.. Nothing but a popularity contest.. Read the conclusions and see if the `cons' are anything you deem a problem. They focused on lack of LTE which is a legit gripe no matter how you spin it and how well HSPA+ works.. It is a technology that is sort expected now a days. But.. Unless it personally affects you.. Then it doesn't matter..
They also focused on calling it "uninspiring" "not expanding the Nexus brand".. That's when I stop taking them seriously.. When reviewers start getting all Martha Stewart on you.. It's time to stop reading.
It is just not flawless: back glass, which can crack in any day, noise from earpiece, non-vibrant screen - these spoil impression from the phone. It is my first nexus devise (I had xperia Ion before it) and I expected much more from it. I still haven't decided which one to sell - Nexus or Ion. Ion is flawless except that hardware quite old.
And that's what makes the difference between the nexus 4 and everything else. It will constantly get updates before any other phone. I can totally understand the glass back being fragile.

I'm not trying to sound like a fanboy with this being my first nexus device. But honestly where else are you going to find an unlocked top tier phone with high end specs for $300. Put in perspective, a galaxy note 2 costs $299 with a two year contract. That's not even the full price of actual phone which is over $600. Over $600 for a phone that may or may not get Key Lime Pie. The nexus is guaranteed to get it and faster than anybody else.

For me it doesn't matter how much it costs - I could buy iphone 5, but I don't like iOS. Price is just a good bonus. Having top hardware specs is good, but will not you feel disappointed if your back glass is cracked? And this state of waiting and checking if it is cracked or not... I hate being in situation like this. Maybe in some time I will stop thinking of this. Will not you be disappointed if you had another device with worse specs, but with so much better display?
That's a good question...
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I'm not saying cost should be a factor, but rather value. Look at what u get for such a low cost. I can understand the glass back being an issue. But I'd rather have the back shatter then the display itself. Luckily I have a case. Either way I would be disappointed. But which would really tick u off, shattering a phone $700 or shattering a phone $300?

I'm not sure as of yet. From what I've read it hasnt been that much of an issue unless you're doing extreme multitasking. So far Ive played Need for Speed Most Wanted while listening to music and it hasnt shut down yet. It does heat up though but not bad enough to shut the entire phone down.

I spent 475$ for 16 GB version - that is its price in the UK. And i spent about 100$ for different accessories for it (skins, cases, etc). Maybe if lived in US and bought it for 300 I would have a different opinion
What made you choose this device instead of others? Will you select your next smartphone based on the same criteria or do you care more about some other spec?

The reason I chose my N4 was that it was a nexus device with awesome specs and a great price... U can't get a better bang for the buck phone.
My next phone has to be top end in specs and also at a good price point compared to the competition... Idk of it'll be N5 or X phone but I don't think I'll get rid of my N4 regardless

pure google experience and match it with my nexus 7. both have nexus logo at the back. i like my stuff in-sync. haha. also, apps are designed mainly to match the stock look, so having the dev phone is awesome. less problem thinking on why this app not working/supported cuz dev use nexus mainly.
plus its cheap. and design rocks!
I needed some more performance since my HTC Incredible S got a bit slow with only one core. I didn't want to spend 200 € more for a branded interface that I would replace with another ROM anyway. With the N4 I have great performance, solid quality and a clean ANdroid which I don't have to replace keeping my warranty.
Just ordered a black N4 (don't get the white phone craze). My faithful Nexus S no longer meets my needs. My main reasons for the 4 are:
Unlocked
A Nexus device, so hopefully will have current updates for a while
Good price, extra features of S4 not important to me, especially for almost twice the cost
Only thing I don't like is the screen size. 4" screen perfect for me, kept holding out for a top end 4.3" android. And yes, I've used bigger phones. After I saw the S4 mini specs I gave up, guess I'll get used to it. Anyhow, given I wear reading glasses now its probably a good thing?

Price and just how rubbish Sony were at supporting the Xperia S threw me over the edge.
Former Verizon user. Saw the price of the N4. Knew I'd make my money back within 4 months after switching to T-Mobile. Broken contract. Win.
I came from the LG G2X and all I wanted was a damn OS update. With the only update the G2X ever received being a whopping 2.3 to 2.4 I decided I'd stay away from non nexus devices the best I could. The build quality from LG is pretty nice, good balance between appearance and hand feel so I never once questioned that the N4 would be the perfect phone for me. What do I look for in a phone? Top tier performance and the quickest OS updates.
2gb ram for this awesome price

In this order:
1. Unlocked
2. Nexus
3. Top flight phone for $350, how could you resist?
Loving it on straight talk. I love the phone almost as much as the fact that my bill is half what it was before.
One of my main reasons for choosing the N4 is knowing this phone will get updates for a long time from google but others are:
Build quality.
Price point for a unlocked phone.
Amount of development.
AOSP
Price (seriously, extremely great value)
Customization, Google WANTS you to flash new ROMs and stuff to this device
I'm an aspiring Android developer (currently a .NET developer)
The sleek look
Came from iPhone 4, my only other smartphone I've ever owned. Basically debated whether to get the Nexus 4 or SGS4, thank god I went with Nexus 4. Had to switch from Verizon, but well worth it. No more Verizon red tape to deal with ever again, or any contracts.

If you arent on a contracted plan with T-Mobile, unless you are on the $30 plan with no minutes, consider one of the MNVOs. Im on Straight Talk after trying T-Mobile for a bit and the service is IDENTICAL. However, the bill from unlimited plan to unlimited plan isnt.

This.
After flashing cm7, then cm9 and 10 on my Fascinate, I realized AOSP is how Android phones are supposed to be. I love the clean interface, speed and smoothness and stability. My phone after that was the Gnex, so naturally I upgraded to the next nexus. I know there are AOSP roms on a ton of other phones, but the reliability seems to be perfected on the nexus devices, since they are built for AOSP. Also, there is a huge amount of developer support.
needed something after my N9 and really didn't want to go back to a locked down phone.
I bought the N4 due to the price, pure android and the ability to enable LTE on T-Mobile. I couldn't be happier coming from Sprint. It's a night and day difference.
So many phones looking forward too.
1. HTC ONE MAXX/T6
2. NOTE 3
3. MOTO X PHONE.
4. A possibly revamped s4 with a snapdragon 800
5. HTC ONE AND S4 Google edition.
Just wondering who is trading their nexus 4 for what phone and for what purposes?
Just curious

I will never buy another phone that isn't in the Nexus line as long as Nexus is being made. I came from the iPhone 4 to the Nexus 4 with zero experience in any Nexus device, or even Android in general, and I can tell you that pure Android is the best Android. I have a bunch of friends who hate Android solely because they bought a low-end phone that was running an outdated version of Android and had low specs.
"Yeah, but you should buy those Google Edition phones! They're so good and still show off pure Android!"
Yes, but at the same time, no. It's what AOSP 'should' look like, but it isn't truly AOSP. The OEMs still have to input their proprietary drivers/kernels to make it compatible with that hardware, so it's still customized. Android is developed for the latest Nexus device, and Nexus is made to show off the latest Android. I will sincerely buy every Nexus device that will ever be made because it is so open (and cheap). The freedom granted to OEMs, or end-users, is ridiculous. One line of code to unlock the bootloader? For real? Why WOULDN'T you buy Nexus? Come on.

Historically, not all nexii are as cheap as the N4. Just ask galaxy nexus, nexus s, nexus one and google one owners who bought devices from play. They paid an arm for their devices!! I love google's new subsidized price strategy, but it's just that....new I hope they keep it up, though, because I whole-heartedly agree with you!! I'll buy every nexus released as long as they are affordable in their prices.

I could flash Cyanogenmod and be good to go. I mean I had the EOL idea too but now I'm rethinking it. And to think what goodies may come in the fall. The Galaxy S4 LTE-A with a 2.3ghz processor.... If you walked into a mobile store. You looked at a phone with top of the line specs and build quality priced at $650. Than you saw another one with virtually the same specs. Arguably better build quality and it was a Nexus device for the same price. Would you still go for the nexus assuming that the only thing that has changed is price and hardware quality for the nexus. Still updates first. Still vanilla android still a Dev phone. Would you pay more for a better built nexus? Imagine if the HTC one was not HTC at all. If it said nexus on it and was treated like a nexus. Would you pay up?

coming from someone that doesn't agree with 2 year contracts. i would only pay this much if i had to. i would be happy with the nexus 5 for 2 or 3 years, maybe even longer if my only other option was a 650 dollar upgrade
Maybe if Nexus had bigger battery, at least 32gb(t mobile only carries 16gb) or had a SD card. Other wise not likely would probably go HTC, LG or Sony if they get rid of the stupid amount of wasted space that could be a screen. Seriously their 5 inch screen(no longer considered a phablet in 2014) is about the same size as the note...
